Reviews of RSPB Nene Washes

At the end of a single track lane, a peaceful area to sit and twitch!
Good size area to park, ample pathways walk and if course plenty of wildlife to watch.

This is the best area to see short-eared owl in the East of England. In January 2022, there were very high numbers in the area, and I had a great time observing them out and abut during the sunset

The washes are always an excellent place to see some great birds and wildlife. RSPB management has made a real difference over the years, creating a great habitat.

An astonishing variety of wildlife and rare birds from a very simple viewpoint.
Carpark for 20 odd cars, extremely busy late afternoon.
Don't stand on the bank, you'll get told off

It was our first visit to Nene Washes and we wanted to do it because we will shortly be living around 20 mins down the road from it.
Undoubtedly... we will be spending a lot of time here, it is a wonderful place for wildlife.
There are no facilities so you need to come prepared but if you do... the environment provides everything else.
We saw Common Crane, Garganey, Wheatear, Marsh Harrier, Cettis Warbler all in our very short visit.
Well worth spending time here.

Beautiful spot for a walk, lovely views over the wash and plenty of wildlife - roe deer, muntjac, owls, egrets and more.

Great walk and excellent for Birdwatching

Sometimes not much to see but easy to park and a nice walk along the top but avoid the walk if windy!

This reserve provides amazing wildlife including whooper swans in winter and cranes! However, be careful as the postcode will not take you to the right place - follow the RSPB directions on the website to get to the right place. Other than the original confusions, it is a lovely day out with lovely wildlife, with roe deer, stonechats and huge flocks of fieldfares all seen in one visit!

This is not the correct destination! Follow the written instructions in the RSPB book or on the website for driving. When we finally found the right place it’s not a bad walk, we saw fieldfares, buzzards and a kestrel. Didn’t walk as far as we might usually as it was quite foggy and windy. Some hides and a map would enhance this RSPB walk a little more.

We were here for 45 minutes looking for common cranes. Saw 7 along with other birds. Great viewpoint by a small car park.

This site always delivers. Today it was cuckoos. At least four calling and showing.
