Reviews of South London Cycles

Bought a new bike recently and needed several bits and bobs to get me set up. Found this bike shop on Google and thought I’d check it out as it looked like a nice little local business (cba with these new hipster bike shops, they do my head in). The young lad and person who I presumed was the manager gave me great advice and fitted what I’d bought for my bike there and then, without me asking. Really friendly and approachable; very courteous even when answering my novice-level questions! Need some more stuff so will definitely be going back. Highly recommend!

We have used South London Cycles numerous times now, they are super friendly, and will go to great lengths to help get you up and cycling again. They reasonably priced, highly skilled. We wouldn't take our bikes anywhere else now. "love these guys" .

My two boys (age 5 and 6) use their bikes daily, but they needed a brakes and gears service. I was able to book a same day service a few days in advance. South London Cycles took the bikes at 10am, and had them both serviced by 3pm the same day. Amazing customer service - and they didn't charge an extra penny for the same day service.
Thank you South London Cycles - I've been coming to you since the 70s when you were Youngs Cycles, then the Bike Shop, then Pedal It. You are as good now as you have been in the past.

Professional bike shop with helpful and nice staff. Fixed my bike within 24 hours.
Will use them again.

This shop is great example of why you should shop at your local bike shop. All the guys are helpful, kind, honest and give overall great service. Obviously extremely busy during these extraordinary times but still brilliant at looking after people.

I live nearby and I took my bike for full service, very happy with the result. Also the other day my bike's chain got twisted with one of the pedals, three loops, it looked something impossible to happen. And I just took it to the shop before they closed and very quickly they fix it!!
Thank you guys, you rock it!! \m/ \m/

They took care of my problem in a timely fashion, contacted me when it was ready, and came in under the quoted price. Great bunch of people to deal with! I'll be visiting them again. They also have a locksmith service who had blanks for my ebike battery lock, so if you need one cutting, take a trip to visit them.
N.
Amazingly friendly, generous, and very capable workers in this shop. The owner is one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of knowing and always goes way out of his way to help me. Regarding the locksmithing side, he's by far one of the most comprehensive shops I've known with machines that do pretty much everything.
D. G.
Very helpful experienced staff. Covid safe with government restrictions in place. Happy to help and was very professional when servicing my children's bicycles. Explained everything and it was very cost effective. Great shop.

I almost never leave Google reviews, but the guys at this shop were so kind and helpful today that I couldn't resist! They got me suited up with a second hand bike, locks and helmet within my budget and answered all my questions (there were a lot as I am new to cycling in London). I now feel more confident hitting the pavement here thanks to the friendly tips and help from the employees at south london cycles. Thanks, lads! Would 100% recommend this shop!!

My son rides and races BMX on National tracks and these guys keep his bike it great form, at reasonable prices. They are committed and clearly love their trade and go beyond to please their customers. Thanks guys.

Just collected bike from South London Cycles. Bike is used to commute in and out of London to work and have had it since 2011. Have taken it to many different shops and workshops since I've had it and always come away slightly disappointed/angry with the service (wont name and shame here) due to shoddy work and being ripped off/over charged. This led me to start trying to maintain my bike myself however i bit off more than i could chew so took the bike in to the team at SLC. The team were happy to do the work i needed doing and also pointed out that both wheels needed replacing which i was sceptical about due to previous experience with others. Whilst reluctant i agreed to the work and asked them to be replaced. Despite taking two weeks to do the work (due to COVID backlog with suppliers and not the SLC team) i couldn't be more happy with the bike. Service has fixed a multitude of issues and having just completed a 25km circuit the bike feels like new! Thank you all at SLC and i will certainly be getting services and any maintenance checks with you in the future. Great to support a local independent shop and delighted that I've finally found a cycle shop that i can trust. Great work all! Cheers Joe

This is the first review I've ever done I've Been a customer at this shop for a very long time from when Bob & Tim were running the shop. I've seen the shop go through some really tough times and go from strength to strength but, I can honestly say I was amazed when I went into the shop a couple of weeks ago and saw how well the shop looked and just the atmosphere was great kids fixing their bikes outside the shop just like the old days from when it used to be Young I spoke with Dan the owner who I've known for a little while and he was saying the shop is going really well.
I just want to say a massive thank you to Dan and all the staff and how well they have done

Fantastic service, very knowledgeable team who are clearly passionate about bicycles. A professional, friendly, honest and excellent value service. This is a fantastic local bike shop, highly recommend it! Thank you for looking after my bike guys!

SO proud to call them my local bike store. Absolute professionals. Went in because I bent a spoke in my wheel and the manager fixed it whilst talking to a customer and then told me not to worry when i ask for the bill. I did however contributed towards the tip box. Kudos to the team
A. R.
Brilliant shop, went in with a bike in need of a bit of TLC (due to poor ownership!) and rather than charge me as much as possible the shop staff looked at it for 5 minutes, sorted a few small bits out and were willing to not charge me a penny! I insisted they take some cash. It's a great friendly, knowledgeable shop that we are lucky to have in our area.

I'd had a terrible day.
60km into a ride my crank arm came off and I thought I had bent my rear derailleur scrambling to fit it back on.
Wound up here 30 minutes before closing. The guy overseeing repairs is a W I Z A R D.
He fitted a shiny new crank arm and measured the alignment of my rear derailleur, reset and refitted it, all whilst managing other customers waiting in the queue.
All this without a bike stand. I was in awe.
These guys are a vital lifeline during lockdown. Can't thank them enough, everywhere else quoted 1-2 months over the phone whereas these guys had it sorted in ten minutes.
Great price too. I'll be coming here for servicing once things go back to normal
H. A.
A fantastic service at bike shop!!! We regularly go here with our girls(over a number of years), and staff always willing to sort out issues with their bikes. Dan is always helpful and willing to go beyond a great service. Honest and willing to offer advice. Thank you
S. K.
They seem to really know their stuff when it comes to bikes. They did a great job on my bike which hadn't been serviced in a while. It's running better than I've had it running in a good while. They also resolved a tiny issue of fitting brake pads I hadn't asked for very quickly. I found the experience of being served by children a little unusual, but the main thing I'm interested in is my bike being serviced well and they certainly did that.
Edit - I'd initially given 4 stars for the random customer experience. But after riding my bike a bit more, they've done such a good job I can only give 5 stars. I'll be going back here.
T.
Great customer service. Helped a lot with choosing appropriate items for my bicycle and then installing them to my bike. Also recommend what I could get in future to make it last longer. The shop don't have much items but if you need something they will have it for you the next day.
T. H.
I've used these guys a few times now. They are friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Whilst I was there, I saw a number of customers from hard core enthusiasts to people with very cheap bikes snd they spent time with each of them giving good advice, and in some cases explaining jow the customer could service the component themselves if they didn't want to wait. Absolutely no pushy sales techniques. I felt very happy to leave my bike there.
This is an ideal local bike shop, and their opening hours are excellent. I've had a couple of emergency Sunday purchases also
Highly recommended. (still)

Brilliant shop! I had my bike fully stripped down and serviced by the mechanic Jay. He offered to do it after hours and took me through step by step to show me how to do everything so I could do it better at home. Time and money very well spent. Can't recommend enough. These guys clearly care about bikes and helping people get the most out of them.
C. O.
I have been a customer of this bike shop for the past 2 years, fantastic service, these guys certainly go the extra mile. Small wonder they have such excellent reviews, well.... there is always the one clown who will make up a story in an attempt to try to tarnish someones reputation.
I have now moved out of area but I am more than happy to go out of my way and remain loyal to Pedal_it, well worth making that extra effort.
Thanks guys for all your help and advice, well done!

Dropped by unscheduled one day after work as my breaks were obviously and obstructively misaligned. The store was very welcoming not overtly intimidating. They realigned my brakes on the spot and gave the rest of the bike a complimentary once over - as well as some tips on maintaining the bike. I will certainly be using this store for future bike repairs and maintenance! !
O. y.
I loved it! Wonderful service.
I work in city and its not easy to come to workshop within their opening times. They were so nice and asked me what is the problem despite the fact that they were closing. So I waited few minutes until they close the door, I hoped to explain the fault and leave my bike to be picked up when its fixed.
To my surprise they fixed the bike in two minutes and did it for free!
Thank you so much, I very much appreciated it.
It was great.

The owner is a hard working diligent businessman. He has fixed many of our bikes quickly and at a great price. One time he fixed a tricky flat tyre for me and blew through 3 tubes to get it right. I offered to pay for them, but he insisted I wouldn’t.
N. P.
I had bought a carbon fibre bike from Gumtree and had an issue with some bearings. On inspection Jay pointed out that there was a crack in the left chain stay. I returned the bike and the seller refused to give me my money back. I had to raise a dispute with PayPal and Jay very kindly furnished me with a report outlining the damage even though there was no benefit for the shop, saving me £720. That's really good service. I've found them v reasonably priced and good quality for all the other work I have had done
D. E.
Great bike shop - just had my very old Raleigh serviced for the first time in 25 years. Excellent service - very fairly priced for everything that was done. They sell 2nd hand bikes too -and if going that route would trust them.
R. K.
Looked on Google, went there with my bike for the first time. Michael was extremely helpful and professional, discussed thoroughly what needed to be done with my bike, didnt charge me at all. Very satisfied and happy customer. Many thanks and much appreciated.
G. &. T. H.
We took my daughter's bike there as brakes were misaligned. They fixed them, calipers, tightened wheel nut and a few other little bits - all on the spot and with no charge. Brilliant friendly service and would highly recommend. It's great to have a shop like this local to us.
M. W.
Took my bike in as the chain slipped off the smallest ring on my front derailleur and got jammed tight. I wheeled it down to Pedal It and the chap was incredibly helpful - had the chain freed in minutes. He also provided me with some very helpful advice to try and avoid it happening again.
They are clearly very knowledgable bike enthusiasts who know exactly what they're doing - I will be back!
E. B.
I can't fault this shop, the guys are so helpful and friendly, they took their time to understand what I needed for my bike in preparation for a long cycle journey. It's a breath of fresh air in this part of SE London where I've found other cycle stores to be both unfriendly and unhelpful.
s. s.
I’m glad I found this place. Took my bike in to be checked over and serviced. Didn’t have an appointment but they got it booked in, fixed up and back to me in just a couple of days. They even cleaned off the millions of cat hairs. Feels like a new bike and it was really reasonably priced too.
O. D.
I took a bike I bought on ebay for an overhaul. I was given good information regarding the bike, which has enclosed gears and a dynamo. The repairs were great value. They have also fitted marathon tough tyres, so Im less likely to get punctures on commute, but offered me a basic bike maintenance "lesson". It is hard to find the shop, or contact them but once there it's a gem. The staff are knowledgeable and skilled.
S. H.
Excellent bike shop and workshop! If you want to buy a bike, or if you want to have your bike serviced, fixed or checked for problems, definitely come here - they can fix any problem no matter how big or how small. Top service and a fantastic shop!

Sending this review to oppose 1 star review from man who left his bike unlocked outside Blackheath station (as I see someone found his bike and returned to my local bike shop). Not even for a second I think that this bike has been stripped and deliberately broken by staff in the shop. In fact very opposite - shop working very close with a Lewisham police to tag bikes (mine has become registered in that shop 3 weeks ago on Saturday ), every stolen bike in the area are reported on-line and posted inside the shop (I did see the notice board myself), every member of staff very vigilant with handling used (second-hand) bikes brought from the streets. The fact that this stolen bike was found and returned back to his owner - is the proof of very good work against bike theft in the area.
Well done team Pedal It!!!
H. C.
I was just on the shop's website after having sent an email asking for their advice on a bike I am thinking of buying. I am genuinely upset to see that the integrity of its staff have been questioned. They are 100% trust worthy and experts in their fields. I have been to far too many bike shops where they try to over sell you things you don't need or lack care and attention this is by far the best bike shop I have come across.
T. M.
So happy to be riding my new bike! Really easy to order and pick up. Went in and got some good advice about which bike would suit my needs, how to order it and then picked up ready to ride within a few days. Friendly and good service.

I don't usually like writing reviews as do not think it paints a true picture and usually prefer word of mouth so people can experience things themselves, but feel I had to do so, especially after seeing the recent feedback from that Kim/Backim or who-ever he is? I do question about where this person is coming from and looking at the current review and have seen and read his deleted review, actually does he need help? Why would somebody leave their bike unlocked and then accuse these guys of stealing parts from it? It makes me cringe that there are people in this world like that, very sad indeed and fingers crossed karma will catchup with him sooner than later.
I have been a customer to this shop over the last 8 years, I have seen a lot of changes, usually for the better.
From what I have experienced they are not always the best stocked, but are keen to help and happy to order anything asked and nothing is too small or too big from them to offer assistance or impartial advice.
Their current staff are probably their best they have had in a long-time, with their individual strengths and knowledge in dealing with what-ever comes through their door.
I would describe them as a friendly and welcoming family run business, trying to work in the community, helping everybody with a bicycle, scooter and skateboard, no matter where they are from or what time of day.
Anybody reading this please make up your own mind about this shop and take no notice of that idiot or other negative reviews, as we all need to help independent businesses like yours.
To the guys in the shop, I hope this helps, also could only give 4 stars as theirs always room for improvement, just keep up with the good work.

Super helpful staff and reasonable prices, had my bike back within a couple of hours for a servicing. Will be going back.

Today I needed a screw to stabilize the rack of my bike. One of the guys followed me outside the shop. He already had a screw in his hand and also a screwdriver. He quickly turned the screw in firmly, pointed out to me that a second screw on the bottom right should also be tightened again, and he asked me if I would have the appropriate tools at home. I said yes and wanted to pay. How much does it cost? He just laughed and replied "nothing".
My impression: competent, friendly, generous. That's my shop for the future!

Just went in with a Halfords bike with a new pedal already bought after I had failed to remove the old one. I felt really bad but had run out of ideas. They swapped the pedals without a wait, checked and greased the other one (I hadn't done properly) then refused any money for the work. What a marvelous experience. Thank you so much. Wonderful people.

These guys are great. They are always helpful, and have come up with surprisingly cheap solutions for my bicycle maintenance issues. Last Sunday, I went down to see if they were open. They weren't, but one of their staff just happened to be cycling by. He surprised me by opening up especially just to sell me an inner tube. As he quite rightly pointed out: you don't get that at Evans.

TOP GUYS!! On New Year's Eve at 11 PM I BROKE my bottom bracket axle! For real, snapped it right off!! I took my bike to these guys on 2nd Jan and it looked like it was curtains, the BB was stuck in the frame (it had been there 17 years). BUT, very carefully and considerately, they got the old BB out (needing my consent that the frame might be permanently damaged in the process) and had me back on the road. This wasn't just the extra mile, it was the extra MARATHON! All for a VERY reasonable price. Thanks guys - SUPER helpful!!!!!

Odd, I was sure I'd posted a review for this place a year or so ago, either way, I suppose time for an update :)
I first used this store about 4 years ago, and my experience was pretty poor, the mechanic came across as pretty surly and unhelpful, leaving me with quite a bit of faffing on a wheel replacement.
However, I believe they have had a change in management since then, and certainly a significant change in staff.
As the 4 star's suggest I'm very pleased.
I've used then mainly for the truing of wheels and have gone in 6 or 7 times over the last 4 years, getting both mine and my other half's wheels trued, and the quality seems reasonable.
Additionally they've offered significant advice on maintenance and common issues relating to my hydrolic disk breaks, on the whole I'm very pleased with them.
As with any non-internet based retailer, you need to be aware of cost, and that you will not be getting the cheapest deal on components, however, I personally feel it is offset by the support and personal service you do get.
T. K.
We hired 4 bikes for the day. The gentlemen at the shop were extremely helpful and very friendly. They threw in a puncture kit, and hats to borrow. Would definately recommend Pedal it for service and value for money.
P. P.
I got really stuck. My kids bikes were locked up and I broke the key in the bike lock. The guy from Pedal It came up within an hour and had the problem sorted within minutes. I am really grateful! We are lucky to have a shop like this in our community.

Thank you for your wonderful service. Having had my Ridgeback Motion stolen earlier in the morning I popped into ‘The Cycle Chop’ after work in search of an affordable ‘Ridgeback’. As I cycle to work etc. I am highly dependant on a cycle.
They were waiting for the launch of the new’ Ridgeback range’ so there were none in stock. It was suggested I try a similar bike – a ‘Claud Butler’. I was told it would be fine for me to take it for a test run – so off I went. Ten minutes later I had returned and was purchasing it!
As I would require attachments I was anxious about how long I would have to wait and expected to have to return the next day however they offered to do the work there and than –at 5.30pm! So new pedals, toe clips, a rear mud guard and front and back lights were added. Twenty minutes later I was on the road again.
The team at The Cycle Shop were friendly and extremely helpful and willing to go out of their way to help me. I was instructed to return the bike for a service in 3-4 weeks time. Finally the price of the new bike was extremely reasonable.
Thank you !

I have been a customer of this bike shop since I was a kid, and never left a review before, shame on me; the bike shop was ok back then however the current manager and staff and the service they provide is nothing less than excellence pure, and I am not exaggerating either. High time I got off my backside and left a review to say so.
Re review by Bashkim Krasniqi below, please folks do not stress, as it is plain for all to see that Bashkrim is not very well at all; in fact I had the dubious pleasure of witnessing this sad individual phoning the bike shop threatening to defecate onto their shop floor, smashing in the windows; and this is surely now a matter for police intervention.
Best wishes to all staff at pedal_it and all my fellow cyclists out there, stay safe everyone.
W. S.
Really good guys. Jay in particular is a TOP RATE mechanic, I trust him implicitly with my precious and expensive road bikes. Always there with good advice and his work is second to none.
I will defo recommend these guys to other cyclists.
t. w.
I very rarely leave reviews, but have to to counteract the 1 star review from the person (moron) who left their bike unlocked outside a station to only have it returned by these guys! Who knows what happened between the theft and the recovery of the bike.
Always happy with the staff and service here, keep going guys/girls, independent shops all the way!
B. H.
These guys saved me big time when I was rear-ended by a drafter on my commute home. Trued my wheels and inspected my bike for damage also making sure I was ok in the process. Brilliant service and very friendly and knowledgeable. Many thanks guys, saved me a very long walk home carrying my bike.
A. H.
For the record, I am neither a friend nor family member of the staff at Pedal It. Pedal It are a polite, reliable company who get the job done. I use them regularly for big and small jobs and can thoroughly recommend them. I think we're fortunate to have an independent business that provides this service locally.
N. P.
I just want to say a MASSIVE thank you to the Pedal It team! Not only did they give my husband and me great service, but they were also extremely helpful -especially considering that I am new to cycling in London.
I would definitely recommend these guys!
i.
Excellent service when rear derailleur cable snapped. Speedy & good repair - even pointed me to a coffee shop to wait in whilst it was fixed. Good value too
P. K.
Slight mishap returning from a touring weekend when my heavily loaded bike toppled in a bike rack twisting the front wheel out of true alignment. Whizz down to Pedal It the next day where the guys took less than 10 minutes to tune it back to alignment. That's par for the course at Pedal It who are friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about bikes. Thanks guys.
e. s.
Fantastic service! Extremely efficient and friendly staff, every time I needed to fix something on my bike or for my family, I was pleased with the results and price. I highly recommend it.
T. U.
Visited three three times on the commute. Two to fix a puncture, which they let me do it in the shop and lent me a pump and today they fixed my gears and chain. They are professional and friendly and very accommodating.

On a trip to the UK recenty I had some probklems with my Specialized Roubaix. While Bike Shop in Lewisham is not an authorised dealer they when out of their way to help me, even lending me a rear to use when my Roval had a cracked rim. Very friendly and knowledgable staff and the epitome of the LBS (Local Bike Shop). I would not hesitate to use them again and would recommend them to cyclists in the area.
P. M.
Unbelievable service at South London Cycles! We were in a bit of sticky situation and are no longer thanks to the staff’s competence and expert bike knowledge! I will be returning - bike problems or not!
D. S.
I previously gave this shop a negative review after a series of bad experiences at the shop. However, since then, I have changed my mind. The man I had a problem with previously has now left and the owner does a great job and is able to advise on anything you'll need. The repairs are quick and it's decent value for an independent.
J. B.
The man in the shop really helped me out with fixing my bike on my way home when I had a blowout and needed a new tyre.
Very honest and brilliant service
I have also used the bike hire which was also very reasonable
M. H.
Extremely friendly and helpful. I called in with a minor emergency on route to Brighton. The team went out of their to help and get me on my way. I will definitely use them again in the future. Great service. Keep up the good work!
D. H.
Since it is summer,I decided to purchase a bike. I had a single-speed bike few years ago and would like to try new bikes. I started to look around Lewisham for bike shop and shortlisted two bike shop that were close to my place, one is D2 Leisure and the other one is The Bike SHop. Both shop have the bike that I wanted and D2 is much closer to my place. HOwever, The Bike SHop staff is more friendlier, accommodating and willing to give you tips on what suits you which I didnt experienced in D2! I ended buying Raleigh Hybrid, w/c I find good enough for me, in TheBikeSHop! Plus a discount on top of their good accommodation, what else would you want! :-)

The guys here are always super helpful & deserve every success - recently helped my husband switch his wheels over with minimum fuss and wait - great to have a local independent cycle shop without having to get ripped off by the 'chains'!!
J. V.
Great and friendly service. I had a seized seat post that I couldn't budge but these guys saw me straight away and sorted it easily. I won't shop anywhere else now.
S. R.
I popped by to get help with my chain which I couldn't get back on and they graciously helped me at no cost. As an independent local shop, they accept the Lewisham Local card, an added plus for local customers. Thank you Pedal It!

Awesome bike shop that can do anything - from replacing the wheel of my Pashley to adding a rack to the back of my vintage CNC racer. Highly recommended. Support local!!

What a great shop fully stocked and knowledgeable staff I spoke with the owner for about an hour about my bike one of the nicest guys you could meet and also one of the biggest guy you could meet about 8 foot tall it’s great to have a shop like this in the Community
K. H.
Turned up 2 and a half hours after close time, they were still hard at work and still happy enough to help me with a puncture and were polite in doing so (not the 1st time they've helped me after hours but this was a new record) . A nice guy called Danny was the person who assisted me. 👌👍

Really nice group of people, really knowledgeable, happy to order stuff for you, who take care to make sure you leave happy. Great prices too. They also give loads of opportunity to local young kids.

Exceptionally well mannered and knowledgeable staff and management in a well equipped, very organised shop.
Recently further improved by an impressive web-site and shop refurbishment,
It is always a pleasure to support this great independent shop.

I was just reading a review The Kim put on there he left his bike outside busy train station a member of bike shop staff saw him in Lewisham he told him that his bike has been stolen they saw the bike coming to the shop they confiscated it and when I go to give him his bike back to him he takes it in full working order and then comes back Three Days Later saying stuff missing being verbally aggressive in front of children he should have come back 3 days later with a box of chocolates a bit of appreciation
We all should be disheartened by someone like this
