We are delighted with our new staircase - it has made such a difference to our home even though we kept our original carpets. It looks like a lovely art installation in the centre of the house. We were keen to use a local business and after reading the reviews and Rachael's informative visit we booked the work. The work took a little longer than expected, but the finish is beautiful and Thomas, Rob and Shy have sorted some areas around the skirtings that have looked messy for years. They were a great team of craftsmen and were respectful of our home so were comfortable to have working in the house with us. I originally worried that glass might not be in keeping with our Edwardian era house, but it looks amazing and has enhanced the first and second floors. The company deserves its five stars.

I needed an extra handrail as I was struggling with mobility issues but decided we'd go mad and have a full staircase renovation! We definitely made the right decision as it has totally transformed what was just a basic staircase. Everyone who has come into the house since has commented on it. In September 2018 we had our old, boarded staircase replaced with a new oak and glass staircase and also had a large under stairs walk-in cupboard removed. The transformation is amazing and we are absolutely delighted with the finished product. Thomas, Rachael and the team provide a very professional service and their attention to detail is spot on. Thomas is very approachable and gives solid advice. The job took just over two days and the on-site team of Rob, Calum and Joe worked extremely hard, were friendly and polite, and remained cheerful despite having to go back and forth in continuous pouring rain. I was pleasantly surprised that there was so little dust and mess but in any case the lads cleaned up at the end of each day. Thomas and his team have done the most amazing job on our new staircase. We were replacing our older mahogany spindle staircase for a much more modern wood/glass feature staircase. We were really keen to get a greyish stain colour to complete the look we wanted and Thomas arranged for numerous samples for us to select the right one from. Rachel came and did the initial design and showed us plenty of pictures of staircases that Thomas had installed. She had plenty of ideas and together we agreed on a design and date. Thomas arrived a couple of weeks before the agreed installation date and did the final and more comprehensive site survey. On the agreed day Thomas arrived with all the materials and Joe. Couldn't belive how quick Joe completed the job , a very talented guy. Had a query about the job as it neared completion , so rather than wait till the Mon to ring Thomas I rang him on a Sunday afternoon expecting to get his answer phone .But he answered my call and reassured me that he understood my worries and they would address them when they returned. After speaking to him I realised I had nothing to worry about and his idea from the start of the install of the stairs was the correct one. In case you are thinking that you should perhaps err on the side of caution and pay the sizeable extra amount to go with the well known national market leader for staircase renovation, then don't have any concerns in choosing Thomas Ferns instead, it's an excellent company. Whoever you choose, it seems that the product range is exactly the same, as the spindles, newel posts and handrails are all sourced from the same UK manufacturer. In fact, Thomas came up with a design idea and matching dado rail which the bigger company didn't suggest. The work was carried out by a very professional team of craftsmen who were very organised and considerate with regards to keeping my property tidy as they worked. At the start of 2020 we invited Rachael to put together a vision and quote to replace out tired old fashioned staircase . Rachael was excellent in her presentation of a vision and then went on to cost it and we were fairly pleased with the price too. We gave our deposit and agreed a fit in March 2020 but then COVID hit us and the world stopped !! . We had to wait until late April / May and at first got concerned that not unlike so many companies Thomas Ferns would fall as a result of Covid BUT they didn't and Thomas himself emerged eventually to fit our staircase What a transformation ! the expert fitting with attention to EVERY detail left us with a stunning staircase and is the centre piece of the dining room it sits in . We've just had our old 70's staircase completely replaced by Thomas Ferns and what a difference it makes. The whole process was very straightforward from the initial design consultation to the removal and fitting of the new staircase. One of the many things we liked were the various examples of style and samples of wood and glass shown to us during the design consultation stage meaning we could readily envisage the finished product before we placed the order. When it came to fitting the new staircase Thomas and his team were meticulous workmen with a keen eye on attention to detail making sure that the finished product was just as we wanted. All in all considering the positive change its made to our house and the complete lack of hassle I wonder why we didn't replace our staircase sooner.

I had considered renovating our staircase for sometime but was always put off as the majority of workmen do not do or say what they promise. Having finally convinced my husband that it would make a huge difference to a very small hallway and landing I set about obtaining various quotes which was jaw dropping and very daunting I had received four different quotes ranging in value but was not happy with any of them, none of them were offering what a wanted at a fair price. So it was back to the drawing board and to search the internet to obtain further quotes. I came across Thomas Ferns Staircase website and decided to give them a call. Rachael the Sales Director was very helpful and it was obvious from the outset that she knew her job so we arranged a site visit. Rachael arrived on time with all the samples and answered all the questions we asked in a straight forward direct manor. Although the price was expensive for a small staircase renovation it was considerably less that any other quote so we decided to go ahead. I am so pleased that we did. The next step was a visit from Thomas himself who carried out a comprehensive survey and again answered any questions or queries that had occurred since Rachael’s visit and an installation date was arranged. Thomas and Joe arrived promptly at 8.15a.m. as arranged. They immediately set about transforming our staircase, working continuously throughout the day in a tidy and professional manor and at each stage ensuring that we were happy with the results. They worked a thirteen hour day only briefly stopping for a short lunch and tea break. They left no mess and cleaned up as they went along Both their work was 100% first class and the final result was better than I could have wished for Everyone who has seen the finished result have made positive comments and I would not hesitate to recommend the company for a stair renovation I do not normally write reviews, but the quality of workmanship was to such a high standard I decided that this was an exceptional case.
