Reviews of Hakkasan Hanway Place

The dim sum was over steamed and the food was ok but not up to scratch for usual Hakkasan standards. I experienced this twice in a row over the past six months so would not be as keen to recommend them. Service was good, prompt, professional and attentive.

Woow Hakkasan Amazing the Food is the best 7star very high quality I loved everything I ate the duck salad wow the best ever. There cocktails are fantastic you won't regret eating here at all. The staff are BRILLIANT so kind they won't even let you toss your own salad 😀 they do everything to make your experience perfect. The best restaurant I have eaten at all year 10/10 simply perfect

This is a Chinese new fusion type of restaurant. Been here a couple of times few years back and totally loved it. However, this time round, we find the food generally to be less exciting and does not match their high price range. The Peking duck with caviar is still the highlight but find the portion of meat has reduced. Would recommend to come at least once to try it out for the stars.
P.S. if you’re into sci fi utopia novels, do check out the book on last picture which is available on Amazon. Highly recommended read while waiting for your food to come. 😁

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!! One of the best dinner experience and food, hands down. Everything was amazing and couldn't fault anything. The Char Siu pork was melting in your mouth and even the simple Pak choi tasted amazing. If you are looking for a special dinner, I would highly recommend.

We went for dinner on a Saturday evening, first of all, book in advance because bookings for both the branches get full quite quickly.
Regardless, we were greeted by security then led down steep stairs to receptionists who escorted us to our seats. Definitely a dark and party like vibe with the narrow corridors and party booths. Our seat was in a quieter spot out of the main bar area. Service was very good, and in passing, servers kept checking on us which was nice.
Food was very well done, portion size initially was thought to be small but worked out to be the perfect amount as we ate it. Would definitely recommend the Smoked beef ribs with jasmine tea, the beef melts in your mouth and goes very well with the sauce and rice. Drinks were also very nice looking and tasting, Ruby Tang was very sweet to start and became stronger over the night. Upon special requests since it was our anniversary they provided a complimentary ice cream & wafer with bowl decorated with Happy Anniversary on it. Definitely would return.

Food was 10/10 and same goes for service! Pricey for what it was but worth going to! £250 for a filling spread of food for 2 people and a couple cocktails so expect to spend at least £100 pp

Amazing food and service. My wife and I went here on our 10th wedding anniversary! The ambience is awesome. Great selection of drinks, and I would say the best Cantonese food I’ve tasted till now. It’s pricey, but that’s expected. Will definitely be going back!!

This showcases some of the finest available Asian fusion cuisine in London, it is simply super. We arrived here on a very busy Saturday night for an anniversary dinner and the Plum Blossom tasting menu. The soft-shelled crab and dim sum starters were just as good as you'd get in Nobu or similar establishment, but the mains is where the dinner really excelled. The pan-fried silver cod was my pick but the chicken bathed in satay sauce was also fabulous and complimented the jasmine rice. I wasn't overly keen on the stir-fry rib eye but that was more to do with personal preference. Pudding was a lovely flavoursome cheesecake complemented with a raspberry (or could possibly have been strawberry!) sorbet and it ended the night perfectly for us. The low lit restaurant provides a lovely ambience as does the ample buzzing crowd. We went to the long bar after dinner which has plenty of choice. We enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely return to try out other parts of the menu. Well worth the money!!

The food was lovely, the service was below par and overall it’s massively overpriced.
The food was very nice, we had the Pearl tasting menu, which was the most expensive option. The duck pancakes were very fatty and difficult to eat - not sure why they need to cut it into squares TBH. The rest of the food was very nice - the dim sum in particular.
The drinks are offensively priced. We had tap water (room temp) and a beer and a coke as it was so expensive.
Service was poor. Took ages to get the hill or asked for drinks to be refreshed. The table wasn’t well cleaned and the waiters didn’t seem well informed about the menu. I was quite underwhelmed.
Crazily overpriced. I’d recommend a trip to China Town for great food without the opulence of caviar.

Have been here twice and the first time was really, really good and the second time, borderline awful. The first time— just incredible and exactly what you would expect going here. We had the steak, all of the dumplings, and a few vegetarian dishes, with cocktails and desserts and literally not a complaint about any of it.
BUT THE SECOND TIME— 😬
We got the steak and dumplings again and a few other different dishes and of the things we had tasted before… things were very obviously different. The steak especially was very offensive because it came out cold, like it had just been left on the side and when we brought this to the server’s attention the dishes were taken back… and I guess re-heated?? So they were no longer medium-rare. Even the dumplings weren’t as good.
It’s a bit mind-boggling because there wasn’t a huge amount of time passed between visits and both nights we were there were busy yes, but that doesn’t explain how the food was perfect one night but very much not the next— the waiting is never really an issue with us.
I’ve put two photos and you can see the clear difference between the two dishes…

It's better than I remember! The food was possibly the best Asian meal I had in London (and I had a lot, including at another Michelin-starred restaurant). And their cocktails, especially the Sea of Clouds, were incredible!

We went for my daughters 18th Birthday. I have been in the past for lunch but not for dinner. The lighting was too low and the atmosphere was more akin to a club than restaurant. I could hear a thing and had to end up raising my voice. We went for the set menus which was too much food and they should have advised us of this but did not, just wanted to make the money. Ended up taking most of it home in a doggy back. I dish actually came when we had finished. It was so so, not the best Chinese I have had for the price. Some of it was a bit too much on the sweet side. A bit too pricey for what it is, I have had better dim sum elsewhere in China Town and for a fraction of the price. The deserts were also hit and miss but did look amazing. I was too full to eat mine which was a rice pudding concoction. The other was a sorbet of some sort. Didn't quite know what they were as they were not listed on the menu, just signature house deserts. I personally would not go again as for me the atmosphere was just to loud. It was more suited to a trendy 20's-30's crowd out for an experience with friends. Also didn't help that the DJ was in our corner.

The food tasted really goood from drinks to food . Great service too . Ambience i would say the place is too dark for my liking but the music was great and amazing wall painting .
The menu caters different varieties and the food is presented very beautifully. Will upload some pictures . I definitely recommend their non alcoholic drinks and their classic dim sums .
Book your table before you get there pretty busy place . I do think this place is pricey but again it’s in London .
J. S.
The food is always delicious. Something you could never cook for yourself which makes it that more appealing to come and dine here.
The dark lighting adds to a more intimate experience with the people that you are with. Cocktails are always wonderful.

Hakkasan is a world famous Michelin starred Chinese Restaurant with 10 branches around the world. This one, in a small street near Tottenham Court Road, it was the first one!!. It is a bit dark, specially for a lunch, I imagine the atmosphere is very good for a dinner. Food is good and expensive, my only critique is the Hakkasan noodles were too oily and I dont like very oily food. There is a smart dress-code.
G. C.
This is the original Hakkasan and some would argue the best. I went on. Friday night for an early dinner so we could have the Taste of Hakkasan menu which included three courses and a cocktail/glass of champagne for £38pp.
I had forgotten now good the food was. Personally I preferred the baked dim sum over the classic/steamed. I recommend the sweet and sour pork! I would go back just for that. (Sorry I forgot to take a photo...was too busy eating...)
Great service. Recommend it as somewhere to go to celebrate something special!
L. G.
Beautiful place. Impressive entrance dark slate leading to a reception desk to check reservation. Greeted with lovely incense for a calming mood. everyone who met me were impressed. We just had drinks and there were served at the right temperature
Nice afternoon drink qnd chat. Will be going to eat for sure.

Very good restaurant ! Very good food not perfect but to be honest one of the best Chinese restaurant in Europe in my opinion. Too expensive? Yes welcome in London...
But as I always say, quality food has a cost especially in UK.
Overall very good : Very good food very good place (music, restaurant area...) And let's say good service. Not the best but I can't complain !
So well done guys ( French chef working in UK !!!)
R. K. (. L.
Very good, even if ludicrously priced for what is essentially upscaled Chinese grub. However, expect a delicious symphony of favours in every dish. The duck salad is superb, so a great place for a rare and special occasion also add to that friendly, yet professional service.
S. P.
Delicious food, caring members of staff - what more can one ask for? Will be coming again 😊💯
A. M.
Food is just good nothing extra ordinary. For this price I have had better Cantonese food. Not sure why its so famous. The staff is lovely though and great ambiance.
A. L.
Excellent duck and Dim Sum (we opted for the premium selection). Definitely worth the experience. The atmosphere is excellent, this is likely one of the most beautiful restaurants I went to. The prawn toast was different from any others I tried and extremely high quality, with actual prawns. Prices are extremely justified.
D. H.
I'll be candid, I was 100% ready to be disappointed with Hakkasan. I honestly didn't think it'd live up to its own reputation but it really did, and then some.
The food truly is exceptional and genuinely elevates the cuisine to another level.
I will now humbly join the masses in singing praises of Hakkasan's menu.
My only real complaint is that the interior is genuinely gorgeous but it was horribly dark in there. I think some better lighting would really do the interior design and the food a little more justice.
L. K.
Wonderful birthday dinner with family. Attentive Service especially the wonderful sommelier from Brazil, she was great. Food always a treat of variety and tastes well presented.
Only down side wine v overpriced.
J. F.
Call me controversial, but I am not the biggest fan…(1) food is delicious, but expect to pay £150+ pp per dinner and leave the place hungry; (2) staff will be kicking you out after 2 hours because “you can reserve tables for up to 2 hours only”; (3) it’s “sharing” type food but portions are so small and (4) tables are too small for all the plates, so you feel quite crammed.
We had a 6-person dinner and tried quite a lot from the menu. Top choices are:
1) supreme dim sum (£45)
2) crispy duck salad (£29)
3) signature peking duck (£110 without caviar)
4) Roasted silver cod in honey (£52) - this one is not for everyone. Some of my friends could not stand a combination of sweetness and white gosh. It’s also quite small.
5) stir fry beef in black bean sauce (£39)
6) MUST HAVE - Sweet caviar (£15) - I lover that pudding!
D.
The best dim sum I have tasted in a long time. Worth every penny. A lot of thought has been put into the taste, texture and appearance of these dishes. Overall a lovely experience and excellent service. The atmosphere is beautiful, even when Hakassan is packed you still feel like you have some privacy with the mood lighting.
O. I.
Venue is beautiful, although a little dark. We got the £39 set menu offer from OpenTable. It came with one small eat, one main, one side, one cocktail and one dessert. The small eats were delicious, we tried the dumplings and the mango and bean salad as an extra small eat (£25) - both highly recommended. The mains were nice too, we tried the beef and the king prawns. Overall great value for money with the deal. Would recommend with the deal while it’s still on! The food portions looked a bit small but it was very filling with the sticky sauces and a fair portion of rice on the side of the main. After the dessert we were stuffed. Their service was very friendly.
D. P.
Excellent - super tasty food, nice atmosphere, nice service.
I.
Best Asian cuisine in London. It is quite pricy but has a nice mix of flavors
J. F.
Great food and cocktail, and fantastic to see so many vegan options now on the menu
M. B.
Excellent food but the service is lacking polish for a Michelin starred place, we had multiple occasions of drinks arriving at the wrong time for the stage of food we were eating. Table is only a 2 hour seating which we learnt 1:55 after sitting down and being told our table was needed in 5 minutes.
V. F.
We hosted an event there and the professionalism of the staff was truly world class. Every single member of the team was extremely polite, friendly and well-trained, which is no easy task for any restaurant group during the pandemic.
The food and cocktails were all top notch from start to finish, which is no easy task for any restaurant when they're serving a large group at one time.
M. B.
We went there for brunch and it was fabulous. Great value for your money, delicious cocktails and tasty vegan menu. On top we had great service from a very attentive guy. Would definitely return!! 🌟
L. T.
What can i say food perfect as usual. Our highlight this visit was our numerous visits to the bar many thanks to Salvatore, our bartender who provided us with off the chart cocktails!
D. A.
Nice upscale Chinese restaurant.
We went here for the weekend brunch. The food was delicious, especially the dim sum. Nice cocktails. Stylish interior.
The downsides:
- It was hard to get waiter’s attention;
- To get to the restaurant you must walk a couple of back street, which may be unpleasant.
A. G.
The decor is beautiful and you do feel like you're in a michelin star restaurant as soon as you walk in, but the service, while attentive, feels more intent on getting you in and out than ensuring quality of experience.
The food is good overall, but should be for the price. We had the "Plum Blossom" set menu which at points, was excellent. I'd especially recommend:
+ The "Sweet Caviar" dessert.
+ The Pan Fried Silver Cod (my favourite)
+ The Stir Fried Rib-eye in black bean.
The satay chicken was very dry, which is a bit unforgivable for a restaurant of this calibre. Also well worth trying the Hakka cocktail if you enjoy them, as it's delicious.
Overall, one to say you've been to, but probably not one to rush back to in a hurry - three and a half stars probably fair.

I wanted to try out Hakkasan for a long time and last week I finally made it through their front doors in London. The restaurant itself was nicely put together. Dark lighting, Asian vibe decor and comfortable sofas to sit on. A nice place to go for a high-end business meeting or a date. We booked our table for 6pm on Sunday, so the restaurant is not busy with a lot of empty chairs around. We sat down for about 10 minutes before the waiter came over and took our drinks order, not a great start. We had about 5 or 6 cocktails and I have to say they were delicious! I would defiantly recommend their signature cocktail “The Hakka” I had 3... enough said. We ordered one of the more expensive tasting menu on their list £118pp to be exact. The first dish was nice, I would say I wasn’t blown away. I had better dumplings in a food stall in Bang Bang Oriental. Topping dumpling with caviar, gold leaf or truffles doesn’t make for good taste. Second starter was the duck, which I had to send back because it came out ice cold! The waitress didn’t apologise and just took the plate. 15/20 minutes later the same dish was back - again taking too long. On top of this the staff were running around and switching shifts and so there was no one there to really assist. I forgot to mention that they forgot to replace the cutlery after taking it away every single time. So every time there was a new course I had to wait, had to ask again and again for the cutlery. Not great when my food was getting cold. All in all the food was tasty, but not outstanding and definitely not what I expected! I had high hopes for Hakkasan. I think it’s a lovely place to go and socialise, eat and have a few cocktails but for the prices they charge I know there are much much better restaurants. The biggest issue for me is the price to quality, especially when you’re paying over £300+

This is a Michelin Star restaurant, the first asian restaurant in London to have received one. The prices are relatively high, but every single bite was an absolute delight (also the cocktails), and the service was pretty good as well. Would totally recommend this restaurant if you want to treat yourself with amazing Asian food in a modern and slightly dimmed atmosphere.
J.
Amazing amazing amazing. No need to say anything else really. Really good food, the char sui is incredible. Probably the best pork I have ever eaten! The setting is so nice and although really expensive it isn't your average Chinese and well worth it.
P. F.
The service is amazing, professional, make sure you are having a wonderful experience.
Now the food: excellent. This is the best duck I have eaten in my entire life. So soft and crispy in the outside. This is amazing.
Also had the chance to test the menue and you have a taste of everything. One of my top 2 restaurant in London and this ain’t number 2.
P. H.
We had a sublime experience at Hakkasan. Top class boozy Sunday brunch in an elegant yet upbeat setting. Not sure if it was the amount of drink I had or the interior but it really reminded me of Hong Kong. The brunch itself is good value for money in my view (£55 for 3 courses including loads of dim sum plus two cocktails each and half a bottle of red or white each). Dishes were well-sized and paced out. We were there about 3 hours!
C. H.
After all these years still going strong, if not perfect. Excellent high class chinese cooking using the best of produce. Superb wine list, wonderful staff and still a breath taking location, if you make it the steep stairs downstairs 😉 When we are in London, we go and have a great meal at Hakkasan Hanway Place.
N. P.
We tried the taste of Hakkasan menu for £38 which included three courses and a cocktail. For the value, the menu selection was quite good. I was a bit disappointed with the dumplings and expected these to be next level but it’s not the best I’ve had in London by far. The mains were really tasty, I had the spicy prawns and the sauce was so fragrant. Service was also quite slow.... which impacted our experience.
C. S.
Joined family here for a Sunday signature lunch.
Lovely food, with great presentation and a good selection of drinks.
Service was good and attentive. All sources came out smoothly and attempted to be explained (couldn’t always hear the waiter over the music)
Down side: Not so sure on the dining in the dark and load music. We where a large table and found it hard to talk to anyone but the person next to or opposite you.
N. M.
Really good food, but the service was a bit lacking. Despite arriving on time, we had to wait 20 minutes for our table, our servers didn’t give us water and took a while with the check. Having said that, the actual food is really good - the truffle edamame dumpling is my favorite dish on the menu, and I love the mushroom cheung fun.
L. T.
The whole duck and dim sum were very good. Others (deep fried prawns, aubergine clay pot, fried noodles and spring rolls) were so so and had nothing special to them. There was too much sugar in their food, what a real disappointment that there is no consistency in all of their dishes. It is not healthy at all to have so much sugar in food in general, really against the essence of Chinese food. Service was very good. Nice waiters and waitresses.
V. S.
Great food, service and presentation. We opted for the lotus menu which was all vegetarian and a good selection and variety of food. The cocktails were fantastic: you get what you pay for.
The only minor complaint I have is that the road and the entrance to this place had lot of trash on the side.
K. “. K.
Dim sum were quality, rich in flavour and to die for. The peking duck was excellent.
E. G.
One of our favorite place in London Soho area. Food is great, unique and into details. Presentation of dishes is amazing. Service is very good. Location is great. You go 1 minute from the busy Oxford street to a quite alley, go down under the ground to beautiful space. Best value for money!
J. P.
Really great experience visiting for my partners birthday. Great service, lovely decor and fantastic food is a winning combination. Will definitely be back!
B. R.
Went with my two 20 year old sons and the vegan girlfriend of one of them for a set deal. It turned out to be a magnificent experience. Excellent service, attentive staff. The cocktails included in the deal were delicious and of generous size. Food was beautifully presented and tasted great. We enjoyed the atmosphere - with an elegant and discret Chinese touch. Through starters and mains, the restaurant took great care of our vegan friend. As we knew the offer did not include any vegan dessert options, she was prepared to skip dessert. The restaurant, however, offered to make a vegan sorbet specially! What a nice thing to do - it crowned an already excellent experience. I can not praise this restaurant enough. Warmly recommended. Remember to book ahead - of course it is popular!
C. S.
Great food but service is a bit chaotic and atmosphere a bit fake.
C. G.
We came here and got the Phoenix Signature Menu and it did not disappoint!!
Absolutely loved every dish. Really good quantities (both of us were full by the end of the menu) and service was fantastic.
Tables were well socially distant and plenty of hand sanitizers when moving about the restaurant. All of the staff were wearing masks or face shields which was reassuring.
Overall, 10/10. Loved it - would definitely recommend!
C. S.
Fab meal! We went here for an early dinner between Parts 1 & 2 of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it's about a 10 minute walk from the Palace Theatre. We arrived slightly early and were seated at the bar to order from their extensive cocktail menu. It's quite dark inside but it creates a dramatic and sexy atmosphere. Service was fabulous too, not too intrusive but we were never left waiting for courses. 10/10!
d. b.
Delicious fresh tasting food in an interesting venue which had night club esq vibes, with dark atmosphere and music playing in the background. We tried the meal deal where we sampled 3 courses and a cocktail for £38 which was great value when compared to the rest of the menu.
J. M.
Dim sum were excellent, sea bass very tasty but tiny. Portions were not very substantial, we had the tasting menu (£38) the signature menu (starting at £55) would have been more filling I suppose. 3 stars was for the unfriendly waiter and rushed feeling to finish our meal in an hour. Decoration and ambience was really nice.
F. M.
Hakkasan is a particular place where you can enjoy revised Asian food (very tasty). The atmosphere is quite interesting, very dark and a bit too noisy - it is quite difficult to have a conversation without shouting. Service is good but a bit dry. No need to say that is very expensive. Make sure you book well in advance.
E. S.
One of my favourite restaurants, so chose it to celebrate my birthday. The food is incredible. So beautifully served and equally tasty. The service and drinks are also fabulous. I would highly recommend!
N. M.
Dim Sum Sundays signature menu is great value for a selection of tasty Asian cuisine with champagne and good cocktails.
Duck salad and Dim Sum selection (especially venison puffs) are especially good.
The restaurant is very darkly lit which can take a little time to get used too.
Staff are attentive and welcoming.
Dim Sum Sunday menus are for 2 people or more, you get the 4 courses, 2 cocktails and half a bottle of champagne per person for £62 (June 2018).
J. S.
I was lucky enough to be treated to a lunch here and it certainly was a treat. Food was wonderful. Fresh, beautifully prepared and presented and fantastic flavours. Staff were excellent from bar staff to waiters and receptionists. Polite, friendly and never overbearing. Prices are in line with the quality of food and service as well as location. Seating and ambience were good. It can get very busy but never felt crowded. Excellent bar. Worthy of 5 stars everytime for me.
D. K.
The food was decent but for me personally, I think the flavours were dulled down to suit the market. Not necessarily a bad thing, but for the price, I expected a bit more.
R. M.
This place is absolutely terrible apart from the food and drink. It's unbearably loud, literally like being in a club and it's almost completely dark. I see many reviews complimenting the decor - I have no idea what the decor is like because I can't see anything. The atmosphere is painfully bad because of the obnoxiously loud music.
Some of the food is really special. Some is OK. The cocktail was excellent but hilariously expensive. Service was fine but nothing to write home about. Definitely get a tasting menu because a single item on a la carte is almost as much. We had the Pearl for £128 each (but it's really £145 when you include service).
A. M.
Very tasty food and helpful staff. But ridiculous prices. Asked for a drink mid meal 3 times but it never came which was really poor. Music is very loud. Genuinely club level loud. Environment is cool. An experience.
E. b.
We ordered a set menu for 7, it was a lot of food to leave everyone satisfied, including desserts. Everything tasted amazing, they also have options for vegetarian. A bit pricey but it was expected, especially ordering drinks. Young crowd around.
Great service!
A. C. C.
What struck me most about this restaurant was how dark it was inside (hardly enough light to take photos :) ). Service was impeccable, as expected. Food was excellent, desserts were beautiful (but not my favourites). I would say five stars if not for the high prices...
P. C.
I’ve been here a few times and to other Hakkasan around the world but I must say my last visit was probably the best food wise. We tried the classic brunch menu, every course was delicious and our waiter was great at explaining all ingredients and taking care of us. I recommend the coconut prawn main and the Chinese mule cocktail. The starter salad with shredded duck is also exceptional.
S. M.
Always a pleasure to dine here - a varied menu, interesting wine list and great buzz about the place.
M. C.
Absolutely some of the best food in London. The duck was delicious. Great atmosphere and service. I'd recommend the silver cod baked in champagne.
K. F.
First Impression - It is a modern trendy restaurant. It is VERY dark with blue neon lights everywhere. At first I thought I was in a club, the vibe screams where is the dance floor. Don't expect to have great conversation here, or come here for a first date. I think this is somewhat due to the high ceilings in the restaurant.
Stand 0ut - We had the tasting menu, it was good, but not incredible. It was 88 pounds per person and I liked the assortment of dumplings the best. The highlight for me was the wine. I had two glasses of their 2011 Chateau de Barbe Blanche, French Bordeaux for 16,6 pounds per glass, it worth every penny! It was exceptional and I still think about it.
Overall impression - The service was average. The food was good. It is worth a visit if just to see what the hype is about. I don't think I would make it a regular place that I visited, or even somewhere I would have to return to.
Side note -
1) We made our reservations online and tjey took 20 minutes to seat us. They told us they're system was down and they had lost our reservation. We WERE ultimately seated, so it was a minor hiccup, but still caused a bit of stress on a Saturday night in London.
2) The bathroom was crazy. This may sound weird, but I was not the only one that entered and was a bit confused for a moment. The walls look like wood and the doors blend into the wood. When you enter, if the doors are closed it looks like a solid wood wall with just a sink inside the room. You need to push the wall to find the doors. Not a good architectural design for customers that are encouraged to engage in more that a few cocktails.
C. G.
Food is amazing. Cocktails are great! Went for an early birthday dinner so we were one of the first tables to arrive. The waiter was friendly, attentive and funny. Lovely black guy (wish I got his name!)
C. P.
The food was incredible, staff however was very slow
1. N. V. T.
What an experience. The Food was delicious, excellent service. Waiters were available any time. Nice and fancy Interior, only negative thing: the Music was a bit to loud. Difficult to have a conversation with my boyfriend. Otherwise a fantastic restaurant.
N. M.
If price is not an issue, then this place is a definite visit.
Brilliant ambience, friendly staff & some amazing seafood..
Supreme Momo for starters with a mix of different variety meat & spicy prawn is a must to try..
The wine selection is also commendable..

I've avoided Hakkasan in the past, because I had assumed it was a restaurant that prioritised glitz over substance. I was proven very, very wrong - after all this is the flagship Hakkasan that clinched the first Michelin star ever for Chinese cuisine. I came here for Dim Sum Sunday. Food here was amazing! Extremely delicate, flavourful, with substantial portions. The dimsum was really, really good. Mains were very clean, fresh, and generally cooked with a lot of finesse. Only slight let-down, which my dad and I fed back to the head chef (who is super nice), was that the fried rice needed more of that "wok hei" that you get in Hong Kong or Singapore.
Ambience - oh this place is sexy. It isn't as over the top as I thought it would be, and a lot more subdued actually than for example, Sexy Fish. In fact the whole ambience is very much like a trendy East meets West establishment in Shanghai, which is great.
Cocktails - they were really good and easy to drink.
Fantastic experience really and I am hands down going to come back more often!
D.
Hanway place Hakkasan is the best of the collection. Great ambience and atmosphere. Cocktails are served with a twist (upon request) and probably some of best in London. Food is absolutely delicious. Great menu selection be it A la carte or signature collections. Service is great as always, a special mention to Sebi this time around. He made it an 11 out of 10 night. Highly recommended. Don't care what anyone says, if you haven't been to hakkasan hanway place then you really are missing out. On your first time there you think what a dingy back street alley location it is, but as soon as you walk in and downstairs then it's like WOW!! Been many times and it still has that same awesome feel.

Fantastic night at Ling Ling Hanway.
Cool crowd, superb Hakkasan food. Had the jasmine beef, Lugavalin 16 whisky sour and supreme Dim Sum.
Music was epic. "Ups lifting house music"
Staff are friendly and knowledgable.
Def a good spot to come on a date or with friends.
M. E.
Gorgeous intimate restaurant. Had the lunch menu for £80 which came with generous top ups of vintage bubbly. The menu was great, the food delicious and the service amazing. Will be back soon.
A. C.
Food was amazing. Service and everything else was very good, maybe it takes a while to adjust to the dark ambience...but I guess it's all about the Restaurant Design. Anyway, worth the visit!
M. A.
Amazing place with very tasty food! The duck salad is a signature plate that you definitely needed to try but all the plates are magnificent! The best option for chinise cuisine!
M. S.
Tried Langoustine har gau with Prunier Caviar, Gold leaf lychee and lobster dumpling, Abalone and chicken shui mai, Royal king crab jade dumpling and Prawn and gai lan cheung fun. Great quality food. All dishes are delicious
A. O.
TINY tiny portions (how can you be stingy with rice!), overwhelming service (and quite salesy "do you want to start with a glass of champagne"... Chill out Karen), tasty dim sums, alright main - good flavours but nothing breathtaking, dessert was weird. Overall just okay, and definitely not great value for money
J. K.
This restaurant had a really cool vibe inside. A little hard to find the exterior of the restaurant though, which adds to the charm I suppose. The food was good (though pricey), but the best part was the chocolate dessert.
K. H.
Pricy (ofc, it's Michelin starred in London), but an overall tasty meal. I got the lunch set menu, that comes with a complimentary cocktail (major brownie points for that).
With my friend, we had the shrimp, beef (forget the exact cut), what tasted like rice crispies in choco and a chocolate, raspberry and olive fantasy. Authentic? Absolutely not. Creative and delicious? Absolutely yes!
I liked one of the dumplings the best (the green one with chinese chive in it) and my dessert, the choco, raspberry and olive concoction. The olive is subtle but adds an intriguing salty sharp twist into the sweetness if the chocolate.

1 of my favorite restaurants. This is the third Hakkassan that I visited; the first being Hakkassan Mayfair and the second Hakkassan New York City. Each time I enjoy superb food, fascinating presentation, courteous servers and an outstanding interior. And whoever goes with me gets as hooked as I am if not even more on tgis truly amazing place. It is pricey but I don’t dine there much. Normally I’m a tourist visiting a city and enjoying my stay in every way possible.
M. H.
The traditional dim sum dishes were really excellent - possibly the best in London. Much as I wanted to hate the ‘nightclub’ style basement restaurant, I actually rather liked the intimate lighting. Again, I wanted to hate the uniformed staff, but I couldn’t as they were efficient and friendly. Finally, I wanted to write it off as over-priced, but I can’t as lunch for two with tea came to only £50, which is no more than you’d pay at Royal China (my dim sum benchmark). Many of the dishes do look contrived and over-priced, but if you stick to the traditional dim sum menu you can’t go wrong. I’m a Hakkasan convert!
C. d. S.
Hidden away at a back street off Tottenham Court Road, you would have to know this place otherwise you would unlikely never walk passed it. Located in a basement which opens up to a huge room filled with tables which always seems to be full. Great music ambiance and excellent food.

The Food. Focus on the glorious food. So I returned back to Hanway place after a 5 year hiatus with my now ex partner. She doesn't like it said but alas we are no longer exclusive.
Back to the food. I promised her I would treat her ( after forgetting my wallet the last time and bragging when inebriated that I take her here when I win sport bets ).
We dined here 2 weeks ago ( finally ) and what a treat it was, especially for my gourmand ex. I was wary I admit ,after reading tons of negative reviews about poor service and social media conscious clientele, but none of that really mattered. Not after the delightful food we consumed.
I nobly let her choose ( because let's be honest I am a gentleman and lazy to boot) and she never lets me down with her choices.
We supped on Stir-fry black pepper rib eye beef with Merlot, Tofu, aubergine and Japanese mushroom claypot, Vegetable fried rice with preseved olive leaf, black truffle roasted duck, golden fried soft shell crab, salt and pepper squid, sesame prawn toast, 24 hrs slow roasted liberico pork char siu and Supreme dim sum.
We stuffed ourselves and still had enough leftovers for 2 meals the next day ( of course she got the doggie bag). All in all, a reminder of what 5 star dining ought to be about- food, glorious food.
L. H.
We have saved for this meal for a very long time. We set ourselves a budget and when we got there we blew it by miles. We couldn't resist the tasting menu, everything sounded amazing. It was by far one of the best meals we have ever had. The service and atmosphere was great. We especially loved the sea bass and ragu beef. It was also by far the most expensive meal we have ever had but worth every penny! Thank you
J. S.
Had a nice drink and the food was not bad but the service was slow and at times it seemed as if we were invisible, they seem to prefer servicing bigger groups. The decor and music are nice, just wish service was equal to all the tables. Baked dim sum was very good and it looked very nice!
J. H.
Went for dim sum for a birthday celebration. The vegan dim sum platter was good but my personal favourite was probably the crispy beancurd cheung fun. Surprisingly quiet on a Saturday lunchtime - maybe because it was a bank holiday weekend and everyone had gone away for the weekend. Good as a one off but obviously quite pricey, and compared to my favourite Chinatown dum sum haunt, although this place obviously offers a bit more finesse, but in terms of pure flavour there probably isn't much between them.
Also good to see some English sparkling wine behind the bar - albeit just the one I think - they have Digby's vintage rosé - I think it's actually something of an exclusive here.
A. H.
Quite simply the best Chinese I've ever had with fantastic ambience and brilliant customer service. It is expensive but was worth it for a truly memorable occasion. Go for the signature menu.
T. B.
Friendly, professional reception, great atmosphere, amazing food! I love dimsum and the selection We had was amazing. Overall great food, great service great place. Love the experience so thank you #hakkasan 👍🏻
R. A.
Amazing experience and incredible service, from the moment you enter until you leave 🙂 It was a recommendation from my hotel and I couldn’t be happier to have discovered this place. The food is simple beautiful !
C. Z.
The foie gras chicken roll and white peppercorn seafood dumplings were out of this world. Would recommend the Sunday menu.
T. M.
Food was really nice, portion could be bigger though. Liked the atmosphere too and staff were excellent.
S. F.
If you are after an "instagram" atmosphere and experience and have the money this is the place for you. Can not fault the decor, atmosphere, bar and staff. Does exactly what it says on the tin in that respect and would be a 5 star rating on those categories. However...
The pricing and menu are ridiculous. We were 4 celebrating an anniversary and have been to "starred" restaurants in many different countries, however I have never taken the time to write a review, as usually the reviews are fair enough, but with Hakkasan I don't want others making the mistake we made. As a general the food is of good quality and presented in an ok way (I have enclosed some photos), however I wouldn't rave about it like many of the reviews I read beforehand, as the value for money is terrible. My wife ordered her own dishes and although expensive (£34 each) was satisfied with what she got (not blown away though). The three others of us decided to order the "Phoenix Menu" for £90pp and it is this as to why I am writing the review and the place has really let itself down and it doesn't make sense why you would charge these prices. The Dim Sum starters were as can be seen in the picture and although you got to taste decent dim sum (in fairness) you got one of each, then a single duck salad, and single main courses between three people which left all of us hungry. For the £270 the three of us spent on this "set menu" we would have bought a considerable lot more and had much more variety for much less cost and I would advise anyone who is going in the future just to order your own dishes.
As you can see from above we were very disappointed in the value of the set menu, which was enough food for 1 person or 2 snacky people, and I hope this is something the place looks at.
There are some incredible places in china town which are less "fancy" but deliver food of a similar quality but at a fraction of the price or head to proper "starred" restaurant and spend the money but get very high quality food.
Last thing... There is a guy stood at decks with headphones on playing some good low volume tunes but is obviously just on a playlist.
It's that sort of a place... decent, showy but over priced
F. M.
A fabulous subterranean Chinese dining experience. This is the original Hakkasan and it still has the Feng Shui designed interior with dark wood, crystal trees, water and more. We ate an exceptional Chinese New Year feast here to celebrate the year of the Fire Rooster
L. M.
Lovely food!
The atmosphere is a bit too dark, I guess it's supposed to be romantic. Food is pricey but worth it for the taste. Staff are really attentive
K. Z.
Definitely worthy to visit. Hidden entrance makes it more magical. Great food.
J. K.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, and despite the portions not being substantial it was surprisingly filling. As you can see from the pics, the staff also made a nice gesture for our anniversary meal. Staff were polite, professional and attentive without being overbearing. 10/10
X. Y.
Food is okay. No cell phone signal whatsoever and wifi needs a lot of personal info to register. If you are prepared to enjoy fancy “chinese” food at high price without being disturbed by calls or emails, come here.
K. T.
I love to go there for Sunday dim sum all the time and it changing a lot and not that nice like it used to be. They change from nice champagne to a cheaper champagne for weekend brunch menu too
P. E.
My favourite restaurant in London. Outstanding. As always. The silver cod is incredible. And the hazelnut "bomb" desert is amazing. But the best thing on the menu is the smoky negroni cocktail (pictured). It's not cheap! So get ready to pay through the nose for water and rice. But certainly a night to remember.
r. l.
Very nice place with good service and food, I think they can go one step up with the food will be amazing
M. C.
My all time favourite Chinese restaurant - great food, varied menu, amazing cocktails, impeccable lighting and atmosphere - and some of the best customer service. It has a Michelin star, so certainly not cheap, but creative food at this level in this setting justifies the price tag.
E. D.
The food was amazing and the weekend brunch deal is great value.
R. A.
Went for Sunday Brunch. Food is delicious as was the non-alcoholic cocktail. Staff were very attentive and knowledgeable.
L. L.
Chose the Dragon menu that was outstanding the prawn starter was succulent and juicy and we couldnt have asked for a better choice of meal. The main course nearly stopped us as there was so much we almost couldn't finish it, but then the dessert was presented, it was the ''pièce de résistance' The taste, presentation and variety of the meal chosen has made it an evening to remember.
S. G.
Wonderful food, but priced accordingly. The location is great (just off Oxford Street). The interior is tasteful and intimate. If I had a criticism it would be that it is quite noisy, so not ideal for an intimate dinner.
P. B.
Great place for a special occasion. Go for the taster menu, so you get to sample a wider selection of amazing food.
A. C.
Very nice and welcoming staff, great service and extremely satisfied on how we were treated - Especially the staff named Sergiu N.
D. T.
Great experience overall. The service was a bit slow, and some dishes weren't excellent, but we'd come back again.
B. W.
Food is different from transitional Chinese food. Dim sum, Singapore noodle, and shrimps are good.
E. B.
Loved it! Food is simply fantastic as well as its presentation. Not cheap but worth the money - the set menus are good value for money. Perfect for a special occasion.
S. M.
It's like another world...beautiful space, dimmed lights, attentive service...looks and feels cosy.
The food is delicious.
L. W.
Brilliant Sunday Signature Menu. Such great service and amazing food. Cocktails and champagne.....who couldn't enjoy!!
T. R.
I enjoyed everything, the bar has unbelievable mixes, food is extraordinary and I was able to eat chilean sea bass and brunello di montancino, something rare to see in regular restaurants.
A. A.
Great atmosphere, delicious food. Fine dining experience.
M. C.
The best Hakkasan in London ! Great place with a chic interior ! The food is excellent & the staff very knowledgeable & friendly ! A beautiful bar with a fab ambience ! Defo come back again ! 👍😀🍹🍾👌💥
f. t.
Food is nice, but the proportion is too little. Stuffs are just ok. Waited 20mins for a second bowl of rice.
S.
Very pleased with Hakkasan Service, we ordered the noodles, mixed vegetable fried rice & the duck unfortunately we did not like The Duck. But Deividas S was super he done massive favour by removing the item out of the recipe I was pleased. Thank you Sir. Excellent Customer Service!
P. A.
Wonderfully stylish subterannean atmosphere. Top-notch asian fusion cuisine. AND child-friendly ;-) -- a 'plus'!
Worth its Michelin star.
A. J.
Ambience was great , hospitality was amazing. Food was good especially the dessert
D. K.
Food was delicious and we had the star deal so very affordable. There was a bit of a mix up with the service but the manager was very accommodating.
P. M.
Very nice food
Good ambiance
Well worth the money
J. P.
Came here for a business lunch prior to Tier 4 shenanigans and can highly recommend. Really good quality dim sum and lovely dessert. The lunch set meal offers good variety. Nice cocktails too.
P. Q.
Giving the staff the benefit of covid recovery and regrouping back to normality, I will give them a 3.5. We came for a Sunday brunch and ordered a few extras a la cart. The peking duck was by far the best thing we had, but not mind blowing. The crispy sweet sour pork was reminiscent of a US panda express however. The service was mediocre, but not altogether unexpected given hiring issues currently. One fault, they refused to allow us to order extra drinks after they made us wait 40 min for our bill. After directing us to the bar for another drink we again waited 20 min to simply be ignored at the bar.
All in all, a mediocre experience not worthy of a micheline star, $400gbp, or our return.
L. G.
The level of service, food and atmosphere were all faultless. Well worth the money!
P. P.
The most AMAZING Restaurent I’ve ever dined in!
C. B.
Really enjoyed this restaurant. I think this was my first UK Michelin star restaurant and it did not disappoint. The service at the table was a bit sloppy from time to time, mainly waiters sliding drinks in from the far end of the table with little care for who got the drinks, but oh were the drinks and food good.
X. H.
Have been there so many times. Ordering dim sum only from the menu in the afternoon is my favourite! Other dishes are good as well but pricy.
S. W.
5* Food & 5* Service. Vegan options are sublime. Staff were incredible & very accommodating. Cocktails are just mouthwatering. Amazing, amazing, Amazing. Cannot wait to be back! We will be buying a voucher to support this business throughout the next lockdown. Thanks so much for an exceptional long awaited date night 💞
S. B.
Amazing cocktails, good food, good service, desert too big!
E. H.
Food is always absolutely incredible - highly recommend the Shou signature menu and their entire cocktail list!
Service is a bit slow though and they need more staff but cannot fault them otherwise.
S. E.
Great tasting menu
R. a.
Incredible experience. Dim sum was mouth watering and service was certainly on point.
D. S.
Food was really really really tasty but staff doesn't act like in 5star restaurant.
R.
Simply delicious. My partner and I went for the Phoenix Signature tasting menu which I highly recommend if you would like a taste from the 'sea' and 'land'. I could just go dish by dish but I will rather stick to the one I loved the most which was the Classic Dim Sum. They were perfectly made with balanced and mind blowing flavours. You could easily taste each of the ingredients but also enjoy the perfect blend of all of them together. My partners favourite one was the duck, it was tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. Enjoy!!
Z.
Great food and amazing decor. The service was also good.
L. L.
Delicious and beautiful presentation. Great expression although a tab bit over priced.
I. J. (.
Love it here. Best restaurant in the world and always has been, I've been eating here forever.
S.
The best asian fusion restaurant in London. Beautiful menu and dishes cooked to perfection!
N.
Food was delicious! The service was excellent. Really enjoyed it! The only thing I found a bit on the oily and heavy side was the calamari. It didn't have the freshness to it as it was deep-fried in batter. I would have preferred just fried on its own with some light spices.
L. R.
Wow! Amazing food. Great atmosphere. Perfect
E. C.
The black cod in champagne was just cooked beautifully!
K. C.
All food I had for the evening was delicious. Each plate of food from Starter to Dessert had its own unique taste which I enjoyed. You can taste the quality! If you want a luxury tasting experience, Try the food here. Thank me later.
D. R.
Invited here for a business dinner. Excellent food, especially enjoyed the cod in champagne sauce.
C. R.
Vibe was good and so was service, perfect for date night. Food was ok, would recommend trying one of the set menus so you can sample some of the dishes at a decent (ish) price.
P. s.
The food portions were massive, 2 of us couldn't finish the set meal for 2. The place is gorgeous with lovely woodwork. Quality and the taste were okay. They lost our umbrella (this isn't going to make me leave 1 star review) but gave us substitute, things happens sometimes and we understand. They also serve some really good cocktails both alcoholic & non ones.
They could do with some good plates & bowls though, maybe they were trying to keep it simple & authentic I will never know.
N. M.
Lovely dim sum, great vegetarian selection and the tasting menu was great. Nice cocktails as well
R. A.
It was an amazing food and atmosphere, excellent service
H. A.
Didn't disappoint. So happy we went for a dinner with 2 other couples and it was such a great night. Great atmosphere, dark lighting, loved the ambience. Food was stunning!
N. Y.
Had high expectation because my friends recommended here for best Chinese food in town. But I personally think it is way too overhyped and priced for Chinese food, though they uses "rare" ingredients such as lily buds in some of their dishes (which might justify the price) it is just too normal in my opinion, nothing in particular had made me go "wow" or sth like that.. It is nice atmosphere tho, classy with good service.
A. G.
It was great. Food was surprisingly delicious. I wanted a second serving.
c.
Amazing food, but service was painfully slow, and tables were so close we felt as though we were sat ontop of other diners
A. K.
Excellent service and really good veggie options. The staff were excellent and really responsive.
L. I. M.
Fabulous food and impecable service. Very much recommended.
S. D.
I love to take the mick on my reviews usually but sorry, this one is a keeper. Hands down the best restaurant I've been to for years. Booked it because my line manager/wife and I love Chinese food and also because it's got a star. Not gonna lie I was a bit apprehensive about it, thought it was going to be just really pretentious food with Chinese writing on the menu. Couldn't be more wrong. It was amazing food, and it was easily distinguishable as Chinese food like you know you've had a Chinese, but on rocket fuel... like better than any Chinese food you've had in your life. My wife has a nut allergy, we were a little worried. The gentleman was outstandingly accommodating when we ordered a set menu, shuffling things and making small changes all the way through. The atmosphere is genuinely electric. Worth every single penny.
P. L.
Went with my wife and 7 year old son. Ordered dimsum sunday for 2. Was very nice with a good selection of tastes. Service was excellent.
D. V.
One of my favorite places to have dinner in London, have been here 3 times. Every time with a different excuse to celebrate for. Beautiful memories and amazing food. Waiting to be able to come back here again
T. M.
Delicious food and service impeccable! Thank you
s. s.
This was such a lovely place to go to! I mean everything was 10 out of 10! Customer service was out of this world! Food was amazing! Drinks were wow! I recommend this place highly! No words to describe ❤
S. T.
The Hakkasan is my favourite London Chinese restaurant, deep underground on the edge of Fitrovia, far away from the hustle and bustle of Soho's China Town. We always go for the signature set meals, offering excellent value for money; one of which includes Champagne and cocktails. On a recent trip to London, we popped in for lunch; as ever, we were greeted with a warm reception and enjoyed excellent cuisine delivered with friendly, efficient service. It may be slightly more expensive than your average Chinese restaurant, but dining there is a special experience in a special environment. We love it! My favourite cocktail is their Lychee Martini, which is absolutely delicious!
B. S. R.
Asian food by it best.... and London showed a level of service I didn't known existed 😊
V. S.
Great place good vibe.. bit overpriced! But overall a great experience!
S. W.
3 course meal with cocktail was amazing. I went on a Sunday evening so getting a table for two was easy. It was still really busy for a Sunday so would advise booking in advance for Friday and Saturday. Service was excellent and quick. Would most definitely recommend.
V. L.
For the hype and the prices I expected better. The food was good but not great. We had the Dragon set menu. Sesame toast was excellent. Lobster was excellent. Duck was good but unremarkable as was the rest.
We were packed in near some very young and rather excitable younger diners so didn't appreciate the constant jostling and their loitering. Would have expected from a restaurant of this pedigree.
G. P.
Would recommend to anyone the food the service was excellent. We will be going back for sure
T. S.
Outstanding service. Outstanding dishes. Outstanding wine list. Vibrant atmosphere. Pricy but worth it. Always again.
R. F.
We'd been to Hakkasan's Mayfair restaurant a couple of times before and really enjoyed it, but unfortunately Hanway Place didn't quite hit those heights.
There was nothing really wrong with the food, everything we ate was delicious. We both went for the Taste of Hakkasan early-evening meal, which was still good value at £39.00 for three courses and a cocktail. However I'm sure when we'd had this before at Mayfair it'd come with a bonus of their amazing venison puff and a pre-dessert of a sorbet. Alas neither were forthcoming this time.
The experience was just a little flat. The service wasn't bad or rude or anything like that, it was just kind of functional, and at a restaurant like Hakkasan we expected a bit better than that. Maybe we'd been spoiled by our previous visits to Hakkasan Mayfair but we were just a little disappointed by Hanway Place. Tasty food for sure but just lacking a little something.
C. N.
A favourite modern Chinese, with a British flair
Great service, they know their job. Keep it up
M. B.
Beautiful restaurant full of beautiful and professional staff. Super chic design.
Visually it was a 10 / 10
Food was 8/10.
Alas, sadly overpriced. The set lunch menu just wasn't worth the price . There are many other Michelin starred places in London that are better value.
It was quite noisy with loud music and seemed to be full of tourists.
And it was all over rather quickly. They are all about speed.
P. B.
This place is 19 years old now and starting to show it's age. The food is good but overpriced. Service was slow. I had to chase drinks order 4 times. The bill took 20 minutes to flag down sitting at an empty table.
H. D.
The food is top quality and the service is one of the best I've had in a while. Whatever your requests are they do their best to accommodate your needs. The restaurant is pretty big and has lots of tables - there is a bar there too if you just want to have some drinks.
Highly recommended
Z. J.
Finally, experience Hakkasan in London.
Beautiful dim sum and good taste!
R. N.
Really nice place; ideal for a special treat. The decor is nice and simple and dark. Food great; we had the lotus menu for £60 which is the vegetarian tasting menu.
Wine is relatively expensive, I think we paid £58 for a bottle and you could go MUCH higher but there are a couple of more affordable bottles on the menu in the £30 -40 range from memory.
Cocktails are lovely, I had the lychee martini which wasn’t sickly sweet (thank god) and my boyfriend had the golden era .
I think the nicest thing was the staff though - I casually mentioned we were there for a birthday (just in conversation) and they bought out a cake with a candle at the end. They were attentive but not fawning and just seemed lovely
R. P.
Very good food, drinks and service.
D. P.
The food is very creative and delicious. The mediocre service, cold temperature, cramped seating, poor lighting and eye-watering prices are not.
Four of us had the set menus with a total of two bottles of wine, which all came to just over £500. For that price point I expect excellent service and a terrific environment. Hakkasan Hanway Place had neither.
If you want to be among Love Island wannabes, this is for you. I'll find somewhere else to spend that sort of money.
K. K.
Booked for our anniversary meal after rave reviews from friends. We ordered the signature brunch which was excellent value for money, and the food and cocktails were really tasty. However, the service on this occasion was poor.
We waited almost an hour for our dim sum and instead of it arriving we got our main meal instead. After eating the main the dim sum arrived immediately afterwards, so we didn't get a chance to have a breather after the heavy main.
The staff didn't really seem too bothered and have us a half hearted sorry - no offer of a complimentary drink or offer of money off bill.
We weren't the only table in the restaurant having issues, a table of four new us was also complaining.
So great food but service let the restaurant down for us and somewhat spoiled our special occasion.
R. S.
Hakkasan has a 5 star rating from the food standards agency, from july 2019.
Very nice food and attentive service, I've been many times before in the distant past and this time was just as good, whilst the restaurant has many tables, the lighting gives each an intimate feeling.
We had the Phoenix set meal, with a cocktail and bottle of champagne, it was easily enough food !
M.
food was a lot tastier than expected! and obviously only go if you are willing to break the bank.
J. R.
I went just for cocktail, but it was spectacular!
D. W.
Amazing food and I gotta say the security guy was so chill. Had to mention this
N. S.
Amazing and intimate dining experience with delicious food and cocktails. The interior decor is dark and atmospheric and the service was first class. Much prefer the Hanway Place restaurant over its Mayfair counterpart
W. D.
Service is sublime. Food is also fantastic. Really neat vibe in the place with the lights and music. Good for a night out if your looking for a really high class restaurant highlighting Chinese cuisine and fancy drinks.
T. M.
Food is amazing, one of the best restaurants I have been in. Their twist on the smokey negroni is great too.
Q. Z.
Absolutely not worth the price in my opinion. Food was decent. Went there for the atmosphere and services which I thought was also just OK experience
M. B.
It's a London classic and is really a winter place but it's always good in here, best Chinese food I have all year usually. Very dark and stylish, smells amazing. Long bar that runs along the back of the venue, rest of the restaurant broken up into sections making it feel big and small at the same time - it's well designed. During busy lunches and at night there's a fantastic buzz around the place. It's not cheap, but for a group of you it's a great place to visit.
M. J.
More flavors, less waiters folding my napkin.
Had the tasting menu. Very delicious dimsum. But the rest of the menu was seasoned very poorly. Not enough spice, acid, or salt. And the rice was overcooked and mushy.
The restaurant has a very cool atmosphere and look.
T. M.
Fantastic cuisine with unrivalled service. Recommended to venture beyond their set menus to get the most out of your dining experience. Get the Peking duck with Prunier or Beluga caviar...! Also neatly tucked away so low foot traffic on the side street. You can't really go wrong here, be it brunch, lunch, or dinner. Pleasant for groups too.
G. Z.
Simply amazing. We had a couple of menus (Dragon and Bamboo). Every dish was at least very good, some excellent. Service was great. Expensive but worth it, will visit again.
R. S.
This has been one of our most favourite restaurants for over 16 years but disappointed by recent visit. The service has been consistently great over the years hence why I have given 3 stars for this visit. The menu has been significantly reduced with many favourites removed from the menu and portion sizes reduced. Some of the dishes don’t have the same intensity of flavour. Seems to be all about profit driving.. such a shame! Also the restaurant does have a fly issue that needs sorting.
M. L.
The Ambiance is great and the decorations were beautiful. I did my research prior to coming to this establishment since I was specifically looking for a Michelin star rated Cantonese restaurant. We were initially seated and had to wait over 10 minutes or so until we finally were able to get both Waters and our menus. Our server was kind at first he informed us and answered any of all of our questions regarding the menu. After about 25 minutes we finally got to place our order for food. The food came out at a reasonable pace, the dim sum was soggy and seemed to have been left sitting overnight. The rest of the food was cooked well, but lacked any serious flavor, thr bo choy was soggy, the venison bland. After we were served our main courses, our server disappeared. We had to wait over 30 minutes, with employees constantly walking by and avoiding eye contact and finally I had to walk up to a busser and asked to be serviced and have our table cleared out. We never did see our server again, and 200 pounds later incredibly disappointed at how mediocre the restaurant was. We quite honestly could have spent under 50 and gotten some better tasting food with better service at another restaurant without a Michelin star rating. The lychee martini was the best part. Cheers to the bar.

Their food is lovely. The ambience sets the mood for a dinner to be enjoyed. However, highly priced drinks menu for drinks that do not me the quota. Staff are also a little pushy and more courtesy at times could have been shown. Overall a nice place.
J. S.
Lovely place for sure, good lighting, not too bright and not too dark but just rite. Family functions, friends gatherings or coupleS night out are all my recommendations here. Special little place for sure
J. W.
Food is quite good and the price is reasonable, service is excellent. Very Friendly staff.
L. G.
Trendy, fantastic fusion Chinese food with excellent cocktails and service. Highly recommend!
A. L.
It's really a great place that lived up to the high expectations I had.
We went for some cocktails at the bar and ended up eating there as well. We were lucky enough to get a seating space at the bar, which on a Saturday night is very tricky.
The cocktails were really good, a bit on the weak side but that's not what you go for in a place like this.
The atmosphere is really cool without being intimidating or too posh. Great choice of music from the DJ as well.
The bar food is a small selection of the main menu, we had dimsum, soft shell crab and salt and pepper squid. All the best I've had in a while.
All in all a great experience.
C. S.
Just had the weekend brunch, couldn’t be better value for money! Excellent range of choices from the menu.
The service is one of the best I have experienced in London. All the staff and management were very attentive and every detail taken care of.
Great! Amazing!
V. P.
Service was ok and the food wasn't 5*
D. C.
Unbelievable food, plum sala to die for, lychee martini with a hint of rosewater. Wicked expensive but worth it.
T. D.
A very good fusion asian restaurant, the food is one of the best I have tasted in this type of cuisine. Decor is upmarket and tasteful, a lot of "beautiful people" frequent the place where there's a bar area which has a young buzz to it. After the dinner, the whole place becomes more like a bar so you can have a nice night out. Really good service too. The place is not the easiest to find if on foot, as its tucked away off Tottenham Court Road.

Best Duck Salad

Wow wow wow wowwwwwww
Worth every single penny
The food is absolutely amazing! We ordered 2 sets of dumplings, classic and supreme, both very delicious. I had the fish/special of the day and it was AMAZING! Stir fried Chilean sea bass with mushrooms and truffle oil. The fish practically melts in your mouth. Cocktails were delicious. Selection of wines is really nice as well. Coconut panacotta is absolutely recommended if you like sour flavours. It’s so fresh with the basil but the mango and passionfruit may be too much for some people. Overall amazing!
D. C.
Obvious things out of the way first: excellent food, unobtrusive but attentive wait staff, comfortable and modern atmosphere which can get loud but is offset by lounge style music. Now the less obvious: The price may shock you, but go before 7 or after 9 for a reasonably priced taster menu with generous portions that ensure you've made a memory and a new favourite. I had the sweet and sour pork, my dining partner had the very tender seabass, and we shared several excellent dumplings and various rolls - I highly suggest you try all of them. The Michelin star is well deserved. We will be returning, and recommend this to couples looking for something special that won't disappoint.
J. H.
Top class food top class service and the cocktails were to die for. The presentation was amazing. You have to try the dim sum it was lovely. I had never tried them so hard to compare but these were lovely. All the flavours were spot on. It is expensive but well worth the money. Would go again for a treat.
A. H.
Amazing food. Expensive but you get what you pay for. The char sui pork is a must. Service is generally great but be prepared for 15% mandatory service charge!!
A. W.
Beautiful and modern decor. The British like their basements, so that is where this restaurant is located, but it doesn't have a basement feel. A group of 10 of us had the prix fixe lunch special. And although it was £45, it was top notch. Service was friendly and attentive.
Tip: Great great restaurant for a special occasion.
Y. S.
Amazing restaurant, I come here (or to Mayfair) everytime I'm in London. Wonderful service with great attention to your needs (they even charged my phone). Delicious, creative, food. Beautiful design and atmosphere.
Don't miss it.
Y. T.
We went for Sunday lunch, which was an excellent set menu combination of appetisers, dim sum and a couple of mains plus dessert, accompanied by two cocktails and plenty of Champagne. All of it very nice indeed.
J. G.
Food was beyond belief, single handedly the best lunch I have ever eaten from a culinary experience perspective. Attention to detail, pairing of flavours, presentation and even great portion sizes. What sincerely let this experience down was the service. Cocktails taking over 30 mins to arrive - and even the comical moment of asking for the bill whilst doing the "internationally recognised" sign language of writing mid air - only to be passed a notepad and pen by our waitress who clearly had little grasp of the English language. Such a shame as otherwise would have been a genuine 5 star experience.
J. E.
Amazing restaurant, very romantic and the best Chinese food I have ever tasted. I took my wife for the special Sunday Lunch menu, which included lots of tasty food, cocktails and champagne and it was excellent. The staff were attentive and we felt so relaxed there we stayed for a few hours of bliss. Great place, great atmosphere, great food and drinks, great staff and although the prices might seem high you definitely get your monies worth. Overall 5/5.
K. B.
Trendy decor, though not sure about the Chinese connection, in fact the only Chinese member of staff was on the front desk! Food was pretty good and mildly Chinese influenced, however service was slow and sporadic, the couple next to us arrived 20 minutes later than us, had the same set brunch, but kept getting served before us, nobody asked us if we wanted another cocktail!
A. F.
Amazing food and ambiance ! We ordered a lot of different things to taste and were surprised by the fine quality of the meals. Service was also very nice. Do make sure to book in advance !
N. S.
Went for Dim Sum Sunday. Cocktail and 5 courses for £48 - classic menu.
The low lit restaurant has a great atmosphere. You lose the time of day as you are down in the basement of the building with louder music pumping in the background which just adds to the great ambience.
The food is fantastic and you are continually attended by a variety of wait staff. Would definitely return.
Prices may seem a little steep but you are paying for a Michelin star experience.
A little tricky to find as doorway not obvious at first.
J. D.
Nice food but crazy prices
S. Y.
Wonderfully memorable food.
We went after the motown show. We had no booking but they managed to find us a place.
Very smart place but also very dark. I guess its great for clandestine dinners.
We ordered the vegetarian dim sum and other vegetarian dishes.
Each morsel was wonderful. We did not feel we were missing out on meat or shellfish.
Cant wait to go back.
This is the only Hakasan i have been to. Not sure if the others are as excellent as this.
L. F.
I booked a table for my parents, having had a memorable meal here. They thought the food was excellent, the staff were excellent and the wine selection was good. Hence three stars.
However, the drum machine music playing throughout their meal was awful and as a whole made the whole experience worthy of one star. It was too loud, too repetitive and it almost completely prevented conversation. On the strength of this, they would never visit this restaurant again.
They mentioned how they felt about the loud, intrusive music to the staff and were told they weren't the first people to complain. They were utterly relieved to get out and to the relative quiet of Tottenham Court Road.
What a shame to ruin such a potentially lovely evening.
E. G.
A bit expensive for the quality of food. Vibrant place for evenings and good cocktails
S. L.
Great quality food great staff very knowledgeable and good vibes it's pricey but ur sitting in the heart of the most priciest post code in London
Great evening for dates and meetings
c. e.
THE BEST LYCEE MOJITOS EVER!
All of the cocktails in fact have been amazing.
The food is SECOND to none and the setting, while a bit dark, is cozy and always buzzing! Never had a bad meal here so I highly recommend. Dress code is smart casual. The location is a bit hard to find and your definitely better off in cab as the roads outside are tight and difficult to drive down. Not bad if your going the evening and don’t mind a couple of minutes walk from nearby parking. They are a Michele star restaurant and certainly worth the title! Obviously it’s goes without saying that this place is pricey. But if you want an outstanding 5star Chinese/pan Asian meal in central London then you must come here. Thank me later...
D. H.
I recently had the dim sum lunch here and the dishes I had were prepared to perfection. This is definitely Michelin star quality food. I'm somewhat familiar with Cantonese food but trying out new dishes prepared to such a high standard is truly a fun experience. The service was top notch, the atmosphere at lunch not so much. The dim sum lunch menu was surprisingly affordable, so I would highly recommend you try this place out for lunch.
K. K.
Excellent food and service. The decor and ambiance is very special. Expensive but high quality. Location can be difficult to find - its tucked away at the end of a street - but worth the effort to find it. Access difficult for those with severe mobility issues as it is a basement location with many steps and no elevator.
L. F.
The food is just exquisite! Most staff are very pleasant however there are one or two who seem so unhappy :/ I had the issue with the salt and pepper squid .. I don’t know why it arrived so late ? This had happened in the pervious visits as-well but this time some of the pieces were soggy and others were crispy Would’ve preferred all of them to be crispy to be completely honest. Damitris and the Italian guy name beginning with E behind the bar was amazing! Bubbly lively personality! Amazing service!!!
K. W.
I am a big fan of this restaurant and always have been. Superb Chinese food. You can always try on the food being spot on (albeit pricey) and I have therefore frequently booked it for special occasions.
Disappointingly on my last occasion visiting, despite my table of four having spent a small fortune on cocktails and a three course meal we were extremely rushed throughout the meal and were asked whilst paying for the meal (!!)if we could leave the table to allow the next guests to sit down.
It is a real shame that it has become the norm for it to be acceptable even in top restaurants to rush guests through (and state when arriving you can have the table for 1.5 hours). It put a real dampener on evening which is unfortunate. Meals on special occasions should be allowed to be drawn out so guests can enjoy drinks and just have a really good time.
K. Q.
My first visit there was amazing, staffs were very entertaining and friendly. Was given good recommendations, and the food was simply amazing! Managed to get a table by making a last minute reservation! Thank you very much!
J. Z.
The food was delicious, my partner stated the best Chinese food he's ever had. Service however really does not match the price tag. One waiter sneezed onto his hand and continued serving our food, and other waiters kept walking past without noticing we us trying to flag them down. This is my second time at this Hakkasan and my first experience the service was equally poor - with a waiter who kept interrupting our conversation to top up our nearly full glasses, but completely dismissive when we needed help with ordering more dishes or for the cheque.
A. D.
Food here is good, a nice atmosphere, came here with my wife for my birthday and have to say the service was the best thing about this place, every staff member was attentive. Only thing stopping me from giving this place a 5 star... the food for me was lacking a certain umph that I was expecting.
Four stars from me.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
L. O.
We made a reservation for 22 people and the restaurant was very accomaddating, we got a special set menu price of £80 per person which includes 8 courses. Peking duck was one of the dishes and I remember them serving us duck nonstop, each person could easily have 4 servings! They also charged us £30 for each bottle of wine we brought. Service was attentive, they kept giving you new glasses of water and at one point many of us had 2 glasses of water in front of us! Overall great experience and excellent Hakka cuisine in London. There was more than enough food for 22 people and we ended up packing a lot back home. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time though!
W. K.
Menu can be pricey, but this place serves excellent food with superb service. Apart from a la carte, lunch has an amazing selection of dim sum. For dinner, lobster noodles is not too heavily seasoned which allows you to enjoy the sweetness of fresh lobster. Pork ribs and soft shell crab starters are also worth trying!
T. W.
Very tasty, great attentive service!
N. G.
Amazing food, great cocktails, fun atmosphere. Therefore pricey! Slightly annoying that you can only stay for a set amount of time even though you're spending so much
D. L.
Went for dim sim sinday and got an enormous amount of amazing dim sum plus a cocktail and tea for £50 per head, the fried platter and the desert were incredinle. The restaurant was weirdly dark to the extent you cant really see the food and the staff a little cold anf unfriendly but over all worth 3 and a half stars.
M. P.
Has a special Sunday lunch menu with 5 courses and champagne and cocktails. Used to be my favourite menu in Europe but the venue was sold off by the owner and now you end up ordering more food as there isn't enough in the five courses and the desert is lacklustre for somewhere feted for its desserts
W.
The supreme dim sum tastes the same as the regular dimsum. Everything tastes like prawn can't really taste the lobster or anything else. Quite expensive for what it is. The service wasn't really Michelin level as it was a bit slow at times and the service is a cheeky 13.5%. The mains were actually great though especially the truffle sea bass and the beef. The sauces in the mains were delicious. Portion sizes are quite small but because it comes with rice it ended up being ok. We took the extra dimsum platter on top of a 3 course set menu. Cocktails were quite nice.
M. P.
Excellent oriental cuisine with 'buzzy' but not loud atmosphere. The food was sophisticated and well ahead of many similar establishments. I'd say a tad overpriced but that's London where high rents are the cause of so many closures -sometimes despite the quality of their offering. Believe me you'll not be disappointed and, as in my case, you'll want to return.
Z. L.
The food here is always amazing, fabulous presentation and good quality, we had the tasting menu so we didn't have to choose. Service was good with staff able to give recommendations and remember specific diner qwerks. Quite dark and can be a little loud, great for a night with a group
S. H.
Great cocktails and brilliant atmosphere. Good for dates and special occasions. Its expensive though and could get loud. The food is good but didn't like the Peking duck as much as China Tang's or Royal China Club's.
C. B.
Great meal and top notch service too. Obviously it is expensive but you get what you pay for.
G.
For a Special Evening out, Hakkasan has it all. Atmosphere is buzzy, people smartly dressed, music loud, food tasty, selection of cocktails (alcoholics or not) great. You would not think to find a place like that at the back of Tottenham Court Road... so ...surpriseeee!
Y. C.
I love Hakkasan♡♡ It is trendy dish when wanna eat dim in fancy mood.
Very fancy😘😘
m. w.
Fabulous food, awesome atmosphere and great 5 ⭐service.
B. V.
High end dim sum in an uber cool setting. Not for the faint hearted this a full on glamorous experience. Food is very good and service attentive, although does lack the wow factor you would associated with Michelin starred food. But most people aren't here for the food.
B. T.
Delicious food, if a little dark. Great for couples and fantastic for corporate entertaining, not really suitable for children. Food and drink is always brilliant and staff friendly and helpful, menu detailed and interesting.
F. D. P.
Great food. Great cocktails. Had a good time
R. D.
Amazing Dim Sum brunch, the truffled specials are sublime. Wonderful front of house folks, plus a ridiculously awesome wine list. We found it difficult to leave!
K. E. (.
Given a very personalised experience where the waiters make you feel very at home. Though very highly priced there can be no complaning about the food, which was excellent. The cod with champagne sauce was exquisite. At times the place felt very dark due to the minimal amount of lighting.
D. T.
Amazing cocktails and food, love the pipa duck, tender and moist with zero fat and crispy skin. Staff couldn't be more helpful.
Normally need to reserve but worth still asking at the door if you haven't.
H. B.
The food we ordered were generally delicious and unique. The place has a dark night club vibe to it and runs at full capacity. Good choice if you fancy a special night out.
D. S.
We ordered the 65 GBP signatures (two of the signatures from the website were not in the menu).
We got lots of dishes, some great and some not... desserts were great.
The place design is nice (too dark).
The service was pretty poor for a Michelin start resutrant.
C. P.
Been to the Hanway place about 3 times plus this time and another time in San Fran. This review is for this visit. We had the mid price dimsum, the eggplants in clay pot, Singaporean noodle, lotus roots and asparagus and Lily bulbs sauteed veg and the pork belly and order of rice. Seasoning was right on and just the right level of saltiness. Vegetables were cooked to the right level of crunch and still retained their freshness. Lemongrass aviantion drink was not on the menu anymore but they were so kind to make 2 for me. Service was speedy and our the staff was very nice to us. We finished in about 1 hour and 45 mins without dessert as we were full. I thought our selection of dishes were great, we had a bit of everything and healthier - not counting the belly. The atmosphere was funny, dark and high ceiling, dark wood and chinese pattern decor with a vibrant beat that reminds me of my club going days.
A. W.
The interior was amazing but the lighting I guess was quite dark for my liking, a good setting though if you're having a drink instead of full meal.
T. N.
Come here a few times with friends and really enjoy the food and vibe. It's very relaxed and staff are attentive. Love the dum sum platter and seabass in honey. We also had a seafood dish with crispy noodles which was so delicious, don't remember what it was called.
Really nice place for special occasions as its definitely on the higher end
O. O.
Really good food. Lovely ambiance. You must try the spicy prawn! You must try everything really. Top spot. Would certainly recommend.
S. M.
The food is packed with flavour and executed extremely well. Service is great and the atmosphere is just right considering it is has a dark ambience. Absolutely love this place, have been twice and will definitely be back again.
D. L.
This is my favourite restaurant. But I knocked them a star today because service was pretty poor. The food, as usual, was outstanding.
O. Q.
Very well established Asian eatery - there are many restaurants out there with a far better standard of cuisine, but none holding on to their fashionable status for so long.
Staff a very efficient and the place is run like well-oiled machine. Interior is dark and 'intimate' (i.e. they pack you in elbow to elbow).
Lots of wealth on display...which can hamper the appetite...
J. X.
LOVE THIS PLACE. Have been here for a few times and every time they wowed me. You must try the truffle duck dish - so good that my partner even finished all the remaining sauces with the jasmine rice.
E. R.
Amazing food great atmosphere. We took a mixed menu for 2 and it was delicious!! All 7 items were flawless. It is was 200 pounds for 2 including drinks. Recommended.
B. W.
We had an interesting vegetarian menu. I really like the coco passion drink. Staff were very attentive, despite the restaurant being very busy. But It was a little noisy.
M. B.
The service was brilliant. The staff were so polite and friendly. Food was good but not good enough for the price. Especially, the fish, I couldn't eat.
C. C. I.
The food here is inexplicably good. A great choice if you're not footing the bill. It's pretty pricey.
The sea bass though. Wow. Worth every penny.
Let me know if you decide to go and if you're able to get someone else to pay, I will come with.
M. J.
Food is well worth the expense. Was very nice
K. J.
Good food and service, the dessert was great. However, personally did not enjoy the dark atmosphere. Paying more for the atmosphere than the food in my opinion.
J. T.
I went to Hakkasan for my birthday meal as we heard a lot of good recommendations. We got the taster menu as it is a lot cheaper than the a la carte.
The dim sum was very good, some of the best I've had.
For the mains, we had four different dishes, all of them were nice and tasty but just weren't as amazing as what you'd expect for the price (except for the ribeye steak, which was extremely tender). The portions were also a bit disappointing, although we were expecting that since we only got the taster menu. The duck was less food than the dim sum.
The staff were very friendly and helpful pointing out dishes containing nuts and they did everything to adapt dishes to cater for special dietary needs.
Overall it is a very nice restaurant, the decor is modern and interesting and they have a very large range of spirits and wines.
T. M. L.
Exceptionally delicious. Chinese cuisine with a twist yet still authentic. Service is excellent in a dimly lit restaurant. One of the best restaurants in London I have visited by far; completely worthy of their Michelin star.
A. K.
Took my wife on a date night and she loved the food and the experience. As I'm writing this review, she has corrected me that it was her birthday and not a date night. Thanks Wifey. Anyway, back to the review, I really enjoyed it and would go again. Venue is suitable for a working meal with clients as well.
N. G.
Great place, great food and awesome service
D. B.
This is a very popular, upscale place, with an impressive menu and some extremely good dishes. I find it overpriced, though, although I guess the regular customers are of the kind that finds it reassuring when a dish is expensive.
On a recent visit with my team I was somewhat disappointed, though: service wasn't particularly friendly (I found it funny and mildly irritating when a French waitress corrected the pronunciation of "Shanghai" to a Chinese member of my team...) and the two massively expensive ducks we ordered resulted in a really meagre amount of meat.
N. G.
Although not an expert in Cantonese cuisine, every dish we tried was excellent. The atmosphere was also great but the difference is made from the kindness and service of the personnel.
B. R.
Hakkasan-sational. Courteous and efficient staff, interesting decor and ambience with lots of attention to detail, and excellent food! The Sunday brunch sets feel like very good value given the venue and quality.
H. P.
I love hakkasan. The food never disappoints. The service was fast and friendly. The only improvement I would suggest is the waiters knowing what the food comes with. I asked if a main dish came with rice and was told it does but when the food came it didnt so had to order it after.
D. B.
Not going to lie, the food is delicious and great quality, the service is excellent (might seem a bit pushy for some people) and the interior design provides mysterious atmosphere. However, from the value point of view, I don't see a reasonable justification for the prices here, another example of veblen goods, which is extremely common in London. I know small high quality places all over London with excellent food and great atmosphere for a much reasonable price.
Putting an extra star just for the fact that the hype around this place attracts very interesting people, and we were sitting right next to Samuel L. Jackson that evening. That was amazing on its own.
F. K. D.
The food was great and tastes good. But as many restaurante now are more occupide in having as many siting as posible during one night, its feel like a fabric Come In, get your table, order, lucky if you get an apretiff before the food arrive. Finish eating...almost no more service exept the waiter are tripping behind you with the bill. Have been there 2 times- think management need to solve issue to the waiters .
k. d.
One of the best meals we had on the trip. The dim-sum was great!
We also ordered the seasonal Chinese New-year menu that had some amazing dishes!
N. B.
Been over there a few time and I have enjoyed it.
Not very expensive for the area
Definitely a good place for a first date.
I'm only giving it 3*'s because every time the background musing was too loud and is very difficult to have an conversation.
Make sure you reserve your table other wise you can sit only at the bar.
A. y.
I been 3 times and the last time was about 8 years ago but it has been delicious everytime. The strawberry & basil cocktail is yummy. I don't know anyone who doesn't enjoy the food here. I look forward to my next visit.
V. W.
Finest Chinese restaurant in my opinion. The place is perfect of you want to have dinner for two - the tables are perfectly sized, with comfortable chairs. We were here last week with my wife and we got the best service possible - the staff was attending and polite. We're going back for sure.
S. D.
My experience of Hakkasan leaves me feeling I've eaten well but in a noisy, impersonal restaurant with poor service.
We were greeted by a member of staff at the street level entrance who did no more than take my name and point (down the stairs). No welcome at all.
Once seated (by courteous staff) and given menus the wait for a drinks order to be taken was becoming uncomfortable.
Eventually when the food was at our table it was a very good Chinese meal. However, whether it is worth the money charged, is extremely debatable.
All in all, I feel this is a restaurant for a young, affluent crowd who are happy to spend an evening drinking with good food and talking at the tops of their voices to be heard.
m. b.
Food great. Table for 2. Service charge too high at 13.5 % and questioned repeatedly when refusing it. Even tho is supposedly discretionary. Left £10.00 as tip.
S. S.
Good food, fancy spot
S. G.
Excellent, in so many ways. This place would be well suited on a skull shaped island...its like entering the elaborate cave of an evil genius. The food is excellent, with set menus to cater for all tastes and budgets. You can lunch here from as little as £35ish to over £100 per person. Go and enjoy.
B. H.
We just had cocktails to celebrate my sisters 60th. Alex served us (and another barman (sorry I have forgotten your name:( ). They were amazing cocktail choice was fabulous. My daughter asked for a vodka based refreshing cocktail. Alex made it and it was truly gorgeous. They are so helpful and even the welcoming staff so friendly put you at ease straight away. We will be back for sure
S. H.
Great vibe, food was amazing even though they forgot some dishes we ordered. Deserts were ok, and coffee was average. All in all, a really good experience.
H. L.
I went to Hakkasan with my girlfriend about a year ago, on a voucher deal that made the experience a little more affordable.
The food was tasty, but I honestly wouldn't have rated it with a Michelin star - it didn't really feel particularly innovative, and whilst the execution was excellent, I didn't really get a huge wow factor, especially when it came to my girlfriend's desert, which she felt was a bit of a let-down.
The service was good on the day, but booking issues in the run-up did spoil this slightly, with my initial reservation being apparently 'missed off the list', causing a spate of slightly stressed phone calls when I explained that I didn't really want to change the date of my reservation, especially as I had arranged to be in London partly for the occasion.
All in all, my summary would be that the food is excellent executed, if somewhat lacking in the wow-factor that I would normally associate with a restaurant of its standing, and that for a voucher price I would happily go again, but I can't ever imagine paying the full A La Carte prices.
A. V.
Great food and atmosphere for groups. Expensive but worth it on occasions. Remembered after we left that we didn’t receive the prawn crackers that we asked for for starters. Wasn’t charged for it though so not a big deal.
T. C.
Hosted a group of 60 people for a last minute event. The staff was fantastic as was the food / overall experience. I really love Hakkasan for a smaller group, but if you ever need to host a big party you should really consider this venue!!
m.
My favorite restaurant for a special occasion. Expensive, but worth it. At Hakkasan, you get what you pay for. The mood, lighting, music & food all make it an unforgettable dinner.
The Hakkasan take on Chicken Satay is a wonderful updated variation to the standard satay you get normally; The roasted chicken is soft and juicy while the skin is amazingly crispy & flavoursome, topped off with a delicious satay sauce.
The black pepper rib eye is always perfectly cooked; tender & tasty.
Starters of beef ribs & grilled dumpling always go down a treat.
Hakkasan is a must-visit restaurant for fans of quality Chinese food.
B. C.
A good alternative to the Mayfair restaurant. In an unlikely setting behind Tottenham Court road but once you're in its very cavernous underground setting you soon forget where you are. Reservations are highly recommended as it gets pretty busy and then there's a tendency to rush you after an hour and a half. If you have the luxury of going off-site peak you will have a more relaxed time. Good is exceptionally good.

Last minute decision to do #DimSumSundays which comprise: Cocktail to start, half of a bottle of Louis Roderer champagne each. Dim sums, stir fries, the best fried rice I've had in a very long time, scrumptious dessert (mine was anyway) and a strong cocktail to finish. I really enjoyed the whole experience and luckily we went around 6pm so it wasn't too crowded and we had sufficient time to digest but a couple of issues: we decided to have mocktails for starters - too sweet, it does need the alcoholic element to make it more palatable! The dim sums looked great and had the right textures but it lacked distinct flavours which is generally difficult to achieve when it's full vegetarian! Can't fault the stir fries & the fried rice BUT the waitress tipped over a glass of champagne all over the table onto the asparagus shoots, shattered glass and champagne everywhere. She apologised profusely, cleaned everything up, we got a new plate of asparagus shoots (delish and super duper fresh) but there was no discount off our bill or an extra glass of champagne. Not that we needed it but it would have been something I would have expected from that incident in that establishment. I had the lemon & sesame dessert to finish which I thought wouldn't be very good but it was soooooo yummy! It had different textures of meringue. The lemon super citrusy tempered by other elements - the sesame added a slightly nutty, earthy element. Really great! My companion had the macaron selection which I thought was ok. Our cocktails with alcohol that is paired with our desserts were really great to finish. This is a pretty big meal and it's served as a pair so you can't have one veggie and one meat - go hungry!

Fantastic food and very good service. Overall a lovely experience ☺
M. B.
Extraordinary good restaurant- interior is very well chosen and gives you a private feeling. Food is on Top. Service perfect. From the outside you hardly recognize it as a restaurant- well hidden in a dark alley...
P. M.
Very professional front of house. Food was fantastic. The attention to detail in this place always impresses me. Went 4 year ago so needed a revisit. Has not lost anything. Very slick. Recommended
B. E.
Great dining experience. The ambience is awesome, and the cocktails too, but I find most of the food is nice but not so good for the prices. I have not tried the most expensive of the dishes, too much for me.
T. R.
Food was nice and ambience was lovely. Only downside is I feel like not all guests were treated equally as we saw our waiter being very attentive to other tables, putting the napkins on their laps however we did not receive this same treatment.

Pools of light and shadow decor dominates the experience. Menu mysteries include varying sizes of dishes and a swathe of basics (rice, noodles) that they don't bother to list and you have to ask the waiter for. Still a great treat, particularly if you start with super cocktails at the bar first

Amazing food, drinks and especially service. Portion sizes are fair and there have not been any bad dishes do far after a few years. Hope this helps!

Delicious vegetarian dim sum and pumpkin tofu.

First time here and was not disappointed at all. Superb service with fantastic food. The Rose Gold cocktail is to die for

Start to finish a great experience, welcomed in and sharply brought to our tables with no delay except for the offer of a drink at the bar if we wished. Once sat, quickly served but without interference with our chats (there was 4 of us!).
Waiters were knowledgable about food and most surprisingly able to accurately describe and recommend wines from memory which is something I didn't expect, this being one of the cheaper michelin star restaurants.
The food is obviously to peoples taste but I can't rate it highly enough, probably the best chinese food I've ever had and I go back regularly when guests come to visit.

Great food, good servise. Go for the sinature menu set!

The food and service was outstanding, but their ambiance is very dark, heavily incensed, and drumming with bass-boosted pop. I felt like I was eating fine dining in an Abercrombie & Fitch.

Really enjoyed the dumplings, cocktails and venue. But we weren't blown away by the mains. Overall good experience but they certainly make you pay for it.

I would recommend this place for everyone. Hidden away in a dark alley with staff greeting you before you enter the cellar and a brand new world. The asian fusion food is epic. I have grown really fond of the concept and Hakkasan (as well as Buddakhan in N.Y.) are so far the best places I have been to.
I recommend that you reserve a table in advance.

Great Chinese food, everything we ordered was tasty. Restaurant is quite dark and made it difficult to see what I was eating. It also seemed to have too many staff walking around though.

Had dinner there on a Monday. The staff is very friendly and know the dishes and give recommendations. The soft shell crab is one of the best meals I have ever had.

This is my first try of a michelin-starred Cantonese dim-sum restaurant, and it did pass my approval because the dim-sum was as good as the best I've had in Hong Kong and China.
The quality of the shrimp dumpling especially, which for me is the best way to judge the quality of dim-sum ingredients, was incredible with its translucent skin and natural texture. The white bread of the barbecue pork bun was soft and light.
Even though the prices are exorbitant because you can pay 1/4 of the price for the same quality in China, in London this will the best it gets for quality dim-sum along with a great atmosphere.

I had a fab experience in the private dining room with my clients - with amazing amazing service. However went back as a table of 2 and didn’t get the same service which was a shame. I would go back again however, the duck salad was ridiculously good.

we really enjoy this place. the chinese inspired fusion cuisine is on a very high level and never really disappoints. we particularly liked the dumplings, duck spring rolls, and sea bass in chinese honey. the wine list offers a wide selection of fairly priced bottles. the decor is a bit dark but still enjoyable. the waiters make an extra effort to please. hakkasan is on our favorite list.

If you have not been to Hakkasan in Hanway place just off Oxford Street, I would not want to spoil the surprise. I will just say that it is in my top 5 restaurants and number 1 for Chinese / Cantonese cuisine in London. Go and see for yourself. Lunch can be great value.

Excellent meal, great food. Service tapered off after mid way through our set menu and we felt slightly abandoned for a while. Everything else was excellent

Fantastic food, one of the best Chinese restaurant in town, specifically for main course. Highly recommend the truffle roast duck! Crispy skin, tender meat and no fiddly bones.

Hakkasan delivers as expected but leaves one with an odd feeling, as the menu, decor and even perfume of the restaurant is exactly the same as the other venues. The originality is lost in the process and that's a shame. Food-wise, it is at a decent level.

Amazing food, if you like dim sum its a place for you.

Took my lady here for her birthday. She thoroughly enjoyed it and the dim sum was incredible. For the service and food quality the price is good.

Pricey Chinese food which has been tweaked a little to suit Western tastebuds. There are more affordable Chinese restaurants elsewhere with just as good quality cooking. I think Hakkasan is living off the reputation it garnered with its Michelin star, but it may not deserve to keep it for long.

Don't get me wrong. I might as well have given this place 4 stars, but it is more on the expensive side, and though the service levels were one of the best I have come across in London, I would rather stick to 3 stars for now.
I had gone there with a friend of mine. The entry to the place is from a sci-fi movie, with red lights along the stairs which lead you to the restaurant in the basement. In fact, the girls at the reception also look a tad weird, wearing bright red dresses befitting a sci-fi movie (or Austin Powers, whatever rocks your boat). We were promtly shown to our table, which was in the middle of the restaurant. The ambience of this place is nice, though it is a bit too noisy to be classified as 'fine dining'. Our waitress was ultra-sweet and helpful. We ordered some drinks (wine for me and a rose champagne for my friend). The wine was probably the worst alcoholic drink I have ever had. It was some Spanish wine, and tasted worse than a medicine. Much worse. Thank heavens the quantity wasn't much, as I don't usually leave alcohol on the table. ;) We ordered 2 starters - duck rolls and dim sums, and both were good, specially the duck rolls. For the mains, we had egg fried rice and fried duck chops. The food overall was good (again, not great), but the quantities could have been a bit more for the price they were charging. For desserts, my friend had a red champagne (heavenly!) and I had chocolate ecstacy (or something along those lines). And once again, hats off to the service. It was far superior to the other Michelin starred restaurants I have been to in London.
The bill came to around 50 pounds per person, which I think is a lot, as my hunger was satiated, but just about. Overall, a good restaurant. Would I go there again? Nope, don't think so. Would I recommend it to someone, I probably would.

Not value for money
Out of the 5 main course
Only prawns were good
Desert was also just ok
The service was pretty slow . We had to wait both for the food to come and then for bill to come .
Would recommend for such prices

Service was lovely and food was great, shame they couldn't cater a halal option even though we called in advance.

Always good Asian food, good service! Nice atmosphere. Never disappointed. Just pity you don't have prawns dumplings.

We went here for a work lunch, and had a fantastic time!
First off, it must be said that on approach of this restaurant down some random alley way off Oxford Street, we were not sure what to expect. My colleagues were asking if I had got the address right. I did not lose faith however, and felt relived when I saw the sign.
Descending the staircase, we were greeted with a smiling face and shown to our table quickly. The lighting was dim, but the surroundings were exquisite. The adjacent bar was both intimidating and beautiful, and it was a pleasure perusing the menus in its presence.
To start with, we ordered cocktails. My drink was creamy and rich, a perfect start.
We went for the Taste of Hakkasan menu, which is amazing value. A filling meal for only £28pp. We added to it with a few dishes from the Dim Sum menu - including the moreish baked venison puffs
The starter was the Dim Sum platter - scallop shumai, har gau, Chinese chive dumpling and shimeji dumpling. I loved the scallop shumai and Chinese chive dumpling - and found the other two dishes tantalising enough to excite me for the main course.
The main event - consisting of Black pepper rib eye beef with merlot, Spicy prawn with lily bulb and almond, Grilled Chilean sea bass with honey and Pipa duck did not disappoint. The beef in particular, was the highlight of my meal. Peppery, rich, tender and addictive. I could eat that beef with the cloud ear vegetables for every meal. The Chilean sea bass was tangy and sweet, and the duck was very good. The prawn however didn't have much spice to it - it was juicy, but virtually flavourless. But overall, the main course was a success.
I would definitely recommend you visit Hakkasan if you fancy a treat. Try the great value Taste of Hakkasan menu when you can!

Amazing, food was fantastic and service was immaculate. Good choice of food and drinks. Was there was a large party, and we were well catered for. Excellent venue for a party or intimate evening.

I got 38 pound meal pre fix here. Far from being most expensive was very very good. I also ordered duck in addition to it and it was probably the best I've had. Highly recommend drink called hakka if I'm not mistaken.

Michelin standard
It's very rare to encounter an experience like this. The well prepared and tasty food, the way it's presented and served, and the kind and extremely service minded staff to fulfill your slightest wish... immediately.
Prices from £ 20 to 350.

Excellent restaurant and atmosphere.

Unfortunately we didnt get seen to for 45 mins and then we were hurried out before being able to finish our drinks.. not particularly friendly service.. The food was ok, the staff are rushed of their feet.. it isnt worth the money.

it was my first day to touch down at London. While wondered around for Chinese Restaurant to grab some lunch, I stumbled this restaurant. Luckily there still a table available for us.
I am considered very peticular about chinese food taste, especially the freshness of the meat and vegetables not forgetting the mixture of sauces they used to cook all the dishes.
For all the dishes that we ordered, which cover sweet sour pork, lemon grass chicken ( if not mistakenly), seafood mapo tofu, and another 4 more dishes (kinda forget the name); all of it exceptionally delicious. Except for the mapo tofu, the tofu was not up to the standard (just the tofu) the seafood was fresh.
Coming back again for sure!

If you're disappointed by Hakkasan, it's only because you can't take a doggie bag filled with leftovers. The food is phenomenal and beyond that the food presentation is beautiful. It's not economical, but you don't eat here to be economical. You eat at Hakkasan to celebrate and indulge.

Amazing and unique restaurant! The atmosphere is exceptional, the staff is very professional and friendly, the food and cocktails are awesome! Such an amazing experience...definitely going back again! Love it!!

Nice but noisy with the loud music

Reliable, delicious, inventive food. Extensive menu offers plenty for non meat eaters too. Recommend the fried aubergine - delicious! Service is very attentive.

This is not your standard Chinese restaurant you would find in China town. This place is cool and lively. The food here is amazing and I can see why they have still kept their michelin star after all these years. Reservation is recommended. The Chilean seabass in honey is highly recommended along with the beef in merlot and spicy prawns.
