After 4 years ( because of health problems and covid ) we could finally use the rented bikes for a perfect sight seeing tour through Edinburgh. The bikes which Luke had reserved for us where off excellent quality !!!! Because off the bikes the sight seeing became one unforgettable high lights of our stay in Scotland

I rented a Genesis Tour De Fer touring bike for a 5-day trip from Edinburgh to Aberdeen. I had booked it well in advance, and the bike was ready for me the day I got to Biketrax, equipped with the panniers and repair kit which I also rented. The online booking system is surprisingly advanced for a bike shop, and follows your initial order with confirmation e-mails, a legal rental contract, proof of return after you have returned the bike etc. All worked smoothly. The Genesis bike was ideal for touring, a heavy-duty vehicle that carried the big load (including my tent and sleeping bag) effortlessly. Gearing and breaking was meticulous, I never had mechanical issues, and the tubes didn't loose one gram of air throughout the journey. Two minor points for improvement: (1) The left and right panniers were taken from different sets so that they differed in size and shape. Not ideal, though in practice the bike still felt well-balanced. (2) It would have been better to include a pump in the repair kit. How would you repair a tire without a pump?

Awesome service from everyone here! Would definitely recommend them! I rented a bike to compete in a triathlon on New Year’s Day. The bike they provided was exactly what I needed. It was great fun to ride, easy to operate and it was sitting ready for me to collect when I arrived to pick it up. I appreciated the courtesy call to advise of the new years opening hours, and also for letting me pick up the bike the afternoon before and drop it off the morning after the event. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I’m an avid cyclist who enjoys getting out on a good bike when in new places. Renting a bike can be a random experience. I booked a gravel bike online and my expectations were exceeded. Very friendly staff and they accommodated me very well. The bike came well equipped with some spare tubes and tools. I put 100 miles on the rental in 3 days and did some rough terrain (Pentland Hills) and city trails. Bike rode like a dream. Second best to your own bike. I would rent from biketrax again and again. Great shop. Great staff. Great bikes.

If you are embarking on the NC500, Luke and Max and crew at Bike Trax are your guys to get setup. These guys are fantastic, especially Luke. Great customer service and great bikes. I was in Edinburgh just for the weekend and wanted a reasonable bike to explore. They have more bike options and sizes than on the website, so contact them. The Saracen Levarg gravel bike was perfect for cruising along canal towpaths, cobbled streets or dirt tracks. So much fun. And if you decide to buy a bike, they'll take 2 days hire off the price. The shop is right at the end of the Union Canal - which leads to Falkirk Wheel (50km/34 mi) a great flat traffic-free ride.

The gentlemen in this shop really know their stuff when it comes to bikes. It's incredibly handy, there's a pump (with a pressure gauge) locked to the shop, schoo even while closed you can still stop by & pump your tires up. If you have a puncture I guess it would be really handy if you've not got too far to go either. I was having some difficulty, never bought a bike in my life before and I'm well into adulthood. I'd had to order a partially assembled bike online as shops were currently closed. This shop has re opened, however, you must wait outside to be invited in, the social distancing must be adhered to in order for ther shop to remain open. I went to pump my tyres up as I noticed the pump available outside, while passing when the shop was closed. The shop was open as I took my bike along, the workman from the shop was really helpful. I thought it would be so straight forward. Embarrassingly I don't think I would have figured it out if he hadn't come to the rescue. He was ever so kind and genuinely helpful. He noticed I'd assembled my front forks the wrong way around. He offered to fix it. It was free of charge, which I didn't really feel right about. It actually made a difference to the front suspension, much more effective. He said it's a common error people often make when ordering a bike online, so I didn't feel so foolish. Id certainly return to this shop for any queries I have. Im no expert in cycling. Only bought the bike, to make it possible to get exercise and still stick to social distancing guidelines. If you ever have any problems this is ther place to go, I'm confident they'll exceed any expectations, if you have any. Despite not actually entering the store, my experience was pleasurable, stress free. I felt reassured that someone who knew about bike's saw my assembly attempt, so I know it's safe to go. He didn't have to tell me my front forks were on backwards, he also didn't have to proceed by fixing it free of charge in a matter of minutes! I explained I felt a little cheeky posting nothing, his response was "I'd rather have you cycling a safe bike, it doesn't take loung when you've done it numerous times". I felt the guy was genuine, not "in it for the money" and my safety was first. I'll certainly be making that my prime location for any bike problems, which may (hopefully not though) arise in the future. Thank you so much for your help guys. Stay safe!

Really super personal service from Luke and his crew at Biketrax Cycle Shop - Edinburgh which was certainly lacking in some of the larger (Branded) bike shops in town! They even let me go out on a 34 mile ride on a demo Cinelli bike 🚲! They fitted and measured me up perfectly for my new bike which rides beautifully. I researched and contacted over 5 bike shops and Biketrax came tops. Most friendly, patient, accommodating and true experts in their field. Amazing bikes, amazing service. Honestly, renting something can be quite tricky. You are either worried you will get a good product but really fussy customer service and worry all the way through about possible hidden charges or get a terrible product (as happened in other places) that barely gets you where you're supposed to. This place is truly great, easy booking, lovely staff and amazing bikes. Everyone was so impressed that we rented those bikes and there was absolutely no pressure not problems after returning them . Highly recommend it!

My bike gears stopped working near the shop so I stopped at Biketrax to ask for assistance/advice. A helpful guy from the shop had a look at the bike immediately and spent some time changing the settings on the gears and recommend some permanent repairs. He didn't charge for helping out, which was greatly appreciated and I'll be going back soon to have the full repairs carried out.

I put my bike into Biketrax the other day to have the brakes looked at - they bled both brakes and replaced the pads, and now they work like a dream! Great value from an independent bike store moreso when the bike industry is seeing shortages of components and parts as well as frames like never before. This is a small, independent bike shop with a slant towards mountain-biking. They hire out bikes for 24 hour periods. I found them helpful and informative when I came here to buy a new inner tube for my bike. There's an informality about the place which I liked. Nobody actually said 'dude', but I think I heard a couple of 'bro's in there. I would trust them to sell me the right product more than I would trust other outlets.

I've been using these guys for the last few years, it's the best bike shop in town, any town! Genuinely helpful, professional and enthusiastic staff who go out of their way to help you. This review is long overdue as I actually bought my bike from Biketrax in 2017 and never got round to writing anything. Shame on me as the staff were endlessly patient, encouraging me to try load of bikes, with no hard sell. Having been into Biketrax again today, I've been reminded just how excellent the service always is. The staff are generous with their knowledge, reliable, warm, friendly and always seem willing to go above and beyond what I would expect (my brake pads weren't in stock and the owner was willing to give me the ones from his own bike!). Came here looking for a gravel bike, wanting something special enough to be a major birthday present (to me!) and nice enough to inspire me to ride. Very friendly staff took time to understand my needs, and offered me a range of bikes to try. Returned the next day to test ride 3, one of which belonged to the shop owner - very trusting. All 3 bikes were tempting, all excellent at their different price points, and not a million miles off internet prices. The staff totally understood that this was a heart as well as head choice and gave me lots of their time even though they were juggling a lot of other customers. I am 100% happy with my choice; 3 weeks on I have ridden almost every day which is a major change. Biketrax lent me SPD pedals as the ones I wanted were out of stock; these are from the rental operation - so note this, you can rent a bike and they'll put on the pedals you need. Good range of kit in the shop and they are more than happy to discuss what you need, to the extent that I was downsold on pedals. I'm delighted to have found such a good local bike shop with such friendly and enthusiastic staff, and will be back. Heartily recommended.

Luke and the rest of the staff were incredibly helpful. We were a large group from the U.S. cycling through Scotland and they were quick to answer our many questions before we hired the bikes. Additionally they gave us rental discounts and extras like bicycle tubes that we would only pay for if we used them; they were also very accommodating of our weird return schedules. Arraigning everything over email worked great and everything was completely as expected. I would highly recommend hiring bikes from Biketrax!

They are also happy talking through the pros and cons of different options and take the time to explain everything to the level of detail you ask for. I'd been in to browse and felt the shop inspired confidence, with a nice range of bikes for sale, including Bromptons and steel Genesis models, and have been back several times for help with the used bike that I'm building up. I've found the mechanics totally helpful and knowledgeable, with no inclination to urge me towards drastic changes on the bike (even when I wasn't sure what the solution might be). There are certain areas of maintenance where I lack expertise or the necessary tools, and Biketrax has been such a valuable source at these moments. I'll definitely be back next time, even though this isn't my most local bike shop, because I've found them very trustworthy here.

Brought my cheap bike to change the brakes and have a "quick check to see that everything was in order" and very honestly, knowing that they were losing a sale, they told me it wasn't worth it. We rented bikes from this shop for a week-long tour of the Borders. I can’t say enough about the guys who helped us. They were friendly, kind, and great bike mechanics who took much time to ensure that we were well-fitted to our bikes. After I rode my bike into a canal (long story involving cobblestones), they kindly offered a cup of earl gray tea, dry shirt, and a towel. I would give them 10 stars if I could.

After being at my usual bike shop for dodgy gear changes (who I bought my bike from 3 years ago) and being told that i had ro book it in even to even have it assessed 4 days from now, I passed Bike Trax on my way home after taking a wrong turn. So, popped, was greeted with nice customer service. The mechanic had a wee look, and tweaked the adjusted, and I was on my way within 5min. They didn't even charge me! So after this great 1st experience, I'll be back the next time I need a service or repair on my bike!

Biketrax saved the day when a bike we had rented from elsewhere (another establishment near Holyrood that shall not be namedto their credit they offered a full refund) fell apart just at the beginning of the canal. there is a reason why this place is so highly rated, I went in looking for a replacement tube, bought a levers as well, came back later because the bolt was stripped, they helped me get off the bolt and gave me tips on how to do everything easier. Just bought a Merida Ride lite 88 via cyclescheme (both of which I can also recommend). The shop was friendly, ordered the bike in promptly, assembled it well, and has a nice, well-curated selection of accessories. The mechanics are helpful. First day I got the bike home the front tire went flat overnight - took it in the next day and they pulled the tube, replaced it free of charge. I recommend this local shop.

Had a puncture on one tire. They recommended to change the whole tire instead of doing a repair. Adding some unsolicited repairs (like replacing the break wire on the crossbar), the bill amounted to £80. Note I paid £100 for the whole bike (second hand). I may add that tire valve broke two months after I bought the new tire. Thus you don't get extra quality for the extra price. In conclusion it was expensive and wouldn't recommend it.
