Reviews of NIU Edinburgh

I found Ross incredibly helpful, he spent a Saturday afternoon facilitating test drives of most of the models in the shop. I felt he was trying to get the best fit for us and not giving it the heavy sell. I’ve had the bike now for six weeks or so, totally love it. It’s ideal for folk in flats who can’t charge directly to the bike as the batteries are removable with very little hassle.

Ross gave Me and my wife a test drive together on two bikes at the same time, which we didn't expect! -my wife being a bit smaller than me- on two different bikes The MQI+ Sport and the NQI Sport. The result was the original bike i thought we wanted turned out a lot different. The bikes (i thought they were petrol they were bigger than i expected) are gorgeous and packed full of features that expensive ICE bikes rarely have. Alarm, movement sensors, Combined Braking System -split between front and back or vice versa- Braking ReGen to the battery, GPS tracking, onboard system health check all app connected and tons more!! The build quality is superb and so is the price. Ross delivered locally for free and thanks for the extras. If we had the room we would have two. Nothing but the birds, and wind to hear and smell the air! Zooming off to the shops and putting a surprising amount of shopping in the underseat storage and the monstrous 269Kg weight that the NQI can carry. It's mind boggling the tech in them. Go see Ross (and his brilliant father) ask as much as you can and be blown away. Driving this on our standard driving license -no L plates, NO CBT (as long as you passed before Feb 2001) It's BLISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To further add to the brilliant service. My bike was due it’s 90 day service and I had noticed that the rear brake pads were rubbing the disc and there was a bit of play on the brake lever. Ross picked up my bike and his father - Robert- worked on the brakes and they are now better than when I bought the bike! Superb service from a great team and Ross delivered my bike back. What more can you say.

Cannot give enough praise to Ross at NIU Edinburgh for my recent purchase.
Very easy from start to finish. From selecting the right model, ease of finance options and clarity in the figures.
Helped with extras I required and kept me informed of updates.
Overall a great experience. Enjoyed the ride home following picking up the bike and bow look forward to my daily commute.
5 star service.

Ross was excellent. Very patient and informative with me, having never ridden any kind of moped / scooter before. He took time to talk me through the bike options and let me take a few out for a test ride. He was then very helpful assisting me through the process of applying for an energy saving trust loan. The whole process was pain free and I am now the proud owner of a great electric moped. Thank you again Ross.

We went to enquire about purchasing a scooter as we needed to be down to a one car family for a while, we had many questions before we could make our decision.
We visited and spoke with Ross who was very helpful and answered everything, we purchased the scooter, Ross made the process quick and easy, he kept us in the loop from start to finish and one delivery explained everything.
100% recommendations from us

First class service provided by Ross at Edinburgh branch. Visited several times before making a purchase, Ross was always welcoming, friendly, knowledgable and helpful. I also had a test ride of several models before deciding on the best one for me. I’ve had a few mopeds over the years, but these are def the future. Love mine. Highly recommended.

Ross was very accommodating and knowledgeable and I would highly recommend getting in touch with him if you are curious about NIU bikes. I have used mine almost every day since purchase - we all love it!

I was looking for a commuter scooter when I came across NIU. I spoke to Ross on the phone and he recommended me the MQI+ Sport. I wanted something small and light because I am quite short (5'2") and this bike is perfect for that. If size is an issue for you, I can reach the ground with both my feet and I can easily push the bike up on curbs.
I didn't know anything about anything motorcycle related and Ross recommended me CBT training places in the city as well as insurance companies to check out which I found really helpful. He replies really quickly when I have questions about to how to do something on the bike. The finance was very easy to sort out and the bike arrived in less than a week even though they didn't have one in store.
The bike runs really great, it accelerates fast and tackles those Edinburgh hills pretty decently. I love all the safety tech features on it which you can't find in more expensive competitors. I personally can't stand how loud petrol scooters are and this one just makes absolutely no sound.
I overall had a very good experience with this shop, Ross and my bike, I would highly recommend it anyone who is looking for alternative ways to get around the city.

We went to Edinburgh to have a look at the different bikes available & we were so convinced with all the information given by Ross that we made up our mind to buy one.
Ross was very good in providing all information in how bike works and in keeping up with what needs to be done next. He is so committed in replying emails and it makes the whole process so much easier.
He delivered our bike on time and I could not have been much happier.

Great help from Ross (the owner) who knows the products and how to advise on financing options (+ what to make sure you get right first time). The scooter is a first class bit of engineering and is a really smooth ride. The app is helpful not only for monitoring battery life (which is actually significantly greater / more efficient that others I tried) but also for the peace of mind it provides by allowing you to check that the bike is where you last left it (!!). I can't imagine ever going back to petrol bike and competitors will find it hard to match the Niu for performance and price.

I recently purchased an NIU sport electric moped from NIU Edinburgh. Ross was very patient, knowledgeable and his customer service was top notch. Definitely recommend this shop to anyone looking to purchase an electric bike

I'm really enjoying my NIU NQI Pro, purchased from the NIU flagship store on Dalry Road. Great fun to ride and saving me so much time getting around the city.
Ross was absolutely fantastic from the minute I entered the shop. Really helpful in setting me up for a test ride, and totally efficient when it came to purchasing a bike, getting it registered with DVLA and delivering it to my house.
I can absolutely recommend NIU Edinburgh if you're in the market for a better way of getting around the city

Ross was very helpful from the start. he gave me helpful recommendations and organised a test drive. The bike is incredible - powerful, smooth and very quiet! Overall a great experience from start to finish and I’ve using the bike in the streets I’d Edinburgh - pure joy! Many thanks Ross.

As I got a job in the city centre I decided to purchase an electric scooter for doing the daily commute. After doing a bit of research it seemed that NIU seemed to offer a value for money electric scooter and there was a dealer in Edinburgh. I went to see Ross at the Gorgie NIU dealership and he was very helpful, he let me take a scooter out for a few hours, and although I am used to larger petrol engined bikes, I found this method of transport quite fun, and ideal for a daily commute in the city. I ended up buying an NQI GTS Sport. Ross delivered the bike promptly. I found the whole process dealing with him, very easy and pleasant. I have no hesitation in recommending this NIU dealer in Edinburgh

Ross at NIU is so helpful. He helped me pick the right bike for my needs. The UQI GT Pro. I went in for the most expensive one as well! But he recommended I get the newest and cheapest model for commuting to work and back. No hard sale, just genuine and helpful service. Since having my scooter Ross has been amazing in helping me with answering all my questions and getting all set up. Highly recommend you go electric. Cheers Ross and NIU. ✌🏼❤️

Superb service from Ross, I had a problem with an electric scooter I purchased 2 years ago from NIU in London (before Ross’s business started). He took on board the issue and resolved it through the warranty. He kept me updated throughout the process and went above and beyond what I expected, great customer care and a pleasure to deal with. 5 stars from me, I thoroughly recommend this company.

I found out about Niu Edinburgh from Instagram. As this is my first electric bike, I didn’t have a clue what I was signing up for. Ross, the owner, was very patient and helpful with me throughout my bike selection process. He helped me to choose a bike that suits my needs best. He even offered me some financing advice for getting an electric motorcycle.

Great service from Ross from start to finish!
My 16 year old daughter loves her white scooter. We bought it for her to got to work and back.
No additional running costs as it's electric.
Great buy and great for scooting about locally.
Thanks again Ross.

Great showroom. Ross is really helpful and easy to deal with. Impossible not to love riding around town on one of these machines with no noise, no fumes, no parking hassle and loads of fun.My car is lonely these days and it is a really nice car!

Very helpful and fully intend getting an electric scooter. Everything was explained for test drive that I needed. Didn't have much time due to parking though.
B. M.
Great service from Ross. No pressure start to finish. Answered all our questions and delivered our scooter for free over 20 miles away. Best purchase we have made in a long time - great fun and inexpensive to run.

Quality service throughout, informative, timely, professional and friendly.
Was very pleased with the consistency and speed of communication maintained by Ross at Niu Edinburgh throughout the entire process. The scooter is pretty epic too!
Highly recommend!
On a related note, applying for the EV loan is a lot easier than you'd think, it only took me 3 weeks with christmas and new years in between, get stuck in before the grant/benefit runs out!

From my first contact with NIU Edinburgh the service was fantastic. They provided me with all the information I needed to select the right Scooter for me. They were able to offer advice on how to apply for the Government Electric vehicle loan, what I'd need in terms of license and were able to advise good insurers for electric scooters as many either wont supply a quote or, due to not knowing much about the vehicles, will give vastly overinflated costs.
On top of that they were able to source additional safety and security gear I wanted at a great price and quickly.
I've taken delivery of my scooter and it's fantastic. Charging is really simple, the security features (Steering lock, Alarm, GPS tracking and an app notifying you of the scooter being knocked or moved) are great, and most of all it looks really good. I had been looking at a more famous brand which shall remain nameless, but they were twice th rprice of this and I think this looks just as good.
I couldn't recommend NIU Edinburgh highly enough if you're looking to buy an electric scooter either to reduce your carbon footprint, avoid busy public transport, beat rush hour queues or all three.

Model: NQi GTS Sport
45mph max 55mile range average 3 driving modes: Sport, dynamic, eco
I’d never tried electric before, so I arranged a test ride with the very amenable Ross. He knew I wasn’t a serious buyer, but that was no problem and there was no sales pressure at all. Ross understands that at the moment, lots of us need to dip our toes in the water.
NIU is a Chinese maker, but at the premium end of the market. They use Bosch motors. NIU has a fair range of models, broadly equivalent to 50cc mopeds or 125cc scooters. There is a model that can be driven on a car licence, without the need for a CBT test for older licence-holders – though I’d recommend CBT Test for safety, it’s a 1-day course! Top speed can be 30 or 45mph so you probably wont go abroad on one. Some models have a second battery for more range, and the top model has Panasonic batteries which boosts range again. Battery pulls out so you can plug it into a charger in the house. I wondered about buying multiple batteries so you always had a charged one – Ross thinks few will do that at about a grand a battery.
Ross chose me a NQi GTS Sport. That’s a double-battery model with the larger 14” wheels, roughly equivalent to a 125cc petrol. It’s about £2800 to buy says Ross (and some employers will give you an interest-free loan to buy an EV). He shows me over it, pulling out batteries, and starting it up in the shop….after a beat, I realise that’s fine – no fumes, no noise. Ross accelerates off across the shop floor!
Hmmm, 525cc less than the bike I arrived at the shop on. No clutch, no gears. It’s early January and 2oC outside with frost and a little snow on the ground. The scoot has 50 miles on the clock. I think about the £2800 price tag as I set off gingerly.
Range is about 55 miles. I ended up being out for an hour and a half, despite near-zero temps ...it was just so charming!!
A bizarre sense of calm, floating along in silence. No gears, no clutch, no sensation of any kind of motor stopping or starting... really calming, even in city traffic.
45mph top speed, enough oomph to manage every hill I found, and reasonably torquey from standstill. I managed a wheelspin at one point, but that was only on an ungritted frosty side-street, The NIU was very well-behaved indeed. Brilliant brakes, handles nicely, and big wheels on this model coped with 80% of Edinburgh’s famous potholes. As I rode around, I tried to remember if it was the foot brake or hand brake that was linked - Ross had explained, but I'd not properly taken it all in. Turned out that BOTH controls operate both brakes - perception is a funny thing! However, they are great - powerful enough, but reassuring rather than grabby. Indicators are auto-cancel, and also have a bleeper (not as annoying as I expected); in fact the only thing I didn't really like were the mirrors - just too wee and too inboard, but perhaps they're designed to survive topples! In any case, easily changed.
Home after 30 miles, mostly in “sport mode”, with 30% charge left. I used sport mode (maximum) when I was in 40, 50 or national speed limit, and used "dynamic" (middle mode) in town - it limits speed to 30 and drops oomph a wee bit. I also tried eco mode when traffic was very slow - limits you to 15mph, but will allow you to limp home if battery is on last legs.
The GTS Sport is always going to be desirable for wee scrotes, and even big ones. With this in mind, it (and I think pretty much all of the NIU range) comes with a tracker, anti-theft alert, and wobble alert, all linkable to your phone. The bike's software is also upgradeable. I’d still chain it to something solid if left it anywhere.
Electric scooters with number plates, insurance, MOT, and a licencing system have got to be vastly preferable to unregulated and illegal “escooters” all over our pavements (and very soon, filling up our canals and urban waterways). And if you're going to buy one, I'd suggest that paying a bit extra for the quality of a NIU scooter might mean you get to enjoy the experience a whole lot more, and for longer.

A very stylish and innovative mode of transport that is incredible value for money. I had a great in shop experience provided by a relaxed, friendly and knowledgeable member of staff. The shop layout is very slick and fresh. The test drives are free, so why not give it a go !
