Reviews of Chapel of Saint Albert the Great

modern Catholic chapel, beautiful and peaceful altar with natural garden background.
the entrance is small and if you trying to access from the george square, the door has no mark as a chapel entry. (my impression is the chapel is not attracting people to come, kinda exclusive, but I might wrong assumed this), actually they are open for everybody to come and find sanctuary/ peace.

It is a beautiful (Modern) church. For those interested in modern architecture it’s a most. On the religious side it is a Catholic Church with services everyday.

The Chapel of St Albert the Great in Edinburgh stands in a garden of one of the Georgian houses of George Square, between the University and the Meadows.
In 1931, the house was purchase by Dominican Friars to act as Catholic chaplains for the university. The garden chapel was built in 2012 by Simpson and Brown when the house itself became to small for the numbers attending.
It is a simple construction, largely glass and oak with small amounts of stone and steel. The east end leads into the garden and a stand of trees. The trees were planted by David Scott Moncrieff, the owner of the house, in 1879 when the Royal Infirmary opened across road.
The oak slats of the ceiling let through plenty of light, as do the angled apertures in the wall, giving the space a sense of openness.
The garden is a important aspect of the chapel. There are around 150 species in the raised bed, mostly herbs and medicinal plants, many of which St Albert the Great wrote about in his 14th century commentary on Aristotle.

One of the best modern chaplain I’ve ever been in. It doesn’t seem like it’s in just in front of the most modern quarter of the city. It’s a place where you can be quiet, without any stress.

Highly recommend!!! Small parish but great community. Serve and support wider community. There are different support groups for students from various uni and family mass on Sunday and also children's Sunday class. Beauty of the chapel is integrated with nature.

An amazing church from the architectural point of view. Run by the Dominicans. Also the university chaplaincy I believe. For more information visit their website.

Beautiful little chapel, it was really easy to book a timeslot and the service was quick

A very welcoming place. This is the chaplaincy for the university students, but you will find people of all ages. Very open minded atmosphere. Interesting sermons which often resemble lectures. Not surprising, the Dominicans who run the people are all academics.
