The most serene place in Wimbledon! Stunning temple, beautiful grounds and it even has its own car park at the back. We'll worth a visit any time of the year.

Such peace and tranquility in this south-west London suburb. Frescos in the Temple are amazing and I loved the way current images were mixed with age-old images. The artist/s are amazing.

I never knew such a place existed in Wimbledon London. Being a Buddhist myself I stumbled upon this place on Google. And decided I wanted to visit ( its the closest I get to Thailand) but the reason for my visit. Was to do film photography and walk around the grounds. Its just so beautiful and mesmerising too look at and walk around. You have to pre book if you want to be blessed by the monk. My blessing was for my 2 year sobriety. And I wanted to mark it in a special spiritual way. The experience with the monk and the blessing & the chants to blessing the bracelet he gave me to blessing me. It was powerful I can't describe it. I think its different for everyone who gets blessed by the said monk. You can give a donation of money or fruit or veg etc. I was very welcomed and the monk ( the one I met ) was absolutely brilliant. We had a few mins talk after my blessing. And it was really nice. The temple itself is stunning. And you go in there and meditate and and have some inner peace. You can't take photos or film in the temple as its sacred. I would recommend anyone to visit. And you don't have to be a buddhist or spiritual. 5 stars 🌟 from me.
Namaste 🙏📿

Lovely Thai temple. It indeed made me feel I’m in Thailand but for the weather. There’s a Thai school next to temple and you can even see the student’s composition in the show window.

Best temple ever! Every time I go to Buddhapadipa temple, I always feel calm and good. I love the breeze and plants there as well as the buildings.

If you are interested in Buddhist philosophy and contemporary art you won't be disappointed by this Temple. Its interior walls have been decorated by the same artist who created Chiang Rai's white temple mixing classic icons with today's icons, from Buddha to superman, from Margaret Thatcher to saddam. Artistic views from Van Gogh to Da Vinci and Michelangelo.
The peaceful atmosphere and the availability of monks there makes it a must visit

Absolutely love this place. An oasis of calm in a busy part of London. You would not know at all where you are. Beautiful temple. Nice space for meditation or Co templation. Nice gardens to walk around with streams and a lake. Can also go inside the monastry. Everyone is so friendly. Love it.

Buddhapadipa Temple Wimbledon, A place that makes you feel happy.
We visited this temple and were blessed with wonderful weather, which made this stunning Tai style temple fill your senses to the maximum.
Visiting on a Sunday there is a service their which gets the Buddhist community together, they in turn welcome those who go.
We were offered free drinks and the people were just so happy and lovely. This is a place where the religious aura just lifted you and made you feel so spiritually aware.
The temple itself was just so brightly coloured and the gold just shone like a beacon. The contrast of the white just finished it off.
The scent of the incense sticks burning and the sound of laughing children and happy adults was just inspiring and uplifting. In all this there was total peace inside, time to reflect and even meditate inside the temple.
They have many events and wonderful ceremonies it is worth checking before you go. Tucked down a side-street it is a hidden gem in Wimbledon.

This is the best Thai temple in the UK. It is definitely peaceful place also good for meditations. You can also feel kindness of Thai people here as well. When there is a big event or Buddha day, you can also see Thai tradition that they always do in Thailand.
I would recommend if you would like to see how is the Thai tradition look like in the UK.

It is an interesting and beautiful place to visit if you are interested in Buddhism. There are plenty of quiet places to meditate. There is a beautiful main building to view with thai murals inside! There is a Sunday school for Thai children who were born in England to come and learn Thai language and culture!
O. L.

Wonderful place. Worth the visit and walk there.
M. H.
Beautiful building & grounds. Too many of us on Multi-Faith Pilgrimage for Peace to fit comfortably for talk & meditation in Temple but great setting for lunch provided by Sikh group. Was pleasantly surprised to see a Heron land on roof of the house while Mallards quacked on pond.
J. W.
Well kept Thai temple and environs. Tranquil gardens - worth spending an afternoon here. Do check out their website for temple festivals held twice a year when they will host Thai foodstalls in the temple grounds. During weekends they run religious classes. Sunday sermons held in the main temple

The gardens and the temple invite you to meditate. Quiet and nice atmosphere. You will be requested to remove the shoes, and to leave them outside. Inside there is a nice and worm carpet. Totally worthy going there for some spiritual time or just to admire complex.

The most peaceful place in the busiest location. 20 minutes away from Wimbledon village on bus route 93 and a short walk from the Calonne road bus stop. Main temple is opened on weekends only.

A wonderful calm temple. . Beautiful art work covers every spit spot of walls and ceilings inside temple .. De pithead 8 miracles of Buddha. Doing chanting and meditation class inside the temple under guidance of the monk and another facilitator was truly a pleasent experience. No photos allowed inside but have postcards of each wall art work to buy for only 50p or £1. The grounds a serene and lovely to walk around quietly..
g.
Excellent place for relaxing and for meditation!
J. J.
Absolutely stunning temple tucked away in Wimbledon. Open to visitors, although I have only visited as part of school groups. Both times I have been, we have had one of the monks give us a talk. The monk this year was very interesting. The monks have a strict schedule so it is important to be on time for any talks. The grounds are also lovely to walk around.
R. V.
It`s a hidden gem. Locate on Wimbledon Hill on a quiet road - The BuddhapadipaTemple is an `island of peace`. It`s so quiet, beautiful & in synergy with nature. The building from both inside and outside looks stunning. The park that belongs to it is a masterpiece and perfect for short walks, relaxing and enjoying the peace being not so far from the noise of the city.
J. C.
Such a beautiful place and such an unexpected find in this location.
A. L.
Seems like it’s still close to the general public. I would love to visit and see inside

R. M.
Very peaceful place. I felt like I could visit there respectfully even though I knew very little about the religion. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained and after visiting I plan on going again for a teaching session. Make sure you take it slowly walking around the grounds and read all the chunks of wisdom they have written along the paths
J. H.
Beautiful and peaceful, relaxing
A. B.
It's a very beautiful place !
People are welcoming !
R. W.
Stunning. My favourite place in the world!
S. L.
This peaceful and stunning Temple was built in 1980, using traditional Thai architecture, for the purpose of teaching Theravada Buddhism and it is one of only two Buddhist Temples outside Asia.
The interior walls have excellent mural paintings by Thai artists, depicting aspects of the Buddha's life.
Most Theravada Buddhist monks have shaved heads and wear saffron or maroon robes like the ones you will meet here.
An unexpected gem in an unexpected London!
N. K.
Absolutely beautiful peaceful place to visit a true definition of hidden gem. You can spend hours here just relaxing enjoying the stunning artwork on the walls that all tells a story, walking the tranquil gardens reading the little nuggets of wisdom placed all around to find, definitely worth a visit I’d recommend x

Came here for the Loy Krathong festival. Very surreal experience but Thai people are extremely friendly. Lots of delicious food on offer.
Beauty pageant was quite intense, the rush to give the girls flowers was something I won't forget.
Would definitely go along again next time.
H. T.
Blissful place to relax and unwind in. Open to everyone.
B. J.
A wonderful experience in this friendly Temple. They made us feel very welcome and very much part of the Thai culture. Tea coffee biscuits were all part of the belonging. A must to visit.

Absolutely amazing Thai Buddhist Temple surrounded by a little park with a pond. Relaxing and calm atmosphere. They have weekend meditations groups and other courses and retreats.
Currently it is under renovation.
Located far away from main noisy streets.
B. W.
I first came to this temple over sixty years ago. The incumbent abbot was an impressive person and it was he who introduced me to mindfulness and Vipassana meditation. I want every visitor to know that they are in a place that can affect their lives for the good.
Learn to meditate and be happy.
H. G.
It is a nice place to go and meditate but the language over there is not nice, I was studying there when I was 8 years old but left 9 the school because I was being bullied because I have got autism and I was a big fan of Harry Potter, and the teacher saw what was going on but just didn't bother to help. So my mum came into the classroom and pulled me out, I now go to Christian churches occasionally.
D. S. (.
This Thai Buddhist Temple has been a secret part of London community for many decades. It is a special place where Thai communities come together. There are two main festivals annually, one in mid April for the Thai New year, another is Thai Lunar Festival in November. Everyone is welcome. Please visit Temple website for more information.
C. S.
Wat Buddhapadipa in Wimbledon is a beautiful Thai Buddhist temple which is open to respectful visitors from the wider general public.
Well worth visiting to learn a little about the Buddhist faith and to the view the beautiful temple + well maintained gardens. The place is very peaceful and calming.
K. Y.
A Siamese Buddhist temple that reminds me of home. The temple is in Thai type architeture, richly decorated. The temple is located within its own ground, on a residential street, close to Wimbledon Common. A quite and serene place to meditate, pray and contemplate. There is a main house with its own shrine and you will normally find the monks or volunteers there.
C. R.
Fantastic temple - an oasis of serenity and calm. Gorgeous decor on the walls. You feel transported to a different, peaceful world far away from the hustle and bustle of London! A must visit!!
D. E. (.
Small but gorgeous. The details of the paintings inside are worth coming to see. Don't miss the little sanctuary in the forest either.
D. H.
Calm, relaxing and lavishly adorned with flowers. An interesting place to dive into hindu culture and yet to find peace ✌️. It is an operating temple.
j. h.
The temple is very beautiful and the ornaments on the roof and windows are extremely detailed – so gorgeous! High trees surround it and this makes you feel so peaceful and connected to nature.
T. A.
Amazing Thai temple, monks are very helpfully, eventhogh it was closed open the temple for us, many thanks blessings to you.

Quiet and nice place.

I visited on the wrong day, the weather was freezing cold, with snow flurries, work was going on in the grounds, and the Temple itself was closed. I was able to get a feel of the ornate decoration, by looking through the window, but I must return another day to upgrade my marking .
L. G.
Its was so peaceful and u managed to sit at the temple and meditate. Very friendly and the food was fresh and delicious. I always contribute to the temple. A little palce for peace and tranqulity
C. A.
I really liked this place, very peaceful to walk around and it is well preserved. Definitely a place to visit if you want to find stillness in busy London.
D. J.
If you're a Thai buddist stuck in the UK with no way to get home, then this is the place for you! There are no cats, the weather is cold like the rest of this dreary country, but otherwise it is quite like a chunk of thailand. If you can imagine a small temple in a forest in the north of Thailand in the cold season, I think that is not far off the mark. Sometimes they have festivals with lots of very tasty food. Sometimes a neighbourhood cat jumps over the wall and it's just perfect.
J. C.
Stunningly beautiful and the biggest Temple in Europe. Very welcoming and inclusive, lots of parking, plenty of garden space, and very hospitable. Everyone welcome

That's an extraordinary place of the capital. Yes, it is about the actual temple which proves that teleportation is real but the main surprise is the area its built to, lost somewhere between beautiful Wimbledon houses
G.
Beautiful gardens and temple, welcome to all. Great spot to meditate. Has info on Buddhism and retreats
M. F.
The most gorgeous thing is the gorgeous murals all around. Especially that image depicting Buddha in his last years was so intricate with all the detailing of his frail body with rib cage jutting out!

Why is it labelled in cyrillic on my Google Map? I'm in England. It's in England. Thailand is not yet in in Russia AFAIK. Further, I believe thathe land was donated by the former Judge Christmas Humphreys a prominent English Buddhist, whose former residence stood there.
A. P.

(Translated) A very interesting place. It is a small Buddhist temple with impressive paintings. It's worth a look at the paintings in detail, and you'll see characters like Charles Chaplin or a punk, and even a plane and a space rocket.
You must go barefoot and cannot take pictures.
The immediate environment is a bit left.
(Original)

(Translated) A pleasant place to retreat to escape the stressful city. You can enter for free and you can visit both the park and the interior of the temple (you have to take off your shoes though!)
You can savor the Buddhist peace and their rituals as in the park there are pleasant surprises scattered here and there.
Not 5 stars because the park could be a little better maintained
(Original)
