Reviews of Emma Bridgewater Factory

A visit to Emma Bridgewater has been on my bucket list. I couldn't get booked on any of the things to do for the time I was staying in Stoke on Trent. The staff in factory shop were very helpful and friendly. The shop is very well stocked and beautiful decorations throughout. The outlet shop had a totally different atmosphere. Staff in my opinion not as helpful. Had coffee and breakfast in cafe. Was told no chef so couldn't have a cooked breakfast (despite other tables being served with cooked breakfast). Had to pay upfront, but couldn't have receipt? Coffee was lovely. Bacon sandwich was very over cooked. Staff busy talking, couldn't order another coffee which was disappointing. I was expecting to stay for a while but after going into shop I left.... obviously with a couple of small purchases!

Had lunch and spent the afternoon decorating pottery. The food was quote nice, particularly the dessert. Painting the pottery was fun. They provided a lot of paint colors and numerous stamps to help make some nice designs. Good way to spend your afternoon.

We did the decorating studio & the afternoon tea. The decorating studio is good fun but the items you have to buy to paint are very pricey. The afternoon tea was also nice but I'd have preferred the ability to pick my sandwich fillings if I'm being picky. Nice few hours though

Super day out for Mother's Day Cream Tea, drinks and painting. You even get to have the item of your choice fired and posted. Thanks ♥️

We really enjoyed our visit to The Emma Bridgewater Decorating Studio. We attended as a group of 3 adults and 2 children during the tail end of Omicron restrictions. The staff were very helpful and followed Covid guidance with masks etc.
The decorating studio is lots of fun! We chose to create travel beakers, a bowl and a candle holder and enjoyed letting our artistic sides loose. My only comment would be that the time goes quickly and another half an hour would be absolutely perfect. Otherwise a great activity and we will return.

Lovely afternoon tea with friendly staff. Good way to spend weekday afternoon

The Emma Bridgewater factory is located on a small and well looked after site the outskirts of Stoke on Trent. The main lures are the factory outlet store and the main store (the quality of the products are very much on a par). They are both well stocked with a wide range of products. The factory also hosts tours that go round the factory as well as an opportunity to decorate an item from a predefined list. There is also a cafe that has the standard range of drinks, cakes and lunchtime light bites. Three bits of cake, 2 hot drinks and a coke cost around £15.
There is also a decently sized car park which is free to park in.
All the staff were friendly and helpful in the shops, cafe and decorating buildings.

The tour was absolutely incredible! To see how these pieces are made and the care being taken, you are surprised any of these delicate pieces even end up in the seconds shop. Food was amazing and we had a real laugh towards the end decorating our own pieces. My husband is not very happy with how much money we spent this weekend but I have had the most amazing time!

Such a lovely fun day out! Food at the cafe was lovely too 🤤

Had a look round after visiting Monkey Forest , lovely old buildings , plenty of Pottery to see , you can paint your own piece of Pottery in one of buildings, had a drink at Cafe, friend requested hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows but didn't have so had latte , I had a ginger beer which was refreshing we sat in the enclosed courtyard with our drinks which was nice and peaceful as weather was ok

Thoroughly recommend this experience. Factory tour seeing all the ware being hand made and then chance to paint your own pottery piece. Excellent value meals in the cafe. Lovely welcoming people. And the shopping too of course.
B. M.
Lovely visit to the tea room, with the most delicious scone, with jam and cream. The garden is beautiful, with an abundance of spring tulips. Bought a couple of pieces to add to my collection, just a little disappointed with the staff in both the main shop and factory shop. They looked fed up, and lacked their usual pleasant chat and interaction!
A. P.
Great place to visit and shop beautiful Emma Bridgewater pottery, and the Cafè with homemade food and cakes. It maybe a little pricey, but you are buying great design and supporting British manufacturing.
R. P.
The cafe here is fantastic. All the food we ordered was delicious and very good value for money. Breakfast needs to be booked in advance but we were lucky enough to get a walk up table for lunch.
C. H.
Good craft activity in the decorating studio. Reasonably priced as well but make sure you book well in advance as it sells out quick!
B. H.
Really lovely morning at emma bridgewater painting studio, very reasonably priced, lots of stencils and helpful tips :) lunch in the cafe was also delicious, I love that the drinks are served in random mugs from past designs

Always enjoy a trip out here. Bought a few items and had a lovely lunch in the cafe. Well-priced and good portions. Kids menu was good too.

Had breakfast then onto decorating experience & finally tour of the factory great day for Emma Bridgewater fans plus all staff were very friendly & helpful.
Perfect day.

Heard so much about the factory! Lots and lots of Emma's pottery on Instagram💕 so had to visit!!! Must add that my collection is growing! Calm, friendly, helpful welcome upon arrival. There's a large cafe selling hot/cold drinks / delicious homemade cakes/tray bakes /sandwiches. You need to pre order Afternoon Tea on line. Must say the Afternoon Tea's looked amazing! Reasonable prices. First shop sells second's. The other shop sells the latest Emma products! Pottery /tea towels/kettles/trays & more! Large courtyard area with tables/seats. We had the most enjoyable experience. Not too sure about disabled ♿ toilets. Noticed some alterations were bring made ( painting). Our only concern is that the car park could be bigger! It's such a popular factory 🏭 you may find it tricky to park. It's well worth the wait 💕💕💕🏭 You MUST go 🤗 Thank you for a memorable day!
B. A.
Cafe is closed due to COVID 19, but the seconds shop and retail shop are trading. Great selection of current and discontinued stock. Good but not amazing mark downs - ie 25 - 50%. Worth a visit.

My partner loves Emma Bridgewater, I need to start out with that. Me? I can take it or leave it, the thought of spending £20 on a mug makes me want to cry. Boy did seeing the workmanship that goes into the pieces make me appreciate the price a whole lot more.
We did the experience day with included a tour of the factory, afternoon tea and finally a session in the decorating studio.
To start off with we visited the seconds shop (items that don't quite reach the standard to go to full retail). There were plenty of items on sale, staff were friendly and we had spent £40 in the blink of an eye.
We then started our tour which takes you around the site and more importantly around the factory where human hands are pumping out 30,000+ units of pottery a week. It really is inspiring to hear Emma's story and see a) how this tradition of pottery in stoke is very much alive and b) just how much work goes in to producing the pottery. At a rough count I could see at least 7 phases for a single mug, touched by a different person at each phase. The manpower needed is crazy and the quality control is apparent.
Needless to say the tour is well worthwhile, it isn't overly long but you manage to travel the process of lump of clay to finished item and it was mightily enjoyable.
After the tour we had afternoon tea made up of sandwiches, scones, carrot cake and a brownie finished off with a mug of tea....all served in Emma Bridgewaters finest crockery. Lunch was delicious, filling and well worth while. As with the tour the staff were excellent.
After a bit more shopping in the full price store we moved on to our decorating studio session. We had a half pint mug to decorate using paints and sponges, honestly this was the most fun. Me and my partner had such a blast decorating our mugs that we bought a plate each!
3 hours whizzed by and at this point after 6 hours at the factory we were ready to leave after a fantastic day.
I'd recommend this day to anyone with a keen interest in pottery or if like me you just enjoy a bit of craft and creation. It's inspiring to see the factory and you really appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into the items you see in John Lewis. Well worth a visit and a great day out!
E. R.
Decent day out, fascinating insite in what has quietly become a British institution. The tour takes around an hour, it's surprising how much manual labor still goes into making pottery. Cafe serves great food, can be a little busy.
K. C. G.
The old brick buildings are beautiful backdrop for some truly vintage and unique pottery. Only looked at the shop and peaked in the factory windows which looked interesting, but were not open when we went on a Saturday afternoon. As beautiful and quaint as everything was, I found the shop selection a little small and underwhelming.
V. Č.
Absolutely perfect experience we did decorating breakfast studio and we love it. Thank you very much for lovely morning. Very nice people working there. We would like to come back soon.
L. W.
Ladies, browse and buy. Products are pretty, use them everyday or just to admire on a shelf or dresser. My fav brand.
Thanks emma 😊

We decided to break our journey up from the Lake District back to Bristol with a visit to Emma Bridgewater and a visit to the decorating studio. We had a fab visit, it was all completely worth it, you do need to book in advance but it is easy to spend a very pleasant afternoon.

Fantastic family day out - felt very safe with all the COVID measures in place - can’t wait to go back - we visited in half term oct 2020
S. M.
The experience was amazing! We had breakfast which was served on all EB pottery. Every price was different, but it worked. Then we went on to decorate a piece, hubby chose a half pint mug and I chose a small tea cup. Painting with glaze and stamps in a way to get a great design even if you have no experience. And any design they have, they have a stamp sponge for. I would do it again and again!
One more point, the staff were amazing, so knowledgeable about the brand and polite, kind and helpful.

EDIT: Updated from 1 to 3 stars. Finally got a reply two weeks later and received a refund for the one mug. Disappointed that to buy one mug, I have to pay for shipping from the UK to the US, and the mug I wanted to gift is no longer in stock. I love their designs, and if it weren't for the difficult customer service, I would give them 5 stars. :( :END EDIT
Horrible customer service if you are
shopping from the US. :( US phone number is not working, emails are not responded to.
I made an order and later received a large box; all items inside were wrapped well but I was missing one mug from my order and yet it was
listed in thr invoice and packing list. I tried calling at many different hours of the day,
but their customer service phone number
for the US (which is listed on their web
page and invoice), was disconnected (just
"beep beep beep" like a busy signal at all
hours. I then decided to email them and
got an automated reply saying, "Our
Customer services team are currently
working from home, so replies may take
slightly longer than usual." It has now been
5 days and still no reply and no indication
for when I will receive my missing mug. Based on previous reviews, I'm afraid I won't get a reply. How is working from home supposed to
make answering emails take this much
longer? Severely disappointed in this brand
that I thought would make great gifts...
J. H.
Cafe very good - good food and drink at fair prices and staff excellent. Shop is relatively small and reductions from standard retail prices not very big, so products still pretty expensive overall.
T. C.
Great place , excellent cafe, good value veggie and vegan breakfast
Staff very helpful
Well worth visit to decorate pottery to your own design
K. H.
Really enjoyed my afternoon tea at Emma Bridgewater the food was nice but was a bit surprised when we were charged for extra tea that's never happened before
A. S.
The best coffee and cakes of course served on a range of Emma Bridgewater products!
P. T.
The factory tour is extremely interesting and costs next to nothing. The decorating studio is a great place to spend a few hours and you get to make something unique
C. B.
The cafe do an amazing breakfast. Loads of food on a full English and only £8.95. The seconds shop was well laid out and felt safe walking around.
R. R.
Good factory tour,...its free and free parking at rear of factory thats well signed. Big seconds shop, gifr shop, cafe and toilets onsite. New designs are expensive.
R. R.
a very interesting decorating studio. We went with the children, and the children and adults loved it.)
D. T.
Fantastic afternoon tea & decorating class. So therapeutic & enjoyable! Will definitely be back once the factory tour opens again.
P. J.
Staff exalent as ever. Shame you can't take dogs in the café but you can in the shops.
C. M.
My wife says it's wonderful. To me it's a factory shop full of ceramics. That said they have improved the car park and loos, and the fruit scone and cuppa I had were excellent.

We started in decorating studio which was fabulous - well organised, safe, Covid protocol followed - an amazing experience which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Sadly it went downhill from there onwards. Cafe staff were rude and unhelpful as we were initially early for afternoon tea. No where to sit that was dry so we were sent away. On our return we were initially pleased to see temperatures were recorded and shown to our table. The actual food was delicious and very well presented. Sadly we watched a member of staff wipe a table with a cloth which was not rinsed simply slung on to the reception desk. It was then used again to wipe another table. No spray, no rinse, yuck! Simply moving possible germs around.
I didn't see any staff wash their hands at any time. We felt ignored throughout the time in the cafe.
When raised with the manager we were told they're using sanitiser!? Why not soap and water?
Left feeling slightly uneasy and wouldn't recommend the cafe to anyone.
J. W.
I booked an afternoon tea plus decorating studio time to celebrate my daughter's 3rd birthday. Firstly I would like to say, we thoroughly enjoyed the decorating studio and the staff in this part were approachable and friendly.
Sadly for me, the cafe in which we had afternoon couldve been improved. The food was lovely and well presented BUT the customer service was poor. Several members of our party have dietary requirements which I was assured would be catered for. It's only when I checked prior to the food coming, they had no note of this! I understand things can get missed sometimes but the woman that served me was huffy and made me feel like I was being a massive pain despite it being their oversight- no apology which is fine but they made me feel rather deflated with their attitude. Also there were 2 children in the group, my daughter and her best mate- I rang prior to see whether we could have a couple of balloons and bring a birthday cake and was told this wouldn't be a problem- my husband arrived prior and the lady said no although she let us have our 3 balloon. I totally get that it's a cafe so they don't want balloons or a cake from elsewhere there but wish they had not given us contradictory info- there were 2 kids and 7 adults, it wasn't exactly raucous and I wasn't going to go mad decorating, I just wanted it to be special for my daughter.
In summary, I would certainly recommend the decorating studio but certain staff in the cafe need some customer service training - if we come again we'll have lunch elsewhere.
D. P.
Always love coming here. My wife is an avid collector of Emma Bridgewater pottery so we spend a lot of time venturing down to the "mothership" as she calls it.
A. L.
Great range of seconds and top notch Bridgewater gifts. A great place to find something irreverant and hand crafted. Only ships were open so didn't get the full experience but the gardens outside were lovely with Spring blooms.
l. W.
What a fascinating place to visit. Fantastic lunch and a great browse.
B. D.
Good sale choices, busy but safe environment
D. C.
The painting is so fun and the staff there were fantastic! They were helpful but did not hover if you wanted to get on with it on your own! The seconds shop was full to the brim with fantastic finds, and the coffee shop/restaurant was brilliant.
S. R.
Nice place to visit for coffee and cake 🎂 👍

Fantastic Place to visit!
The staff here are always so lovely and helpful, and it is always a pleasure to visit.
We had some lunch here today and the food was beautiful - so good we asked the chef how to make the salad dressing and the scones! The food is freshly made on site and really is good value for money - honestly cannot rate it enough. It is such a cosy, relaxed atmosphere inside the cafe. We love it here and would highly recommend it!
S. C.
It was a fantastic day out, reading the other reviews regarding poor customer service our experience was the complete opposite, all the staff were friendly and helpful. I'm not artistic in the slightest but I enjoyed decorating a bowl and would encourage anyone to have a go. A varied and enjoyable experience.
M. R.
Well set out large carpark. Factory has plenty to look and buy. Lots of space inside so not overcrowded. Great place to go.
A. J. R.
A lovely place to visit. I love the pottery so it was only natural I’d go and visit the factory. I’ve never had a duff time there, staff always very friendly, nice selection of pottery for sale and the cafe is always lovely (though can get busy on weekends). The decorating studio experience was good, though when our pots arrived they were covered in glaze faults which was a shame.
J. B.
Great shop and Café. Staff as friendly and helpful as usual. Car parking and Entrance have changed since my last visit..really good.
N. P.
I visited this beautiful old factory on Wednesday 17th July 2019 as an Experience Day organised by Granddaughter as a treat for both of us. What a treat is was, we were 10 minutes late and the staff reorganised our visit completely, so helpful, so kind. All aspects of this visit are amazing, I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. A special thank you to Jane our tour guide, and all members of staff. Delicious afternoon tea, beautiful tea room. The day ended by decorating our chosen piece of pottery to decorate, really good fun.
Something for everyone.
Thank you so much for a wonderful day.

We visited yesterday (20/10) and on the whole, enjoyed the visit.
Seconds shop: excellent, great to get some bargains.
Main shop: beautiful items to purchase and really friendly ladies behind the counter.
Decorating studio: I feel a bit mixed about this. Firstly, there was a male and female who were particularly helpful and friendly.
However, even with a time limit of 1 hr 30 mins, we felt rushed. By the time you pay, choose your paints and item, sit down, you have less than an hour. I do appreciate it needs to be timed as it is busy though.
For most, it's really an activity only for little children. I say this because brushes on the table were large, over used, cheap children's brushes, so near impossible to use. Pencils were well-used so no sharp points to do anything neatly. Sponges were a bit dog-eared. So really this is more an activity for children, as the materials (aside from the beautifully made pottery available to paint on) are far from the materials that is used to produce the designs in the factory. However, I like the idea of the decorating studio, you can have fun there, and it was all kept clean and well run (loos immaculately clean!). You need to book to go into the studio.
HOWEVER, while we were there, there was a young lady, who used a wheelchair. She painted THE most beautiful design using the very same children's brushes I claimed were unusable. This lady had such a delicate touch and her design was nothing short of breathtaking (especially with the materials available on the tables). A number of visitors were rather in awe watching this young lady at work. I guess this shows that despite cheap splayed brushes, talent is talent (something I sadly lack!). In fact, when we left, a few of us commented how we would love to buy her work on pottery and wondered how we would track this lady down? (or we wondered whether she worked for Emma Bridgewater and whether she could paint a small range alongside your other items?).
So all in all, a good day was had by all. I would recommend!
J. B.
Lovely little factory tour which lasted about 45mins. We even tried our hand at plate throwing with the clay which was lots of fun! Incredible to see the very talented staff decorating and hand painting the pottery, gives you a real appreciation for the brand and craftsmanship. Amazing discounts too in the gift shop if you don't mind seconds! Only disappointment was not being able to take photos in the hand painting areas.
S. C.
I love Emma Bridgewater. Great customer service, fab, friendly team. At this moment in time they are doing their upmost in regards to covid and keeping customers safe. Shops are open and can book into the cafe for afternoon tea; which is delicious. It will be even better once the tours and decorating studio are open. Love it!
A. J.
Absolutely loved it. We did the factory experience, which gave us a guided tour, afternoon tea, time in the decorating studio AND a money off voucher in the shop. Highly recommend this place, there is also a factory discount shop. Although the shop and studio is open on a weekend the factory is only open Mon-Fri therefore booking is recommended. Parking is free and onsite.
W.
We all love this place for the seconds shop and cafe. Normally we like to eat lunch outside but they were only serving tea and cake 😢
J. N.
Really lovely day out, can spend many hours here in the lovely cafe, painted a plate and gorgeous gift shops. Very affordable and a lovely environment
B. W.
Cafe has a nice feel to it and the foods always been good, especially the oat cakes, but the staff could do with a bit of training. They're a bit stand offish and not very enthusiastic. Also, the parking can be a bit of a nightmare particularly for people with disabilities.
M. H.
Place it self is great 👍. Loads to look at and it's much more than just a shop. Not much parking when it's busy and queue for a till can take time, but worth it
R. M.
Prepare to spend dome time if you want to decorate your own piece. Good prices on 'seconds' but can't notice the flaws

A group of us came by coach from Yorkshire and we had a fantastic day out. The tour of the factory was fascinating, seeing each process along the line and we chatted to many of the staff who'd worked there for a long time. I was astonished that the whole manufacturing process is still carried out by hand, no robots here ! Everyone was friendly and pleasant. We had a pre-arranged lunch in the café which was excellent and such a quirky place. What a shame we live so far away as we'd be visiting the café all the time. Loved the polka dot AGA and the displays of vintage Emma Bridgewater wares. If I had any slight grumble at all it was that, although we saw hundreds of Christmas mugs, plates and other stuff going through the factory, there were none for sale in the shop which was a shame. Also I was a bit disappointed that none of the enamelware or paper products where for sale in the shop but they're obviously manufactured elsewhere as this is after all a ceramics factory. The seconds/discontinued shop had some good buys and I was particularly pleased that I got a couple of Bettys Fat Rascals mugs which I love as Betts is just down the road from me. All in all it was a brilliant day out and I just wish I lived nearer.

My friend and I visited in Oct. 2016 and we enjoyed their factory tour a lot. It was very informative and nicely relaxed atmosphere.
Re: photos in the factory, although previous post mentioned it was not allowed in painting area, this time it was OK except in the area where new seasons items were painted.
So I suppose they changed their policy : )

Good sale offers, and new entrance is close to car park.

Attended the collectors club factory tour today and it was absolutely fantastic. So much more than I could have hoped for with the added bonus of meeting Emma herself. This was her second tour, really great experience.

Nice place with those funny looking chickens outside.
Good for a coffee and cakes either before or after a browse around the various shops.
You can also have a bash at creating your own masterpieces in the attached studio and pop back after a few days to collect.

I have been a long time collector but I love my polka homeware.

Nice place for family. Enjoyed painting studio.

Visited with the family and made 2 monet-aspiring breakfast bowls. Good service from staff and an enjoyable experience.
We were told that our bowls were ready about a week later and had been expertly fired and glazed. Nice to see your own handy work.

Lovely day out. Great cafe n decorating studio. Seconds shop was an aladdins cave 😀 factory is a must for EB fans

We went to the decoration studio today, and found that on our table we had to ask things that were missing, like brushes, paper towels and eraser.

Lovely environment in which to bring out creativity or in my case lack of it. Surprisngly good cafe which set us up for an hours fun painting pottery.

We visited in half term with my grandson, daughter & son -in -law. The new studio is brilliant, with lots more space and light. Everyone had a great time and we are waiting to collect our mugs, which will be ready next week. We will definitely return.

Fun afternoon in the decorating studio followed by tea and cake. Loved it

A very unusual and interesting place!

My daughter and I booked a spot in the Decorating studio and also afternoon tea. We had a fabulous time, decorating personalised pottery that will always be a treasured memory. The afternoon tea was lush, the cafe is very airy and clean. Service was prompt and the food was lovely. I would recommend anyone to give it a visit and express yourself!
Oh and they do factory tours too. See what Stoke-on-Trent pottery is all about. :-)

Beautiful cafe!
M. D.
Fantastic little tea rooms, wonderful products and if you get the chance to attempt to create your own pottery then do so.... it's wonderful.

Obviously due to Covid not the full on experience I have had there in the past but staff ensuring only a certain number of people in the shop at any one time although not in the seconds area for some reason
B. L. M.
Not as good as normal as there is less stock in the factory shop at the moment. Not sure if Covid restrictions means the production line is running slower.

Love this place , afternoon tea was fabulous 💗
