Reviews of Crazy Horse Bike Workshop

On Friday my bike had an issue with the valve which meant it slowly released air…3 of us at work tried to pump up, using 3 different pumps, but still slowly deflating. Phoned Crazy Horse who kindly told me to bring in after work. Issue was sorted within minutes and collars and caps kindly added to both front and back tyres. When i asked the cost, I was told that they didn’t charge for this issue!! Very kind and helped get me back on my commute. Would highly recommend.

Exceptional service. Came in for a puncture tire and he was happy to fix it despite even though he was just about to close the shop. Even tighten my brakes too! Highly recommend this shop
J. N.
I caught a flat tyre on the way home and needed it fixing really quickly as I'd otherwise be late. He fitted me in amongst the other work that needed doing and I was on my way 30 minutes later. Much appreciated!

If you looking for an honest person who truly he will help you out and fix your bicycle in very good price then you should visit..I’ve been to another two bicycle shops Balham road and both of them told me oh you have to leave the bike into our store etc. and it will cost £50 to change pads when my bicycle doesn’t even need pads..True story. You can trust this men with close eyes.
A. P.
Popped in today and got a helpful adjustment to my gears and very good value for money. Will definitely take my bike back.
D. G.
I came in re a dodgy wheel and left with a smoother running bike all round. The brakes and the gears feel better than (possibly) ever. All for a reasonable price. Great service all round, not grumpy at all as some other reviews have mentioned :)
Edit: Back again! I don't visit bike workshops often and undertake basic maintenance myself, but I am usually reluctant to get my bike looked at professionally when I have a concern. It is a BSO after all. Here, I don't have to worry about some random diagnosis and extortionate repair estimates. Gary is happy to give simple solutions and advice for free or at a fair price. I will not hesitate to return!
P. K.
I do not live close to this shop but I do not hesitate to grab my bike, travel an hour and leave it with Gary every time when needed. He is professional, his knowledge is amazing and he is fair. The shop is open on Sundays so if you have any emergency you can go there in the morning and he will sort your bike out as well. This is what I call a customer service therefore 6 stars! Thank you very much for being outstanding!

Really honest, reliable service from here after a bad experience elsewhere. Won't go anywhere else from now on to get my bike sorted!
I. M.
I took my bike here after it had been damaged following a failed wheel theft. I was called before any work began and was informed that the service wouldn’t be completed entirely as there was more damage than previously thought.
Nevertheless the work done made the bike feel like new, the ride is smooth and the gear changes are sublime.
I’ll defo be back once I source the part needed for a complete service.

New resident to the area and my single speed needed a service. Spotted Crazy Horse and decided to take it in there. Excellent service from Gary and had it looking great in no time. Would recommend and will be my new go to for both bikes in the future!
E. B.
Relatively new to the area and needed to get my bike serviced. Went here based on previous reviews and having been in there a couple of times. The bike is now running the best it ever has and anytime I've been in there to ask for help or the odd small part they've always been happy to help. Fantastic place and would definitely recommend, the mechanic (sorry I didn't get your name!) definitely knows his stuff and you can trust him!
T. T.
Would thoroughly recommend getting your bike serviced here; the prices are fair given the amount of time and attention to detail given. They talk you through all of the issues found and dealt with, and the parts they have replaced are kept so you can actually see exactly what you've received.
A. L.
Gary the owner is a fantastic bicycle mechanic. He seriously knows his stuff and will give you a truly fair price. I checked the price of all the parts he put on my bike and it was 100% legit. I took my old B.S.A bicycle in and Gary converted it to a silky smooth single speed. GOKU BICYCLES opposite said it was ‘unrepairable’ and it would be too much work for them. (They are suppose to be fixed gear specialists) Luckily Gary knew his stuff and was able to fix and complete my bike in just over a week. I would fully recommend him to anyone. My next job is to get my handlebars changed and add a rear brake.
THANKS GARY!!
J. A.
Helpful, knowledgeable, and fair. Always prefer to use my local bike shop and this is one of the best. The owner gives great advice and the mechanic is quick and excellent at his job. Parts are well priced and come with good advice.
14 Jul - update; went back again for a service - excellent repair, helpful staff and quick turn around.

Took my bike to Crazy Horse following a complementary after-purchase "tighten up" from Evans that completely ruined it.
Gary sorted the bike promptly and returned it in fantastic condition; it felt like a brand new bike again. He also gave me some great advice regarding frame alignment and things to spot-check on new bikes.
If Vitality weren't partnered with Evans (I avoid Evans but there was a large cash saving available) I'd have bought my bike from Crazy Horse in a heartbeat; the customer service is fantastic.

Gary is a true saint! Took my bike in for a service after it sitting in my shed for two years. Gary had it working within two weeks. Would 100% recommend Crazy Horse.
Adding to my review here on 9th June.
Was involved in a nasty collision vs. car (unfortunately the car one). Gary gave great advice, and produced a report for the bike which is what the insurers asked for. I cannot recommend Crazy Horse Bike Shop enough.
S. O.
I have been to Crazy Horse several times for advice and when it came time to doing the minor repairs I decided to try them myself. Afterwards, when the bike didn't seem to be quite right I took it in and had it fixed at no charge. Now it runs perfectly smooth.
Regarding the service, while there is not much small talk that is not what you go to a bike shop for. On all occasions I have been seen to promptly and with courtesy. The gentleman is highly proficient with bikes.
D. B.
Took my bike in for service - Coventry eagle over thirty years old. Both the work and the customer service were outstanding. The bike now rides as well, if not better, than it did when I bought it. Very good value for money. What a joy - I am delighted. Many thanks and highly recommended.

I had previously been to the shop across the street to ask about a basket and a new bolt and they were extremely unhelpful! I decided to try out Gary's shop and the difference was night and day. He explained what was wrong with my bike and helped with a temporary fix so I could get where I was going. I will definitely be back to fix it permanently and would recommend if you need a skilled bike mechanic.
A. B.
Great shop, Gary always does a great job of fixing our bikes, often at short notice. To the chap who wrote the negative review, there's not much point being all smiles and then over promise and under deliver.
D. C.
I bought my bike from Crazy Horse Balham three years ago and have used their services ever since. Highly professional, very fair in both sales and service and always helpful. Their after sales is excellent, always willing to sort out difficulties and my bike runs like clockwork after servicing. If you are serious about cycling - use these guys, they know their stuff. David Collins, Balham, London.

Excellent service...dropped my bike off at 11am Sunday morning to repair a badly buckled wheel. Got a text at 2pm to say it's ready! On a Sunday! Can't fault the service and the repair. Under normal circumstances the wheel should have been binned, but they worked their magic and I am back on the road within 3 hours....on a Sunday! Seen some disparaging comments about attitude and grumpiness on here...if you want a laugh, go round the corner to the Bedford Arms on comedy night....if you want excellent, expert service and repairs, go to Crazy Horse Bikes! Thank you!
B. P.
Have just been to Crazy Horse for the first time. Live locally in the area but tend to stick to Balham shops as it's closer to me. Am glad I ventured down to Tooting to pop in. Gary was pleasant and friendly and quickly fitted a chain that I had tried (and failed miserably) to fit myself. Really courteous service and I'll be sure to pop back when my bike needs a service or other repairs.
W. A.
Crazy horse bike workshop has been the best workshop I have been so far. The customers service and advice giving is without doubt, absolutely outstanding. The repairs are amazing, its like the repairs make the bikes look better because of the hard work.

I got Crazy Horse to fit a headset into the oversized head tube of a new frame for me. The headtube turned out to be a few points of a mm too thick to allow the headset to mate, so they had to order in some new tools to get the parts to mate, and they were in constant communication throughout to let me know what was happening. It's to the mechanic's credit that he didn't just try to force it on.
Once I'd finished building the rest of the bike up myself, a few months later I took it back to them for some finishing jobs. When I picked it back up they'd done everything I'd asked them to, but had also replaced a couple of missing spacers and fixed my half-hearted attempt at setting my own brakes up, at no extra charge.
Furthest away of all my local bike shops, but worth the trek!
L. B.
Popped in on the way home from work with a clicking noise, Gary had a quick look and sorted the problem out in a flash! Instead of charging a bomb to replace everything he checked everything quickly and gave me some advice on what to do. Excellent service. I will use Crazy Horse for future bicycle services!
(The clicking is no more!!)

This is a great local bikeshop that I hightly recommend. On several mornings, I've called into the shop with emergency bike repairs which have been done on the spot. The mechanic has 30 years experience of fixing bikes so I feel like I'm in good hands. He will go above and beyond what needs to be fixed and points out any problems. My housemates also use Crazy Horse for full bike servicing and have been very happy with the results.
R. W.
Gary (the owner) is a gem. He will look after your bike like it's his own, provides excellent advice and will never rip you off. I've seen posts here that complain about his demeanour - if you want to be pampered you're in the wrong place, if you want your bike fixed go to Crazy Horse!
J. H.
Needed spokes replaced on a fairly obscure Shimano RS10 wheel. I'd had no luck elsewhere so wasn't optimistic but they sourced the spokes and fitted promptly. The owner may appear outwardly grumpy but I think that's just the way he is, they did a really professional job, would recommend - many thanks!
C. R.
Great service, the shopkeeper got my wreck of a bike running smoother than I thought it could be. Furthermore, he makes such a hardy effort to keep his services as inexpensive as possible. I would highly recommend this service.
K. L.
Service always prompt and fairly priced (especially compared to the bikeshops in the City). The owner is a bit grumpy, however i managed to charm a smile out of him when I asked him if he was a Neil Young fan (he replied he wasnt). Plus quite frankly i don't service my bike there because i fancy a nice chat.
Update: just completed london to paris and had my bike serviced just before the ride. Not a single mechanical in 500 km, not a single flat. Thanks guys
S. W.
Great local bike shop with professional advice and bike mechanic and servicing! Always received top quality service and advice relevant to what so needed rather than the hard sell, bike runs like a dream after full service and when I came back few days later after a bump, fixed bent handlebars on the spot.
M. B.
These guys are fantastic. I popped in due to a misaligned front derailleur and 1 minute late it was sorted and I was back on my bike. They wouldn't accept anything from me either, not even a £5'er for a pint. Great guys 👌🏼👍🏼

I took my Globe Specialized bike for a full Gold Service a few weeks ago. Items replaced/serviced:- Chain Set + Bottom Bracket ; Four Cables (2xGears , 2xBrakes) ; New Chain; Bottom Bracket Rethread; Headset Bearing; Rear + Front Wheel Bearing. Price was reasonable.
The Bike Mechanic Abdool is one of the finest mechanic in London and clearly an expert on bikes. The owner was polite, friendly, helpful, honest . My bike now runs like new!!.
The service is excellent.
I would definitely recommend anyone without hesitation to get their bikes serviced or to buy a second hand/new bike from the shop. I will give it a rating of 5 out of 5.
M. S.
I took my bike for a long overdue silver service at Crazy Horse Bike Workshop and it was amazing. My bike now runs like a dream machine. The owner was polite, friendly, helpful, honest and clearly an expert on bikes. An awesome independent company!

Popped in there on Saturday 27/2 after trying to unsuccessfully remove a stuck-fast pedal and the chap lossened it off for me without question. Very obliging and well recommended.
P. M.
Independent bike shop with exceptional service. Very honest and will not overcharge. Highly recommended

The Crazy Horse Bike team are great. My partner and I always bring our bikes here and they provide efficient and quality service. It's refreshing to have honest service and we are lucky to have them in our neighbourhood.
D. S.
Convenient opening hours, great technical service and timely in completion. Rebuilt my commuter bike with a new groupset and although not the cheapest, they did a very good job. Would recommend.
S. R.
I took my ten year old Genesis in for a service yesterday, and it was turned around within 24 hours. Gary was polite, helpful, and the bike feels like new - worth every penny and highly recommended!
S. W.
4/5 It's a great shop, it would get 5/5 but the disappointment is the service on the front desk, the old man is so monotone and uninviting. I have been in there loads of times and conversation alway starts from the very start as opposed to continuing from my last visit. His Mother helps out in the evening and Sh'e lovely. But onto what matters the servicing guy Mani i think? is amazing! i have taken 3 bikes to him, a Boardman hybrid comp, my scott and a fixie and they come out feeling like new.
I followed the reviews on here and took my bike down to the Cycle workshop. A great interactive experience but, i was advised i needed a new wheel at quite a high cost. I brought it down to crazy horse and Mani sorted it out for £15!
Cheers

I had my bike serviced here last week - donno what you're all talking about with the owner being grumpy?! Infinitely less so than the mardy faces you encounter as you batter your way into your average Ev*ns, hang about like a total numpty whilst they studiously ignore you, then get told that you probably just need to change the brake pads that you changed last week. In contrast I strolled into Crazy Horse, laid bare my ignorance and pleaded for help. Ish. Whatever, the minor issues were sorted on the spot (sheepish face) and a service booked there and then. In less than two days my bike was running better than it did fresh from the box, nothing was "fixed" that didn't actually require fixing, and I have firm plans to head back there for bits and bobs that I've been putting off putting on for ages because I hate going into mardy-faced, Argos-for-bikes shops which seem to be staffed mainly by people who look at you like they've never seen a bike or indeed a human being before. Marvellous.

Something went wrong with my chain when I was cycling home and I took my bike to Crazy Horse and the owner fixed it immediately and reattached my mudguard. And as it took him only two minutes he didn't charge me. I will definitely be coming here in the future in any bike-related crisis.
S. S.
As everyone above seems to have mentioned- the owner does seem unhelpful, unfriendly and somewhat rude. I have taken my bike there twice as its the nearest to where I live. I feel as if he is over priced too and a bit mean (charges for menial quick things (changing a screw)
A. T.
In terms of knowledge, this place is second to none. They know how to fix a bike and have been happy to give advice in the past for free (don't try this during a busy period obviously). I found the staff friendly and kind, that goes for the owner too! It isn't the cheapest though...
S. C.
Excellent and swift support from team Crazy Horse to swap out some pedals on my road bike. Much appreciated. Will be back to seek support for a service soon.
P. S.
Really like Crazy Horse Bicycle shop, the owner is great & really knows his stuff. He has helped me on a number of occasions with minor repairs for no charge. I'm really grateful and highly recommend him & the shop.

Top people :) sorted me a new sealed bearing bottom bracket late Saturday (15th august 2015 at 5pm) and gave me excellent advice on fitting the new sealed unit....thanks for saving my weekend to enjoy my bike...highly recommend
A. G.
A great local bike shop. Good honest advice and always a pleasure to pop in for a chat. Very pleased the Crazy Horse has stabled at the end of my road.
J. J.
The gentleman who runs the store always provides excellent advice and has on more that one occasion recommended alternative more cost effective solutions when I have gone in to buy parts/enquired about repairs. Would highly recommend and a great local store for the Balham/Tooting area.
R. E.
Very nice man . Sold me handle bars for my performance e scooter!
Even let me use his tools to fit the handle bars😀

Took two bikes in to be serviced and Gary turned them round quickly and efficiently. Really pleased with the professional service and I would highly recommend!

Broken chain on way to work, in a pickle. Fitted in and received honest and professional help, and back on the road in no time.
Wished I lived closer that I could use as my local bike shop.
J. D. L. S.
Always honest, and a quality bike mechanic whenever I've needed the gears serviced. Thanks Gary!
D.
I needed my football inflated and knocked on the door I asked if he had the time it was not problem. I had it back in seconds when I purchased a bike I’ll purchase it from them
O. M.
Helped do a quick fix on my bike for no charge. Excellent service every time I've had repairs
I. R.
Excellent service, the mechanics really know what they are doing and offer quick and efficient servicing and repairs at a decent (if a bit high) price. Will definitely come back!
M. R.
Only used them once to straighten a wheel. They did it promptly, at a decent price and called me the next day to say it was ready. Seemed like nice people. Will use again.
N. D. L.
Ive looked for part in numerous other shops in South East London for two days, posh, locals you name it. Walked in his shop and there it was.
Thanks Gary you saved my weekend. Fits lovely😀
A. L.
Not cheap. But very good work at a fair price IMO. Best when full service needed.
