Reviews of St Wystan's Church, Repton

Beautiful church. Crypt was so atmospheric. I understood there were Viking graves nearby and couldn't find them sadly

This is such a beautiful church, set in lovely surroundings and so peaceful, full of history, dating back to the Anglo Saxon's.

Old capital of saxon kingdom of Mercia, good place to visit if you are (or not) into our history.

Feel the heavy hand of history on your shoulder. The crypt is a must see for anyone interested in Anglo-Saxon history.

Great wedding, but was smaller than I thought it would have been, but still was a great wedding.

The ancient burial place of the Kings of Mercia in the crypt beneath the chancel. Large parts of the upper Anglo-Saxon Church also remain.
J. S.
Kings of Mercia buried here before the Vikings came and smashed everything up. The church survived.
Its well worth a visit to the crypt, recently restored.
This was an old pilgrim site, archeologically excavated with artefacts in Derby museum and London Museum of History.

Lovely church. With a crypt that can be viewed sometimes.

Great place. I had some free time while parked nearby. The crypt being the best feature.

On two or three occasions I have played in Christmas concerts in this beautiful ancient church. On a dark, cold December afternoon the atmosphere in the church is everything you'd want for a heart warming carol concert and the acoustic (for choir and brass quintet at least) is excellent for both musicians and audience. Well worth a visit at any time of year, and make sure to visit the crypt.

Magic only visited the Cemetery but l will be back.

Absolutely fascinating Royal Saxon crypt

Saxons with some signs of Romans too. Every age has left its mark - including past generations of schoolchildren in the form of graffiti. The crypt is worth a visit - take a torch if you can as it's quite dark inside and you may want to look at the details of columns there. Free car parking spaces outside the front of the church.

We went to St wystan's church after seeing a programme on television about the lost Viking army . On the program they showed the crypt of St wystan's church. I was so impressed I had to visit. It was well worth the effort a fantastic preserved Anglo-Saxon crypt.
