Bigger isn’t always better!
I’m still looking for my spiritual home in Liverpool since my move from Southampton and to be honest, for various reasons, I’m taking my time! When looking at Google maps for churches near me, I couldn’t get this small church out of my mind and would be drawn to it every time!
The building is lovely, even if some would say old and traditional… But I liked it very much – these old buildings were built with a vision in mind and have, even today, real meaning. As I entered the building, I could feel a special warmth in the atmosphere, even the smell of the building had something about it. There was no one at the outside door or in the foyer and I was faced with two doors leading into the main church hall. I quietly sat down in a traditional pew and got myself ready for the service to start. I received a warm and polite welcome from a few people.
The service was good and it was great to have a few of the hymns and older contemporary songs sung. There were around 20 or so people there, but you could see and feel how genuine and faithful they all are!
The bible teaching was simple but true and genuine – isn’t the Gospel meant to be simple anyway? I feel strongly that we try to overcomplicate things in this age! It was also nice to get a welcome from the front of the church. A handful of people talked to me after the meeting and I found everyone warm and welcoming! This place reminded me so much of the North Wraxall Congregational Chapel that I used to visit and help back in the 1980s. I left that build with a special feeling inside – definitely quality over quantity!
This is a true and honest review about how I felt today. I will definitely come back, as I always visit a church at least twice when looking for a new spiritual home.
