Having been frustrated spending a lot of money getting my bike serviced in other shops and not getting the issue resolved, the guys at Elswood were fantastic. with some investigating they got to the bottom of the issue and resolved it. I took my new second hand bike in to the shop after being fitted in within a couple of days. The service on my internal gear hub was very quick and my bike was back with me within hours. The price was extremely reasonable and the advice that was freely given afterwards on how to maintain my new bike was welcomed. The best experience that I had in my life in a bike shop. Martin was my mechanic, I can't be grateful enough that I got him fixing my bike. I can actually say that he saved my life. Went in with a new rear and front wheel ( ordered from the manufacturer). The front one was OK but the rear one I got it delivered used and with the bearings missing. Thank you very much for your passion and for your hard work, you guys are savings lives.

Easy to book service via their online service and they usually have available time slots within a few days. Invoice can be paid online on the same day as collection with clear details as to what was done. Overall a good experience so far, however last chain fitting was not fit for purpose for my bike. The chain has been stretched to its limits within 2 weeks, and slipping already. Have a backup one on standby as I'm afraid it won't last January.

Booked a BB replacement. However, i got a call from the shop saying that the BB was like new and didn't need a replacement. instead they run a quick assessment and proposed a maintenance for the brakes ( which I say yes). I didn't realise what the problem was until I picked up the bike ( I thought, another scammer shop but.... wait ….boom) It was clear the profound change in the smoothness and braking response, they know their craft. It is now my go to shop. N.B. I would recommend a better personal (present, physical) customer service.

Have just finshed a short test ride after a service at Elswood. I thought the bike was running well before but there is now a recogisable improvement in gear shifting and general performance. Further, they warned me of a pending problem with the chainwheeels that I had not noticed and advised of a defect in one wheel that will require the immediate attention of the supplier. In summary, good servicing and excellent advice/customer care.

A true community shop. Every time I've been in (pre-pandemic) they've always pointed me towards what they believed to be the best product for the purpose, and will never try to rip you off. Recently during a bike build, some small pinch bolts were lost in transit on a set of expensive brakes. Three other shops said that Shimano did not sell them separate to the brakes, and I couldn't find anyone selling them online. Just when I was going to cave in and buy new brakes, I called Elswood cycles, and they said that the other shops were too lazy to order the parts I needed, and then Elswood proceeded to order the bolts *specially* for me, arriving 18 hours later, when there is a global shortage of bike parts. They also only charged me around 3 pounds, when the brakes themselves cost well over a hundred second hand, so they saved me between £80 and £300. Their social distancing measures are also second to none. The card reader shown to you through the window, and since contactless cards means you only need to put your card onto the window, you pay on the other side of a screen to the shop assistant, and then they deliver whatever you've bought in the best way possible, and for me, that meant a tray through the letter box. Truly incredible service during this time, and extremely helpful when things were looking dire for me. Their bike services also make a bike feel almost brand new, with the labour and parts very well priced. Love having this store on my doorstep!

4pm in the afternoon My pedal lever broke mid-ride making my bike unrideable and was quite far from home. I googled my closest cycle shop and Elswood was luckily 5 mins away. I didn’t expect that my bike would get done on the spot seeing as most other cycle shops are by appointment only and are busy due to covid. The staff told me what was wrong and and that they hard the parts to fix it there and then and after an hour it was ready( considering they close at 6pm). They didn’t charge me labour and was on my way shortly after. Would highly recommend!

Martin talked me down from wanting to have the more costly service as the one down would suit me better and he fitted her out good as new. Bob and Martin have been servicing my bikes since 2007 (previously when they were at Holdsworth Cycles and Bob had a dodgy ponytail...) and it's brilliant to see them back on the Lower Richmond Road with their own business. First service at Elswood - wanted a local independent cycle repair service after the closure of Putney Cycles. Fantastic "service" in all senses - friendly, professional. Was advised that I only needed a basic rather than a comprehensive service so ended up being great value for money. Will definitely be a regular customer.

Outstanding. These guys do the full service. Service is their game because, apart from a few small items for sale, that is all they do - servicing bikes. Their customer service is also excellent - friendly and personable. I came to them from a recommendation from someone who does high-end cycling events as he was so impressed at how they worked on pro-rider bikes (i.e. Geraint Thomas and Luke Rowe). They also know how to service bikes that almost qualify to be ancient - just like the best bike shops that I have been to from Belgium to Australia, they know their stuff. Lastly, they run their business on what is now becoming old-school... good, friendly, honest, customer-focused service without any jacked-up hype or pretensions.

Now I've found Elswood I will never go anywhere else. I don't know much about the mechanics of my road bike but I have always felt well looked-after by these guys; people who know about, care for and love bikes and who seem to have the best interest of me, my bike and my wallet at heart. I have dropped in variously for simple reassurance, a quick fix, a service (of which you can select the type you need with all prices on the website) as well as to test various new rims. The latter were lent to me for some long rides and I am now going to have wheels built - something I would have felt beyond my cycling capabilities not long ago - but I have been convinced by their non-biased, honest advice and the desire to help me improve my bike without breaking the bank. I fall into the category of older, relatively new but keen, female rider - an easy category to bamboozle or talk down to but this, I can assure you, has never been the case. Try them out!

This was my first visit to Elswood Cycleworks as I didn’t know they existed until Putney Cycles closed down. I spoke to them by phone about checking out my Alfine 8 hub with Di2 shifters and I was immediately impressed by their knowledge. I then had a minor crash that bent my front wheel before I had been in to see them so had another call to explain. When I finally brought the bike in (after missing my slot twice due to work) they were very accommodating given how busy they were and we decided I needed a new wheel in addition to the hub check / tune plus a basic service whilst they were at it. I was very impressed with the staff again when I came in with my bike and looking around the shop I felt confident my bike was in good hands. This is a proper independent Local Bike Shop and I am very happy i now have somewhere I can trust to look after my bikes after moving from North Finchley to Putney 8 years ago!! They did a very good job and my bike feels like new. Cheers!

Ended up at Elswood Cycleworks after experiencing a failure with a tubeless tyre for the first time. Was talked through the options by the super helpful mechanic, work completed and then back on the road in no time. Was misquoted the price for the tyre but the shop kindly offered to take off the labour costs so it came to the same total as originally quoted.

this is the best place so far to repair your bike in South West London!! I own several pushbikes and use them for commuting in London everyday. When something goes wrong- the bill for repairing can be very daunting! I've searched to repair my tri-cross specialized in few shops around Chiswick/ Putney/ Kew/ East Sheen/Richmond area and all wanted to charge me extra for service or repairs that my bike didn't need!! This place offers no nonsense approach. All they do is a bike repairs! for my break repairs- they've charged me £5 for labour plus the fee for the parts. They managed to fix my bike same day! Totally brilliant! Very friendly business in Lower Richmond Road!! will be back for my full bike service- which includes- taking the bike apart/ cleaning and rebuilding! That's the service!

My son had been quoted over £250 at another workshop for 'essential' maintenance, including new headset, cables, chain, cassette, bottom bracket and front wheel; here they changed the bottom bracket bearings, serviced and adjusted the headset and front bearings, lubricated everything and advised that the chain and cassette would need changing soon but would see him through the winter; all for £44. Friendly, knowledgeable and honest, can't rate them highly enough.
