It’s been a while since I was last at Afrotherapy. Nearly ten years but the service is the same as it always was - very courteous, professional and personalised! I had a custom made stocking weave cap made for me and it’s great - I love it! I was expertly guided through the whole process by Mona who was wonderful in explaining what she was doing and gave great aftercare advice and support once she had installed it. It’s an investment and I felt that I had made the right decision from when Harriet had suggested that this was a good option for me and my hair. Really impressed with the whole experience. One of the best salon experiences I have ever had. Very professional service which started off as a consultation and then i was also seen to very quickly despite calling in on the day to get a last minute appointment. I initially just went in for a wash , condition, blowdry, and cornrow but after the very informative consultation and talk i had with one of the afro-specialists i opted to take his advice and get a trim for my hair as the ends were damaged.I was incredibly happy with my results and i feel my hair was taken care of by professionals who know exactly what they are doing. Not to mention I was offered a drink on several occasions and the facilities in the salon are absolutely top notch which meant that I did not feel hard done by when parting with just over £92. If you want to pamper yourself and be in a neat and tidy salon with a positive vibe then afrotherapy is the way to go. I have recommended a number of people already and i plan to come back again in about 1-2 months time for a repeat, Thank you again guys

I absolutely love each experiences I've had at this Salon. I leave falling inlove with my hair again. I don't trust many places with my mane but I leave my hair into their hands. I usually have a treatment, cut and style. While having my hair washed, to help the scalp and natural oils, there's a little head massage. Also offered tea or any magazines, while listening to uplifting music. Always a great experience!

I read the reviews on this salon after I had visited and I'm actually quite surprised by the other reviews. I thought they did a great job of sitting down with me and taking the time to understand what I wanted my hair to look like in the long term and how to maintain it between visits. The stylist I had was a lovely guy but I feel he may have taken off a little more than I was expecting..... However I did say that if it's unhealthy get rid of it, so I guess I have to accept that! I'm quite happy with the result and will definitely return to them! Can't give them 5 stars as I do not think they made it clear on their website that I had to pay a deposit....Bit annoying when it came to booking an appointment

Michelle has looked after both my hair and my mother’s hair for quite a while. She has nursed my hair back to health with her amazing trims which i get on a regular basis every 3-4months i trust her. Michelle always makes my mum feel a million dollers after she has her hair washed and wig tonged, She comes home looking fabulous and always receives loads of comments on how her wig looks gorgeous. I just want Michelle to know she is amazing at what she does, she is passionate about what she does and it shows. She is so warm and friendly also. Thanks Michelle!! ❤️

Visited today with my mum. Harriet was fantastic from the moment we walked through the door. The salon was clean, and she was friendly and welcoming. Neither of us have had a hair cut in a long long time, and she didn’t bat an eyelid when we showed her the state of our hair. We both left with a new style, healthy hair and some hints and tips on how to maintain it. We have searched for a salon that would make us feel at ease and that we would trust, and they definitely did that! My mum even had a total restyle where Harriet cut her hair super short, which she loved ! 100% recommend.

My hair has never looked so good. Had Brazilian blow dry. Get complemented all the time. I go every month in-between to have moisture treatment. They are quite expensive but so worth it and they offer payment plans so you can budget towards future treatments.

A bit heavy handed with the scissors, wasn't the style that I asked for, but still an amazing cut with a really good shape. If you're precious about your length, you might have to fork out for a straight cut to minimise length-loss. Paid £100 for wash, treatment and cut. Expensive end of the scale, but staff are very professional, and offer the expensive products, rather than the cheap ones found in black hair shops.

A lovely place and relaxing surroundings,had couple of visits over 3 months.The staff is very friendly and in my opinion are qualified as they advertise themselves,yes it is expensive but you get the results for the price.And even if somethings go wrong i suggest not to judge straight away..plan what you want to do go inn talk with them clearly what do you want and also listen clearly..everyone is different and also their hair:)but these people are qualified to listen and to suggest and even fix if you think you did not get what you was aiming for..Anyway it is all about comunication.Will def go back and highly recommend the place!Thank you Harriet x

I visited Afrotherapy for the first time a few days ago and as soon as I walked in I was made to feel welcome by Harriet. I was thoroughly impressed with the consultation I had with Joseph prior to him starting to work on hair. I find this is relatively uncommon in my experience in hair salons so it was very refreshing to experience. That extra time and care to understand the client and help them achieve the best for their hair makes one feel valued. The ambiance was lovely, I particulary enjoyed gospel music in the background - it was incredibly relaxing! And with regards to the hair service, Joseph did an stellar job on my hair and I will definitely be back. He was very professional and very knowledgeable. I was in search of a Afro hair Stylist who truly has the understanding of Afro hair. I'd call Afrotherapy amongst a few other salons but bent on following through. Called again on Sunday and spoke to Joseph who I literally begged to take me in as the day had been fully pre booked. It was like love at first sight. Just fell in love with everything and even the clients. The serenity of the environment was just amazing, such calmness. I completed their hair assessment form and we talked about my hair. It was Harriet who attended me, relaxed my hair with Affirm products and aftercare, made recommendations on how to oil and look after my hair going forward. She's a beautiful and very relational person ❤. "Hmmm....I got my groove back" 😎 I must also add that they're undaunted as every aspect of the application was approached with utmost confidence. I have natural Afro hair, I showed him a picture and he made it work for me and my needs. My cut is absolutely gorgeous and suits my face perfectly. Maintenance is low and weeks later I’m still getting components. Joseph even recommended a conditioner he used on my hair during my treatment and I brought it there with some gel, these are the best products I’ve used it years. The atmosphere inside the salon was calm and I felt welcomed. Thankfully I was taken in without an appointment as they apparently go only by pre booking. I opted for an evening appointment and despite being 10 minutes early I was seen straight away (I was lucky it was not busy but understand that is how the appointment system works even on busy days). My daughter has very very thick, frizzy mixed race hair. She is 11 years old and in all the years I've tried, no one has wanted to cut her hair, and made all the excuses under the sun as to why I should not cut it. I finally found Afrotherapy!! The lady who done the hair wash was so nice - my daughter spoke about how lovely she was on the way home. Joseph was amazing! He listened to what I wanted, but mainly he listened to my daughter and valued her input, which made her feel happy. He cut her lacklustre and damaged hair which was in desperate need of help. I first approached them last week regarding a hair colouring for the first time. They promptly gave me a tester swab to make sure I was compatible with the process they had in mind. The booking process was quick and streamlined with them even calling me back to prevent me waiting on the phone. I arrived on the day and was greeted well and taken into my seat. Throughout the process there was great communication and advice on what should be done with regular checks to see if the dyeing process was irritating my scalp etc. At the end I was given some excellent advice on how to care my hair now and what to do for future bookings to get even better results. I visited Afrotherapy a couple of weeks ago. I am a regular client. The staff are always professional, friendly and the salon has a very welcoming feel to it I have natural hair and it has taken a few years to understand how to work with it. Harriet is always clear on what I need to do and how to maintain the health and management of my hair. I will say though that they are a little on the pricey side, especially as my hair is short and I always spend in excess of £120, but it is also difficult to find a good hairdresser for black hair. I am however on the whole happy with the service they provide - 5⭐

I absolutely love this salon! It's not the easiest of endeavours trying to find a high quality hair salon that specialises in afro textured hair, however, I've yet to have a bad experience at Afrotherapy. Both the senior and junior staff are very knowledgeable about hair care, and having had a number of professional treatments: several keratin and most recently a virgin relaxer, I can't begin to recommend them enough. With my relaxer specifically I was very vocal about wanting to keep a lot of my texture as I DID NOT want bone straight hair. Of course Joseph delivered amazing results with ease and helped me achieve exactly what I was looking for. Harriet and Joseph are the perfect dream team. If you're looking to get serious about your hair goals, I'd definitely suggest you get in touch.

A really fantastic salon. I have been searching for quite a while for a place to have a Keratin treatment done well and feel like I have found it at Afrotherapy. I was extremely happy with the service and final look of my hair cut and treatment. I was given an initial consultation, which I found to be informative and helpful. I requested a Brazilian Blow Dry and was pleased with the efficiency of my stylist and my final hair cut. Prices may be higher than the average salon, but I am happy to pay a higher price if the quality of service is good - which it definitely is. I found Afrotherapy after searching the web for hairdressers that have experience with natural hair. My appointment was at 11am and as soon I walked in I was acknowledged by Joseph, who then attended to my hair. The consultation was detailed and thorough and my hair was examined and Joseph suggested a combined treatment and a trim. He carefully detangled my hair (as it was VERY tangled) and then started the treatment. The shampooing and massage was heavenly and so therapeutic. I was very pleased with the results; he trimmed only what was necessary and my hair looked and felt healthy, with loads of volume. From booking the appointment to leaving the salon the customer service was excellent and the ambience of the place was clean and calm. I was offered drinks on numerous occasions, consulted for my input at different stages of the treatment and we had a nice chat which was a nice change from other hairdressers where they barely say two words to you. I also liked that after the consultation, he showed me the prices of the different treatment options and a breakdown of the total cost which was great as it allowed me to consider my financial obligation rather than being blindsided at the end with a bill. I found the pricing reasonable and for the level of care I received, it was definitely worth it. Joseph was very polite, professional and hospitable. I have been going to Afrotherapy for almost a year now. On my first appointment they assessed the condition of my hair and asked me on my hair goals and advised me on the best way to achieve it. A year on my hair is healthier and longer and my scalp condition is drastically improved (suffered from psoriasis), I have also transitioned from natural to relax (they advised me on the healthiest way to achieve and maintain this. Natural or relaxed they will look after your hair! The standout quality at Afrotherapy is that they never compromise on the integrity and health of your hair ; it is just as important as achieving a nice hair style. If you are looking for a place that cares about the heath of your hair - this is the place to go. Everytime I come here is a luxury session for me. The service is reflected in the price and vice versa. After being in lockdown for over 4 months , they have gotten my hair right! Will continue coming back! Also introduced my sister to them and she loves them!

I booked online but struggled a little after reading some of the reviews on Google- now glad it didn't deter me. I turned up 5 minutes late to my appointment as I could not find parking. I was rushing and panicked that my appointment would be cancelled. I needn't have worried...I waited 1 hour before getting seen. Then just as my treatment started, I was provided with a receipt with the price of £67. I had booked online for a trim and Moroccan oil treatment and was sent an invoice for £45. I said I would not pay more than what I was quoted. It was then explained to me that there is always an extra charge (which is not clear online) for shampoo & conditioner after the treatment (which they have to do, to wash out the treatment) and for finishing (they consider putting leave in conditioner in my hair afterwards, finishing). I told them I was happy to moisturise my own hair once I'm home. I paid the £45 only but it was explained that my next visit would be more. It's overpriced and I did not feel comfortable at all, after all the extra costs they tried to add. It should be included at time of booking so that there are no surprises on the day. Plus 1 hour is far too long to wait when you have an appointment booked.

I am a mature woman going through the menopause, who has had locs for the past 13 years. My hair started thinning and my locs were breaking off with ease, which was very depressing. After deliberating for a year to do the Big Chop, researching salons, I opted for Afrotherapy, and do not regret it. I decided to visit the salon on the off chance, and was given a consultation by Michelle, which was very thorough, so I booked an appointment to go ahead with the Big Chop. When I arrived my appointment, I was greeted by Harriet, who was doing my hair, and after asking me what I wanted, she got to work. I was feeling really apprehensive about it all, but Harriet worked her magic, as Michelle said she would. Harriet exceeded my expectations; in two hours she had chopped, coloured treated and styled my hair. I walked out of that salon feeling a millon dollars, with a new found confidence. Afrotherapy may be a bit pricey, but you get more than you pay for. The service, the staff, the salon and the end result is FANTASTIC! Worth every penny!

I really enjoyed my first time at Afro therapy today, I called in the morning to ask if they took walk ins, and I was given an appointment at a very suitable time. I was ashamed of my hair as I had 4 big cornrows that were matted and dirty so the lovely hair stylist Massinda removed them for me, the hair was detangled while we spoke about my hair journey. I received a treatment for my dry and itchy scalp. As soon as the product touched my scalp I could feel it was working, I was also offered tea or coffee whilst under the dryer, but opted for water as I was told the lack of water in my diet could be a contributing factor to my dry and itchy scalp. Once the treatment was washed out I had my hair blow dried and Joseph went on to straighten and trim my hair while we had a lovely conversation. The environment of the salon was very calming, everything was clean and tidy and felt ever so peaceful. A big thank you to the lovely stylists I met today This trip to Afro therapy has been my self care treat of the week and I will be back again.
