Reviews of St Mary Aldermary
Host coffee is amazing!! Great use of space. Brilliant coffee and food. Just go!!
It was unexpected for me to enter a church and find a lounge... sofa, armchairs, tables to warm up, snack or drink tea in a calm atmosphere of contemplation. You can also come and pray there of course! But not only that: we sing Taize songs twice a week and there are also meditation sessions. ..
Magnificent English Gothic architecture. Inside, a cafeteria. You can have something or nothing. It is also possible to bring something from the street and eat it there. At certain times, meditation. Ideal place to pray, meditate or simply rest under beautiful ceilings. A delight to spend some time in this place. The boy who runs the cafeteria, Gonzalo, is Spanish and charming.
(Translated) This Episcopal church is exactly how I would have liked the churches always, with a cafeteria inside the same temple to have a coffee and eat a croissant. I listened to the bored priest preach something with no desire or conviction.

Esta iglesia episcopal es exactamente como me hubieran gustado las iglesias siempre, con una cafetería dentro del mismo templo para tomarme un café y comer un croissant muestras escuchaba al aburrido cura predicar algo sin ganas ni convencimiento.
You can have a unique experience drinking coffee inside a church!
Impressive church in the middle of London. I was surprised to find a bar inside. There is
what to visit
It is interesting how they have turned this church into a cafeteria. They kept the benches and everything as is.

Incantata
The idea of associating the sacred with the profane is excellent
(Translated) English coffee but unique atmosphere.

Caffè inglese ma atmosfera unica.
If you don't know him or know anything about him, you will be very surprised. Dare and enter!!!
When I tell it, they don't believe me.
Alternative coffee shop inside St Mary Aldermary's church! Loved the idea of having coffee in a church ! Great atmosphere and helpful staff !
Such a lovely place ❤️
I really liked it here, everything was in its place...
Original to combine the sacred with the profane

Gorgeous
Stumbled upon this gem during lunch time walk. I'm really impressed with the church and decor inside. I'm surprised to find a cafe inside and I must say they do excellent coffee. A delightful find. :)
A cafe inside the church, ambiance is absolutely stunning alas the coffee is average. Worth a visit just for the ambiance.
A rare opportunity ✨ to see very rare Architectural excellence rite, slap bang in the middle of the Citi*
Lovely 😍.
Such a hidden gem in the middle of the city. Beautiful church with a great coffee shop inside. All the proceeds go to charity/preserving the church.
Really beautiful church with a great cafe
Very nice idea to have a cafe in a church to bring calm life into this beautiful location.
The cafe here is lovely, with delicious espresso. A really creative way to support the church.
It is one of the best places i have ever been. Awsome idea, very good cofe!
Quite an interesting coffee shop inside a church. Nice cakes as well!
My Husband and I came here for the first time on valentine's day, they reserved a table for us and put a rose on the table for us, the coffee was lovely and the staff were professional too. The church itself was astonishing and breathtaking, would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a different place to have a coffee/tea. We will definitely be visiting again.
This is a lovely place: coffee is very good. Almond croissants are amazing. Perhaps the best thing is that they help out the local homeless community. If you visit, consider buying a "suspended coffee" for someone: see the sign on the counter or ask the staff.
Beautiful and peaceful place in a busy world. Also which is strange a cafe in it. But it was the best mocha I've ever had...
A hidden gem! Fabulous coffee shop with sandwiches cake and meeting space. Eclectic faith with quiet ares for everyone.
This is a beautiful little church in the heart of the city. A great place for lunch and coffee. People are very respectful and keep the noise down. You can walk around inside or just sit and relax. The ceiling is fantastic too. A must if you're in the city of London.
Fascinating City church, as so often with city churches only small bits are exposed on the street and you can walk right by without noticing. Inside we found a lively coffee bar serving top rate coffee.
I absolutely love this church. It's not the most atmospheric of the City churches, but it has one of the most amazing ceilings you can imagine. The stained glass is also quite remarkable. My favourite is at the top of the right aisle as you go in. The stained glass window in question is above the altar of what appears to be a private chapel, so please be respectful if others are in their praying. But take a look at the window and you will see St Paul's Cathedral and, alongside, its architect, Sir Christopher Wren, holding the plans for the cathedral. Add to all this the fact there is a neat little coffee shop inside on weekdays and these are ample reasons to visit what is one of the City of London's lesser known churches.
Paul is simply awesome. Delivered a wonderful service for the wedding. Even a space to have drinks after and helped us loads.
Beautiful venue.
Nice church, a quiet place to have your lunch, meditate, do some yoga in the morning or visit a lovely coffee shop. Hidden gem in the City of London!
Very nice church. Old and well kept. Open to all visitors. Great place to have a quiet lunch, even if you bring your own lunch.
I love a cup of coffee here to get out of the office, the coffee is great and there is nothing better than an adhoc meeting in a church, it's quite, cozy and you get to catch up in the pews
On the occasion of the Royal Tank Regiment Rememberance service on 21st Nov, I was privileged to be the Merseyside RTRA branch Standard bearer for the day, that's me on the left wearing the sunglasses
Coffee shop, space for meditation, general good vibe. In the middle of a messy sprawling city a little oasis of calm and quiet to take a break when the rain is heavy
This was an amazing experience . Quite time to reflection having a coffee
Didn't know that there are so many lovely little churches hidden amongst the office buildings of the City of London. Really worth a walking visit to see these.
Perfect welcoming place for all comers. When you buy your coffee, remember to also buy one for someone who needs it more than you 👍
Beautiful
Many people have lunch here, it also has no food area that people can meditate or pray. Lunch time is a bit busy and noisy though
The Guild Church of St Mary Aldermary is an Anglican church located in Watling Street at the junction with Bow Lane, in the City of London. Of medieval origin, it was rebuilt from 1510. Badly damaged in the Great Fire of London in 1666, it was rebuilt once more, this time by Sir Christopher Wren; unlike the vast majority of Wren's City churches, St Mary Aldermary is in the Gothic style.
Great place to eat your lunch to get away from busy central London! You don’t have to anything to use the church seating.
Nice place to have a Coffee.
Love this place. I wish there were more churches that open to the public for byo lunches. Great idea.
Fantastic place to have a cup of coffee. Not only a great idea, but also good quality cafe. Must see if you're in the city centre and need to take a break. They also serve some snacks and sandwiches but I haven't tried, will do next time!
First time I had coffee in a church. Coffee was average but the atmosphere was terrific.
The coffee shop inside adds a new dimension to the religious experience. A latte in a pew - where else can you have that?
Brilliant place to sit and eat your own food at lunchtime, or buy from their coffee shop
Lovely lunchtime cafe inside stunning Christopher Wren church, with homemade goods and soup.
Great space (as it has been for 100s of years) that did a good job of demonstrating that there is no sacred/secular divide.
Great church with cafe. Great place to have lunch
Peaceful place for lunch. Good soups and excellent coffee.
Nice coffe shop, in very unusual surroundings.
Host cafe inside and the church itself is a great resource for city workers
Great place and lots of people
I found this place in an article about London's quirkiest coffee shops. The café is located in The Guild Church of Saint Mary Aldermary. Benedictine monks from Christchurch Canterbury Priory are thought to have founded it over 900 years ago. The church was one of many which suffered significant damage during the Great Fire of London in 1668 and so Christopher Wren rebuilt the church in the late 17th century in a gothic style. Since 2011 the Moot community, a new monastic community, run the church and have also developed the Host café.
Sadly I was delayed on my incoming journey and was too late to enjoy a cup of coffee whilst admiring the columns and interior of the church. I was invited in to have a look around the church though. The coffee is said to be provided by local roasters, Mission Coffee Works. Cakes breads and organic soup are also available. All things I’ll enjoy next time I’m in the area.
Cafe to get coffee in CofE church! Sit in a pew and eat lunch! So friendly!

Great coffee and sweets in a breathtaking environment
An oasis of calm, serving lunch to a replenished and contented congregation.
Have lunch in a church, surreal but so cool
Grade I Listed 17th.Century early Gothic Revival church. The square Tower with corner turrets among the most restrained in the City. The naive separated from the aisles by shallow arches supported on white columns, effectively drawing one’s vision toward the spectacular plaster fan-vaulted ceiling. Breathtaking geometry; inspired and uplifting.
A coffee shop with seating located at the end of the western naive smelts effortlessly into the surround.
The coffee just fine, the surround memorable.
An active community, an outreach programme, courses and lectures.
Recommended unhesitatingly.
Very beautiful and good coffee.

Interesting
spotted on a site that talked about this church.
I was dazzled and absolutely wanted to visit it.
She is magnificent.
Please come visit us! I can't believe you can eat and drink inside the church! There are separate seats for food and drinks, so you don't have to worry about it.Although it was early afternoon, there were many men in suits, and they were bringing their own food.
The wonderful stained glass and ceiling decorations are also worth seeing!
It’s unusual to listen to a service 4000 km from home in your native language, a neat, quiet church
Having a coffee in a church is a different experience for a Spanish tourist
A beautiful old church with nice friendly cafe and place to rest in the busy City of London
