We belong to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Glasgow. We are situated about 12 miles north-east of Glasgow, in the central belt of Scotland.
The parish was founded in 1973 and the Church opened in 1976, serving the satellite housing estate of Abronhill. We hope the website will be of interest and benefit to present and prospective parishioners, and to anyone who is visiting the area or just curious.
Parish Provision
The news of Father Joe’s transfer to Saint Brendan’s in Yoker, has understandably unnerved all of us. As a Diocese we are running out of priests, and the scenario where parishes share a priest will soon be commonplace. This is new territory for all of us, but we will endeavour to grow each parishes unique identity and to bring our communities together when that is best and enriching for both parishes. On Monday last, Father Joe, the chairmen of both Parish Pastoral Councils( John Mc Kenna Saint Lucy’s & Bill Cunningham Sacred Heart) and myself met to try to map out, in the short term, a way forward. There will be another priest coming to assist, hopefully before Christmas. Until then, the Mill Hill Fathers and Mgr Pat Osbourne will celebrate the 6.00pm Vigil in Saint Lucy’s and the 11.00am Mass in Saint Lucy’s. After 18th September Daily Mass in Saint Lucy’s will be 9.15am on Tuesday & Friday only. Sacred Heart at 10.00am. All of these Mass times, in both parishes may be subject to change, in October. Change is never easy for any of us, we would all like things to stay as they are but they cannot. If we embrace change in the right spirit we can turn it into an opportunity for the enrichment and development of both parish families; the one family of God.
