Alec designed and built a whole-wall of mixed shelving and cupboards for us, along with a desk and utilities cupboard for our study. He took our very amateur sketch, and transformed it into a detailed CAD design for us to talk over; we had some odd requirements (space to include an existing cabinet, a large printer to accommodate, and some concealed cabling). All of our requirements were carefully included in the detailed CAD design. What has been really brilliant however has been the translation of that design into the finished product; we wanted the 'edge of ply' effect and the way he arranged the construction and mixed all of the different elements is brilliant. We are really happy with the finished product which is beautifully built, and robust. Alec even went to the length of selecting plywood with attractive grain for all the doors, and then cutting it such that grain in adjacent doors lined up - amazing eye for detail! Alec was totally reliable, always on time, and left the room immaculate after a big piece of work. Thanks so much!

Alec recently made us a bespoke, fully glazed back door and frame to replace an old one that had seen better days and had non-standard dimensions. He was quick to respond to my initial enquiry, quoted promptly and kept me informed of progress as he worked on it. On installation day Alec arrived on time, worked effectively with our electrician who needed do some work around the same area and left everything clean and tidy afterwards. We've been so pleased with the result; the back door looks great and I've found the process much more smooth and straightforward than other experiences I've had. I'd be more than happy to ask Alec back for any future carpentry work.

I would thoroughly recommend Alec if you’re looking for an excellent local carpenter. Alec undertook several jobs for me in 2017 including: building and installing two window casements, constructing a large fitted storage unit (which totally transformed the room); fitting some skirting and boxing in some pipe work. All of the work was exceptional, and of a very high standard. Alec is clearly a talented craftsman. Alec is very friendly and easy to work with. He responded to my initial query really quickly and came round to chat about the jobs I wanted done. He provided some designs outlines which we talked through and I really appreciated his input. Alec’s quote didn’t change throughout the works, and he even gave me some offcuts of wood for free (to use as shelves). Alec always kept his appointments and was very tidy - not easy when you’re working with wood! The after service care was also excellent. Overall, I would gve Alec 10/10. It’s not easy finding high calibre, trustworthy and talented people but Alec is definitely one of them. I recommended Alec to a friend who also thought he did an amazing job, and I would employ him again without hesitation.

Alec has completed several jobs for us over the past few months. The biggest, the design and fitting of bespoke under stair storage, was done to a very high standard - we couldn't be happier with the look and functionality of the end result. He has also completed a few smaller jobs for us that have been tricky because it's an old property with uneven walls and floors. Again, the work has been to an excellent standard. Alec is great to work with as he is both open to ideas and happy to offer his own advice. His costing is good value and his timekeeping, cleanliness and personability are all superb. We will look to bring him back for future projects and wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone.

Alec built two bespoke wardrobes in our bedroom which are wonderful. He designed them to our needs, discussed variations options with us, and completed the project on time and to an excellent standard. He was extremely clean and tidy when he was working, and he is a very friendly and polite guy. I would definitely recommend Alec for any joinery or carpentry jobs you may have.

Alec did a great job for us, putting a cupboard and two box shelves into an alcove in our lounge. Alec was very good at listening to our ideas of how the cupboard should look, and was able to translate these slightly vague thoughts into a really good looking final piece. He was flexible and able to accommodate our requests. The box shelves were to match existing ones in another alcove, which they do perfectly. His workmanship is excellent, he's a fast and tidy worker, and he was always punctual and polite. We'd have no hesitation in using him again and have already recommended him to friends.

I engaged Alec to make and fit bi-fold doors, to hang new internal doors and fix door furniture, and various other joinery jobs including skirting and architraves, as well as two beautifully made oak floating shelves in the kitchen. Alec was thorough and precise, reliable and tidy, and his work was completed to an excellent standard.

Having dealt with Alec on 2 different occasions in our home felt it was time to leave a comment and that is that we had a jekyl and hyde experience. The first time Alec completed some bespoke book shelving and a bespoke sliding door. About £1500 of work and I could not fault his workmanship at all. He was efficient and clearly very skilled. Second time, very recently, we asked Alec to devise a bespoke under step storage cavity that would flatten out an up-and-down landing stairway section. We waited since before christmas for an evening Alec could visit. I had to be at a meeting but Alec couldn't be flexible on this date or time so my fiance tried to explain what we wanted but perhaps didn't do the greatest job. Alec sent a very basic description and price for his idea but would not accompany this with a sketch, or any measurements of the internal space that would be left after supporting joints. Pretty essential if this is to be a storage cavity. What would be able to store there eventually? If the space wasn't big enough then the whole thing wouldn't benefit us. Alec didn't make any effort to contact me by phone to discuss my alternate vision nor to explain his own solution, and deemed it would be a waste of his time sketching something I didn't want, even though he had not explained it so I could not be sure of that. The communication broke down and it was clear Alec simply didn't care about taking this project forward. I'm writing this because we were really disappointed by this change in dedication to customer service from before. We thought Alec was someone we we could trust to take the job seriously no matter the size, and it has cost us 3 months where we could have been collecting quotes from other busy tradesmen or even completed the job by now. Due to this, we wont be asking him to quote on anything again.

Alec did a wonderful job in restoring our georgian style wooden bay window in Kemptown that was in a bad way after years of being bashed by salty breezes! He was efficient, communicative and carried out the work under the time schedule he set out. The work was of high quality and was I amazed at the finish, I never expected they could be restored to that level which has helped to avoid unaffordable replacement. A really lovely and polite guy - who turns up when he says he will, finishes the job on schedule and budget, leaves room tidier than when he arrived. And all this in addition to being very skilled at carpentry. Our built in shelves and cupboard in alcove are fantastic and just what we wanted. Al was helpful every step of the way and did a beautiful job fitting two oak mantels over fireplaces, and a shelf in our kitchen. All were free of visible brackets. We were unsure exactly what we wanted but Al helped us with this and simplified it by ordering the wood and doing extensive prep before coming and fitting them. When finished he cleaned up after him leaving the end product looking fantastic. I would highly recommend Al, he has an excellent eye for accuracy and good problem solving skills. Thanks Al! I am really pleased with the sash window from Alec. It looks great and is traditionally made to a very high standard. Alec is professional and friendly. Good value for a job done by a skilled craftsman.

Alec built a simple but lovely pine wood mantlepiece. A very courteous and precise carpenter! Definitely will get him to do more carpentry in the future.
