Just finished this 10 week course and learned so much! Nathan and Alex were my tutors and the amount of knowledge between them both was insane. I needed a jump start into my barbering career so this was ideal to fit around my working hours which most courses out there don't so it was difficult to get started until now. I know I can message the group anytime for help and critique and would highly recommend the course to anyone starting out or even for extra experience. Such a nice atmosphere and will miss seeing our little group weekly!

Went here for the first time last week. What a great experience! Right from walking in with a friendly greeting, great looking place and the haircut by Alex was perfect! I booked an appointment with Dan for a Re-Brand after having the same hairstyle for several years. I wanted a bit of a change but was not quite sure about what I wanted, he walked me through potential styles that would suit me, and the level of maintenance required for the hairstyles. I decided the style that I was looking for but also wanted him to add character based upon what he thought would look good. The process was unrushed and smooth with some genuine and chill chats all the way through, having my hair cut is usually more of a chore than it is relaxing. However, this time it was totally different experience, I was thoroughly enjoying the process and environment of the barbers. Dan has a clear passion and artistry for barbering as well as being a great person to talk. I will be visiting again, after the refurbishment. I left extremely happy with a look that I have not tried before, and I would say that it is worth the premium cost. If I was to give possible improvement it would not be based on the service itself as I am very happy with the outcome. Instead, I would like to see a change in the hair products sold by NotJust as they are chemical-based hair products rather than organic hair products.

When looking for a barbering course myself, I had the advantage of seeing other education centres before deciding... my girlfriend used a different educator but still pushed me to do Not Just For me, Not Just is a clean contemporary shop to learn in, it's hands on from the first lesson, each person is treated as an individual on the course and taught accordingly, with (Dan & Tom) on my course understanding that we all needed different approaches, rather than the one size fits all approach other educators use. I would highly recommend the course as in 10 weeks (provided you also work on it yourself) you'll he cutting hair to a good standard. ... Compared other places, where earning isn't condensed and barbers leave lacking confidence, the opposite is at Not Just. I believe this is because at Not Just all the instructors are still active barbers who all take pride in their work and look to improve, which I'd unlike being taught by some instructors who haven't cut hair for 2/3 years Overall I feel the education, understanding and experience you get at Not Just is massivelu unrivaled from other places I've seen. Attention to detail is key and no other education centre does it like Not Just !

There are only a few barbers in Manchester that I've come to trust, but I needed a trim at short notice and they were booked up. I was intrigued by NotJust and decided to give it a go. The space is very minimal and clean and I was greeted with a super friendly atmosphere and offered a drink. I booked in with Gio at NotJust and was extremely happy with the results. He understood what I was trying to explain and talked me through what he was thinking. Great attention to detail and clearly a skilled barber. He was super easy to talk to, which is always good. The only thing I was a little surprised by was that, for £35, I expected to have my hair washed (whether before or after). So, I left with the same gunk in my hair that I arrived with, which didn't feel great but it's fine. Overall, highly recommend Gio, especially if you're picky with who cuts your hair.

A truly memorable experience for my wedding. I got my Haircut and Beard by Alex who was so friendly and explained absolutely everything. The barbershop is beautiful. I was so happy with the experience and the attentiveness was out of this world. His knowledge was also second to none and something which I've never experienced before. I was nervous about my hair as it is not in the best shape but so happy with the results. I had very high expectations as it was named one of the top barbers in the UK but it still superseded that. Really impressed with James. From the moment he said goodbye to the client before me, he greeted me (pronounced my name right too) and made me feel comfortable. The service was great, the time he took explaining me through things he was doing was helpful and let me know he was very knowledgeable. I’ve come all the way from New Zealand and to see such a professional work standard is really inspiring. You can tell all the barbers in there are well trained, unique and have a modern approach to hair styling. You can’t put a price on experience and being personable, but it’s worth every dollar. From start to finish the notjust barbering course has been excellent. It is an extremely unique and welcoming environment to learn in and I couldn’t fault it. In 10 weeks I have gone from a complete novice to a competent barber with room to expand my skills and knowledge and this is down to Tom and the rest of the guys encouragement and belief. It is a very hands on course so if that’s not for you then this isn’t the right place however I highly recommend this as the way to go. I finished the 10 week course a week ago and what a fab 10 weeks it was! It’s a great way to introduce you to the industry if you’re thinking about becoming a barber. I went from being a complete novice to learning a variety of different haircuts. The course itself is full on from the start yet really relaxed. The groups are small so you never feel lost, like you would learning with a large group. Nath is super chilled and made sure that everyone was confident in what we were doing. Not just a barbering course…a barbering experience. From the second I showed interest in the 1-2-1 Not Just Barbering Academy I felt so much genuine care and compassion from Nathan and the team. Up until my first day I was loaded with information and preparation for the course. My personal mentor was Alex Culley and what an incredible guy, not only did he take me from a novice to a confident barber in 10 weeks but he was extremely supportive and so genuine throughout my time with him, in and out of the course. In the 10+ years I have lived in Manchester, I have tried pretty much all of the barbers and hairdressers the city has to offer, not being afraid to try new locations that open up. You might say that I'm not picky and on the hunt for a good deal, and you would be right. I'm not a guy who spends hours preening himself in the mirror. Instead, I go for a low maintenance look that doesn't look out of place with a minimal amount of effort. NotJust has been on my horizon to visit since it opened; however, due to various factors (the main one being Covid), my inaugural visit didn't take place until today. My stylist was James, who, unlike other stylists I have been to, actually felt like he was listening to what I wanted before suggesting how he would cut my hair. Throughout the 50 minute appointment, we had an excellent natter (I mean, who doesn't enjoy a good discussion when they go for a haircut), and he checked in regularly to make sure I was happy with the progress. I'm NotJust saying this (see what I did there 😉), but I know with certainty that I'll be a repeat customer of James from now on - he was awesome! Sorry Toni & Guy.

Booked in for a haircut with Alex yesterday afternoon. The barber shop couldn’t have been more chilled/clean/hospitable, with coffee on arrival and a chair comfier than my nan’s. After a quick consult with my barber we decided to go for a taper as opposed to my usual fade. A bold yet well informed decision. I must admit I’d had a bit of a large on the night before but after 45 minutes under the scissor with Alex I was a man reborn. Precision and care being the words of the day. I came in to have my beard done after reading a lot of positive reviews on the place and it didn't disappoint. Your made to feel welcome as soon as you enter into what is a really nice contemporary looking place. After a brief consultation with Lewis he was able to execute something close to what I was after knowing that 1 visit wasn't going to get me the style I wanted since I need to grow my beard out but he explained this and I left happy with what he had done. The ambience of the place is unlike some of the other barber shops, which can be on the "laddish" side, its definitely somewhere much calmer so exactly what I was looking for! The most important thing about a barber's is the haircut, and I'm really pleased with the one I got. But more than that, the place itself has a great aesthetic and Nathan, one of the partners (and also who cut my hair), is really chill. It's really refreshing to have an atmosphere like that. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my hair; I basically explained what I didn't like about it at the moment, which is really not a lot to go off. But it was enough for him to suggest what to do, explaining (in more detail than I think any hairdresser I've been to has) why that was best for how my hair grew and avoiding what I didn't want. Something that I also really appreciated was how easy it was just to have a chat. Normally I'm pretty introverted and having the "hairdresser's conversation" just feels forced, like you have to talk because you're in the chair. But it was super easy to have a normal conversation, probably just because everyone was super down-to-earth and the atmosphere was so laid back. I really hope they can keep that personable, relaxed vibe as they keep growing in staff and clientele. They've clearly got their business vision sorted.

I’ve always dreaded having to get my hair cut, and I’m glad to say that stretch of my life is over. The care and attention to detail Lewis demonstrates in his craft really shows, and I’m absolutely delighted with the finished product and the entire relaxed, yet reassuringly professional experience. Lewis went through every decision he was making with me and explained the reasoning as he was working, and also outlined how we’d build on these decisions moving forward to further improve the appearance of my hair, which really put me at ease. Relaxed, cool, creative space quite like no other environment I’ve been in. I stumbled across the notjust academy and the courses they provided whilst exploring the idea of becoming a barber. I knew I didn’t want to have to go back to college or do an apprenticeship as I had already been to university and felt it was a step back again and therefore the 10 week intensive program was perfect. The information that is provided within that 10 weeks covers every fundamental skill and technique required to be a great barber and it is provided in a simple, clear easy to digest way. For me it was the opportunities that come after the course that stood out, after a few weeks of education the guys were providing me with opportunities in Manchester and Sydney (all through the links that the boys at notjust have). This combined with hard work on the course lead to me continuing my education at notjust after the course and they referred me to another barbers in Manchester so on completion of the course I walked into a full time barber position. If you are thinking of becoming a barber I can’t recommend the notjust academy enough, it’s barbering, service and a way of living- more than just an education program.

Life changing stuff. I enrolled on the Notjust Academy after a run of temp jobs and unemployment, and having been a client of Dan’s for a while, the idea of barbering was always floating around somewhere in my thoughts. My curiosity of what the course would entail was met with loads of initial helpful information from Dan and Nathan, they provided a clear sense of what the course would look like and how it would pan out. From having absolutely no hair cutting experience to cutting a client’s hair in a shop setting in the final few weeks is still something I’m still in awe about - it doesn’t sound like it should be possible, but it definitely it! Notjust will provide you with an impenetrable foundation of skills and knowledge needed to give a competent, entry level haircut, but they will always push you further and further, never settling for complacency. This isn’t just any other run of the mill barber school, the guys at Notjust are at the top of their game, no one in Manchester is doing it like them and this shows in the education. Dan was an amazing teacher, he made something which seems on the outside to be complex, digestible and so easy to follow. His analogies will live on in memory always! If anyone is on the fence about enrolling, the guys at Notjust will always take the time to chat to you about it. Asides from being top of the game in the hair industry, the guys are warm, welcoming and will always make you feel comfortable. I can’t fault the course or my ongoing experience with Notjust, cannot recommend enough!
