The check in process was straight forward and the price paid for the hire car via our Easyjet booking was reasonable. Booked a Fiat 500 which was perfect for what we needed and the vehicle was clean and in good condition. Return process was also straight forward. Would book again.

Overall the experience was positive. Nikolas in particular, at the Edinburgh airport was extremely helpful. He went above and beyond his role. Can’t say the same for the call center: we had a problem with our key and they weren’t able to help. Also, I suggest no extra price if the car is returned not full when there clearly is a pump on the premises

Europcar is quick and efficient, the car was perfect
the issue (so not 5 stars) is related to the lack of transparency when the upgrade has been offered, without explicating that the additional value per day was not the only fee to be paid up to the price already fixed in the web reservation. then I found the surprise in paying more than expected and shown by the employee because I had to add taxes ... my bad in not checking and being faithful in the employee numbers.
Next time I'll use Europcar? probably Yes, but upgrading the car at the desk? probably never more.

Great experience! The guy at the counter was very helpful. The cost was very reasonable for a 10 day rental. They did everything they promised. I'd give 5 stars but my car was pretty dirty. After my awful experience with hertz, a dirty car wasn't a big deal. Very good experience.

Staff at check-in and drop-off was very nice and friendly. Return was quick and seamless. However, I picked the car up early (~60 min) which came at an extra charge and didn't make sense to me since tons of cars seemed to be available. Also I was being charged extra for being a "first-time Europcar customer" (it's not even true...) which absolutely doesn't make sense (.. if anything, shouldn't first time customers earn a bonus?)
While the associate at check-in was so nice to give me a "discount" on the extra charges, I don't think they should have been any extra charges in the first place. Not great!

FINAL UPDATE - The situation was resolved and we were able to continue with our original booking without paying anything extra. I really appreciate all of the help from Europcar.
UPDATE - I am now in contact with someone from Europcar who has been incredibly helpful and seems to have come up with a solution that will work for us. I’m so grateful to have finally reached someone who cares about my situation. Things are still in the works, but I am hoping that my situation will be resolved and we’ll have confirmation that we can still rent the car for the same price soon. I’ll adjust the stars on my review and update this review once everything confirmed.
They want to charge me appx $3000 just to change the name of the main driver. Our main driver had to change his travel plans and can’t meet us until the 3rd. The car needs to be picked up on the 1st and we planned to have our second driver pick it up. Europcar says they can’t make that change without cancelling the entire reservation. So then I asked if we can just keep everything the same but pick up the car on the 3rd instead of the 1st (also said we’d happily pay for the 1st to 3rd still) and I got the same answer. This is clearly just a money grab and such poor customer service. It doesn’t cost them anything to either change the main driver or have us pick up the car two days later (while still paying for all the days!). I’ve never dealt with so inflexible a company. Most companies are more than happy to do what they can to ensure their customers have a good experience.

Although we had to wait quite a long time for a pre booked car, when we did get to the check in desk we had a great experience with Nickolas! Very friendly, efficient, and gave us a fabulous car :-) returning was easy too. Would use again but would factor in a long wait time!

The car and the experience were very good. I just suggest that the staff spend time slowly showing customers how all of the computer stuff and everything else works and to take their time doing this. They just handed me the keys and sent me off to find the car.

The pick up and drop off staff members were very competent and courteous.
However, the 2020 BMW M 1 series car I was provided was very abused by previous rentals. Everything from the worn down wiper blades (terrible in rainy Scotland) to the malfunctioning parking and cruise control sensors made driving an irritation. They did not have any alternate automatic transmission cars so I was stuck with the car they gave me.
That said, the mediocre car did get me safely from Edinburgh to the Outer Hebrides and back so there is that.

Customer service good at pickup though they const try to up sell everything. Car was good and clean and nice to drive around all of Scotland but radio did not work out side of main towns and we realised near end of hire that radio arial was missing. Also on second last day car stated that it needed to be serviced.
After returning the car were the problems. With a 5.30am return the office was closed and no one was at the drop off point despite it there being multiple cars being returned. As soon as we had put the keys in the return box we realised that we had left a phone in the car. Fair enough our mistake.
But if some one was there they could have opened the car for us to get it. Upon landing at our destination approx 3 hours later we called the phone and it was answered by a man who said yes he had found the phone and would hand it into the office and we should call them. We called a few hours later and they stated no phone had been found, we also sent an email and again they stated no phone had been found.
After me contacting them several times over 1 and a half weeks they finally found the phone and said they would what could be done to send it back.
I have now spent nearly 2 months org a courier since Europcar state that they do return items. I told them I was happy to have the return charges added to my credit card that you use as a security for the rental. They said that this could not be done but when I asked why they did not answer. Also why did they not contact us in any way upon finding the phone via the contact phone number we gave upon hiring the car or via email.
My complaint really is that a large hirecar company must have a system for returning found property and they only found the phone after a week and a half despite a staff member having answered the phone. Also messages about the radio not working were never answered.

A good place for car rental, all is close by. The Europcar agent tried to sell an upgrade - and forgot my included second driver. Apart from that all was good, uncomplicated, particularly the car and the car return.

Rental centre and flight arrival need to be synchronised, had to spend the night at an airport motel as the rental centre closed before flight arrived and no one was willing to stay on late. As a result rental actually cost about £100 more than it should have when considering hotel and taxi fares.

This is the best Europcar experience I've had, which isn't saying much. Be prepared to read every word they ask you to sign and to argue for basic things like credit card damage coverage.

The woman who helped us at pick up was so helpful and personable. We got a great car - an automatic transmission Mercedes. We are from the US and driving on the “wrong” side of the road in Scotland with manual transmission would have been a challenge. The roads in Scotland are so narrow and winding. This was my second time renting a car with Europcar at Edinburgh Airport Car Rental Centre. Both times my experience with Europcar was amazing. The staff was very friendly, helpful and seemed very invested in trying to put together the best deal for me. I booked a hire car online and when I went to collect it I was told they didn't have that size of car available, so they upgraded me to something else at no cost. The car came with a full tank of petrol, so no worries about trying to get to the nearest petrol station like some hire cars I've had in the past. Handing the car back at the end of the rental period was exceptionally easy and very quick and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.

Got a great car (Volvo V90) in good condition for a fair price! Service by Mrs. Afrouz was great and drop off was fast and efficient. Only pick up needed around 40 min of waiting and should be more efficient.

Had to wait 30 min to pick up the car. Then got told the horror stories to try to get us to purchase additional insurance. Why this is not included in the hire package, I'll never know. I was also given the wrong size car, smaller from that that I booked. On a positive note, the new employee who dealt with me was polite, curious and rectified the wrong car issue instantly. Perhaps the local management at EUROPCAR need to get a grip on these issues. Returning of the car was straightforward and easy.

I know it is not 100% guaranteed, but the most recent time I went they also said there was nothing available in the band of car I requested, so had to pay extra on the day for a higher tier car! PS. Europcar, Edinburgh Airport branch, rented us a car in July 2016 for 22 days. The condition of the car was excellent, the car was cost efficient using minimal gas. It had navigation and an automatic transmission. Picking up the car was an efficient experience, with one hitch. The agent failed to adequately explain certain costs. My bill was larger than expected. When I disputed the charge, the company carefully reviewed the facts and settled in my favor. I cant express how surprised and pleased I am with this company! The ethical treatment that I received was a "breath of fresh air" in a climate where consumer satisfaction is often disregarded. Dropping off the car was a breeze, the receiving agent was very professional. I would highly recommend Europcar and will use their services in the future.

The organisation to picking up and returning the car was excellent.
Walking from the airport to the car rental hall, we were met by a member of staff who assisted and explained how we picked up the car, simply taking a number and waiting for our turn.
The member of staff at the desk very quickly processed all the paperwork and we were off with the keys.
The car was parked in the bay that he had told us, we were even more happier to find that we had an upgrade. Having looked around the car and noticed a couple of more scratches, which I reported to the member of staff in the car park, we were on our way.
On return we pulled up and met immediately by a member of staff who booked the car back in.
All in all it worked smoothly thanks to the staff.

Very pleased with Europcar. They are not the cheapest to begin with, but you know exactly what you are getting, very straight forward and no hidden costs. I had a vehicle for 54 days, originally only for 30 but had to extend my rent twice. Customer service on phone was very efficient and quick. When I delivered the vehicle back, Jarek who checked my car was very customer oriented. Some other companies are looking for ways how to charge you more and the costs are often much higher in the end as originally booked. With Europcar you know exactly what you are buying and the full cost even before you pick up the car. Very proffessional, would never go to different provider.

Amazing service, Europcar EDI airport is willing to go the extra mile. Forget about Michelin guides; Europcar EDI has got you covered for splendid food recommendations. Have never tasted such delicacies at a car rental in my life. A-MA-ZING! How one can transform a regular vitamin bomb into a national treasure super-food by simply dipping it in batter and frying it for 4 minutes blowed my mind. Def recommend 11/11. Prebooked a car for 1pm and were there in time. Due to technical issues I had to wait almost an hour until I came to a clerk. Sure computer problems may happen, but there were less information to customers what to do and how it works now. Several people arrived after me and were first at the desk. Most of the staff made a complete confused impression to me, scurry around like ants not knowing what to do. Meanwhile the staff behind the desk were such "relaxed" chatting with customers and waste a lot of time unimpressed by the anger showing on the faces of waiting people.
Finally got it to the desk the clerk tried to sell me unnecessary things (ALL options were pre-booked) and on top tried to change me to another bigger car. Mind that the bigger car has much more equipment the other have not. After I rejected and got my car I minded that my car has all the things he mentioned only for the "bigger" one. The price would be a "great offer" from roundabout 1200€ to only 350€ never mind that would almost double my original price.
At last he "forgot" to change the return time to 2 pm (because I first GOT the car at this time) never mind I asked him for that. Luckily I made it for the right time back.
With this experience I should give you only 1 or 2 stars but because the car itself was very good and well equiped (what is the most important to me) and there were fast and straight work at returnal I decided to give you 3.

I booked easyJet car hire with flight. Email said service provided "by Keddy, by Eur....." and it took me a while to figure out it was at Europcar. Then service was quick and efficient. I got a slight free upgrade.

I am from New Zealand and this was my first time using Europcar and I booked them to get a good choice of an automatic transmission car, which always seem a bit scarce in UK, but why you would want to drive anything else in congested cities I don't know. Picking up the keys at the counter was quick and easy and the car ready and waiting outside. The car was near new and presented well. The controls of the car were so different to what I am used to particularly the electronics, so I would have appreciated the brief 'how to' instructions for the car being placed in view and not for me to find hidden behind the sunvisor once I'd laboriously figured out how to adjust the seat, steering wheel, mirrors and get the car actually moving. and then have the instructions fall down when I needed to put the visor down some kilometres down the road. All went well with the rental after that initial start and the car was good to drive. The return process also went very smoothly and quickly. I would recommend Europcar Edinburgh to anyone based on my experience.

As far as hire car company goes they are not too bad overall. The Edinburgh branch staff are very pleasant and make it an easy process. The desks and car park are well set out and kept tidy. Facilities are OK too. Late evening and night time access can be an issue but make sure you make prior arrangements if required.

The people working for Europcar at the agency in Edinburgh Airport were really great, friendly, and everything was dealt with very quickly. The car was clean and almost new. The only negative aspect was that it was not very powerful, but the Europcar agent gave us the choice between three cars (another plus for them), so we just made a wrong choice ;-) apart from that, everything was perfect, easy and fast !

I was extremely lucky there was no queue and i came without a reservation. Thanks to my flight with EasyJet, i had further discount for my Vauxhall Astra. Met a wonderful Europcar rep named Saif, and the registration process was smooth. I wonder why the rental car companies still can't automate the registration like those in the States.. most of the time, the car rental centre is packed with travellers, very frustrating flying long hours and got stuck for hours in the car rental.

When we arrived at the desk we were served by Hollie who throughout was friendly, chatty and very helpful. During our chat she learned that it was our Silver Wedding and arranged an upgrade for a small fee.
After an initial issue with the first car we were given we went back to see her and after apologising she and another member of staff sorted us another rental straight away.
Returning the car was as simple as you'd want and I'm more than happy to use Europcar on my next visit to Edinburgh.

Original: I've paid in advance for my car. When I arrived they told me the car isn't there but I can get an upgrade. Told me it will cost 10£ per day with extra insurance, no other extra cost. Later I found out that I paid +-40£ per day.

I lost my Gopro last week. I tried Edinburgh airport, BA, Heathrow airport and Europcar to see if they had found it. Everyone came up blank, but Europcar said they would check again when the car came back from a new rental. Next day they phoned to say they had got it. 2 days later I have it back, sent beautifully packaged. Great customer service!

Hired a car for the weekend, all went really smoothly and was happy with the car and the company.
Unfortunately when came to drop car off, the car valet's were tearing around like it was some sort of track day, honking loudly and revving aggressively, so added a lot of stress to our departure.
Not Europcar's fault as believe these guys are for all the car hires, but no where to put in feed back about these guys.

They push very hard for their insurance and make you sign some 'scary' forms if you decline- I didn't fall for it. Every person I dealt with was very friendly though. As always a very pleasant experience in Edinburgh. I arrived several hours early and they gave me a car within 5 min of arrival. I was offered an upgrade but refused it due to the single track roads in the highlands. However the offer was appreciated.

Le principal point négatif qui n'empêche de mettre une meilleure note et qui aurait pu faire baisser grandement notre satisfaction si le reste n'avait pas été à la hauteur est le fait que le vendeur bien que particulièrement gentil et de bons conseils nous a pris pour des touristes débiles. Je m'explique, nous sortions d'une très mauvaise expérience le jour même avec une marque moins chère, nous étions donc un peu abattu et le vendeur nous à fait le coup classique du " j'ai une voiture à 2000 livres, mais je vous fait le tarif professionnel à 1100 livres par contre les assurances sont obligatoires (200 et quelques livres). Or je n'avais absolument pas besoin des assurances puisque j'ai une carte de payement qui offre ce service. Fort heureusement pour le vendeur, il restait dans les prix des concurrents du jour et était particulièrement sympathique. Nous avons donc fermé les yeux et signé le papier. Il s'agit d'une pratique douteuse pour une marque comme Europcar mais soit, le reste était très professionnel donc passons pour cette fois.

Kvůli většímu zavazadlu nám byla při převzetí oproti naší původní rezervaci doporučena Toyota Corolla s prostornějším kufrem, hybridním pohonem a automatickou převodovkou. Ač skeptik ohledně automatů, nakonec jsem za ní po více jak 850 mílích v levém provozu byla vděčná.
Po týdnu cestování bez nejmenších komplikacích nás zpátky v Edinburghu přivítali Norman s Alem slovy ,,Dobrý den", takže jsme si při vrácení připadali skoro doma. A to až tak, že jsem v autě nechala peněženku, naštěstí je to z letiště opravdu kousek, takže nebyl problém se pro ni rychle vrátit. Ještě jednou díky.

Ich hatte überhaupt keine Probleme am Flughafen von Edinburgh. Nikolas war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
Es wurde auch nicht versucht mir zusätzlich irgend etwas anzudrehen. Ich war es, die das Auto upgraden wollte. Für einen Navi und einen Automatik Wagen bekam ich einen guten Preis für drei Tage geboten. Auch die Zeit der Rückgabe war noch ohne Probleme zu verlängern.
Unser Auto sollte ohne Schäden sein, aber Nikolas sagte wir sollen es trotzdem vorher einmal komplett fotografieren. Dabei haben wir auch ein paar kleine Schäden entdeckt, aber es wurde uns später nichts in Rechnung gestellt. Die Rückgabe des Autos bei geschlossenem Schalter funktionierte auch ohne Probleme.
Innerhalb weniger Tage war die Kaution wieder auf meinem Konto.
Ich persönlich kann Europcar am Flughafen Edinburgh nur empfehlen.

Ich habe hier einige Rezensionen gelesen und muss dann auch mal über unsere äußerst gute Erfahrung berichten.
Kurze Wartezeit am Schalter und wir haben viele Späße mit den sehr freundlichen Mitarbeitern (ich glaube Josh/ meine Freundin glaubt George) gemacht. Einige Tipps gab es dazu.
Natürlich wurden uns auch weitere Zusatzversicherungen angeboten aber wo gibt es das nicht? Sofort als wir gesagt haben dass kein Interesse besteht war auch gut mit dem Thema.
Trotzdem wurde uns ein erhebliches Upgrade an Fahrzeug gegeben. Anstelle des 2 Türer manuelle Schaltung bekamen wir einen nagelneuen 4 Türer Polo mit Automatik was unsere Rundfahrt erheblich erleichterte.
Und das völlig ohne Aufpreis.
Fahrzeugrückgabe verlief ebenfalls ohne Probleme. Wir sind auf ein kurzes Gespräch sogar nochmal zu den Schaltermitarbeitern gegangen um uns zu bedanken.
