Reviews of Broom House Farm Shop
I. C.
Took my friend Finlay to Broom House for a day out in the summer and we had such a great time. The forest adventure was full of different quizzes and games for us to enjoy and we could have stayed in there all day. Stopped off at the coffee shop before leaving as well, which was full of some great looking cakes and snacks - including some gluten free options for Fin. Overall a superb experience!
R. T.
Fabulous place to eat and entertain the kids. The farm shop could be a little bigger adding more choice but hey well worth a visit.

It was hard work getting them home. Well done to everyone who works there they certainly enjoy there job.Very pleasant and helpful keep up the good work . Been thanked so many times for taking them .we will be back .

WOW! What a place to visit!
Broom House Farm provided us a lovely afternoon filled with delicious food, great sites and an overall wonderful experience.
The breakfast was loaded with flavor and left our stomachs full. The lattes and desserts were also so scrumptious.
The service was so great as everyone was smiling and happy to have us as guests at farmhouse.
Check out the farmhouse shop on your way out to bring some lovely local bits and bobs of broom house farm back to your home.
P. B.
We have been buying our meat there for many years, I love it's organic all bred on their farm plus they sell so much more than meat. The coffee shop is great too
K. W.
Great day out for the kids. Lots to do. Can spend the whole day there
A. P.
Nice farm day out with a great woodland adventure and some educational activities.
If your wanting to go into the forest Adventure its £20 for 2 Adults and 2 Children family ticket or 5.50 each for over 2+. Dogs are welcome and no smoking on the site. Season ticket available also.
The site also has some farm animals a maze small tractors and a park with small wooden fort food available onsite with a farm shop and restaurant.
Food in the restaurant was not overpriced and of a good quality.
Downside if you wanted to bring a picnic I think its a little out of the way from the actual main site which from a business point of view I can see why.
Everyone enjoyed the day and it was worth paying the extra to enter the forest and do the activities which did take best part of the day. The forest has plenty enough to do for the price I think its responsible.
Not forgetting Big Dave that pig be big!
D. J.
Been great so far. Especially appreciative of the dude with the chops who probably plays rugby going to the effort of getting another rib roast out of the back fairly late on a Saturday, and preparing it (quite interesting to watch too, first time I've seen a bone saw used properly) but also just in love with all the meat most (all?) of which comes from here, nom nom nom. And even better you can say hello to your future food as the farm surrounds the shop. Would be nice if you could pick a particular cow for 2024's fine dining but that can come later.
Don't forget to ask for a loyalty card by the way. I think we're on about 5 stars and building them up quickly.
Shame they are not open on Monday but none of the good food around here is, I understand why.
Can't comment on the Forest Adventure as am not the target demographic...

Phenomenal dayout. Myself and my daughter aged 6 visited last week for a picnic and an adventure.
As it's a working farm you could see a lot of their animals including lots of piglets which was lovely, also goats and chickens.
The cafe itself was clean and well priced with a good selection of food. Lots of seats and outdoor benches too (plus wasp traps which were full to burst).
Hay bails you can play on, football goals and a small park.
There is an adventure woodland, it is £5 each and completely worth the money. We spent over 5 hours in the woods their are two zip wires and ropes bridges, big slides and small slides - it is possibly the best outdoor play park in the area for children aged 5 -8? You could go to a secret watch camp and watch animals eat too.
You also had tasks to find fairy doors
and animal footprints.
All very good fun and highly recommend I can't wait to go back!

really great day out for the kids very clean and calm and peaceful kids loved it , plenty of activities and stuff to explore and find so keeping kids busy and happy , i would rate this place 5 stars BUT the picnic area provided was just a small piece of grass tucked in the corner far away from the main cafe felt a bit like errr your eating your own food and a bit taboo but when your out having fun in the country my kids like a nice relaxing picnic. i did spend a small fortune in the amazing shop before we left and i'm still enjoying the meat and jams i bought i would recommend the shop has some great food and staff in the shop were amazing and even made the kids smile.
P. B. (. E. w. P.
We really love this place, their foods are very nice and the activity area is perfect for families with young kids. We haven't had a chance to do the adventure park yet, we really look forward to it. My son loves visiting the shed seeing the piglets and their mammis
J. S.
Lovely, warm, clean and spacious
N. M.
Lovely day out, tasty breakfast, few hours playing in woodland trail & finished off with coffee & cake. Thank you to Lynn and all the other staff for being so helpful & lovely service.
H. K.
Really good trail, only thing is one the slides were so tight my kids got stuck and other people's kids which was scary for them. Definitely recommend going though
P. W.
Just love this place - well stocked farm shop with their own organic meat, range of jams& pickles, locally produced cheeses, locally grown veg & broom house farms free range eggs. The butchery staff are fantastic, very knowledgeable and willing to cut any joint you require & so friendly. Coffee shop has a range of home made cakes & delicious sandwiches, afternoon teas & Sunday lunches. There is also outdoor eating area, picnic area & children's play area. Children can also enjoy the forest adventure trail & there are various walking routes around the farm. A great place for a family day.
D. N.
A shopping experience with glorious Durham scenery and a lovely drive from Harperley hall nurseries where I had been to buy plants and now food
L. S.
Updated 12.08.22 - trip to the cafe for a delightful breakfast, in wonderful surroundings. A little pricey but you get what you pay for.
Original:Great shop, fantastic produce and really well thought out pandemic solutions, with hand wash station prior to entry!
Z. S.
Excellent value for money. The forest adventure had loads to do and kept the family entertained for a good few hours. Fantastic place to visit
N. W.
Every time we buy our meat from a supermarket or another farm shop closer to home, we regret it. Broom House has spoiled us. Fantastic quality beef and lamb, and friendly team. Recommend trying the English breakfast from the cafe.
T. M.
Loved seeing the pigs, and the breakfast was lovely and great value.
J. M.
Had a fantastic family day at Broom house farm today some of us had breakfast which was delicious. The forest trail was brilliant which started with a great talk from the ranger we had children aged 5 6 8 10 and 12 and they all had a great day. Beautiful scones finish the day off, definitely recommend a day here.
P. S.
Great place to lose a few hours with kids in the wood and at the café afterwards. All weather dependent of course.
J. D.
We all really enjoyed our day here the kids had a real adventure! There was loads to do that kept us all entertained for the whole day. There's a really nice cafe for food and drinks and only cost us £20 for the day as a family of 4. Definitely recommend.
L. R.
We visited recently for a coffee, catch up and a play date. It was a fantastic day out for all of us. My toddler adores the chickens and pigs, and loves to explore the grassy play area. It was busy but we were served in minutes and enjoyed a hot coffee and a few naughty treats too! We’ll certainly be making a visit to broom house a regular occurance!
D. H.
Brilliant day out for the kids ( and the big kids too ) plenty for them to do. Set in woodland, there's things to climb on, zip wires, tunnels, slides, bridges and loads of things to find like the hidden animals, fairies & the dragon. There's a nice cafe with out door seating area and a farm shop selling local produce.
Good value for money as you can stay right up till closing time. Make sure you dress accordingly as it can get quite dirty depending on the weather!!!
A. D.
The Broom House Cafe food is delicious and staff go above and beyond!
We had a small birthday party for our six year old combining the Forest Adventure with afternoon tea. We contacted Melissa in the cafe ahead of time to ask if it would be possible to arrange something in advance and she was absolutely wonderful - producing a stunning iced Victoria Sponge and children's sandwiches and drinks for us to enjoy on the afternoon. It was baking of the highest quality and we couldn't have asked for more, enjoying tea with spectacular views outside all tired out from an afternoon adventuring!
b. p.
Good food in the cafe and wonderful to see the chicken and pigs too! The play area is fun but nothing too fancy.
K. K.
Nice selection of products from the far, local producers & some further afield. Mix of foods, candles, toys, etc. Staff very good. Meat prices seem fair as it looks like exceptional quality but some other things like jams & gifts very expensive & difficult to justify.
D. R.
The café is currently running a reduced venue and has some trainee staff members, but the food, and setting are excellent. Slight lack of shade on the tables outside is disappointing but unavoidable due to the potential for high winds. All meat in the farm shop comes from the farm itself, which is certified organic, and all looks irresistible. There are vegan, vegetarian and GF options available. Definitely worth a visit
E. S.
Visited today for a quick bite. Was quite busy but got a table after a few minutes. Food was delicious and very reasonable in price. The staff were very accomodating, extremely friendly and helpful which I think always makes your visit much nicer. Thank you so much. Will definitely be going back.
W. G.
Lovely little place to vist, coffee house food is amazing, trainee staff are pleasent and friendly, farm shop and butchers is really nice, lots of good produce on sale, all fresh. Came away with some cheese, beer, sausages, bacon, cookies, burgers and a nice thick pork chop for just under 30 pounds. Although you can get around with a wheelchair it can be a struggle, disabled parking right next to the coffee house for them visting for the first time. Will definitely go back.
J. C.
Hiked up to Broomhouse Farm from Langley Park for breakfast at the cafe.
Had the full breakfast and what a feast.
Great location easily accessible by car or by walking or cycling there.
Staff are always friendly and helpful. Seating area always tidy and plenty of it. Get there early as it gets busy and there may a bit of a wait for either a seat or your food. But well worth the wait.
g. h.
Food and service was fantastic as usual! Very accommodating.
The kids had loads of fun jumping haystacks.
s. m.
Nice place to visit, shop and cafe on site well worth a visit!
S. M.
Man with dog on entrance of forest is creepy. Everything else was very nice.
M. D.
Forest trail is great. Everyone loved it. The only thing that let's the place down is the picnic area that's not a picnic area more an overflow carpark. Has no seating which in summer is fine but in autumn/winter may want to consider adding a couple tables. Essentially means really no place to eat unless purchasing from the cafe. We did get hot chocolates from the cafe which were lovely and very reasonably priced. Kids said give it a 4 we say 3 really it's 3.5 😁 the dog didn't have an input but seemed to love it. 😁
B. B.
Excellent organic, grass fed meat raised and sold on the farm. As well as many other excellent local foods and a selection of flour. Very friendly and helpful people in the shop, a real treat and pleasant drive
C. B.
Called after are monthly visit to farm shop which sells fantastic products. Pleasant staff in both shop & cafe. Chilly morning welcomed by a lovely wood burning stove.
Love the oat & date slice. Great place.
R.
Great farm shop. Vincent was very knowledgeable about the meats they sold and happy to take the time to help with questions we had. He described in detail the flavours of all the sausages they sold and what was in them, together with great recommendations.
The farm shop itself is wonderful and had all we were looking for after a day of driving round finding the perfect farm shop.
We will definitely be back for more food, and to try the cafe.
B. M.
A wonderful farm with fantastic food and great farm shop. Extremely well organised for current conditions.
D. T.
Ideal place for a day out or just a few hours. Plenty of room for children to run around and play, tea room for food and drink, and a lovely location. Remember to pop into see Big Dave (the pig) and say hello. Added bonus, it's free to go 🐷🐖👍
H. W.
Lovely place to visit in my wheelchair for lunch. Tea and coffee were served to us at the table by a very pleasant waitress. Then tasty toasties were served by an equally friendly lady with crisps and a gorgeous pot of coleslaw in a French dressing. We'll definitely suggest that we come here with our sons, daughters in law and grandchildren as it's a real working farm and the bairns would love it!
D. H.
lovely friendly place great for the kids, social distancing for the coffee shop for food and drinks plenty if seating outside. Great to see Dave the pig, all the piglets, chickens, goats and sheep.
Extended carpark with outside toilet facilities and plenty of sanitation points.
M. O.
Have visited this lovely venue many times and I'm never disappointed. The food is fresh and delicious. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The the service is also very good. Highly recommended 👌
S. L.
Lovely breakfast hearty and very tasty. I got the full breakfast and my wife got the eggs Benedict. Personal preference would allow to have a few more items on the breakfast menu. Staff are very friendly.
A little spring cleaning around the lamp shades can go a long way.
I will defenitly come here again thank you for a lovely breakfast.
g. c.
Lovely farm experience it was great to see the piglets and goats .
Cafe was very busy not much food left and had to wait 20 minutes for a cup of tea but you could see the staff were rushed of there feet...
N. E.
A lovely place where kids can run around and play, including a sandpit, fort and hay bales for running over. The cafe serves breakfast, burgers, toasties and cakes. And more importantly delicious coffee.
Our kids loved the Forest Adventure so much we bought annual passes. It's great to see them enjoying being physical in the outdoors.
S.
A very picturesque place with very nice coffee shop. Lovely food, very reasonably priced. Great farm shop selling only organic farm reared meat, reared on their own farm. Also activities for children which are detailed on their website. Beautiful place.
G. L.
Good food and dog friendly - the cafe is spot on and the shop does amazing meats. Well wortha visit.
M. S.
This was the first time I've been, absolutely loved the playground in the forest is genuinely challenging and hasn't been made so safe that the kids get bored, unlike other places. The cafe was reasonably priced and the staff were lovely especially with the pandemic raging.
H. B.
The farm shop is just 5*. Products are such quality and the staff are super knowledgeable and pleasant.
c. k.
Brilliant adventure through the woods with little tasks on the way
S. E.
Lovely to see the pigs and piglets. We watched them for ages. Ver amusing. Great location and views across to Durham Cathedral and as far as the Cleveland Hills and Roseberry topping about 45 miles away. Easy parking and all on the flat. Great coffee (Latte) but scone was a little dry. Big, fully enclosed play field/slide and swing for kids and the Forest trail looked very interesting and good fun, but we didn't have kids with us. The lady owner was very friendly and went out of her way to speak to visitors and ask if they'd enjoyed their visit and food. Staff working in the coffee shop were early 20s maybe , but very helpful, pleasant and polite which is rare these days. Well done!
Q. D.
Nice farm shop with farm related goods and food. It's nice and small but I didn't have a huge look around as I was busy chasing my three year old away from the toys that got her attention.
There is a café on site that do gorgeous food that is available to buy in the shop. A little out of the way but we'll worth it.
M. R.
Deelish coffee & deelectable food. Mint meat, as you might imagine being a farm. Mutton is gorgeous. Very kid friendly, great place to go for lunch
L. O.
The farm shop was closed yesterday but our visit with our 3 granddaughters was absolutely brilliant, lunch was amazing. We will definitely be back.
H. S.
Amazing food and really friendly staff.
C. J.
Fantastic day at Broom House Farm, the Forest adventure is a hidden gem, spent the day with 9 and 6 year old boys running, climbing, zip lining, hunting, building dens so much so that they didn't want to leave, would fully recommend this for a fun day out
J. B.
Lovely coffee shop with amazing cakes situated right next to a great big open field where children can play. There's a sand-pit, wendy house, hay bale maze, small climbing frame and some swings as well as a fort structure at the far end of the field. Some of the toys could use refreshing but overall the children love the space. There are great views from all around and there are some farmyard animals for the kids to look at as well.
The farm shop sells their own meat and other local produce. For older children (5+), there's a woodland adventure trail accessible on the other end of the big play field. It's also quite fun if you don't mind spending the money to get in.
2.
Went to the cafe for breakfast which was really nice. Had the full breakfast and you can tell they use quality meats
D. A.
Very nice, lovely breakfast.
W. H.
If u fancy something different and dont mind gettin a wee bit dirty then you and your kids will love it.
N. J.
Fantastic service. Switched onions out of my sons sandwich when the owner spotted him picking them out. Made his day thanks
N. S.
Great food, staff and lovely atmosphere. There's so much to choose from on the menu and they also have daily specials. I still haven't been to the forest adventure but I here it's great so I'll have to go sometime.
J. K.
Fantastic place for the family and the Forest Adventure is great value for money. We had a bite to eat today and the food was delicious and good value too!
M. M.
Visited yesterday with children aged between 3 and 5. Perfect for all ages of children in nice weather. £5 each for a Fairy Trail map (find fairies hidden at the base of trees for a small prize). Lots of wooden structures to play on and zip wires through the woods. There is a guy thay works there who runs a Story Time session around a campfire and all the children get marshmallows to toast. He is brilliant with the children and each time we saw him dotted about the woods, he would ask if we needed anything etc. The cafe was really busy and if you go then BUY ONE OF THE CAKES!!! Could do with some more animals as 'farm' is in the title but there was only actually some pigs and sheep in pens. It is better described as Broom House Woods or Forest. Wonderful day out!
R. K.
Great place to come with the kids, plenty of space to run around and some free activity areas. The cafe serves great food. There is also an additional play area that costs around £5 to go in.
S. W.
The farm shop has some excellent produce. We’ve enjoyed local Durham honey, a fabulous part boned leg of lamb, bacon both back and streaky as well as some quality sausage. The butchery is the highlight of the farm shop for me. Pricey compared to say supermarket mass produced meat but you get exactly what you pay for. Great stuff.
R. H.
Fantastic place for kids; fun for adults as well! The cafe is fresh and delicious - try the full English breakfast! - the animals are entertaining, and the farm shop is full of exciting treats.
F. Z.
Such a nice place for kids to play around and see animals. Enjoy the spring weather to have a breakfast in the garden.
J. N.

S. V.
We love this place ! The food from the coffee shop is very nice and extra fresh. There is a big children's playing area and a space for picnic. Good place for all family !
R. L.
Cheerful and helpful as ever, the produce is greasy quality and there are lots of appealing extras in the shop. Plus the joy of watching the swallows dashing about overhead and over the fields.
T. A.
Had a gorgeous bacon butty with a beautiful view today. Lovely staff although being short staffed meant a long wait to get a seat.
G. H.

Lovely cafe great service and food. Great place to take young children. If you want a quite time don't go in school holidays.
M. M.
Really enjoyed the cafe and the poached eggs and wild mushrooms on toast were fantastic. We also enjoyed the farm shop and will definitely be visiting again Mcintosh family from Hartlepool
B. G.
The sausages, pork and steak were excellent quality. On the downside the Victoria Sponge cake from the cafe was very dry.
P. C.
Traditional farm shop with lots of local products. Everything I've tried so far is excellent quality, and I highly recommend the date and oat slice.
G. M.
Food is generally great but the potatoes with the burgers are a bit odd (sorry). Forest adventure is fun. Coffee is always good!
I. B.
