Reviews of Doddington Farm Shop & Cafe
B. T.
We visited the shop after seeing the hall, but couldn’t visited the cafe as it was packed at 2p on August Sunday l.
The farm shop had a large variety of food items for sale, including many interesting gourmet items. Pricing was slightly high but still felt fairly reasonable.
Aisles also felt slightly larger than some other farm shops so east to navigate around and checkout lines went fairly quick.
J. E.
Always friendly, food here has always been great and the mochas are brilliant.
An all round lovely cafe.
And if you have dogs, they are welcome too.
D. W.
OUTSTANDING SERVICE.
We came for Afternoon tea on a Sunday (we did book in advance, and I can see why - they were very busy!) The customer service was fantastic!
We were very well looked after, plenty of tea top ups, and even the offer to switch tea half way through which was kind.
The afternoon tea itself was HUGE! So big we didn't actually finish it all!
Definitely worth the price, and would do it again.
The farm shop has a large range of products and we were pleased with everything we bought to take home - especially the cheese recommended to us from the lady at the counter! So thank you Doddington Hall for letting us continue the good time at home!
J. D.
G and I walked all around then had lunch after which we got a basket and did the shop again. Would have bought more but, we're going away. Always a next time. Wonderful and fabulous staff. Food portions are massive 😋😋😁
E. G.
Great place to visit, great shops, lots to see. Will be visiting again.
M.
Nice large farmshop, plenty on offer, bakery, butchery, wine section, good sized restaurant, where toilets are located just outside. Large free car parking across the road, pleasant and helpful staff.
K. H.
Lovely fresh produce, we stocked up and we will eat our fayre when we return home. Lovely mouth watering good here, warn your bank!
D. S.
It was a lovely farm shop as you walk in there is a lovely range of fruit , vegetables out side nice inside nice selection of goods it's not cheep but nice for a change
M. C.
Great to stop for a quick bite or full meal. Very tempting to wander around the shop and outside the vegetable stalls hold fresh local grown produce..
P. C.
Great shop wide range of products. Great meat counter, cheese counter is good. Wide rang of quality wines and spirits. Vegetables are always fresh.
Just updated this review as looking over other reviews the word 'expensive' has cropped up a few times.
If you do a direct comparison with supermarkets item for item then yes it will seem expensive. However, if you look at the brand's, well know and artisan then actually the shop is right on the money (no pun intended). The meat counter is comparable with my local butcher and the vegetables seem to be the same prices as local greengrocers. The wine and spirits (all up market) are similar in price to an upmarket supermarket.
So is it expensive? That will depend on your outlook and whether, to you, a product is just a product irrespective of providence or quality. Do I shop there regularly, no, but I do go for those hard to find luxuries and quality ingredients when I need them.
So indulge yourself..........

Very nice place excellent food and service staff very helpful and friendly will certainly go again
s.
Lovely selection and we had a very pleasant meal in the cafe :]
J. C.
Beautiful location, the selection of produce and products in the shop itself are absolutely delicious, we picked up quite a few. The pumpkins and squash variety was so lovely and the cafe itself was great. Lovely, welcoming staff, incredible portion sizes and value for money. My partner and I tried the daily special and it was absolutely delicious. We cannot wait to be back
K. H.
All staff are so pleasant. The food is so nice. Then there are lots to explore. Such a relaxed place. X
K. N.
It is lovely to be able to sit down with friends and family again. The food is always excellent and locally sourced. I usually come here with my daughter after we have both finished a night shift. Although the weather could have been better, the outdoor seating is sheltered and protected .
T. G.
Pumpkin Patch, Christmas Baubles & a gorgeous day could not have been better.
C. W.
Lovely place. Farm shop has some excellent goodies. Cafe is very nice. Cream tea spot on. Staff very friendly.
W. T.
Lovely and clean here and in a beautiful setting. Prices are very high but it's a nice treat. The shop sells allsorts of things from Apple Juice to fresh meat, bread and Chutneys. 6 rolls are £3.60, Chutneys and Jams from £4.00.
W. W.
Really lovely staff and great scones and coffee x
M. J.
What a wonderful experience we had yesterday in the cafe. The girl who allocated our table was so lovely and friendly. The food was delicious. All the staff were cool calm & collected.
H.
Lovely products and helpful staff, definately worth a visit!
N.
First one in, ordered my usual. Cup of tea followed by American pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Always delicious. No photo this time 🥺
A. S.
Excellent variety of dried, frozen, farm fresh & deli items. Lots of choice and premium products. Plenty of parking adjacent and also in the gravel car park opposite. Tables outside for dining from their delicious menu too.
J. M.
Brilliant farm shop with gluten free options.
W. &. P.
Such a lovely place to visit. A lovely little farm shop with some great products. A good selection of fruit and fresh veg, some local or UK. A few gf and vegan options with foods, would be nice if they had fresh gf cake for sale in the shop along with the huge selection of normal cakes in the bake section. The interior shop has some great bits and lovely farrow and ball paint. Clothes are lovely, especially if you're looking for some floaty dresses, linens or practical Barbour wear. Nice Cafe with some gf available for mains and cake. The grounds are nice, great parking and the staff in the interior shop are the most friendly.
R. P.
We used to visit here every weekend 7-8 years ago when it was a small cafe.
Now it has expanded and although I miss the personal touch of the small cafe, it has kept its charm.
It’s not waitress service; in that you order in a cafeteria style - queue and pay.
It was very busy but that’s because it is so nice.
I’d imagine you might struggle with a wheelchair but the staff are excellent and genuine and friendly and I feel certain they would bend backwards to help you where necessary.
The food was delicious.
Some vegan options and amazing cakes (also vegan).
Not badly priced considering the standard.
Right now I actually can not think of any thing they need to do to improve.
May start making it a regular thing again!
J. B.
What a fantastic farm shop. Love it. Such a variety of ready home made types of frozen food. Lovely gifts available and different food products. Excellent staff on hand to help.
r. d.
Although the quality of the produce sold and food prepared cannot be denied there does seem to have been somewhat of a decline in the standard of service. For example, whilst being served at the Farm shop, the assistant engaged in a loud conversation with their colleague for the duration of the service making the customer feel ignored as it cut across the field of vision and audition of the customer.
In the cafe the serving staff used the matey address of 'guys' despite the customer being female. Such details detract from the quality of experience for the customer.
J. C.
Staff are always so welcoming & helpful.
M. O.
Fantastic farm shop and cafe. Beautiful food and a beautiful setting. It is how all shops should be. Sadly I cannot afford to do my weekly shop there. However fresh veg is competitively priced. This is always offset however by the delicious deli counter and it's produce. Who doesn't need a gourmet scotch egg?
A.
A really lovely farm shop next to a stunning hall that is well worth a visit. They have a great range of locally sourced food, excellent quality and I love that they stock the Cook frozen range. Perfect
T. M.
Lovely place. Good service in cafe in courtyard setting. Clean and spacious. Great Farm shop. Tasteful home interior and clothing shop. Large cycling shop with anther cafe. Great place to visit.
S.
Love coming here - fresh fruit and veg daily. Home store is fantastic for picking up unique pieces as well as get design ideas. Food at the cafe is delicious, very generous servings - all topped off with great dog walks!
N. T.
Very nice food made as much as possible from their own products. The cakes are hard to resist. Most of the staff is very pleasant.
t. G.
Beautiful setting excellant cream tea.
w.
Lovely place to go for a bite to eat. All fresh and locally produced.
Staff quick and attentive, always busy.....
Worth any wait.
C. B.
Lovely store, very popular. Lits of gluten free foods, which was my reason for visiting. Might use cafe at a later date.
l. h.
Fabulous . Quality. Great staff. Fab cakes. Fab food. Well done!!!!
G. L.
This place really is a gem for anyone who loves fresh local vegetables and fruit. The main 'supermarket' area has a fabulous range of artisan produce which includes cheeses, olives meat and pies, much of which is 'organic'. The Cafe is very bright & clean and caters for most diets. Well worth a visit if you are passing.
J. B.
I had a game coronation sandwich watch out for the shot would go again
J. S. C.
The shop and restaurant are good but the cafe in the bike shop not so great. is poor. Service was OK and generous portions but sadly it is quantity over quality and lacking some freshness.
H. T.
We absolutely love Doddington Farm shop, they sell fantastic produce and beautiful gifts. There is an amazing clothing & gift shop, a bike shop/ cafe and the farm shop restaraunt sells lovely food. We fully intend to try the afternoon tea in 2021. Oooh and the bauble barn at Christmas is a must!
N. B.
Always a great place to visit and they have done some alterations to the shop to make it bigger, so much better.
As ever it was very busy and had all the usual fruit and vegetables fresh outside and plenty to tempt you with in the farm shop.
Book if you are going to the cafe to avoid disappointment.
L. B.
Absolutely amazing food and drink in the cafe. A fantastic selection of fresh meats, fruits and vegetables, bakery items and more in the farm shop. I've been to a few in my time and this is by far the best in terms of quality and choice!
S. P.
Super place to eat, especially outdoors on a fine day. A good selection of hot and cold meals/snacks. Also, a good selection of cakes etc. The shop is well stocked with tasty produce and the deli counter had some tempting goodies to take away.
C. A.
A favourite for good coffee, cakes and full meals which also has an impressive farm shop with fresh veg, fresh meats and preprepared meals. Bread cheeses and cakes for sale too. Efficient and friendly service, what more can one want. (Oh, ample car parking too and other shop units in the grounds selling gifts, cycles, clothing and furniture!!)
M. B.
Nice setting, good place to start out for a walk or cycle along the purpose built track to the Brayford Pool.
Shop items are very expensive especially the fresh vegetables
D. H.
Great cafe with locally sourced food and coffee shop. Other shops such as bike and clothes. Very clean with walks as well as bike trail. Situated in very small rural village. Lovely place, well worth a visit. Free parking.
L. W.
Love it, good selection if fresh food. We had a drink and cake which we really enjoyed. In the court yard there us a nice gift shop and bike shop, well worth a visit:)
L. T.
Didn't really have a look around but what we saw was nice
D. J.
Cakes and scones were lovely. Not enough clotted cream it was very watery. Sandwiches were very sad the fillings were very meager couldn't realy taste what they were i like a good amount of filling in my sandwich. They were also a bit dry. The tea was also very weak.
J. C.
I was a little disappointed with the café at Doddington, being a semi regular visitor to the farm shop I had high hopes that the good quality would be carried throughout.
However, for the four of us there for breakfast it was not a great experience. Poached eggs overcooked and hard, bacon overcooked and tough, and we would put money on the beans being microwaved. For the price charged the serving is too small, two sausages (which were tasty!) would be a good improvement.
D. C.
Expensive. eg fillet steak £48 per kilo, Morrison £26 kilo!
A. W.
Adore this place. They've recently revamped the interior to make it larger & include more stock. Truly fantastic selection of unique & local food & drink. Definitely worth a visit.
s. P.
Trying to go plastic free so went to see what they had available. Seasonal veg, nuts, lentils, balsamic vinegar refills - all no plastic. Glass bottle water refills, laundry detergent etc. They still have alot of products with plastic, meat and branded products etc. But it's a good start.
T. A.
Great farm shop and cafe, not too far from home. Always go for a treat
K. T.
Lovely lunch again. I had my usual jacket and tuna. My friend had the spelt and feta salad. Too much lettuce with the spelt. Mine was perfect as usual. So full , we had a wander round the fashion shop and cards etc. Then had a Pannal cotta with soused raspberries. Too tart , raspberries. Cotta too firm. Shortbread lovely as easy taste of Pannal Cotta. So half OK.
C. D.
Where to start! If you are looking for just about everything for Xmas you have found it. From gifts, excellent butchers to buy all, deli, gifts, bauble barn ,veg boxes and to finish off the shop the cafe although there's always a que
J. I.
Very friendly and nice staff. Very special assortment of a lot thing there. Food and clothes. Very tasty Farrahs nougat!!
A. E.
Went to farm shop, veg was average and meat that was purchased for Sunday lunch was definitely below average.
A. F.
Excellent selection of shops and produce available here. Also worth a visit at Christmas to visit the bauble barn they have. The staff are very friendly and there is plenty of parking
G. H.
Café on the expensive side, but the shop very well stocked. Well worth a visit - such a nice environment with a stately home and gardens on the doorstep too.
A. T.
Lovely cafe but always a queue when you get there and it takes a while for it to die down. Also a little expensive, but I suppose you would expect that with it having a lovely building and grounds to upkeep.
C. M. W.
Had a great time here. It was good that Kath(102) enjoyed the soup. Jennie and I also ate well. The location is quaint and we enjoyed our visit.
R. B.
Just stopped at the cafe for a coffee, coffee ok but service very slow
L. R.
Such lovely food to buy, inc ready meals, fresh fruit and veg, butchers meat, pies from the counter are delicious. Fab food gifts, fresh bread and drinks and locally made jams.
S. W.
Had breakfast here. Bit overpriced and chipped ramekins. Other than that, very nice
N. C.
Very interesting lots of nice food and fresh vegetables and they have a cook shop which is frozen meals for 1 or more people but there butcher's counter is very good and they have a chees counter and a good chocolate counter as well and even a cafe which even thought i have not eaten there the food which i have seen them service looks very good and nice well worth going if just for the fresh produce
