Reviews of St Silas Church
W. D.
This is an excellent church where the good news about Jesus is preached faithfully from the bible, and they use liturgy but not in a stuffy or dry manner. The preaching shows what a passage from the bible means and how it is relevant to us today. It's really beneficial, because they don't sugar coat the problem of being a helpless sinner, but they will make it clear what God has done for helpless sinners, and preach grace and hope and forgiveness. It's not those vague, self help stories that use God as a convenient jumping-off point for a rambling message that's nothing more than a series of "hallmark" sentimental quotes. They won't encourage you to believe in yourself, but will encourage you to trust Jesus.
In the services, they explain what is going on, when to stand and sit etc, and if you just want to observe from the back, you can without feeling awkward. The minister is a good communicator and will make you feel welcome and at ease, as will the friendly congregation. You can chat and ask questions, and you don't have to be a Christian to attend, all guests are welcome.
There are around 250 at the morning service which has a more family-based focus, and currently around 50 in the evenings. There are a variety of age groups from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
If you're new, you can tell the person who welcomes you and they can answer any questions you have, (arrive a little earlier if you have questions, or chat to people afterwards over tea and coffee).
The church has a lot of activities including parent toddler groups, counselling, prayer, student ministry, international student cafe and other things too. The music is led by a band with drums but it's not too loud and the singing is good.

In my experience (attending for 5 years) the people of St Silas church are a wonderfully friendly bunch. Bible focussed, Jesus centred, St Silas is an exciting church to be a part of for Christians of all ages, and a great place to come to seek God, discover truth, and find meaning and life through Jesus. Come along!

I have been attending services at St Silas since I moved to Glasgow two years ago. I love the teachings and Bible studies we have which help you to grow as a Christian. The hospitality of members of the church is so amazing. There is a great team which runs the international students cafe which provides support for international students to learn about Jesus, practice English and learn about different cultures. All these and others make me feel part of God's family.

Great church to visit or be a part of the family. Welcoming atmosphere, bold in the teaching of God's word and an organically diverse group of people

There's no such thing as a perfect church. We are all children needing to be set free from our mistakes and welcomed into the arms of a parent.

People here are very friendly and regularly host events for International students: movie nights, bible study, traditional dinners, craft nights , trips etc
