Reviews of Finnish Church in London

Visited for the Christmas Market. Friendly Finnish folk, nice food, weird schnapps, lovely community vibe. Probably also good for your Lutheran spiritual needs!
L. T.
Lovely Finnish Christmas Market. Only takes about 30 minutes to walk through but they have live music and a lovely cafe where you can sit and chat.
A. Z.
Great place to stay on Canary Wharf! Friendly staff, rooms are clean and modern! They even brought us breakfast! We will definitely be returning when we are in London again.
D. F.
Love the people here... even when I am not Finnish they always make me feel at home and super welcome
I. L.
The Christmas market is great, although it gets extraordinarily busy. There is great food and drink available from the cafe and so much on offer, it’s hard to not get into the Christmas spirit after visiting.
Voluntary donation of £1 on the door and some space for buggies (there isn’t enough space to take them round with you at all).
Highly recommend checking it out!

The lovely congregation of the Finnish church join hands to put on a craft fair and Christmas street market each year. Their hard work and dedication shines through. Beautiful music from the local choir as you quietly shop for lovely things.
T. H.
Such a friendly and welcoming place! We mainly go for private sauna sessions in the basement but often also stay for coffee afterwards in their little cafe. The staff is very nice and open and the congregation is also welcoming to non-Finnish people like us :)
R. K.
Best sauna in London. Friendly welcome and the shop was open, too so got some Finnish goodies for Christmas.
J. S.
It was a lovely find, I dont have to wait to go back home to get to a proper sauna! Everyone who wants to experience no fuss, proper sauna, do go! The little shop there also has all the sweets I used to eat as a kid and also what I eat now lol. So happy I found this place!!!

Loved it. Just simply a wonderful place that is totally integrated into and supports the local community. A huge range of courses and other activities are in offer which utilize the various spaces the church has in addition to services.
It's roots for the Rotherhithe community run deep and for many centuries, a significant connection of today's world with the past. It's just a wonderful place - make sure this is one of the places you check out if in the area. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
J. N. R.
A good place for food and you can rent the sauna privately for an hour - good for a proper sweat and scrub down. Watch out for prices at the Christmas Fair, they're pretty steep although that's partly down to the stallholders and not just the church.
S. L.
The Finnish Church is much more a community centre with a church attached to it than the other way around. There's a sauna, cafe/cafeteria, shop, library, hostel and children's play area. There is a lot of activity - especially on weekdays - for mothers and kids, and weekend activities for families and adults alike. (As of Feb 2017 the sauna is still under renovation, so check the FB page or website of the church for updates.)
There are two main 4-day events held every year: the Christmas Fair (November) and the Easter Fair (March/April). These attract thousands of visitors, but few know that outside of these times, there's a lot going on - and it's often very delicious!
There's a Finnish meal for £6 (£4 veg or £3 soup) on Saturdays and Tuesdays and on some random days (contingent on other activities). Then there's always a basic cafe which serves sweet and savoury pastries and filter coffee and tea. Prices are very reasonable for London standards and the atmosphere is relaxing and homely. The church is a welcoming place for people, regardless of their background, and many come out of curiosity to try Finnish foods or to meet Finnish friends.

Like being home, amazing sauna and great people

Visited here yesterday for the first time, for background I went to Helsinki a few years ago on a solo trip and loved the food/culture/approach to life I feel I experienced when out there.
So the building is quite unassuming in some ways and in others quite striking, lots of grey and an understated look. You buzz to get in and are greeted by a friendly cashier, we had a look around the shop that sells a lot of classic Finnish essentials like Karl Fazer chocolate, jars and tins of pickles and James and coffee cups and mugs amongst other things. My brother promptly bought a selection of Fazer chocolate.
Also present is a chilled out space that had a lot of families and kids enjoying themselves and a sauna (which we didn't see but want to try sometime) which you could feel some of the residual heat from! We got a few Karelian pasties to go and then left to eat in the local park.
If you are a Finn/Estonian it will probably feel quite like home there, I definitely got the Finnish vibes I experienced when in Helsinki.
Will be back for sauna and more Karelian pasties no doubt
A. R.
Lovely place to stay alone or with family. Superb hosts and very helpful with anything you want to know about. Clean and hygienic rooms and washrooms along with shower facilities.
J. Z.
What other chutch in the United Kingdom has it's own sauna? Where else will you see the church baseball team quietly steaming up the back of the cafe draped in towels after their post game sauna scrub and shower?
In which other church will you find Karalian pies, cinnamon buns and limitless supplies of Nordic coffee?
Has any other church garden anywhere got it's very own strawberry tree yielding it's own fruits in season?
Nordic Noir novels in the original language?
A 20 bed hostel?
The biggest gas fired paella pan filled with stewing reindeer meat?
Genuine original Alvar Alto furniture and glassware.
The best, the biggest and the most happening 4 to 5 day long Christmas fare and Nordic/Scandinavian street market?
Original moomin?
Albion Street in Rotherhithe.
See u there!

Lovely people, warm welcome, clean and tidy, crisp white bedding and towels, good shared facilities (even a kitchenette), nice help yourself breakfast, and great public transport links. What's not to like?
K. S.
We go every year for the Finnish market (november) to buy lots of food, calendars and crafts. Best bit is eating karelian pies, Frankfurters, mash and ligonberry with a long drink
R. R.
A delightful carol service. Even though i did not quite understand the words i recognised the tunes. Excellent clergy ladies and pianist. And a beautiful modern Church.
J. C.
Little slice of Finland in the big smoke! After living in Finland for two years I've missed it every since I left. I can buy all the wonderful Finnish candy and go for a sauna every time I dream of mokkis and piirakka...
J. S.

Kiva pieni kahvila josta saa suomalaisia leivoksia ja hyvää kahvia 👍🏻 Pieni kauppa josta saa esim. ruisleipää, perus grillimakkaraa 😋, suklaata, karkkia, pikapuuroja, ruisleipää, hilloja, muumitavaraa, jäätelöä yms. muuta kivaa perus suomalaisia tuotteita 😍 Työntekijät todella mukavia ja kiva päästä välillä puhumaan suomea täällä Lontoossakin :)

(Translated) It is a hostel different from traditional models as it is located inside a Finnish church.
It is very close to Rotherhithe and Canada Water station (which works during the night). 10 minutes from Big Ben (subway). Excellent location with and residential neighborhood.
The cost benefit is excellent for those looking for a hostel with a family atmosphere (without parties). Breakfast is included and served in the Church cafeteria.
The accommodations are clean, comfortable and the rooms without luxury (wi-fi in the common area, air conditioning and heating. There is no TV in the rooms).
There is a pantry near the rooms with a stove and microwave. The bathrooms are of excellent quality, however they are communal.
