Purchased a 2018 Ford Transit minibus from Strafford for export to Ireland, I dealt with Fraser. I don't own a car, so hired a vehicle from Strafford for a week's family holiday in Scotland. As I booked quite a long time in advance, I got a great price. We had a diesel estate car - over 100,000 miles on the clock, but it ran very well, and very economically on our long drive. Our customer service experience was also positive: on the phone and in person, when picking up and returning the car. I'd definitely use Strafford again.

Great local car hire business. I'd been a longtime Enterprise loyalist until the Brighton branch held a $1000 deposit for several weeks after finding a rice grain sized chip in the windshield upon returning a car. Strafford, on the other hand, doesn't make me feel like I'm borrowing my friend's brand new BMW when I just need a compact for the weekend - makes for a much less stressful experience!

I was put in a nightmare situation as I was moving house and was let down by the removal company. Urgently needed a large van at short notice and on a budget, Strafford delivered on both counts. Was greeted on collection by a lovely receptionist who promptly dealt with the paperwork and walk around of the vehicle. She even offered me a free upgrade as the vehicle I originally booked was returning at a later date. Pleasantly surprised with the quality of the vehicle for the price I had paid. Staff are very helpful and understanding as I found out on calling to extend the hire and on returning the vehicle. Also Roy was only too happy to have a chat about scooters. I needed a large van to help my friend move house as my vehicle was too small for the job, I phoned Strafford Self Drive and was greeted by a friendly and helpful person, who understood my situation and had a vehicle for me to hire that day. I turned up at the depot and was greeted by the receptionist and all the paperwork was done, they showed me around the vehicle, then I was on my way. I returned the vehicle in the evening on the same day. The service for the money that I paid was very good, and the staff are extremely polite and helpful. Hired a car from Stratford’s while visiting Brighton for a short vacation. I was very impressed with the sales advisor on the phone who took the original booking, the staff in the reception and the people who took the car back at the end. We returned the car without cleaning it and we’re not charged any extra which is rare for hire car companies in the UK. The site is easy to find and easy to walk from Brighton station (took us around 10 minutes at a slow pace). The car was a 2017 model so around 6 months old. It was very clean and easy to use. Upgrading to an automatic car was not a problem whatsoever and they had availability to do so that same day. It is unlikely I will return to Brighton however if I did I would 100% return to Strafford for my hire car or van. Thanks once again. Don.

I'm not usually one to write a review but after my first experience hiring a car i have to say these guys are fantastic. i was planning a weekend away with 4 friends to Cardiff, i tried the website initially but decided to call to see what they could offer me on the mileage. the staff member i spoke to gave me a number of options including different cars and different mileage, we agreed on a 63 plate corsa with 500 miles. the price was also very reasonable. a pre authorization deposit was put in place and i was assured this would not be withdrawn from my bank . when i came to collect the car they were pretty busy but dealt with all customers quickly and efficiently, all relevant paper work and checks were done and i was sent on my way, after a thoroughly enjoyable weekend away i returned the car on the following Monday with no problems at all. the staff have a fantastic sense of humour and are all very professional, the prices are reasonable and the terms and conditions are acceptable!

Excellent car and van hire company, with that all important human touch. I got a small van from here, and because of my uncertainty regarding its suitability, the lady in charge (Angel), got a tape measure and insisted we measure it properly. You don't get that kind of kindness in the usual hire companies. The checking-out process was simple, and I was treated with kindness not suspicion. In my opinion, this sets off the whole rental on a good foot. They were actually good value for money, but even if they weren't on a future occasion, I would rather go here than a large chain. Highly recommended.

I was caucious as I had seen a couple of negative reviews, but I found the guys there at Strafford really friendly and most helpful especially as I was a bit green on the driving a van front!!! We had to hire a van to help with our office move - I had never driven a van before the the guys at Strafford self drive - had to show me where all the controls were and how and where to fill up..... they were really friendly and helpful and the van was in good condition so easy to drive. It was the first time in brighton for me, and I needed to rent a van to transport my stuff from my friends home to my new house. Basically I just googled it and i booked through their website, clear, easy and fast! In half an hour i got my van with a full tank and a chocolate mint on the drivers seat. The service was clear and fast, and the van was absolutely perfect. In the end I returned it later than was expected, and they didn’t even charge me for that because it was less than an hour! We hired a self drive minibus from Strafford’s to transport our office to a team building event. They were the only company we could find who offer 17 seater lightweight minibuses which can be driven on a normal car licence... the bus we were supplied with was a 2019 model with sat nav and air conditioning - we couldn’t really ask for any more! Not only was Strafford the best service and initial feeling on the phone, their price was actually slightly less than the competition which we know from experience offer far older models. We will now only consider Strafford self drive for event transport moving forward.

Top team here. I have used Strafford self drive for the third occasion now. The third time was the most memorable when I had family over last week, I needed a comfortable saloon, and they surprised me with a bmw 520D , Automatic, Diesel in white , on the motorway returned approx 50MPG and it was an awesome car to drive and again at an affordable rate. The website of Stafford Self Drive didn't work very well, but I was (very) satisfied with the car rental. Friendly people, easy going, no fussing as with large car rental companies. However, the car could have been cleaned better - found things/waste of earlier costumers in the car. On the other hand, no experience with their damage and insurancy policy.

If you are considering a “man with a van” in the Brighton area then I would highly recommend renting your own van instead. I have used man with a van multiple times however it’s expensive, often late, damage Goods, aren’t strong enough and can often be rude. Recently I have discovered Strafford vans; it’s easy, the best customer service, organised and gives you the extra budget to employ the people you trust personally to load and unload your personal items. The van we hired was £61 for the day, was clean, had air on (as it was hot) and DAB radio. Man with a van quoted £455 leaving me with nearly £400 for trusted friends labour and drinks after. Booked a 9 seater minibus online through Strafford self drive for a boys weekend in Amsterdam. The day before the hire we called in to see if we could upgrade to a 15 seater minibus expecting to be turned down. The person on the phone was so helpful and upgraded us for a very very low price. Upon arrival we were presented with an 18 registration minibus fitted with air conditioning, multiple charging points for our phones, inbuild satnav and overhead storage. Best van hire I have experienced in Brighton. Would not really describe myself as the sort of person who would even leave a review to be honest but this and the 4 previous hires I have taken from Strafford self drive have all been worth sharing so that others my go straight to what I have found from bitter experience to be the only van hire in Brighton worth dealing with. My word of advice is to like I did book online at the strafford van hire website which i found to be cheaper than every other van hire in a 35 mile radius that I could find by about 25% which is a lot of money when you are not a high earner like me. The real icing on the cake for me was when I turned up for my most recent 2 hires I was given the first time a 5 month old van and the other day they gave me a 2 day old van which has a miles per gallon computer on board, I managed to get this Transit van up to 45.3 miles per gallon on my trip to Sheffield to pick up some free furnitore that a relative had given me for nothing. So all in all great from start to finish, well done for such a great service, great van and even greater price. Won`t be going anywhere else if I ever need a van that's for sure !

We hired a motor home to go camping as a family. The motor Home supplied was a 2018 (literally brand new) and from what I saw at their depot they were all 2017 or 2018. The staff In Brighton were helpful in explaining exactly how everything worked on the motor home and ensured that it was ready and clean for my arrival to avoid delays. It came with unlimited miles as standard and it was only a little extra to add 3 drivers and EU insurance cover (lots of other motor home hire companies do not offer EU insurance whatsoever). Following my fantastic experience using Straffords I considered purchasing the exact model I hired (zefiro 675) however after running the sums it is actually more cost effective for me to rent one for the 3 or 4 weeks a year I would use it... after insurance, storage, depreciation, road tax and maintainance hire charges work out to be 1/3 of the cost if that!!! Superb level of service. We have already booked our next trip with Strafford.

I could be classified as a challenging customer. Rented a car for a day at short notice, not ever having rented a car for many years was a little concerned regards excesses and the small print. Paid a small sum of money to reduce the excess to £111, mileage restriction (as this was a short hire) was upped at no extra cost. Car was a good 'runner' (Mondeo Titanium) and made the 400 mile round trip in good time and EXCELLENT comfort; 110,000 miles on the clock showed they had maintained the vehicle well. Couldn't be happier with Stafford, I got a virtually new high spec transit and the service was quick, polite and easy. we hired a beautiful motorhome from straffords while visiting england 2 weeks ago. i have read some reviews on here about people being charged for damage however i thought i would just let everyone know that we are a perfect example of how not to be charged. the motorhome was returned exactly as supplied and straffords were very thankful. i think the problem here is people disrespecting their motorhomes and then being annoyed when they are inevitably charged. this is the customers fault. not the lovely people at straffords. we will be back again to hire for sure. thanks

Lots of help advising my brother-in-law on the best size of van to shift a house hold of stuff from a holiday let. Did it all in one load after a couple of trips to the dump and saved hundreds on an earlier plan to get a removals company to do it. Watch out for height restrictions, if you're thinking of taking things to the dump. For the cost of pint, we were lucky enough to find someone with an estate car to drive a few old mattresses the final 50 metres and under the barrier. Would use again every time. Particularly friendly - thanks!

What a great company, booked a Transit van online a few weeks back to get some bits from a storage as just moved house, needed to pick up a settee and some mirrors so was a bit worried about the size. Anyway when I arrived was given a new type of Transit van think its called a Transit custom? absolutley brilliant van, just like driving a new Mondeo it had aircon (good on the hot day i had to drive on!) fantastic stereo and the fuel economy was second to none. Was so pleased and at a really great price, in fact can`t really work out why I`d previously hired from Choice round the corner as this hire was cheaper and it was a new van which used hardly any fuel. While i`m at it just thought I`d add that last week I needed another van to pick up a large chest of drawers and dump a load of rubbish from the rendering so again booked on line and for the interest i compared the price to choice and it was £7 cheaper, anyway turned up and they gave me a nice silver 14 plate new transporter van which was slightly bigger than the transit i had the time before, great van but preferred the transit van. Would always use strafford now because for me they are local and offer good vans at the best prices as ive really searched around on prices as i dont have a lot of spare cash, keep up the good work straffords and will see you again probably just before christmas as i am planning getting a new bathroom from a shop near london.
