[Update: the shop manager got in touch with me following this review and we had a good chat about what happened. I was invited back for a complimentary touch-up and I'm much happier with my hair now. It seems like the salon has also taken extra measures to prevent spills onto customers' clothes, which is great. Overall, I'm happy with the service I received, and impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of the staff.] Original review: While the staff were lovely and the shop was nice and clean, I was quite disappointed with my experience overall. I asked for a balayage and showed some pictures for reference - the pictures were on curled hair, while mine is straight, so I understand that it won't look exactly the same. However, the height of the colour was much lower than I had expected, and after a month it already looks quite grown out. Also, when I booked in for a balayage, toner was not listed as a separate service, and I only found out that I was paying extra for it when I went to pay. Finally, while my hair was being washed, some water spilled onto the towel and my clothes, and the bleach/chemicals in the water ruined the top that I was wearing. I understand that this is not entirely the salon's fault, however, as a whole, it feels like more care could be taken to meet customer expectations on a more material level, rather than just being very outwardly friendly and attentive.

I love this salon always so clean , they use great products and staff are super nice and friendly . My original hair color is Asian black and got full bleach to silver white color and they did a great job worth the price and always come back here for touch up my roots every 6 weeks as recommended . 😍

I just got my hair dyed here. The staff were very sweet. I wanted a smoky brown - and I was told from the beginning that I probably won’t get the colour I want due to my dark hair and it’s previous bleach/box dye impact. I appreciated that honesty from Huseyn and I know he tried his best to give me the colour I wanted. I did want brown hair and it ended up being a brassy blonde/black colour - which isn’t what I wanted but it could have been worse. I think I can make it work. Thanks to the team for your efforts and hospitality.

Thanks to John my hair looks the nicest it ever has. He educated me on how to care for my hair, as well as what to ask for in the future, and how to use a diffuser. He undid a lot of damage from a place that had previously cut bits of my hair short. Definitely recommend as it was speedy and friendly and a nice environment.

Best haircut & colour I have ever had in my life hands down and I have been to many other top salons. What I loved about my haircut with Francesco was first of all the connection, he really listened to what I wanted to achieve, secondly the passion and perfection that he puts into his work. For him this is more than a job; its creating a masterpiece of colour, texture and style. He doesn't stop till he has exceeded your expectations. Such a refreshing and uplifting experience. Had my hair coloured by Ettie and Cut/Styled by John. Both of them were amazing. Listened to what I wanted whilst also advising on what was needed/required to really achieve the right look. My hair was pretty frazzled from prior bleaching but I left with my hair looking and feeling fantastic. Best hair cut/colour I've ever had. Would highly recommend both Ettie and John.

John was great and listened to exactly what I wanted. I asked for layering ans curtain bangs and got exactly that. We talked in detail about what I wanted and he took on all my requests. I’ll definitely come back

I always get my hair cut with Chrissie. He’s super nice and gets it just right! You also get an oil neck massage before washing your hair and it’s very relaxing. On weekdays, the salon owner brings her pug Bruce :)

Thank you John for the awesome hair cut! I tried Butchers for the first time in the summer and since then I have been hooked! I have never found a stylist who can accurately work with my thick hair, so finding Butchers was a relief. I request John because he is excellent at interpreting my hair style requests and needs. John takes his time during the cut and is good with checking in to see if I am happy with the length/style. His cuts are clean, precise and very edgy (what I ask for) and he's always up for listening to your suggestions for edits: it's a very non-hierarchical experience! John is always so warm and inviting and provides a really enjoyable customer service experience. I highly recommend Butchers overall (as I have had my hair both cut and dyed there with no complaints). I would highly recommend John if you are looking to switch up your look, get a unique (and high quality) cut and you are up for a good laugh in the process!

I haven't had my hair coloured in a salon for a long time, I had used a box colour during the first lock down to have a change but it turned out quite uneven. My first meeting with Francesco was a real breath of fresh air, he asked me questions about my hair routine and what I wanted from the service. I felt really listen to and my hair colour is absolutely gorgeous, rich and natural. I will 100% be returning, I have quite curly hair and he really understood it's form and what would lift it from the solid frizz it was to it's now chocolaty rich colour. Can't recommend enough!

I've only been to Butchers Salon once so far, but I really enjoyed the entire experience, so will definitely be returning in the future. The online booking service (from their website) made my life so much easier, and even when I needed to reschedule it wasn't a problem at all. I like that they have a list of their staff along with their personal hair style descriptions on the website, so for a first timer like me, it made it easy to decide on who I would like to cut my hair. I had a simple cut and blow-dry, but am very happy with the results, and I am looking forward to visiting again in a couple of months time. LOVE that they use Aveda hair products. I'd not used them before, but really enjoyed the feeling of my hair afterward, so I'll be purchasing a few items on my next visit, no doubt. The salon has a nice range of products available for purchase and I also noticed the Aveda Chakra Body Mists in the window, which I'm particularly keen on. I would be happy to recommend Butchers to any of my friends, and am excited about my next trip there.

Amazing experience! I was up for a surprise when I was approached with 3 different essential oils and had to pick one with closed eyes. The head and neck massage is definitely a great treat as a haircut prelude, especially when one doesn't expect it! I was cut by Simon... and gosh, not only you can stumble upon interesting topics with him, but while you are both chatting away, he is still focused on cutting and does it with finesse. I have been going to Butchers ever since it opened and couldn’t be happier with the service I get every time I go. It took me a long time to find a salon and a hairdresser I was happy with so I was delighted when I found Jay at Butchers, who I could keep going back to. I always feel safe in her hands and trust her with my hair completely, she’s an exceptional hairdresser and has become a friend too! Butchers also offer free drinks and a 5 minute shoulder / back massage at the beginning which is lovely. The staff are all friendly and there’s a real family vibe. Jay has been styling my hair for a good few years now. I followed her from Aveda as no way was I losing a hairdresser as good as this! She has great style and this comes through in her work. She is always honest about whether a style will work for you and I trust her implicitly with my hair - of which I have a lot! She is also super friendly and interesting and makes visiting a treat. I met Simon at Butchers and he now colours my hair. Simon knows his stuff and again, is always honest about what will suit you. He has done beautiful colours in my hair and I always leave feeling pretty damn gorgeous!! I travel down from Manchester - that's how good these guys are!

Katie is THE BEST colourist. She saved me from a dodgy green dye job last summer, returning me to a clean cream blonde - no sign of green (something other colourists said wasn't possible). Every time the colour is spot on. This, combined with lovely chats in a super cool environment makes for a really nice few hours in the salon. Jay is similarly awesome if you are looking for a cut. After moving to London I waited 4 months to cut my hair since I couldn't find a place I could really trust, but today I went to Butchers and left super happy! The team is very nice and the place very pleasant, the service is great too as they will offer something to drink and give awesome head massages. The lovely Caoimhe cut my hair, and not only she listened to my request and looked for what's best for my face shape, but gave me a better haircut than I could have hoped for! The haircut I wanted was short and with a perfect straight cut in the ends, which is what I usually did back in Milan in my trusted hair salon. She took her time and cut my hair very carefully perfecting the straight cut, and feathered the ends very slightly which gave me a better look than the salon I know in Milan ever did, and suits my face best! She also very kindly showed me pictures of other looks that could suit me if I ever wanted to try them out. Will definitely come back again to book an appointment with Caoimhe. I recommend this salon 10/10, worth every penny!!

The only place I get my hair cut - always with Simon who is the only person I’ll let near my barnet. The Aveda products are just lush and included in the price of a cut and dry is a soothing head/neck/shoulder massage with 1 of 3 Aveda oils (you choose which based on which scent is most pleasing to you). It makes the whole thing feel like a relaxing spa experience. Simon is attentive and fun and the salon feels local and charming with lots of East London coolness, obvs.

This salon opened opposite my home when I was in dire need of a hair tint and couldn't get to my usual place where I had been going for years, so I thought I'd give it a go. All the girls are really friendly and welcoming and Katie did my cut and colour. It was both the best cut I'd had in years and the colour was fantastic. I have been back again and am about to rebook for the 3rd time. My colour lasts so much better without fading and lifting. I feel she really understood what I wanted and properly listened. I would recommend giving the salon a go - I'm really glad I did.

For the introverts out there this is the salon for you! Super relaxed enviornment, the staff are really friendly but don't pressure you to talk which I just loved. Simon did my colour and John did the cut & I highly recommend both.

Went to the salon wanting a blonde balayage. Was looked after by colourist, Becky. SHE'S AMAZING! Following a consultation and looking at a few photos on the internet, she picked out the best colour for my hair and skin tone and the dye is farrrrr less drying than I was expecting. Becky has magic in her hands for sure!! I have super long hair so the process took HOURS, but the staff were super patient, made sure to keep offering drinks and threw in a head massage too! I actually made my appointment because the salon looks so stylish and everyone I saw in there looked gorgeous and happy - customers and stylists alike. Great atmosphere! Three days ago was finally the day, I got my roots touched up and couldn't quite decide if to go for a pastel pink or lavender shade this time, so Jue Jue created a gorgeous ombré look from natural roots to pink to lavender tips!! Extra points for keeping up an amazing conversation beyond the usual small talk for the entire 5hrs I was there.

Butchers is the best! I started going on a whim as they are close to my flat and have been seeing Jue Jue for nearly two years now. We did a brow/ grey balyage with long hair, then we did pink, and now we are at short bleached/grey blonde. They use the best products, my hair is still looking great and healthy. As my hair was so long and is naturally quite dark, most of my sessions will take most of the day so it's lovely that Butchers is such a great environment to hang out in that amount of time. So proud to see them expand like they have this year and see how many more stylists they have. Great job guys. <3

Although the experience with Kaela was great, the cut was not at all what I wanted. I ended up with somewhat of a lob, 3 inches shorter than what I wanted, when I just asked for a mid-length haircut, all one length with a bit of layers for texture. A great salon but disappointing to get a cut that I didn't want.

All the products here are vegan (cruelty free, not tested on animals) and the staff make you feel welcome right away. Lots of salons in East London are a little stuck up and expensive, but for the products they use here, the oil you get to choose for your head massage!? AND great conversation makes it a dream and far less daunting than imagined. Very reasonable prices for the service you get.

I could only recommend this hair salon. I came in with a hair disaster: I had bleached my hair for the first time and the result was way too much for my taste. Jue Jue came in as a good listener and adviser. In two appointments, he managed to make me go back to a color that is VERY close to my natural color (medium brunette). Of course, I had to go through very dark tones, with annoying tints of red.... but it was definitely worth it. I have never been this grateful! :-) Thank you again!

I've been visiting Butchers Salon since it opened in 2014 but Susannah (Owner and Stylist) has been cutting my hair for over 10 years- there's no one I trust more. I love the stripped back, industrial look of the Salon, the use of Aveda products and of course, great haircuts every time.
