Reviews of Bike for Good - Glasgow West
H. C.
Peter and Kate were very helpful. Purchased a new bike with their help and a set of lights and a fabulous new lock. Great value. All brand new. Peter fixed my lights and the lock onto the frame, so I was ready for action. Maintenance and second hand sales also available. Friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. Dog friendly too. All round was a great experience.

Got a second-hand bike for amazingly cheap price. Mr. Connor at the reception was extremely cordial, made me comfortable and answered all my questions patiently. Overall great shop to educate yourself about bikes in general.
A. J.
I went in to Bikes for Good (west end) yesterday, my mind was blown. Karolis, Conner and Eddie were extremely generous with their time for my questions. I spent 3 hours there, and felt very comfortable. I’m picking up my bike today! Conner was so accommodating, making a few changes to the bike of my choice to suit my needs. If you want a bike, I seriously suggest buying from Bikes for Good for so many reasons. An amazing workshop + egos aside + all of your bike needs + classes and some gorgeous recycled bikes, the list goes on. Go to the website and check out the offerings, it’s seriously incredible. Also, donations are how they operate. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had a very old bike that needed some tuning. Brought it to this place to work on it myself in the workshop and now it is so much better! Having not much experience, I learned so much from the really friendly staff that helped a lot! Amazing experience, highly recommend!

10/10 friendly staff, very helpful, not pretentious at all, warm and welcoming. Thanks to Eddie for the great customer service. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a non-intimidating place to buy your next (or your first!) bicycle. I just moved to Scotland and needed a used bike to get around on. Found this place on google and came back two Fridays in a row to find a used bike in my budget (they have new stock from bikes they fix up every week). Today I found a winner! And now I have a beautiful bike for me to tour around Glasgow on! 😁🚲 ❤️

The repair your own bike service is highly recommended: access to a fully equipped bike workshop with experienced people to help you not only fix your bike but also help you learn how to go about it.
A. R.
Peter is as sound as they come. Fixed my brake and pumped my tyres for me as an added bonus. Local hero. The guy outside with the viking beard (sorry I forgot your name) is also class. Thanks very much.
C.
Fix your own bike session: The staff really supports you and passes their knowledge on to you. I learned a lot and am greatful for the patience and welcoming atmosphere.

I’ve had two bikes repaired or serviced at Bike For Good in the last couple of years, and it’s been like getting a new bike back each time. I recently decided to learn a bit more about maintaining my bike myself so attended a Fix Your Own Bike session to try to sort out my gears. I got a great, easy to understand explanation of what the problem was, was shown how to resolve it, and helped to sort it on my own. Did a 25 mile ride the day after with zero issues, I’m totally delighted and will be booking another FYOB session next time something needs fixing.
E.
Fantastic! Amy and the gang were so helpful, taking me through the basics as I was clueless! Felt like a great place to learn and not feel stupid or patronised, and it was so empowering to be able to do things myself for the first time, I flew home! Also now feel more confident to maintain my bike and use it as transport around Glasgow. And more connected to my bike in general. Thank you all so much!

If your into your bikes then this is the place to go... Charity at its best. Brilliant selection of bikes for sale
D. G.
This place is great for cycle enthusiasts, there is a great selection of bikes to buy at cost effective prices. That said, when I was shopping around, a guy said they were closed despite having the doors open to customers. He said "did you not see the sign on the door saying go away?" No, I didn't 😂
L. M.
Bike for good Staff have been great. We run a community group and they have gave us great advice on bikes gave us a chance to try them out on bike sessions and have sourced new bikes and equipment for us at a competitive price. We have had cycle lead sessions with their friendly and experienced staff providing support to build confidence encouraging people to cycle more often and safely. There Dr bike sessions have made essential bike repairs and happy community members.

Popped in to ask how to go about booking a service...they took my car from the boot of my car on the spot, carried out the necessary work and an extra job of supplying and fitting a bottle holder to frame... wouldn't take any cash (but of course I left some). Fantastic service. Cheerful, helpful people. No hesitation in recommending
s. g.
Had a great session, got everything I needed sorted done, everyone was super friendly and Hannah was really helpful and great at showing and explaining while still letting you do the fixings yourself! Worth the money to fix my wheel and a great way to learn a bit more about bikes!
k. a.
After emailing the shop (I thought I was just missing an important screw) I brought my bike in and a friendly guy sorted my front brake out. He also sorted the front mudguard which has been rattling for months. Really pleased and would definitely reccommend this place!
E. C.
Wonderful staff, great customer service, would definitely use again!

My experience at Bike for Good have been nothing short of wonderful and I would recommend it ANYTIME to anyone that needs some help with their bike.
I went to Bike for good for a DIY fixing of my bike on a Saturday a couple of weeks ago and the staff (there was a woman and a man whose names I cannot remember but which were so nice and benevolent) helped me extensively. They even changed some piece of equipment on my brakes that had its screw thread damaged and did not even charged me for that. There was more to fix than I thought and they did not budge and happily went through.
It was so nice to have those people willing to be genuinely helpful and teaching me so patiently how to fix and take care of my own bike. It felt so good not to be in a commercially pushy place, but people that you feel, just only care about helping you.
The cherry on the cake is that you pay whatever you want for the service. The price range goes from 0 to 15£ (cannot remember exactly) depending of your financial capability.
D. B.
Bikes for Good provide a great service for all our Community Members at Phoenix Futures. Even through these difficult times they have been taking people out biking, people who have not had that opportunity in the past. It has been great for their emotional well-being as well as their physical health.
We look forward to working in partnership with Bikes for Good in the future.

I had a guy do some repairs on one if my bikes where l needed repairs done to the wheels.
In a shop on byres Road l was quoted 180+tax in this repair shop it cost only £30.
Very good service indeed.
I Highly recommend this shop.
L. G.
Love this place. Dropped my bike off here for a fix a few weeks back and the staff were super friendly. They did an MOT of the bike and recommended a bunch of things they could do, unfortunately I was tight money at the time so opted to only have the original issue repaired. When I went to to collect the bike the next day i realised they actually also replaced my old worn out hard saddle with a new comfortable one, without me asking them too!
Its also very affordable as they use second hand parts.
Great cause, great people, great service!
L. H.
Have used the Bike Station for both the Fix Your Own Bike workshops and now for a service. Both excellent, the workshop was brilliant and I highly recommend it! I only went in to change some tyres, but the staff also helped me change my brake cables and provided the parts at a low cost. The service was good, I thought that my bike would need a full service, but the guy was very honest and said I only needed a basic service. They also changed some parts which were provided at a low cost. Really quick turn around, incredibly helpful staff, much cheaper than other bike shops I've been to!
B. D.
This is a great place. A wonderful, sustainable and low cost alternative to costly bike shops. The staff here are all super friendly and helpful. I always genuinely enjoy visiting and feel the need to grab some treats for the staff as a thank you.
One staff member in particular is very helpful and thoughtful. Craig helps do me greatly by finding me a great pair of chunky tyres for trail riding and gave me lots of great advice.
If you're in the area with a wonky bike, I highly recommend stopping by, great place for spares, repairs and second hand bikes. Many thanks to all involved.
L. K.
I handed my much loved bike for servicing as I had been repairing it myself for years but knew I wasn't keeping it at such a high standard so took it to these guys at Bike for Good!
They were friendly, helpful and they have fixed my bike up in such a wonderful way that it feels like a new bike! This repair was so my bike would be ready for a bike charity cycle adventure around Ireland. I feel more confident now and look forward to raising even more money for Enable Scotland!
Thanks so much!
J. V.
When it comes to the shop, the service is below average. I've been here twice. Both times I had to wait over 10 minutes to pay. In the meantime, various employees came out doors, only to disappear through another. If your looking for bike parts, choose another shop.
UPDATE: Dear Janie, thank you for your response. I can understand not all staff would be able to man the checkout, but communication could help. Today I wanted to give BfG another chance and I came in for a wheel. A staff member came to help me instantly. Unfortunately, when I came home, he gave me the wrong size wheel. After going back to the store again, I was able to change the wheel to the right size, no questions asked, no extra pay.
All in all I can see Bike for Good has the best intentions and try to deliver fair bike(parts) for fair prices.
T. I.
Popped in to see the collection as I was looking for an used bike to buy. Adam was really helpful, friendly and knowledgable, suggested me the kind of bike I need, height & size etc. He also showed me few bikes within my budget range and gave me chance to test ride. He also helped me to understand how bike gears work during uphill/downhill situation (as I had no knowledge about it). And ended up buying a bike and happy with my purchase! Happy cycling :)
A. A. M.
I spent a month in Glasgow last July and decided to buy one of Bike for Good's refurbished second hand bikes (which typically go for around £80-100).
Firstly, the staff members who helped were extremely welcoming and patient with me, and were really great with helping me to choose the right bike. Secondly, the bike was refurbished really well and was a pleasure to ride, even though it was clearly a second hand bike. It felt really crisp to ride and I had no problem selling it on at the end of my 1 month stay in Glasgow.
Lastly, it just seems that Bike for Good are really involved in helping out various communities in and around Glasgow, and while I can't comment on the effectiveness of their various programmes because I haven't been involved in them, their sense of social responsibility impressed me.
K. 1.
Over an hour wait in the cold and wet to see about 12 bikes. 8 of which were identical road bikes. The 2 mountain bikes available seemed a tad overpriced for what they were as well. Couple hundred quid each for a basic bike without mud guards or lights.
If I may make some suggestions please.
Have 15 minute appointment slots and be able to book these slots online for folk to turn up at X time to have a look around / come down for repairs etc.
Have pictures of all your current stock online / facebook. This saves folk the hassle of waiting around to see 8 of the exact same bike.
All the best for the future.
*Edit
Hi Kimberley, thanks for the reply.
I did come down early on the Saturday. I arrived at 8:30am or so, which I thought was early enough for your 9am open time, but I was still 11th in the queue, and that still took over an hour for me to gain entry.
(Lesson here is to turn up at 8am or before I guess?)
I did check your facebook page on the Friday to see what stock you had, but it was in a list style, rather than pictures. Being as most of your stock is second-hand, it's difficult to tell what condition, colour, accessories etc, a bike has by just a list. (Logistically, it would be more time consuming to take pictures of your stock though, so I understand why you have the list)
I do appreciate that you are facing hard times at the moment though, and there is only so much you can do. I hope you all stay safe and continue to do good work for the community.
シ.
Bike for Good are a first class organisation, committed to promoting cycling in the local community. During the initial Covid 19 lockdown, Bike for Good staff volunteered to deliver frozen meals and groceries to people in need, in the local community. Bike for Good volunteers rode cargo bikes and delivered around 400 meals per week during the lockdown. They worked in partnership with local housing associations, community centres and a mental health charity. A tremendous organisation, with a social conscience and a genuine commitment to helping the local community.

Bought a great mountain bike for my son with the help of very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The next day I recommended The Bike Station to a friend and she found the perfect bike for her son, too! A constant turnover of refurbished bikes of all styles means you never know what gem you are going to find on the next visit... A brilliant place!
M. T.
Awesome team doing good in the community. We arrived mid day on Saturday with almost no choice. Bikes are not cheap here. Pretty pricy. But the cause and service is good. Best arrive early on a Saturday for good choice.
J. C.
I have started cycle lessons. With these guys and doing a ladys only cycle group as well the are totally awesome I would highly recommend these guys. 🚴♂️
K. V.
It was a great experience and the staff there are really very helpful and quick in what they do. I personally had a very good experience for my kids bike.
b.
I used to rate this 5 stars but looking at it now this shop is just not that good. Staff are ok but quality of bikes is not. Expensive, especially since all the bikes are donated (high income margins) and recycled however all the materials they use to rebuild the bike are dirty and old, despite passing their check. At least use new chains or clean the bikes, even just a bit. When I bought my first bike here, they were very helpful however the bike was in terrible condition and fell apart quickly, and they still charged me despite the warranty to fix it. My tyre inner tubes flattened and the chain snapped. It only lasted a few months. A hipster shop part of the west end basically, and it's pointless helping a cause if the bike you bought would fall apart anyway.
I wouldn't buy from here (it's good for fixing only) and would definitely recommend Halfords since its the same price for a brand new bike.
S. G.
Bikes for Good in the West End is such a great place. We attended a family bike event there and got to try out a number of different bike seats, trailers & cargo bikes so we could get mobile with your kids. A brilliant place!
J. L.
Dropped off my kids bikes they'd outgrown. Staff were all so welcoming and friendly. Such a good vibe about the place. I'd recommend you give them a try before looking elsewhere for a bargain bike. Managed to pick up some accessories whilst I was in and they cost buttons. Brilliant place!
A. A.
Helpful and friendly staff with a constantly changing selection of recycled/reinstated/reloved bikes and bike parts for sale. In addition, some new bikes and accessories are also available. Best of all, you can take along your own bike and use their workshop to service it and, if required, professional advice is given for free.
t. d.
My bike was serviced elsewhere a month ago & was botched to say the least & i didn't want to take it back to them again. Took it to The Bike Station & they done a great job sorting out the issues i had. I knew as soon as I got on the bike for a quick test run following the service that they'd fixed it and my Cannondale Synapse disc road bike is running like a dream again. Cant comment highly enough. Thank you.
I.
Bought a SH Trek Hybrid for £60 on eBay and found the front changer siezed so asked Bike For Good (or The Bike Station as they were called at the time) to replace it with a SH part. They phoned me back next day to say they'd unseized the original part so only asked for a small charge for their time.
Since then I've had my own and my kids bikes serviced and some minor repairs (including new cables and brake blocks) done for free by their mobile Dr Bike service.
When I finally got around to buying myself a new bike I gave them the Trek to recycle, confident it'll be fixed up and sold on in much better working order than when I bought it!
H.
Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Reasonable prices as well. One mechanic insisted on spending 15 minutes finding the hub bearings that I was looking for online when he discovered they didn't have them in the shop. Really great service. They also sell various second hand components and frames at good prices.
e. p.
Lovely place,,,lovely people,,,can't recommend enough..5 stars all round...

The mechanics are the stars here. At Fix Your Own Bike they will get you through thick and thin like a team of A&E staff. Blinding value as a service both pocket wise and educationally. But really the sole basis of its claim to be a social amenity. Otherwise just another trendy-pricey bike shop albeit trading in second hand-only built bikes and in a subsidized huge space and which keeps changing its name - irritatingly.
L. H.
I went to a Spokes Not Blokes session. It was amazing! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Now I feel a lot more confident in fixing a puncture!
C. D.
Fantastic service received! I bought a bike that was in desperate need of repair and after 24 hours work from Bike for Good it is almost as if it is brand new! Very thankful! Also, they are decently priced, I will be back!!
L. K.
I have just come back from three weeks cycling in France with a touring bike built by The Bike Station. I had the most amazing time especially as they did such a good job building my customised bike. They managed to find a small enough frame for me and it fit perfectly.
P.
The Dr Bike virtual session was absolutely brilliant. I learned so much about how to replace my own brake pads, and it was fun and straightforward to use the virtual meeting room.
L. T.
I used the "fix your own bike" corner once and the staff was really helpful and nice! Although I thought I would have to change the gears, the guys there just showed me how to repair and I paid really little money for second hand parts!
I would definitely recommend the shop and the fix your own, especially if you are on a budget!
A. m.
My bike broke on the way home from the shop. Luckly The bike depot was right around the corner. Staff were super friendly. Happened to be a fix your own bike day and I managed to fix my bike and learn some new skills in the process. Cant give enough praise. Great bike shop and great staff.
A. M.
Dropped in today and spoke to Nina about Next Bikes. She was super friendly and informative. She signed us up for Next Bikes and took us through the process of using the bikes. Now feel confident and good to go. Thanks Nina.

Thanks Carlos.
I was struggling to get a solution to my failing brakes.
On my way out, Carlos was coming in and gave me a cheerful hello and asked how my bike was.
In two minutes, he tightened my brake cables and we agreed for me to come back to get them checked over.
Got home safely.
Nothing worse than dodgy brakes!
David. 😊

It isn't the first time I went to The Bike Station. I had to fix a flat tyre. The price is absolutely ok, and they also cleaned my chain without having to ask. Very friendly service as well, and these guys obviously know their job. Can only recommend! :-)
J. A.
Went along due to faulty breaks and gears, feared the worst and was expecting it to be a costly fix. Staff were amazing! convinced me to fix my own bike which I wouldn't have managed without the help of Cole. Within 10 minutes the problems were diagnosed and fixed. Can't thank them enough!
R. B.
Thank you for the bike maintenance class, very informative and useful! Just hope I never need to put some of it into practice!
M. D.
Excellent mini-service whilst doing Lands End to John O Groats. Cannot recommend enough. Thank you for tightening my spokes, and making sure my bike was OK :) :) :) :) We got to John O Groats :D
a. l.
Helpful staff and no pressure really appreciated. COVID restrictions meant a wait to get in but all was well organised and there was a good selection of bikes available.
D. G.
Went to their fix it yourself workshop, was welcomed, shown the ropes, given good advice by both staff and a volunteer, and help finding the correct spare part and now my bike is running like new, I did it myself (with their expert guidance) at the cost of less than a tenner including parts.
B. M.
Very helpful and know their stuff. Always friendly and patient with my technical ignorance. A great place for bringing bikes back to life and spare parts when need be. Can't rate the Bike Station highly enough.
M. C.
A perfect example of customer centric business.
I recommend business schools to send our future business leaders to the bike station to let them learn true sense of customer experience. Salute to you guys, May you grow many folds
k. F.
Came in this morning with a very anxious 8 year old girl . All staff were friendly. Adam helped us out and took time with her. We both felt she would need a lot of confidence building. Nope, now cycling round the local park. Thank you so much. (Wish we could share the video.)
C. B.
Brilliant on the spot service for my snapped chain, and a bit of general bike chat as well!
For my 40yo Falcon with Imperial unit components too!
S. P.
DO NOT GO TO HALFORDS! Quoted £220 for a service. These guys did it for £130. Friendly, explained everything in detail, have several options and cut costs in the end of £20. Thank you to every single guy/girl in the bike station! Job well done.
A. M.
Really friendly people, great and fast service. Definitely bringing my bike here again.
R. M.
It's a great place to go get your bike fixed, and for information about cycling. And they do cycling training for children and adults. As well as helping out the local community and everment.
F. K.
The best place if you’re looking for a good bike for a very good price. Buzzing environment and very helpful staff. 100/100

The best bike shop in Glasgow. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Building your own bike is so much fun and rewarding with the staff to guide you.

I dedicate my comment to Sandy who is such a nice person. He seems to be familiar with everything around bikes and does have excellent repair skills. On top of that, he is very patient and supportive.
S. T.
Trusted mechanics with quotes on two bikes that dIdnt require level of replacement kit as initially quoted and prices were reduced- nice surprise on both counts- gave them a bike to recycle- Culture of this place lives up to its name
E. K.
Waited for 20 minutes and there was not a single staff at the front the entire time.
Went a second time and the staff were great bought myself a bike and some accessories. Will come back again.
D. A.
my youngest is a late learner and as a surprise we came to your shop for a bike
we picked a bike and stood about waiting a young lad finally approached without any niceties but did ask if we need a helmet not even this bike is to big or small
shop is excellent but customer service not so good
overhearing other staff members their customers were getting great service

but daughter is still delighted
