If I could rate above 5 stars I would. 11/10. I've been going to Chaplin's for over 10 years and there are several reasons why I stay. The haircuts whether you want a skin fade, beard cut, shape up and more, they will NOT fail. Their haircuts are SUPERB! You will NOT be disappointed! The staff always listen to what you want and how they will go about it or offer advice to what they could do to make it better. The staff in the building always make you feel like family, its a comfortable environment, complimentary beverages are offered (if you're a loyal one ;D) and the overall experience is fantastic. Could not recommend this gaff enough!

Have to say this was the best haircut I have had in all 29 years of my life, and that's not an exaggeration. Mem was absolutely fantastic, a true professional and gentleman. He gave me wonderful insight, knowledge and wisdom into male receding hair and told me a lot of the science behind it and gave me many tips for trying to prevent it. He then went on to cut, shape and style my hair in the best way possible to cover my receding bits. The result was absolutely amazing. Felt like I had just had a hair transplant. Mem gave a great cut, but what really stood out was the high quality service. I went there this Morning and I did not have a booking however the guy was very welcoming and professional and he offered me to wait until next time available and my wait was 45 seconds . I showed him a picture of Thomas Shelby and he promptly suggest me is I was sure with that as is a very radical cut, thanks god I listen to him I work in hospitality and the way you look is very important . On the other side his collegue was very upset for a stupid review and continually was pushing him down in front of his clients I have tried to talk with the guy but of course he had to show respect for his “boss”. Anyway my barber did not step down he finished the job in perfect way. Maybe sometimes the boss needs to understand when to give feedback as I felt very uncomfortable as so the others in the room. Today was the second time I’ve visited Chaplin’s. The atmosphere there is always warm and welcoming. I had a haircut and beard trim done by Mem. He’s very friendly, helpful and professional. He explains everything he plans on doing and why he suggests it beforehand, so you know exactly what to expect. He doesn’t just style your hair and beard to perfection but also gives great advice on how to look after and style it at home. Really great place, thought it could've been a bit judgemental given how some of these more upmarket barbers can be, but couldn't have been more wrong. Luca was great, knew what he was doing 100%, as did the others. Great chat, great trim and a relaxed feeling. Chaplin's has been my regular barber for the past 2years and the least I can say is that they never disappoint me. Lots have been said about the friendly atmosphere and great staff present in the shop but what I would like to put across here is the quality of the service offered. All barbers are highly qualified and will advise you if needed. Time is never a problem and even when behind on their schedule they will never rush a cut. This is in my opinion one of the best places to get your haircut in London. Have been going for roughly 3 years now. All of the barbers are decent folk, they listen to exactly what you want and most importantly all give good haircuts. Amazing value too - you would be hard pushed to find this level of quality for the same price. Like most good businesses, the professionalism comes from the top - the owner is a great guy who always puts the customers first. Only downside if you can call it that, is you indefinitely have to book quite a bit in advance due to it being such a popular place.

I arrived early and had to wait few minutes, however the atmosphere of the place aswell as the staff was very pleasing. Staff were especially great. I work in Canary Wharf and have tried all the pricey up market chains such as Teds grooming room, Nicholson and Griffin, Jack the clipper etc but none actually compare to Mem at Chaplains. I find the large chains are very inconstant and tend to rush the cut during peak times. Mem takes his time to truly understand his client and their hair and helps them on their journey to achieve the style they want. Due to the quality and consistency of the cuts he provides, i would argue that he is probably the best barber I've had in London. I would definitely recommend Chaplains to anyone!

What can I say about Chaplin's? Brace yourself for a long review... Until the age of 30 I struggled to find anywhere that gave me a decent haircut. There was always something wrong. Like most people though, without being a barber myself, I struggled to describe a) what I wanted and b) what to avoid. I live in Lewisham and tried almost every barbers in SE London. Some were poor, some were ok, none however ever reached my satisfaction. I even tried central London barbers. Of course they were slightly better but certainly not worth the £30 - £60 they tended to charge. Thank god then I found Chaplin's in 2011. I found this via Googling the best barbers in SE London. No others have more than 1 or 2 reviews whereas this one at the time had over 30, with an amazing average above 4.5 stars. I had to check this out. I was extremely pleased with the service I received. Mem, the owner, explained that he was actually a hair technician rather than simply a barber and has an amazing ability to interpret my crap explanations into what I actually wanted. He actually understood! Great. How did he cut the hair though? The haircut was amazing, exactly what I wanted. Again, he could understand my nonsensical description and provide me with exactly what I wanted. Surely then the price should be similar to the central London prices (let me add that Chaplin's cut my hair better than the £40-£60 haircuts I paid out for)? Not at all. £12-£15. I cannot emphasise just how happy I am to find this place. Mem even offers advice on what would look good and how to style it. Absolutely brilliant. At first I was apprehensive to take his advice but after 2 visits he had my 100% confidence and I just bowed down to his superior knowledge. Coincidentally (or not), since I found it in 2011 I have had more success with the ladies than I have ever had in my life. Happy days! If like me you are struggling to find a barbers, and spent over a decade looking for a decent one, then you are in the right place. Don't take my word for it, just check out the other reviews and find me any barbers in SE London.... actually scrap that, the WHOLE of London with reviews anywhere near this good. You cannot find any. Look no further. I found out this week after my latest cut that Mem is actually opening a new branch in Crofton Park, opposite the train station. Now there will be 2 extremely good locations to go to! Trust me, I am not one to go OTT in my compliments but I can honestly say that this is the best value for money I ever get from any purchase of any kind anywhere. You will not go wrong here. The reason I have elaborated so much in this review is that I feel guilty for never leaving a review after the brilliant service I always receive. I have to show my gratitude somehow. It is also because I know for sure that there will be many other guys in the same boat that I was, looking for a decent barbers, struggling to describe what you want, and never satisfied with the result. Take Mem's advice every time, trust me. I am also not one to talk to people I don't know. Call me rude but that's how I am. This normally means if I am in a barbers then I prefer them to not talk to me and get on with the haircut. In Chaplin's however it is so friendly, the staff are so nice and funny that I cannot help but get involved in a bit of banter. Having a had few average cuts since moving to London, I was advised by a friend to try Chaplins. Despite being quite late and with no appointment I was squeezed and made to feel extremely welcome from the word go. Not only did I recieve a cut that I will return for every time, every decision was explained and insight given as to why my hair was being cut in a particular way- with the results to back this up. They let me know the type of hair I had and the best products to use for it without trying to push their own stuff and on my second visit I was delighted to find the owner had gone home and researched my hair. With my hair producing excess excess oils they specialized my cut and gave me tips of the trade to get my hair how I wanted it and problems in the past (products not working as they should) have now vanished with the cut being exactly how I had envisioned it. All of this expertise, skill and craft and comradery of the shop together at £8 is ridiculously great value for London and I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair in the area. I've just moved to New Cross and was looking for a good quality basic gents haircut, for a good price, and somewhere I could just walk in and wait. Found this barber 5 minutes from my door through Google Places. Haircut landed up a little shorter than I intended - but this is probably more my fault than their's, I'm not always the best at explaining what I want. Service was pretty spot on, with drinks if you want them, the last couple of day's Sun newspaper, and a nice relaxed attitude. Price really can't be argued with, £8.50 is pretty much the best value I've seen anywhere in London. I still prefer Barber de Seville in Brixton, but given the proximity to my home I'll almost certainly be back at Chaplin's and would have no hesitations about using them again.

After moving from Scotland where there were hundreds of brilliant hairdressers at affordable prices, it was difficult for me to find an affordable barber in South London who would cut my hair. This is the only barber shop in and around Lewisham that cuts people with non-Afro hair. Cat and Mem are equally amazing. Cat tends to cut my hair simply because he was the first barber from Chaplins who cut my hair. From social aspect, the banter here is unbelievable. Mem is arguably the funniest person I've met and I look forward to coming here for the sheer banter. Cat is also a great laugh and the hospitality is great. Regardless of how busy Chaplins are, I've never watched Mem refuse a customer or turn them away. He always books in an appointment if there are none available and the haircut isn't rushed whatsoever. Quality speaks for itself. Don't waste £50 for a cut in Canary Wharf, get down to Chaplins right next the DLR only 10 minutes away from there! Went to Ediz barber in greenwich yesterday for a quick fade back and side and a tiny trim beard as my barber the fantastic hair artist Cat was fully booked last week end. What a mistake to try Ediz barber the fade was the worst i had for years and i'm a hairstylist too! I've been getting trimmed at Chaplins Deptford for a few years now, and have never had a dud cut from these guys. This is no move-em-thru sheep shearer outfit, it's immediately apparent from Mem's approach, from team he hires and above all from the end results that he considers what they do as a craft. That's the cake. The icing? The lads are always courteous, hospitable and wicked fun to be around; clean and nicely decorated premises (the fold-down cinema seats for waiting clients are a neat touch); and an online booking system which actually works. Evenings can be fully booked 7-10 days in advance - which says something - but I never go elsewhere, I'd always rather wait an extra few days and go here. A proper barber shop this.
