Paul H is a great mechanic and a mensch. I've known him since 2014, bought great bikes off him, and have had many bits, pieces, conversions, servicing etc. off him over the years - all of which have been top quality. He expanded my riding horizons - e.g. riding fixed - and introduced me to a lot great cyclists who are now friends. He's very much a nexus in that way, more so than any other bike mechanic I know. He connects people, and brings cyclists together. His Summer Sendoff rides have become legendary. All in all, a great person to know, and your bike couldn't be in better hands. Go use him! I always smile when I think of his simple and sound advice when faced with life's inevitable problems.... Ride Your Bike! - right on, brother.

Always take my bikes to Paul. His work is excellent and a super nice guy to deal with. I know my trusted steeds are in good hands with him. Over the years he has done custom builds, suspension fork and post servicing and wheel builds.

I first visited Paul over 8 years ago. I had been having issues with a SRAM from derailleur and numerous bike shops in Brighton had failed to fix it. A day in the workshop and Paul had got it fixed and working perfectly. I've never looked back since. Paul has solved all manner of issues with my bikes since. He has also built me a range of fantastic wheels from deep section race hoops to rail shredding 29ers. Paul is always willing to go the extra mile and do the extra to get the job done to the best possible standard. He has been great at providing advice which time after time has proven to be top notch and his general knowledge of bikes is unsurpassed. Also along with being a top mechanic he organises some of the best bike rides going. The summer send off is always fantastic as is DOOM CROSS and the windmill chasings. All in all if you need bike support and want a top level professional, thorough service look no further.

Paul is an awesome bicycle mechanic! His work is always of the highest quality and reasonably priced. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for repairs or services in the Brighton area. I have several bikes ranging from vintage to new style carbon. Paul knows how to fix, repair, adjust and upgrade all of them.
He's now providing mobile mechanical services which are super convenient for anyone with limited time to drop and collect bikes from a shop.

I got some new wheels built here and they are great! These guys really know what they are doing and whilst I was there Paul gave lots of advice and tips. I am really impressed with the fact that I was told what my bike needs along with what I can do without to save money! Great service and I will be going back for sure.

I always take my bike here to be serviced.
The prices are reasonable, the parts are decent but above all, they are friendly, informative and go the extra mile to make sure you come away happy. They really do care, which is very refreshing!
I'd recommend rule 5 to anyone that asks for a good quality affordable bike shop time and again. Keep up the great work guys!

Paul is always super helpful and explains to me what he needs to do and why on my bike. He prioritises safety but is also aware of the environmental and cost implications of replacing stuff when it's not necessary, exploring cheaper options wherever possible. Very trustworthy and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Very impressed with Paul’s kindness and professionalism - puncture repair and bike set up. As a real amateur cyclist I thought I’d just got too old for the hills in Brighton but Paul spent time changing my seat and handle bars position and bingo - can get up the Ditchling Road now!! Very reasonable cost.

Having got back into MTB after about 8 years I felt a bit behind how things have moved on. After getting a flat and having some other problems I decided to pop down to Rule 5 Bikes and get the bike looked at. They were extremely helpful, the bike was quickly serviced, repaired and back on the road within half an hour, after another big blowout (completely my fault) they then converted the front tyre over to tubeless and fixed a rather large puncture. Always polite, informative and friendly they offer exceptional value and a really friendly service. I will certainly be popping a few beers down to the lads for helping me out so promptly and with such exceptional value and service! Cheers lads.

Just had my Caad12 bike serviced in under 24 hours, including collection and drop off.
Same competitive price and service as always but now he can collect and drop off at convenient times (for a small fee).
With a new bb and headset all to creaks and squeaks have gone and literally feels like a new bike. It’s amazing how different a bike can feel when everything’s in tip-top condition.
Paul made a point of explaining the cost effective savings of replacing the outgoing bb with a different brand.
All in all an excellent service and highly recommend.

Paul and Lewis have helped me out with so many repairs after accidents and kit upgrades that I'm in danger of losing count! They are always willing to go the extra mile in an emergency and get me sorted to get back out on the trails. Their knowledge, skill and support are just what you need in an LBS and their prices are very fair. Today, after a rear mech fail on the Downs and a slow descent to the nearest train station to get me back home, Paul had me sorted in no time and I'm ready for my next ride already! Now that's service and these guys deserve the loyal following of customers they have. If you've not used them yet, give them a go - you won't be disappointed!

Very impressed with the service we had from Paul at Rule 5 Bikes. Now a mobile service, and after a few quick messages to organise a mutually convenient time, he came to my home and serviced both my wife’s road bike and my gravel bike. Both bikes are now running sweet and we are very happy, great value too. I would happily recommend to anyone.

Visited a few weeks ago after i got a new bike to get the gears serviced, I'm new to road biking and the chap (paul i think his name was) was very helpful and even shown my how the gear sets work and gave me a couple of pointers!
very reasonably priced!

Best bike mechanics in Brighton! I’ve tried a few places and was recommended Rule 5; this is the best hands down. Paul is both very knowledgable and helpful.

Friendly, helpful, well priced, great skills - I'd hazard a guess that all these attributes concurrently are unique in the Local Bike Shop world!! New bar tape fitted same day and brilliant job at excellent price. Thanks guys.

Recently Paul and Lewis sorted me out with an All-City Space horse touring bike for Lands End to John o'Groats ( at short notice). Couldn't have been more pleased - both with the bike and with their professionalism and expertise.
Will definitely use this excellent local independent again !

Paul was great. He swapped from working on a Cervelo to my old Boulder and didn't miss a beat! He worked to my budget and his post job follow up was great. Highly recommended

I needed urgent help last Saturday late afternoon, my normal supplier had no capacity to help but I found Rule 5 through Google. Was told no problem, they could help, amazing service, saved the day and I was able to compete Sunday in my triathlon. I will now be sticking with Rule 5, better service, better value and closer to home.

The guys here are helpful, informative and overall the service was excellent. I had an issue with the cranks on my BMX and these guys sorted it no issue, and at a great price! Top notch and highly recommended.

Exceptionally skilled mechanics - Paul's bar tape work gathers crowds who stand, marvel and watch an artisan at work. Unbelievably their performance improves from the dizzy heights if you also supply beer in small quantities.

Paul's a great mechanic and his work is always excellent, whether it's my road bike, my gravel bike (which he also built) or my sons MTB's. He's also given me great advice on what to buy and what not to buy, saving me money along the way. His analysis of problems and the cost/benefit ratio of repairs is especially important to budget stretched cyclists like me.
