Reviews of Pedal Progression
J. M.
I was kindly given a voucher by my family to attend the fundamentals course offered by Pedal Progression. I can't recommend it highly enough! Great introduction to MTBing with a good balance of focusing on the basics and using the basics doing some fun trails.
I will definitely be going for the fundamentals course for a second time.

I can't praise Pedal Progression and Phil enough, the sessions at Ashon Court were so much fun. I've had 4 private lessons with Phil, starting from the basics as I've only just starting riding off-road. Phil was an excellent instructor and really helped to improve my confidence, the sessions were really enjoyable and broken down into the practice of different techniques.

Myself and two friends had a two-hour skills session with Phil and we arrived with a range of experience and skillsets. Phil assessed our level and tailored the session to suit us individually and as a group. We all learned a great deal from him and highly recommend the small group sessions for anyone who wishes to build confidence. The whole team were great to communicate with, especially as our numbers kept changing! A great asset for Bristol, thanks everyone!

We had a fantasic coaching session with Phil in the Forest of Dean. The sessions was tailored to what we wanted, Phil was great at breaking things down and explaining them clearly making it easy to understand and progess our riding. Would definitely recommend!

I attended the fundamentals - session one, led by Matt. He was clear, friendly and helpful with his instructions. Throughout the session I learnt the basics that gave me more control with the bike, making riding over rough terrain safer and a lot more enjoyable. I have been riding since and noticed through the basics it has also made me faster.

I had booked a mtb coaching session with my dad here and the instructor was really helpful and informative. We had a great time and even though it wasn't what we were expecting it helped our riding immensely. I had been riding for about a year or two on trails and with the instructors help I was able to elevate my riding and found a noticeable difference when I went out again on the trails the next day

I hired a mountain bike and took part in one of the public skills sessions, fundamentals of mountain biking. I had done quite a lot of off road riding on a gravel bike, but never a mountain bike, and wanted to make sure that I was starting from the right place technique-wise, rather than falling into bad habits. The 4 hour session flew by, covering all of the basics about body positioning, explaining all the mechanics behind what you're doing (so that you understand why it works – hugely important) and encouraging experimentation so that you can feel the difference between right and wrong positioning. There was a really useful section about leaning the bike and moving it underneath you, and dealing with flat turns and seeing down the trail. The instructor, Phil, was very knowledgeable and patient. He was great at catering to the range of experience and abilities in the group, and provided very valuable feedback. You can watch YouTube videos on technique all day but it doesn't compare to doing it in front of someone and them giving you feedback. I rode a section of the Nova trail before and after and the difference was night and day! The bike was in great condition and perfectly-suited to the terrain. I would definitely recommend Pedal Progression

Reasonably priced and well-maintained hire bikes. Went there for some repairs on my bike recently, great service, recommend

Had some fantastic 1 on 1 MTB coaching here, really helped my riding and would thoroughly recommend to anyone. There’s a small bike shop with loads of hire bikes and a nice cafe just next door too. The trails are in good shape and there are a few descents which aren’t steep but really nice to ride…It’s pretty much all flow trail. There’s a few climbs to work the muscles too. Great place to MTB and only a few mins from the city

Great mountain-biking sessions for kids..my son really enjoyed himself, particularly fantastic mountain bike we hired! Got two bikes serviced. Brilliant mechanic..great communication..reasonable price. Many thanks.

Great place! The staff super helpful! Bikes are great, so are the trails

I've hired bikes from Pedal Progression twice. Both times the bikes have been in good condition and the staff were friendly. Reasonable charges as well, only charging an extra few quid for two hours instead of doubling the one hour rate.

Really helpful and friendly staff. Been a few times for lessons or bits of equipment and they always do their best. I was having a lot of trouble sorting my bike tyre out and one of the staff managed to find time to help me sort it out despite it being a very busy Bank Holiday.

I found Phil's coaching very helpful and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their MTB skills.

Saved me a long walk home - got a flat tyre on the trails with no spares, no money and no phone. They kindly gave me a new inner tube with a promise that I'd pay them over the phone later, plus all the kit to change and inflate the tube. This is why we need independent bike shops! Thanks guys

My two one one half day sessions with Sam have been fantastic. He is patient, articulate and incredibly enthusiastic about improving your technique. I would recommend these courses to anyone who wants to improve their skills and make biking much more fun, smoother and safer. Excellent value for money - book it and you cannot regret it

I've rented several times from these guys. Always helpful and offer an efficient and hassle-free service. The bikes are good quality and the prices for rental are more than fair. I rented my bike today and after realising that my friends would arrive later, they held the bike for me and restarted the 'clock' for my rental from when my friends arrived without any fuss. Good location with access to a couple of trails.

After 30 years on out on the tracks, decided to get a training session with pedal progression. Had a great half day with Matt in August 2020 improving my skills - manuals, English bunny hops and rear wheel lifts. Money and time well spent - next time. Cheers Mike

Fantastic. Reasonable price to hire a decent bike and follow some great trails. I have been once with my son and we will definitely be back. Facilities like this should be financially supported as they are great for health and well-being.
L. C.
Friendly people and great service. Helped us out mid peddle when cassette came loose. Got us back on the trails in no time. Thanks
E. D.
Great place to Mountain Bike, nice trails for this area that are well marked by difficulty level. Bikes were well tuned and excellent quality, we biked for three hours and there were still more trails to cover. Nice activity to do while in Bristol, relatively inexpensive.

Great afternoon session for small group (4) of mixed ages 10-50. the coaching was pitched at just the right level and the kids were kept engaged and entertained. Everyone had fun and came away knowing more and riding better.

Had a 3 hour mountain bike lesson with Matt from Pedal Progression. The objective was to understand the fundimental techniques to enable me to become a better and safer rider. The lesson was great fun and really useful - giving me loads to go away with and practice. Highly recommended, thanks
M. H.
Took my youngest son out first time for a couple of hours great fun no spills which was great for us both. Bikes were fantastic not cheap good quality which made things feel a lot safer. Will definitely be returning oh and you definitely get what you pay for ....GREAT....

I am doing a course in mountain biking fundamentals the guys here are very professional, helpful and put you at ease. I would highly recommend booking on one of there coaching sessions.

My mate Jo and I have just had the best time with Sam from Pedal Progression on a two hour lesson. We both saw massive improvements in our confidence and riding postures and balance on the bikes! Sam really broke techniques down for us and made a think about what we were doing and why. When he let us ride free after the lesson, the burms felt like a fun roller coaster as opposed to a death defying extreme sport!! Thanks Sam! We will be back for the next steps once we have dialled in todays eureka moments!!

Great price bike hire with good quality bike. Ashton Court is a great place for beginners. They even washed my non-hire bike - great service.
B. M.
Super helpful and relaxed atmosphere. Right on the trails too! Full marks to Ross the mechanic for zeroing in on a solution for an occasional drive-train problem. His advice didn't even require a new part, so extra marks for honesty. Highly recommended.
E. E.
PedalProgression is a fantastic addition to the Ashton Court scene. Their bike hire is reasonably priced, and lets me take visiting friends and family out on the local trails. Having a bike shop near the trails is always handy for those times when punctures happen without a spare tube on hand. Sam and the team are also actively involved in the MTB community, doing some great work to make Belmont Hill a sustainable place to ride.
...and that little plastic jump they set up at BikeFest and Oktoberfest always makes for great spectator action.
M. C.
Great days training with Matt. He is super friendly and helpful and it really changed the way I ride my mountain bike. I would reccomend these guys to anyone looking to improve their riding.
J. N.
Very helpful staff and the bikes were as good as you can get for rental bikes. Good value (£15 for 2 hours) and some great local trails. A returning customer.

Excellent half day MTB Fundamentals course yesterday - highly recommended!
M. B.
Today I had my 4th one-on-one session with these guys. Amazing results! (with a lot of homework between sessions of course...) My riding is SO much smoother and I can jump at long last (something I thought I was too old to learn!). Thank you guys, I will be back for sure!
A. C.
Absolutely brilliant coaching, really got my full time and really has improved my riding.
D. D. C.
Great friendly service, really good bikes, the trails are great fun for all ages do get fairly busy though. Price of hire fair for the quality of bikes available....will be going again soon
S. B.
Top quality coaching for all ages and skill levels. The best way to help your kids and yourself get more out of riding the local trails.
S. H.
Hired a bike for a couple of hours. Great quality bike. It's rare to find a bike hire centre where the bikes work as they should! I will definitely go back!!
A. R.
I can highly recommend these guys. Sam really listened to what I wanted out of the session and very cleverly tailored the coaching to suit. Relaxed and approachable guys that know their stuff.
D. W.
Good for both renting and for coaching!
D. S.
Great friendly service even though I only spent 6 quid on an inner tube! Let me borrow all the gear to fit it, plus I didn't have anyway to pay so they let me use their laptop to pay by PayPal.
R. R.
Very nice staff that explain everything you need to know about MB if it is the first time you have done it. reasonably price using the move GB app. Highly recommend !
S. T.
Good bikes, good local trail. Remember you have to stop doing the red loop if you want to get back.
