Reviews of Glasgow St Mary's R C Church
This is where Glasgow Celtic FC were formed to feed the poor of the east end of Glasgow. Also site of Glasgow’s monument to the Great Hunger which saw so many starving people leave Ireland to start new lives around the world, including the west of Scotland. Often hosts events that commemorate Celtic FC or are associated with past footballers eg funerals. A place every Celtic fan should visit multiple times.
Very beautiful church.
Attended Sunday mass today I.e. 24th November 2019
Now I'm going to say this if it offends well there wont be an apology,I have been in here and it is beautiful inside, the architecture is something to see,I also have been in prodistant church and also beautiful inside,I also have been in synagogues, I have been in Sikh temples, and Pakistani mosques,if we took time out from what we do in our lives,to go and see these fantastic buildings instead of being bitter towards one another, the world would be a better place with more understanding of each other.the doors of these places are always open, and you will feel welcome.
This is a beautiful church and the priest was exceptional he was covering my uncles funeral and the church itself has a lot of our family history in it. It was built by the people from Calton area where they all bought a brick in order to get it built it was where Glasgow Celtic began and a lot of the players used to go there.
Lovely to be back at St Mary's today for Mass. remember going many times with my Mum. Hope everyone has a great Easter.
Wonderful building with long 175-year history as well as continuing to be a lovely place of worship. Was the original No.2 church and is a cathedral in all but name.
