So I rented a 7.5T for a house move. The staff followed up with me 2 days prior as I hadn't filled the email out for information for them. To which I did that day. Doing this information saved me around 10 minutes checking the vehicle out. All information given. The rental was a little dirty inside but it done the job. It was a easy transaction, got my deposit back within two days, the mechanic and ladies at reception where helpful and happy. I'd recommend this company and use again.

Very reasonable price and decent van. Only negative would be not being told until the day that you cannot leave your own vehicle on their premises whilst you hire their van. This means you have to leave your car in the road on a busy main road. Would hire again.

I rented a car from these guys for 3 weeks in August 2022. The booking process was made easy by the fantastic help I received from Zoe. I was expecting an older Peugeot 208 but received a 2021 Clio which was great and averaged nearly 80mpg. I accidentally opened the door onto a post and caused a small chip and tiny dent. I was expecting a major drama when I pointed out the damage when I returned the car at the end of the hire. However this was not the case and I was treated very fairly. Thank you for a great experience from start to finish. I would definitely recommend your company.

Great service and nice to have local rather than colchester. Van checker/Booker excellent. Garage that it's based are helpful. Only lost a star as central locking didnt work (was told) and radio was stuck on essex fm and at set volume, deposit was 2 days after booking, which was fine. Keep it up

I would have scored higher as the service and van was very good, however, there is a bit of a fuel scam going on. I returned the van full to the brim yet was charged for an extra 6 litres of fuel. Robertson's also add £1 a litre on top of retail price. When filling at Asda I filled til the trigger clicked, and then tried to add more as advised by the desk staff. The result was a blowback and a diesel puddle on Asda forecourt. I queried Robertson's and asked how they fill up, and apparently they use a low pressure pump that doesn't foam up the fuel. You and I Joe public don't have access to such facilities, but Robertson's advise waiting a few minutes for the foam to settle, then fill again. Can you imagine doing this with irate customers queueing behind you? I think Robertson's should start filling up at petrol station so they are on the same page as the customers. This is a typical example of modern England whereby customers are constantly having to watch their back for devious business schemes.

First time hiring a minibus, the people were friendly, explained everything to us, so it was an easy process of picking up and dropping off. On their website if you have any queries, you get a quick reply as I found out. Cheaper then I thought it was going to be to hire for a 9 seater. Would hire again.

Fantastic company, I was nervous about hiring a van for the first time. The process was simple and very COVID safe. The van was easy to drive, clean and well maintained. I walked around with a service assistant to agree the knocks and bumps it has. The vans are roomy and if you’re unsure if it is suitable for your needs the customer service staff will assist and advise you. There are 4 locations to bring it back to. Dropping the keys back was simple and by lunchtime the next day I had an email to confirm I was getting my deposit back. I chose not to fill up the tank, they took the amount of fuel I used and didn’t even round it up to the nearest 10p so they are very fair and honest. I would definitely use them again. Can’t recommend these guys enough! Thank you JD Robertson you made my first hire experience a very happy one.

Second time I’m using them. I will explain why 4 stars. You’re asked to sign a piece of paper stating the condition of the van and stuff with scratches and dings in white, receptionist stating to you that the drivers on site will sort any issue you may find when they give you the keys and present the van for you. You would believe that is a common sense when you go back with the van and they check it for them to sign back as well, but no, the receptionist was quite baffled when I asked her to do it. She done it but I saw that she was an uncomfortable position in doing it. I hope she or the big boss will see how uncomfortable is to sign a piece of paper in white that can make the difference in them returning the deposit or not or any claims to be imposed. Second I spoked with them over the phone a week before taking a van from them and they told me to come Saturday at 10:30 and they will give me a van then. Luckily for me I came earlier to be told that is no reservation on my name and that they don’t have a van for me on first instance, they looked on the system and they found one. The receptionist without a mask, told me being quite rude in speech that they never told me to come Saturday and that I will take a van without a reservation and they always do reservation prior to be in agreement with their stock of vans (I was a lier I suppose). Obviously sometimes you are slipping from this rule as I came and didn’t had any reservation. Monday morning I came to hand over the van to find 3 ladies from which only one was wearing a mask, the lady with green lanyard was excepted (although she is putting herself at the biggest risk by having covid unknowingly and spreading it / luckily for me I wear a mask) and another lady who arrived at 7:45 without a mask aswell although on their sign on the door masks are compulsory to be worn. This is why 4 stars only were given. Pro: van was clean, deposit came back in 2 days (full refund), drivers on site were nice and funny. The receptionist who had a mask was nice as well. Given all this aspects I would still recommend them but I think some lessons are to be learned by future van renters and company as well.

Honestly could not reccomend this company enough! Hired a Luton van for my home move and the staff were brilliant, helpful and welcoming. When I returned the van I had an invoice and confirmation of my deposit refund within 2 hours. They give you the heads up about filling to the top with diesel and there is no hidden secrets to try and charge you more like most hire companies do! Would 100% hire from Robertsons again if in need

Love renting Van's from Robersons because stepping into their office is like taking a walk back in time. 70s office decor aside, the vehicles are always good, reliable and lot more up to date than the aforementioned office decor. Staff are always helpful too.

There was a misunderstanding over the booking which proved inconvenient and the van had a semi flat tyre when I took it, plus I got the feeling from the office staff that they'd rather not be there. But that said, they handled the van being slightly late back without making a fuss or charging a penalty.

Excellent vehicle, friendly staff. Was seen reasonably promptly despite a rush of van pick ups and drop offs, loads of room and a newer vehicle and drove well to Manchester and back with nice mod cons. Only thing is they ensure that you have a full tank prepare to have your deposit deducted a few pounds as they top up fuel to the brim on the vehicle when you return. Haven't had that issue with any other rental company but apart from that amazing assistance. Would diffinately think about using again if I need a bigger vehicle than my own.

A bit small with bad car storage while you hire vans. Staff good in the office. But driver valeter a bit useless at being helpful when asked where to parked. I went there with my brother to drive him away after hiring a Luton. He dropped the van off and I was asked again by rude staff who I was and why I was there. And he spoke to the junior valeter like he was a idiot, funny when he couldn't remember what I'd told him two minutes earlier. But good people in the office so all in all not bad.

Massive fleet of everything. The vehicles that have scratches and scrapes they are not super critical of so you don't have to worry about losing your deposit over a scratch that's probably been there for months. Can do towing too which is ace.

I needed a Transit to help my son move from Bristol to London, and my usual company, CC Hire, had all its vans booked out; CC suggested that I try JD Robertson. Over the phone a friendly woman at JDR gave me all the details and told me what paperwork I'd need. There was a ten-minute queue at pick-up on the Saturday: it seemed it was "back to university day" and all 16 of JDR's one-ton Transits were being booked out. The van was 18 months to two years old and clean and tidy. Handover (checking for scratches, etc) took about five minutes. Why four stars? The service generally was very good with excellent customer service (we even changed our mind that morning, and hired the van for two days instead of one). JDR lost a star because its reception was so down at heel, and the fact that its drop-off sites are at three separate locations, with a 5min walk to the return-key box at reception — Magdalen Street isn't the most savoury place late at night.
