Was an excellent place to visit! The amount of history here was well beyond what I had originally imagined. Not only are there a lot of ties to British religious history, but British history in general. There are also ties to significant scientific, art, and literary icons throughout the last several hundred years. The free audio guide with your tour was also very helpful in giving a more in-depth look at some of the statues, memorials, and other sites to see during your visit. Overall highly recommend this tour!

We have visited before but had more time this time around and made good use of the audio tour. There is an amazing amount of history and the audio guide is pretty much essential.
We also paid extra to visit the Queens Diamond Jubilee Gallery (£4 I recall) but for me this was the highlight of the visit. The views are amazing and the exhibition itself is very impressive.
As we had visited London by train we made use of the 2 for 1 days out scheme and got half price entry into the Abbey. Details are on most rail websites but you must print out the voucher in advance and have your return rail tickets with you.
N. D. G.
The price of the tickets are worth it. Very beautiful place. The audio tour guide will explain most of the important parts of the Abbey. I will definitely go back but this time I will avail the secret tour. Avail the crowned jewel tour as well.

Expect long queues to entry the Abbey!
Last time a visit the place the queue for entry was too long that the expected time to get in from the last position was way above 30 minutes!
However, the places is worth the wait. Most of the most relevant persons in Britain history are buried here, and you can just get a grasp of all the importance given to their memories just by visiting the place.

Beautiful church. The audio guide was very helpful in explaining things, and there is a lot to see. Gives a wonderful history of many of the tombs you see. £24 each seemed a little steep, but ended up being well worth it.

Before the review I have to explain something- the first time I was Westminster Abbey I was 15 and the place impressed me so much. Now 25 years later I was sure all my memories of nostalgia would disappoint me.
BUT
The place is awe-inspiring. British, English, religious and scientific history within such a fascinating place. We were four hours with two kids. We were just really hungry so we went out Highly recommend

A wonderful and old building full of the tombs and monuments to some of the greats of the UK, including Edward the confessor, Henry VII and his granddaughter Elizabeth I and her rival Mary Queen of Scots.
It opens at 9:30 and that's the best time to visit before lots of people fill it and make it difficult to get around and get the photos you want, especially as visiting the Abbey is expensive.
S. H.
We loved it, get the audio tour as you will know what you are looking at, so much history and information… everyone loved it, my husband, myself and my (11y & 8y sons).. If you are visiting London, you should go there.
R. M.
Fascinating, stunning and vast building with many parts and so much to see. The new queens gallery above is well done and has a video of the history of the buildings forming the Abbey. It feels very ‘stately’ rather than like a holy place of worship. Poets corner is my favourite.
C. H.
Nice church with good historical significance however tickets are over-priced. As a tourist, I personally much preferred St Paul’s with better value for money and experiences at St Paul’s including the climbing the dome to the highest point (whereas it’s an extra £5 (£29 total) at Westminster to climb to a lower viewing point). Finally the toilets were unsatisfactory, having only 1 fully functioning toilet available to women at the time of visiting.

Westminster Abbey, London church that is the site of coronations and other ceremonies of national significance. It stands just west of the Houses of Parliament in the Greater London borough of Westminster. Situated on the grounds of a former Benedictine monastery, it was refounded as the Collegiate Church of St.Peter in Westminster by Queen Elizabeth I in 1560. In 1987 Westminster Abbey, St. Margaret’s Church, and the Houses of Parliament were collectively designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.

So much British history in one place, and in early 2022 still very much less busy than it is likely to be later in the year.
Highly recommend a visit to see the last resting place of Elizabeth I, Mary and Edward the Confessor to name but three monarchs, as well as Stephen Hawkin, Newton, Mozart, and of course the Unknown Warrior.
J. O.
A London must see! Lots of Royals history found here. Notable kings and queens are interred here beginning with William the Confessor. Put enough time aside to take the 1 hour tour offered rather than just the highlights tour. Tomb of the unknown soldier is found here. Kings and queens have been crowned at Westminster Abbey for their coronation ceremony and Royals have been married here too. Lots of rich history. Magnificent Gothic architecture and stained glass.
M. P. P.
The Abbey is wonderful. I suggest to go with the London walks tour because they explain lots of things when you are inside the church.
Newton is buried there and also Stephen hawkings

First time visit
Stunning building draped in history. Learning about all who have walked there, been buried there and are remembered there.
The Queen’s diamond jubilee gallery with the spectacular views and the video which shows the evolution of what we know as Westminster Abbey today.

An interesting place from which you can see most of the history of the British monarchy! A very popular place for many tourists, I even had to spend a considerable time to get inside! There is a lot of history as well as the very feeling of everything that is there inside! I was very impressed with the inner courtyard, beautiful and cozy, you don't even feel that you are in the very center of the city! I loved London!😍😍😍
b.
Living within a few miles and never in my life having visited, I thought this was a good time to put this right and given how quiet it was, this proved correct.
Whilst this is first and foremost a religious site of national importance, I am not sure how it copes when it is busy. The signage is sometimes hard to spot (even to find the entrance) and too many interesting tombs and the like are difficult (unless you speak Latin) to identify, some side chapels are not mentioned in the guide and not marked in any way. Given that you pay a fair sum to enter, then the church authorities need to meet their customer's needs more exactly.
The nave is wonderful and the flags and ancient tombs around the Lady Chapel well worth seeing. The floor is littered with memorials and graves and it is fascinating to see who is there, and who isn’t. With the need to look up, look around and look down simultaneously, the visit can be a bit hazardous and it is easy to miss interesting items.
A visit to the Queen's Galleries should be included (extra of course!) but again some of the items are not identified and remain obscure. You do get an excellent view down the cathedral however.
The toilets, café (not very big) and gift shop can be visited on the way out via the cloisters.
Finally, the website needs a review to remove inconsistences about ticketing and some other matters on different pages.

Great place to visit! I recommend Hidden highlights tour cost £15 but gives access to Eduard the confessor shrine room, library, coronation chair etc. Also allows access to top floor museum with great views of the Abbey. To see everything takes about 3hrs, tour alone is one hour.
S. G.
Pricey.. I think to charge £24 to visit something of such national importance is actually quite shocking, restricting entry to lots of people. The Audio/video tour was pretty good, but the check in point signs are not that clear.
I wasn’t that impressed with the red coated ‘Abbey police’. I understand they have a job to do but being told to take my hat off in the way of being told off like a 4 year old, is unacceptable. “You are in a church” REALLY??? 😡 interesting visit but it’ll certainly be a one off!
S. N.
A good place to learn about the history and monarchy of England. Go for the hidden highlights tour, it is worth it and it will include the galleries admission too 😉
W. S.
From the moment you see the building you know what you are in for. The building’s beautiful architecture and towering size stirs a feeling of awe from deep inside me. The inside was no different with intricate stone and wood work that nearly assaulted the eyes with their beauty
T. G.
Second time here. The history is amazing. Loved the poets corner. The guides are amazing! We loved their energy and their knowledge.
P. W.
I’ve been round the abbey many times over the years and gave to say it’s far from my favourite place in London. It’s a cavernous and gloomy building, apart from the glorious lady chapel. The abbey could go with making the visit more interesting by handing out audio guides for free like the excellent one at Hampton Court that really brings the visit to life. The abbey charges for their offering on top of the steep admission charge. The gardens a nice. Otherwise if time is short give this place a miss.
M. H. M.
The Abbey staff around the church are very approachable and more than happy to answer questions. Good wheelchair access at the entrance and around most of the Abbey, but not all.
J. N.
Absolutely beautiful. Attended the Carol service there, wonderful atmosphere. Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, lovely so pionant.
S. A. (.
I am recommending for visiting. My suggestion is when you plan to go to visit earlier in the day, because when you enter in the last slot of the day, they clousing the object slowly and is feeling like pressure to rush.
J. S.
So much history here, loads to see although there are some disappointing things. Expensive (everything has to be bought separately), limited on time, certain areas are closed on different days making seeing everything in one go difficult and meaning you'd have to pay to return! You can't miss out on the history and burials there though and they know that. There's no clear indication in certain areas where people are buried (with chairs covering prime minister's tombs and only a plaque hidden away in areas) which makes finding places hard and unless you're willing to pay more for a map then you're stuck searching constantly.
S. I.
One of the most important historical and cultural symbol of the UK. In the very hurt of London next to the Parliament, Buckingham Palace and all other main official buildings. Traditional Gothic architecture, absolutely grand and stunning alive history and British traditions.
Z. H.
The most incredible structure/cathedral I've ever been. Grand..history..culture...MUST SEE ...better than Sagrada familia of Barcelona and St. Steven's of Vienna or Venice...nothing measure up... it's like the Vatican. Photos or words don't give justice. £24 entrance fee.
S.
As you enter, there is a sign that says in essence, "we hope you feel God's presence here as you visit." We did, and we are very grateful we stayed to see the entire Abbey (we planned on 2 hours but ended up spending 4 here).
It's difficult to express in words or even photos how spectacularly breathtaking this cathedral is. The Lady Chapel's ceiling was one of my favorite features...like lace cut from stone. UT the most touching was the Chapter House. One window expressed the conviction that for the glassmakers who created the stained glass masterpieces, their craft was their prayer to God. Over and over as we walked through the Abbey and admired the workmanship, we felt surrounded by the faith and prayers of not just the craftsmen, but also the millions of everyday people who had sent petitions heavenward within this sacred space.
The Queen's Jubilee Galleries are well worth the extra fare. It includes some of the Abbey's oldest stained glass creations, funeral effigies of prominent persons (including the Duke of Wellington), and an original copy of the Magna Carta.
J. A.
It was very nice place and very clean area and al so quick to exit to another road
E. H.
Lovely, the audio tour is excellent, informative, curious, inspiring, honestly loved it. The place well... incredible, don't think I can say much more than that. Please do this, I super recommend.
s. r.
You have to be inside the church to appreciate its architectural marvel and suggest to keep at least two/three hours to fully soak the overall experience. One of the world’s most significant religious buildings with a history of more than thousand years and a place of coronation/burial site of British monarchs for many generations. Audio tour is quite helpful in understanding the rich history and important decisions taken from this church. Choral tunes inside the church make the experience serene and this place is must visit for tourists.

Westminster Abbey, formally titled the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster, is a large, mainly Gothic abbey church in the City of Westminster, London, England, just to the west of the Palace of Westminster. It is one of the United Kingdom's most notable religious buildings and the traditional place of coronation and a burial site for English and, later, British monarchs.
The building itself was originally a Catholic Benedictine monastic church until the monastery was dissolved in 1539. Between 1540 and 1556, the abbey had the status of a cathedral and seat of the catholic bishop. After 1560 the building was no longer an abbey or a cathedral, after the Catholics had been driven out by King Henry VIII, having instead been granted the status of a Church of England "Royal Peculiar"—a church responsible directly to the sovereign—by Queen Elizabeth I.
According to a tradition first reported by Sulcard in about 1080, a church was founded at the site (then known as Thorn Ey (Thorn Island)) in the seventh century at the time of Mellitus, a Bishop of London. Construction of the present church began in 1245 on the orders of King Henry III.[4]
Since the coronation of William the Conqueror in 1066, all coronations of English and British monarchs have occurred in Westminster Abbey.[4][5] Sixteen royal weddings have occurred at the Abbey since 1100.[6]
The Abbey is the burial site of more than 3,300 persons, usually of prominence in British history: at least 16 monarchs, eight Prime Ministers, poets laureate, actors, scientists, military leaders, and the Unknown Warrior. As such, Westminster Abbey is sometimes described as "Britain's Valhalla", after the iconic hall of the chosen heroes in Norse mythology.[7]
P. B.
The inside is just as beautiful as the outside. My wife and I plan to do a proper visit. Definitely check it out.
M. B.
I love how Westminster Abbey pays tribute to Martin Luther King by erecting a statue of him above the main entrance. His statue is in the center next to other famous religious leaders.
This is remarkable to me because he is not British and is of another Christian faith.
M. M.
A place you have to see in London. We went to evensong on a Sunday afternoon and I'd recommend doing that as a free and peaceful way to visit. It's a spiritual experience and the music is so beautiful.
D. T.
Highly recommended. The Abbey is filled with history and the audio-guide helps to get a better understanding of this unique place. It is surprising to see so many thousands of burials and memorials in a single building. The tomb of the Unknown warrior is quite suggestive

One of the most important historical and cultural symbol of the UK. Traditional Gothic architecture, absolutely grand and stunning alive history and British traditions.

1000 years of history, was great to visit this masterpiece. The audio tour guide was really well presented. Map. Timeline. Great amount of speaking on each subject. Really been mastered well. Great to see history in front and upclose too. Really is a must see for people. Price would say is high for entry, however to maintain such a delicate place won't be cheap and that's why I had to qualms in paying for it. Glad I visited, and I urge people to go aswell!

Amazing 1000 year old abbey next to Parliament Square. The building itself was originally a Catholic Benedictine monastic church until the monastery was dissolved in 1539. Incredible experience. We did the headphone guided tour and it was awesome to listen to while taking in everything we were seeing. Unforgettable, the architecture, the history. 10/10 recommend.
S. N.
Splendid and beautiful Abbey besides the romantic Thames River. When I came there, Big Ben was renovating that time so I couldn't see beautiful Big Ben, hope next time can see it
G. C.
Breathless: the outside, the inside, every corner of it. Filled with history. Too much to see and learn during one visit.Audio guide was very helpful and essential.
J. K.
Stunning architecture on this world-class building. Majestic and immense, it makes for perfect tourist-photo fodder when in The City.
A. L. (.
Absolutely incredible and breathtaking. Worth every pound that you must pay to enter!
A. C.
I toured here prior to the pandemic. I have a visual impairment so I was able to get a very nice descriptive tour where I got to experience all the parts of the abbey. I was allowed to touch certain areas and get up close to some of the burial areas and structures. Thisis a very cool place to be and definitely a must do when visiting London for the first time!
A. K.
Near Westminister Station there are very nice London attractions for tourists I.e. Westminiter Palce, Westminster Abby a very old Church, and across the bridge there is London Eye. Tourists from all over the world came to must watch this beautifull tourist attractions of London.
C. B.
Just amazing. So much history, so much to see. More spectacular inside than expected.. Diamond Jubilee galleries worth the extra.
B. W.
You must visit the Westminster Abbey in London. Is beautiful.
K. B.
Westminster Abbey is a beautiful cathedral situated right across from Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament on one side and the Supreme Court of Great Britain on the other side. Many Royals were crowned or married in Westminster Abbey. It is accessible from the subway station Westminster. If you are not able to pay the $40 entry fee then just tell them that you would like to light a candle to pay your respect and you will be allowed inside for a few minutes to say your prayers.
M. P.
Very impressive, very important very historic cathedral, burial place of many famous British subjects whose deeds can be read about on their memorials. Some in Latin, I wish I had tried harder at school.
Best to Google to see full extent of the burials .
I was very impressed with the Order of Bath Chapel with its flags, and a magnificent ceiling.
The tomb of the unknown soldier serves as a reminder of the futility of war.
And for those interested in literature, then Poets Corner would be of great interest.
A. L.
Beautiful gothic church. Every time I pass by have to stop for a few minutes and enjoy this beautiful architectural masterpiece.
K. S.
Lived in London almost 10 years and have never visited Westminster Abbey until today while a friend visits from out of town.
We bought tickets that included the audio guide which was so worth it in my opinion. The small smart device you’re given is intuitive and very easy to use.
Just learning the history of all of the monarchs and noteworthy people who are buried or remembered here is truly amazing.
Seeing the final resting places of some very important and incredible people really makes you proud of British achievements in history.
Seeing the Lady Chapel and the Nave leave you in a stunned and humble silence as you contemplate all of the feet who hand tread these floors.
A real treat and thoroughly recommend for Brits and Tourists alike.
K. G.
I really enjoyed Westminster Abbey. It was very educational and beautiful. The line to get in was very long, but it was worth the wait.
J. C.
No wonder this is where the events of the British royal family take place. Westminster Abbey is incredible, its size, its architecture and the details it presents. It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever visited, without forgetting that it is located in an incredible area of the beautiful city of London.
K. V. H. V.
Absolutely gorgeous venue and for any Harry Potter fans looking like a real life Hogwarts 😄
C. B.
Brilliant. Oodles of things to see.History the tombs of some of our famous kings and queens.
Poets corner, full again of all sorts of poets and authors.Loads of photo opps.Beautiful medieval architecture. Well worh the visit.
G. V.
It’s a must to go. You have to pay 24 Pound to enter, maybe this is for maintenance.
D. A.
Incredible place - if you have time, book the Hidden Highlights tour (90 plus min long). Well worth the extra cost - we had a very knowledgeable tour guide called Daisy who showed us the sacristy of the old church (had real bones, skulls & things lying on the ground), the library, Edward Confessors shrine, with the Queen Gallery thrown in.
L. B.
Amazing venue for a joint schools Congirmation by the delightful Bishop of London.
T. M.
The Hidden Highlights Tour is first class. You really do get to see hidden parts of the Abbey rather than just odd things you might not have noticed.
The guide on the day I visited was called Daisy. She not only really knew her stuff but was engaging, amusing and judged the length of each section to perfection. Best £15 I have spent in a long time.
C. H.
One of the most notable and recognised English churches reserved for royal events such as weddings and funerals however offering daily mass etc.
L. G.
Very interesting, allow plenty of time you don't want to miss anything here.
A. Q.
Excellent Customer Service with COVID compliance...
R. D.
I have never been here before and it is truly an amazing place. I cannot recommend a visit here enough.
A. S.
Impressive structure crammed with history. Included audio guide gives a good range of info on what you can see and stories behind it. Took about 2 hours to go round.
A. S. (.
Amazing! It's even more spectacular than I expected!
g.
Serves both as a superb piece of gothic architecture and a monument of British history.
While the admission fee is pretty hefty at £24 for an adult, it is still worth a visit
T. T.
Absolutely breathtaking. So much wonderful history. They have a walking tour that you can do for 30 minutes, one hour or even longer. They also have a area where you can see less trafficked artifacts, fir more money.
T. V. B.
Beautiful in tge sunshine. Well worth the visit
P. D.
Never been inside before. Well worth the entrance fee. There are so many things to marvel at. The stained glass windows were fabulous. The tombs and memorials to monarchs and famous people. Don't expect this to be a quick visit but take your time and enjoy.
S. S.
An amazing building with a wealth of history. A must visit Abbey.
M. P.
Beautiful church but not worth 24 £ to walk inside!! The sister church next door is just as beautiful and free admission!
You can walk around the grounds and get the feel of the church and the beauty without paying :-)
B. H.
Amazingly beautiful ancient medieval cathedral located in the heart of London near all the best attractions. You won't want to miss this stop on your trip. Many Monarchs are buried inside. Don't leave without seeing Mary Tudor (bloody Mary), and her sister Elizabeth I. Wonderful experience and a must see feat of ancient architecture. Very well preserved.
C. T.
This was one of those moments where you don't quite know what to expect till you step through the doors. Guarded by angels, saints and apostles - the abbey opens up to pure history. There's no detail missed. If you can catch the Sunday choir service, it will change your life.
S. A.
Westminster Abbey is one of THE iconic buildings of London and sits beside the Houses of Parliament. Probably seen as the coronation church, having hosted the coronation of Monarchs since 1066, it is also the final resting place of 17 of those. The original Abby was founded in 960 A.D. but the building we visited dates from the 13th century and the reign of Henry the III. This is a very popular tourist site so we booked our tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. On the website you choose the date and a time to enter slot, adults are currently £21 but seniors who are 60+ get a discounted £18 ticket. The online price is £2 cheaper than paying at the door and allows you fast track entry. Ticket price includes a multimedia Guide which is pretty good and allows you to get information by clicking on the numbers which correspond to the plaques at particular parts of the abbey. Although very detailed I was disappointed that many of the items in the abbey weren’t clearly labelled nor could you drill down for more information on the multimedia guide. That said, just following the guide around the numbered plaques takes between one and two hours.
The whole place is absolutely packed with artefacts, tombstones, plaques to the good and the great, plus some magnificent architecture. Whilst the whole building is high on my list of must see things if you are in London, The lady chapel was the most spectacular for me and is well worth lingering over.
We also visited the Abbey Gardens but the college garden and the little cloister garden are only open on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursday. They are free to visit and not conditional on you buying an entry ticket to the Westminster abbey.
R. R. A.
A beautiful 12th century gothic church where many famous people rest here including Newton, Darwin, Hawking, queen Elizabeth etc. It is also a place for royal weddings. You can also sign up to attend one of the services for free from their website. They do take COVID very seriously with social distancing, hand sanitizing and mask wearing. The choirs and music are absolutely beautiful.
T. B.
Most of the abbey is open to see under social distancing, although the Elizabeth and Mary Tudor tombs are not accessible. The abbey is famous for the who's who that are buried and honoured there
E. S. F.
To see this wonderful church it will be better to buy tickets before the internet as the entrance can be very fast and not two hours of waiting! The cathedral has a lot of history and many famous people buried there as well as Kings! I found the qualified audioguides for children very useful too! In the end a very tasty sconne
J. J.
You have seen it on the TV, now appreciate the real thing, it's beautiful and majestic gives you a sense of peace.
C. H.
This place is awesome - must see architecture and tombs. No photographs so be discreet or you will get called out by workers. The audioguide is helpful. Came at 11:30am on a Saturday and the wait was about ~30 minutes to get in.

I didn't go inside of the Westminster Abbey, but walked around it and it really looked magnificent from the outside. Great self-guided tour, we learned a lot and enjoyed our time here.
o. b.
It's not as grand or spectacular as some of the other Minsters out there, such as York Minster for example, but it packs a lot of History with dead Kings and Queens scattered around the place, along with a few other famous names from time gone by.
Price of entry was a little steep, and the Queen's Breakfast Tea in the gift shop makes a brew that should be avoided, only buy if you want the tin.
J. L.
Amazing Abbey and so much history. As an Engineer, it was amazing passing by the tombs os great names such as Newton, Hawking and Faraday. Overall you see how much has England and UK have been through. It sounds like a real life game of thrones lol. The Throne where the coronations are made is so simple, but it's so cool. The audio guide is free. But you have to make a reservation to go (at least that's a certain and simple way to go). You may also try to watch a mass at it, but it might be full. Anyway if you are in England, try to visit and I believe you won't regret it.

This tour is a must while in London. The gallery is a must as you get to look down on the Abbey absolutely breath taking.
A. H.
Studied history in a very neat order! 😍
V. V.
One of the main historic attractions in London! An absolutely must visit place (and try to research the history of this country to consciously go through all of the alleys and understand who is represented in all the ancient tombs)
2 minuses - it is really over crowded, but that is absolutely understandable: and you can not take pictures inside of the Abbey (I'd love to have a couple of shots to re-visit this memory some time and admire the glory)
Book online in advance (I would say 2 weeks before the visit), or buy the ticket on the day of arrival - 2 pounds more expensive. And enjoy!
L. G.
Historically and architecturally stunning and magical! it's a must-see attraction. However, it would be great to unblock the views of the memorial plaques in some of the alleys and not have these trolleys packed with stuff on the sides. Also, there is so little representation of women in there!!! the UK has lots of outstanding women, it's long overdue to have them present in the abbey!
J. M.
Highly recommend buying the additional tickets to the gallery
D. B.
Great experience. It is worth the price to do the tour but if you are fortunate enough to be there on a Sunday (or other time when there are worship services), you can go into the church for free. We were able to take in a Sunday morning worship service. It was lovely!
S. P.
We visited the chapter house which is accessible to English Heritage Members and enjoyed it more than the over-proiced abbey!
R. V.
One of the best places to visit while in London. So much history and incredible architecture. Make sure you have enough time to explore everything.
C. B.
As for me, this is the most beautiful building in London! I was really impressed.
I was lucky enough to get to the Sunday divine worship. It was awesome and beautiful.
C. P.
Unlike most historic buildings, Westminster Abbey is still very much a functioning church, as well as historical building.
And speaking of history, Westminster Abbey IS History. So many famous people buried inside, from those that were born famous (Princes) to those that earned their way into history, like those in the Poet's Corner, and those in Scientists Corner.
L. W.
Stunning. A must for anyone interested in our history.

I happened to visit on Memorial day, and it was heartbreaking, to see so many crosses all over the lawn. Didn't get to go inside as they were overwhelmed with people, but wonderful architecture and loads of history I need not re-mention.
S. D.
If you get the chance to visit Westminster Abbey, it is absolutely full of interesting facts and stuffed to the gills with memorials to historical people. Do go to the exhibition upstairs. It is a little extra to pay but you literally look into the faces of the Kings and Queens who ruled. I loved it. There are many beautiful artefacts including the ring Elizabeth I gave to her friend and fragments of cloth that adorned the effigies of royalty, so old that the mind boggles as to how they survived. Over a thousand years of history yet still a building with relevance and hope for the future. Not to be missed.
J. D. (.
I'm not super interested in history but Westminster Abbey kept me amused for a good 2-3 hours. The displays are very well presented and the audio tour is well worth doing. I would highly recommend coming here if you are a tourist in London
S. K.
This is one of the busiest attraction in London. And totally worth it .. it's very near to parliament. You can easily reach to this place as Westminster underground is very nearby.
If you have London pass the entry to this place is free. But please keep at least 2-3 hours for this place as there is a huge line outside this place.
P. V.
A must. Such history and such reverence to this place. It's literally walking on hallowed ground looking at grave markers of famous poets, scientists, royalty, etc buried here. Dating back to centuries ago this place is majestic and truly awe inspiring.
B. 4.
British history all in one place. Beautiful. Check opening times before you go. No longer free. Tickets are £25
per person.
M. S.
3 min into the visit, I saw Darwin's tomb and it became immediately worth every penny and every minute in the queue. The next 2 hours were only a huge plus
Z. J.
The Royal Abbey. If you want to see who's who of British royalty been buried here.
K. R.
A lot of dead people here! Felt it was overkill - forgive the oun certainly not enough information either the headphone tours. Loved the cloisters and garden areas and pleased I went but disappointed too
M. T.
The historical significance of this building cannot be overstated. It is an amazing sight to behold now.
N. T.
You cannot come to London and not visit this place. It oozes history. It’s amazing how you can walk into a place and see the resting place of kings and queens and some of the most famous people in history like Isaac Newton. The audio headsets are free with the ticket which is refreshing compared to other places where it’s extra - even has a kids option on the audio tour
A. K.
The Westminster Abbey is one of the most beautiful places to visit in London.
The history is well preserved and documented. The audio guide explains many details of the history and is worth it.
London pass covers this place as well so it is worth buying London pass.
N.
Magnificent all around. History as it happened across thousands of years for the English. Good audio guide included in the tickets. You can buy advance online tickets with some discount. Crowded as always. Plan for early morning slots opening at 9.30am. Check website for open dates. Good shop as well. Friendly staff. Gravestones of so many famous people. Even Richard Hawking. Charles Darwin, Newton etc.
B. U.
I can't even explain how surreal this experience was. The Abbey is beautiful and overwhelming. I saw where Sir Issac Newton, Charles Darwin, Stephen Hawking, Jane Austen, Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Mary I, Queen Mary of Scots and so many more of my favorite people are buried. We went all out and bought the verger tour, which is completely worth the 7 pounds as well as the tickets for the web galleries. What a wonderful day. And it is even more beautiful at night.
C. W.
Humble advice offered - give yourself four or five hours to absorb the significance of the Abbey. To dash in and out and think you can 'get' this place might be a mistake. It takes at least two hours to peel off the layers of time before you can truely marvel at the tomb of King Serbet 616 AD and at the glass bead festooned tomb of Katherine, King Henry 111 daughter of 1257 - and an almost hidden wall plaque of the tomb of Anne of Cleaves 1515 - 1557.
All of these you really have to look for - most of the guides are unaware of the first two.
E. W.
It is a 1,000-year old church, a wedding/coronation hall, a memorial gallery, a sculpture and painting museum, and a packed cemetery, all in one! Absolutely extraordinary and a must-do, not only for first timers, but for repeat visitors! Completely breath-taking!
J. S.
Westminster Abbey is London’s most famous and oldest religious building, where the monarchy is crowned and the remains of the Royal Family and famous British people are buried.
All monarchs have been crowned in the abbey following the coronation of William the Conqueror in 1066. Since the fourteenth century, when King Edward I had an oaken chair made with the Stone of Destiny (a red sandstone used for centuries in Scottish coronations), all the kings and queens have remarkably used the same medieval throne.
Some of the latest events celebrated in Westminster Abbey include the 80th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana’s funeral.
D. K.
Wonderful place for historians, peaceful, magnificently rises from the ground bearing its historical grandeur. Loved every bit of the walk inside. No one is allowed to take photos inside the chapels however.
R. D.
So many cool memorials here, had no idea the amount of prominent people from history buried here. Has a definite sense of significance.
S. S.
A splendid mixture of architectural styles, Westminster Abbey is considered the finest example of Early English Gothic. It's not merely a beautiful place of worship – the Abbey is still a working church and the stage on which history unfolds. For centuries, the country's greatest have been interred here, including 17 monarchs from King Henry III (died 1272) to King George II (1760). Much of the Abbey's architecture is from the 13th century, but it was founded much earlier, in AD 960.
C. H.
Spectacular! Lives up to its hype. Simply put, a treasure trove of British history. Containing the grand monuments of the great and the great it's very overwhelming. The highlight of course was evensong: exquisite music in spectacular surroundings. A must see!
R. B.
Absolutely stunning. The history and the sheer architectural wonder alone are worth visiting. Some of the most famous minds and monarchs are buried here and the new Diamond Jubilee gallery has some incredible artifacts (including the Magna Carta!). It's a must see for anyone who loves British history.
D. W.
It would be nearly impossible to visit a place with more beauty and history. We have visited Westminster Abbey a number of times and always see and learn something new. I highly recommend you take a guided tour. You will learn and see more with a guided tour.
J. a.
If you are interested In history and architecture then a visit here is a must.
I visited on Monday 15th Nov, the day after the laying of the wreaths, the 2 minute silence and the veterans parade at the cenotaph in remembrance of all who have served.
I was incredibly humbled and grateful to be able to pay my respects in the garden of remembrance in the grounds of Westminster abbey and at the tomb of the unknown warrior inside.
I paid an entrance price to the abbey and then chose to also add the 'hidden gems' tour ( photos not allowed for the vast part of the tour)
This included a guided tour with access to the archaeological site (featured on the time team program) which shows original foundations of the abbey and skeletal remains. Also entrance to the library ( which smells like a library ! Lol) The tomb of Edward the confessor, the Queen's gallery ( the views of the abbey are stunning from here) and the room containing the coronation chair and the standard that covered the coffin of the unknown warrior.
Our guide was Ash, who was informative , polite, professional and funny.
An audio guide is also available to purchase if you prefer this option or you can just wander around taking in the atmosphere.
Lots of friendly staff on hand to direct and advise you.
An informative and enjoyable experience.
My photos don't do it justice at all.
Please visit if you get the chance.
P. P.
Formally titled the Collegiate Church of St Peter at Westminster. A gorgeous and impressive edifice. Burial site of more than 3,300 persons. Contains the tombs of more than 20 monarchs and several dozen consorts. Beautiful cloister and garth. Great gift shop. Usually very busy. Pictures not allowed inside.
M. E.
Get tickets online before arriving. If you can use credit card points, there are usually some discounts that can be used and save some $$.
Plan plenty of time and enjoy the area. If you rush, it isn't worth it.
E. V.
Great cathedral, very massive in size to host and accommodate big gatherings. Located in a prime area in Central London, close to the parliament as well!
H. L.
A place with great history and a must visit place in London. The place where Prince Harry and Meagan held their wedding.
Can only take picture outside as photo taking within is not allowed.
D. Ö. A.
Such a historical place. I was really excited when I walked in the holl. Everyone should see this place. You can see Queen holl, some special area's.
V. R.
You can go inside during Mass without paying but otherwise it's pretty expensive.
T. O. A.
Westminster Abbey is a big cathedral in Westminster. There are multiple entries with nice sitting arrangements. The venue is also accessible to all. The interior has some sculptures of people from the past.
I was there for the Commonwealth Service and they had different layers of security. They also included some screens for everyone to see the proceedings irrespective of location.
J. C.
Beautiful church near Westminster. Normally would be crowded but today was nice a quiet on a sunny Saturday
C. C.
Many years since l came here. Extraordinary experience: so much history packed into one wonderful building: about eight centuries of it by my reckoning. Wonderful.
K.
Definitely a must see especially if you have the London Pass! Definitely use the audio guide which comes in dozens of languages and the pamphlet. Do the short audio version which takes 90 minutes but totally worth it! It goes over the architecture, history, kings, queens, coronation chair, and famous people s' graves! You cannot take pictures inside but prepare to be amazed! Not open on Sundays due to services. Also get there early or right on time otherwise you have to wait in a long line.
J. H.
Stunning building and was lovely to walk around there wasn't many people and I was happy that everyone was keeping to covid guidelines
R. M.
A singular building with a pivotal role in English history. Exceptional decoration and filled with historic monuments to historical and even more modern figures. Be sure to check out the Chamber of the Pyx and the other interesting spaces off the cloisters.
W.
Super cool and worth seeing in my opinion. Tons of tombs from past kings and queens, and other well know English people including Issac Newton, Stephen Hawking, and Charles Darwin. A bit strange that the last one would be buried in a church, but really cool to see regardless. Being from the US and not having a whole lot of stuff older than the 18th century, it’s super cool to see things that where made wayyyyy before the US was even colonized.
Lines are long, just like ever other tourist attraction, so expect to wait.
E. R.
Big Ben is located right here and apparently it always has the correct time. You can also view the London Eye from the Westminster Bridge. Parliament is also right here. If you love architecture, this is the place to be. Westminster Abbey is the church where the people's princess was married. These three places are adjacent to each other.
d. c.
very interesting trip in the history of England
L. B.
Self guided tour using a provided listening device makes it easy to go back and listen to areas you might of missed or want to review again.
S. H.
Westminster is an example of why I visited London. It's iconic and reflects the history of the country. It's a can't miss for any Christian or history / architecture buff. The audio guide is very good and is free. You'll want the audio guide - unless you're already an expert - because it provides context and literally leads you from one area to the next. It mainly hits the highlights without extensive detail.
A freebie is a good thing because the Abbey is otherwise expensive, almost prohibitively so. I still found it worth the cost, but I could see a family priced out of visiting. One option might be "visiting" the Abbey for a church service. While it's effectively a museum, the Abbey is still a fully functioning church. I doubt worshippers have full run of the Abbey, but you could still appreciate the history and architecture. Similarly, the audio guide isn't likely to be available during a service but you could download the app (admittedly, it's poorly rated - but again, it's free). Somewhat uniquely, you'll want to watch the audio guide as the visuals are helpful.
If there's one thing I could change other than the price, it's access to the shrine of Edward the Confessor. It's closed. Yes, you can (pretend to?) be a worshipper, but it's otherwise closed to the public and there are no photos allowed from the upper level. Many visitors probably don't care about whether they can view the shrine, but the shrine and surrounding royal tombs were *the* reason I came to Westminster. The mythology of Edward the Confessor is the foundation for the royal family - whether Plantagenet, Yorkist, Lancastrian, Tudor, Stuart, etc and, thus, effectively the root of English society. There needs to be an option for viewing. Better exhibits on the construction of the Abbey, particularly the timeline would be helpful too.
P. S.
Incredible history. Staff are incredibly helpful & lots of knowledge. Highly regarded. Only reason for 3 stars is cost. "The church" has millions upon millions of cash yet charges a small fortune then some to visit it's venues.
O.
When you are in London - you should see it! £23 for adult with 1 child is a lot, but it’s worth it.
The queue is usually long, but it took us around 30 min to get inside. With online ticket you will enter at once.
Unfortunately you cannot take pictures inside.
The abbey might look not SO impressive from the outside, but is absolutely impressive inside!
Highly recommended!
N. A.
Fabulous piece of British history. Lots to see in a true monument although still a place of worship. Many monuments to British monarchs, poets, politicians, engineers plus the tomb of the unknown soldier.
D. l.
I loved Westminster Abbey. So much history! It maybe just loses some of its basic function....churches like York and Chester feel 'holier' somehow but it is still a great visit
J. P.
Love the history and serene atmosphere at Westminster Abbey. Such a beautiful, spiritual place.
C. B.
PROS
Absolutely a MUST SEE if you are visiting London
Make sure you take the audio tour
The number of FAMOUS Britons buried there is simply MIND-BLOWING
Sir Isaac Newton buried literally FEET from Stephen Hawking...
Words cannot describe the beauty of the church
If you are a lover of history then you HAVE to visit
CONS
None
K.
This is one of the must visit places while in London. In fact, you should make your way to London to visit Westminister Abbey. The history is amazing and the beauty of this church is beyond words.
E. B.
Respectfully, it's almost more a museum than a place of worship with the amazing amount of statuary and plaques/artwork. But regardless, it's a Holy place and highly reverent in that it is the resting place for multiple Kings and Queens, and some of history's biggest and brightest from England and beyond.
It stinks they don't allow picture or video taking of any kind here. I don't really get it, but in a way it forces you to really take the sight and experience to a new and better level. You simply connect more deeply; at least I did.
Evensong is worth the wait and time. Even if you don't like or know the rich tradition of music in the church, attend and you'll be awestruck. The Choir does a fantastic job with a lot of music, and it's not easy music, either!
B. B.
I think I'm going to have to come back when the restoration is complete..
Can't see all of the outside of the building for a couple years, as it is under wraps for maintenance..🙁
Still very cool the see what you can of it!👍
L. S.
This is such a special landmark in London and it's easy to see why. From the outside it's beautiful and quite imposing, but it's not until you enter the abbey that you truly appreciate the size of it. A good tip is to attend a free service to experience it in all its glory. We signed ourselves up early and got tickets for a Christmas morning service which was a really unique experience. Another tip is to see this beauty lit up for Lumiere London.
J. S.
Unique experience, full of history, audio guides available, clean restroom 🚻 excellent customer service.
S. S.
Wonderful service on Christmas eve. The choir were delightful and the building is simply breath taking. This is an event to enjoy and not take photographs (strictly forbidden).
Extremely wonderful abbey, beautiful main doors, excellent readings from the bible.
G. P.
Disappointed, it's mainly a place for burying rich people, the mosaliums are quite intricate but boring after a while. Cafe limited menu, food microwaved, staff are pleasant enough though.
g. b.
1st time going there & me & my wife absolutely loved it. So much history. Had food in little cafe' which was nice. Thoroughly recommend.
C. O.
Needless to say, this visit is a must.
A. T.
Magnificent...beautiful....full of English history. Able to tour the Abbey with headphones.
G. P.
Listening to the choir at Christmas Mass was an incredible experience. It was worth the 40 minute walk, because there was no public transport, it was worth waiting in line with 5 degrees cold. It was absolutely amazing
C. L.
This is a really beautiful example of a Gothic church in the heart of London. Issue the palace of Westminster. A must see for all tourist.
F. F.
Is not the first time I visit the Abadía! Full of history obviously... An awesome example of architecture also. Loved to see one of the side in restoration, important to know will be preserve it.
M. O.
Beautiful and historic abbey in the middle of Lodon. Great scientists are buried or commemorated here. In particular in the area as known as the 'Scientists' Corner', there are graves of the following physicists: Issac Newton, Michael Faraday, James Clerk Maxwell, George Green, William Thomson Kelvin, Paul Dirac and Stephen Hawking. It clearly shows how much the UK has contributed to modern physics.
Any photography used not to be allowed in Westminster Abbey but they had relaxed the ban. Note that there are still some restrictions: not permitted at any time during services. See the official website for more details before your visit.
R. C.
Visited using the London Pass, so ticketing experience was quite easy. Make sure to go early, as this is a very popular location, especially as it gets later. They specifically request no photography once inside the actual Abbey, but the amount of history contained within is astounding. The audio tour is probably worthwhile at this location, as there are not many indicators of what you are looking at (so challenging to appreciate unless you have prior historical knowledge)
G. J.
Very interesting architecturally and historically! Enjoyed the audio guide that is provided with your entry ticket. Definitely expect to spend 2-3 hours here. No pictures allowed inside, but it is fabulous!
We paid five pounds extra to visit the upper level and it was worth it! Lots of extra things to see, fantastic views and much less crowded.
a. m.
Great historical place with automated guide. Ancient design and coronation palce were amazing . Must visit for any one visiting london
T. S.
What s special visit this was. Arrived at the right time for the service. Very emotional and touching. The Abbey is hard to describe, but you have to see the incredible architecture and busts, portraits and atmospheric emotions when you there. Must visit x unbelievable
R. B. H.
One of the oldest historical landmark in Westminster, London.
The Abbey has been a place of regular Christian worship since they founded as a Benedictine monastery in 960AD.
Like many buildings in London, Westminster Abbey suffered some damage during the bombing raids of World War Two. But daily worship continued, and historic artefacts survived.
Every year, the Abbey welcomes over one million visitors who want to explore this wonderful 700-year-old building - the coronation church of England.
S. Z.
Amazing, must see I was shocked how big and full of rich history this is
A. H.
Amazing structure with ton's of history. We hired a Blue Badge Guide who brought the building's history to life with all of their stories. Much better than wandering around and missing everything right in front of you.

Westminster Abbey, formally titled the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster, is a large, mainly Gothic abbey church in the City of Westminster, London, England, just to the west of the Palace of Westminster. It is one of the United Kingdom's most notable religious buildings and the traditional place of coronation and burial site for English and, later, British monarchs. The building itself was a Benedictine monastic church until the monastery was dissolved in 1539. Between 1540 and 1556, the abbey had the status of a cathedral. Since 1560, the building is no longer an abbey or a cathedral, having instead the status of a Church of England "Royal Peculiar"—a church responsible directly to the sovereign.
According to a tradition first reported by Sulcard in about 1080, a church was founded at the site (then known as Thorn Ey (Thorn Island)) in the seventh century, at the time of Mellitus, a Bishop of London. Construction of the present church began in 1245, on the orders of King Henry III.
Since the coronation of William the Conqueror in 1066, all coronations of English and British monarchs have been in Westminster Abbey. There have been 16 royal weddings at the abbey since 1100.As the burial site of more than 3,300 persons, usually of prominence in British history (including at least sixteen monarchs, eight Prime Ministers, poets laureate, actors, scientists, military leaders, and the Unknown Warrior), Westminster Abbey is sometimes described as 'Britain's Valhalla', after the iconic hall of the chosen heroes in Norse mythology.
C. s.
The big ben and the parliament are under construction, not the best time to visit them.
Place is crowded of course, but you dont have to wait much to take a nice picture.
J. S.
Enjoyed the program here. My friends had a nice nap though. Some were getting restless without their phones. They are not used to being without using their phone for 45 minutes.
m. c.
Beautiful, architecture truly amazing. Look what was achieved by such modern, innovative people. One of my favourite places to visit.
L. M.
Rich with history a must see
R. K.
Bless....beauty....peace. What a sublime breathtaking place. Special thanks to the young Reverend responsible for the holy communion at 8am on 9 Oct 2021, inspiring.
R. P.
Best to visit this place during the non peak months (fall, winter, spring). Entrance fee is pricey at £20+/person. With the fee I expected that they will at least control guests volume. I did not enjoy my visit as there were just too many people and you are forced to move on to accommodate the in coming crowd. The audio tour device was also not very intuitive and limited. Photos are also not allowed ☹️
J. M.
Beautiful building full of interesting sights.
A. O.
For the history, the majesty and the architecture - this is the one tourist spot that I would recommend above all others, at least to see the monuments to Newton, Darwin, Maxwell, Faraday and Hawking.
P. B.
Beautiful... Architectural wonder ... The Abbey has seen so many historic events ... If you are visiting London you must take time out to visit .. the Abbey closes early so get in the queue early.. also book your tickets in advance so that you don't have to waste time at the ticket counter ... The place is treasure trove for pictures and memorabilia
T. P.
Allways love going pass here . One of the most important historical and cultural symbol in London .next to the Parliament, and all other main official buildings
K. A.
Westminster Abbey, formally titled the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster, is a large, mainly Gothic abbey church in the City of Westminster, London, England, ...
Tower height: 225 feet (69 m)
Number of towers: 2
Bells: 10
Floor area: 32,000 square feet (3,000 m2)
N. N.
A very special place of worship
F. Z.
This place is just awesome. I had seen it in pictures for years and swore I would make the trip. It did not disappoint, the architecture, the sheer size is all just amazing. The choral tunes, the murals and atmosphere are just peaceful. Another must see if you are in London
N. G.
Looked pretty from the outside but very expensive to tour the inside (24 pounds but when we exchanged that into dollars, yes we're Americans, it was over $30 per person) so we ended up not viewing the inside because that's just way too expensive.
E. T.
It feels like waking into a different era, another time in history.
The whole city is amazing but the Abbey has so many highlights and details of what London is all about.
I would like to go back and visit again
Take your time and enjoy the area

Westminster Abbey is a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded in London around the year 960AD. This is one of the most important sights in the country and a place that is well worth including on your must-see list of attractions.
This is the sight of English coronations, weddings and funerals processions for the monarchy for the past millennium. It is also the resting place of many important figures throughout British history, probably the most remarkable collection of tombs in the English speaking world.
Entry price is a bit steep at (£18.00 per adult and £8.00 per child) but entry includes a very good audio guide, narrated by Jeremy Irons, that helps you identify important tombs and understand other things you are seeing. There is also a handheld brochure map that you can use to help navigate your way around the abbey and grounds. Do make sure you pick this up once inside.
In addition to the many important tombs and other interesting things to see, the abbey itself is a gothic masterpiece, with a attractive nave, vaulted arches, stained glass windows and other classic gothic architecture that provides the perfect medieval feel for this attraction.
While visiting, try to make time to also see St Margaret's Church in the courtyard, the Abbey Museum, lovely Chapel House and Cloister. There is also a Abbey Garden that you can visit, the Cellarium Cafe found in a 14th century store room and gift shop at Westminster Abbey as well. Altogether, you can easily spend 1.5 - 2.5 hours here if you use the audio guide visit the rest of the abbey grounds leisurely.
Tip: A great way to visit Westminster is to arrive around 8.50 am in the morning, allowing you to hear Big Ben sound off at 9am. Then, you can make your way over to Westminster Abbey to queue for the opening at 9.30am.
If you are in a group, one member can stand in the queue, while the rest of your party walk across the street to Parliament Square to see the statues of important historical figures found there or you can walk around the abbey to admire the Gothic architectural exterior of the abbey.
Then it will be time to enter Westminster Abbey at 9.30am to begin your visit.
B. Y.
Really really beautiful. Lots of poets, scientists, kings and queens’ monuments stand here. Gorgeous!
S. K. S.
A surreal feeling and strong energy vibes which induce peace and a sense of calm. The architecture is marvelous and the audio guide is really helpful which is included with the entry ticket. It is one of the major attractions in London, and serpentine queues are a norm here.A must visit though!!
R.
Spectacular and a must see if you're visiting London. Pictures will not do it justice. I suggest taking your time and taking it all in.
E. D.
Went on a cruise along River Thames and saw all the beautiful historical buildings, sights and all. It was an amazing experience, heard a lot about the history of the buildings along the river shore, about the commercial part of London and Westmister. The houses of parliament. It was indeed beautiful. The boat cruise is highly recommended.
C. M.
We were there in June 2019. It was very crowded with a long line (almost 2 hours) to get in. But it was worth the wait, beautiful church with so much history. The list of burials that have been done there alone are enough for pause. Must see while in London.
M. M.
An icon of Great Britain and of course London. Not actually toured inside but hope I get to one day. It's so impressive just from the outside. Beautiful architecture and amazing stone work done by craftsmen 100s of years ago. Absolutely amazing that it has survived the blitz in WWII virtually unscathed. Very close to other major attractions in London and 2 mins walk from Westminster Underground station.
A. G. D.
Wow so many people buries here. Extraordinary tour. Amazing architecture plus all the royals marry and are crownes here. henry Viii and queens Jane should be moved here
H. W. H.
A fantastic place, and I strongly recommend it. The best and most emotional part are the Graves 🪦 of Stephen Hawking, Isaac Newton, Charles Dickens, Darwin and more.
C. R.
To see Our Lady of Walsingham placed in the heart of our nation was a wondrous event.
Unfortunately, most of the time this church comes across as more of a tourist attraction than a place of worship, with the faithful being kept outside in the cold until exactly fifteen minutes before a service, to make way for the paying visitors.
C. B.
Absolutely enormous, with a chapel inside the chapel. I was very impressed by the Poets corner and the Lady' Chapel ceiling. Pictures are not allowed inside but you can visit the surrounding area and still took some.
I totally recommend a visit especially because of the extremely useful information contained by the audio guide. I spent a lot of time in the quire area to listen all the details.
J. X.
London pass covers entrance fee for Westminster Abbey and free audio guide given. Do check out and avoid visiting during the service hour as some parts will be closed for the service. Otherwise you may join the service and continue the visit thereafter :)
S. R.
Beautiful church. The audio tour was wonderful. They have a kid and adult audio tour. Mine was acidentally set for the kids one. Someone helped me change it over. The adult tour gives more information and has less cute lions on it.
Many famous people are buried here so it's neat to see all of them. Fair warning, the only bathroom we were able to find you had to go outdoors to get too. People were nice about directing us there. There were also many places to sit along the tour.
The gift shop outside the church was nice. I think there was a place you cpuld eat as well, but we didn't visit there.
E. I.
A wonderful day out and a huge surprise that we could explore parts of the Abbey we never knew was possible. London is full of surprises even after many years
M. M.
Well worth visiting although the entry costs are quite pricey. Gone are the days when you could visit such national treasures for free and just make a donation. But these fees go to maintaining this historic place so I don't begrudge the entry cost.
I had no idea this place was home to the Tombs of so many English Kings and Queens. This was the highlight for me. Also Poet's corner where many famous literary figures are buried or commemorated.
The multimedia guide is very good, included in the entry price, available in different languages and provided with headset for hands free experience. No photography allowed in the main part of the Abbey.
I would recommend buying tickets online in advance as this is a very popular tourist attraction with long queues.
You also have access to the Cloisters and Chapter House. There are toilets here as well.
D. M.
It is a life time privilege to be stood next to some of the greatest mind in human history and also inspiring kings and queen. Coming here should be a pilgrimage.
T. g.
A must do in london. The audio tour is great and very detailed. I'd recommend getting tickets online for a discount and fast entry. 21 pound for an adult. The history and architecture is amazing. Either go early morning or late afternoon to avoid queues. Expect an hour wait and it will take around 1.5 hours to go through.
A. W.
One of my favorite places in London! The audio guide is fantastic! The interior is absolutely stunning. The abby is usually only open from 9-3:30 so you would probably want to visit in the morning so that you don't feel rushed.
P. D.
The abbey is a wonderful example of Gothic architecture and is crammed with the who's who of English history and culture! It was so exciting to revisit the Abby and yet feel as though it was the first time. This is a must!
B. V.
Incredible amount of history in every corner. And the cathedral is a masterpiece of architecture. Well recommended, though a bit pricey.
C.
Went to a sunday service and the choir was amazing. Such pefection in pitch is hard to hear anyone else. Just remember no pictures inside durring servce. The guy next to me was thrown out.
J. A.
It was beautiful but closed. So check the access times. So for me, like a supermodel. Pretty on the outside, not sure what's going on inside.
B.
Went out on the first night at 11pm and didnt expect to see much. Followed the London Eye and happened to find the Westminister Abbey lit up! Well worth going out at night to see the big landmarks, as they will most likely be nicely lit up for photos. Although the lights do turn off at 12am.
F. W.
This beautiful building is well worth a visit. Have a look around the cloisters is visiting- really interesting and it looks like something out of a Harry Potter movie.
E. O.
Wow. This isn't so much a visit to a church but to a history museum. Admission is a little steep but it includes the audio tour which was fantastic. The tour has about an hour of material, and overall we spent about 2 hours in the minster. Staff was also exceptional, including the clergy who would stop to talk to people to answer questions.
م. ا.
One of the top tourist attractions in London. The Abbey has a rich history. There are a lot of people buried inside the abbey, including Kings of England, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, and many others. Photos are not allowed inside the Abbey. Start early as the lines can be quite long.
C. D.
Very interesting place for history fans. The digital tour machines cut out a few times which interrupted the experience, but overall it was a very entertaining and fulfilling time.
S. W.
Rich in history, this was one of my favorite places we visited in London. The abbey is much larger than I thought. We did one of the free tours, and it lasted over an hour, and was very informative. We also did the tower tour, which gave excellent views. The cons: it was a 45 minute wait to get in, might be better to go in with a tour group, and you cannot take pictures inside.
A. v. V.
One of the must visit places in central London, the audio tour (which is really good - we opted for the highlights) is included in the ticket price, which gives you a lot of information on the fascinating history of this place. I would suggest booking your ticket in advance though, as the lines can be a bit much if you don't.
R. W.
This is a must in London if you have any interest in history or of the famous remains entombed here. The scale and architecture are amazing and the history that has occurred within the walls is palpable. Sadly, photography inside the Abbey is prohibited.
D. S.
Amazing location of Royal Weddings stunning architecture and burial place of some of tge most important people in our history.
L. L. Y.
The structure itself and everything around it is a work of art and history. Lovely place to visit. In most areas photos are not allowed though
B.
Tour tickets are cheaper purchased online. There is an option of an audio guide as well. Immensely impressive edifice which has so much history within and in its walls. For those who prefer attending the even song, it starts at 445- 500 pm. A landmark destination in London
M. P.
Such a beautiful Abbey, went for a Christmas concert, it was the perfect setting with the choir singing in that environment
W. W. G.
This is the best authentic historical place to visit. Nothing has been restored or retouched in terms of the stones, and artifacts. You really feel like you have gone back in time. You cannot take photos inside.
So take your time, because you will have to take it all in.
Audio tour is included with the price of the ticket. Purchasing on-line only saves you £2.00. So no need to purchase prior.
Follow the audio tour, it provides great information and where to walk to next.
A. B.
Beautiful building worth a visit
S. J.
Must see when in London! Take the tube to get around but mind the gap.Get yourself a oyster card which is there local mta municipal transportation authority card. Which they sell at all train depots when you put money into the machine. Even 5 pounds will get you 5 pounds on card.
A. v. O.
Amazing, very historic place. Fantastic audio/video tour available in different languages and possibility to ask information at the ‘crew’ of the church.
J. M.
The most magnificent structure I've ever been in. The history of the items within are humbling to say the least.
s.
I brought mom here in 2015, for me, it is the 4th visit, mom was so happy and i remember the oldest door in britain
D. R.
This is must see if your in London but pre-purchase your tickets, the lines are very long. Once inside you will be amazed by the history and sheer the size of abbey.
No photographs/video are allowed inside.
S. J.
My most favourite church in London as one of the most sacret place to come and pray. This church was held the coronation for the Queen and royal marriages, including the royal funeral too. A great deal of U.K. histories are tied and involved with Wesminster Abbey. My faith and spirit is lifted up at this place and I hope so for all prayers. Amen
C. G.
Ok, so this place is obviously beautiful and worth seeing. That said, the line was atrocious. At least an hour. I talked to the robed clerk; you can avoid the line by buying the London pass or directly from the West minister Abbey website. Buy the tickets there.
V. W.
A wonderful place with a lot of relics!
I strongly recommend this place if you visit London!
The audio tour is very good, with a lot if details if you are interested.
The lost soldier’s tomb, the coronation chair and king George V grave are just few of the things you will find inside.
Please note that shooting pictures inside is not permitted!
I recommended to buy the London pass, with or without Oyster, or online tickets, as the queue for on the door tickets is very long.
My recommendation is to take the pass with the oyster transportation included.
(Uber is working great in London, it has many options too)
D. H.
Fascinating place lots to discover
R. L.
Incredible building. It has some unique details in regards with the construction if you compare it with other Abbey's or church's on London. I attended to Easter service and the experience was incredible .
N. D.
Great experience. Got to see a lot of famous Britains buried here such as William Wilberforce, Isaac Newton, Stephen Hawking, Charles Dickens, George Handel, many of Great Britain's kings buried during the middle ages just to name a few. The architecture is magnificent. Minus 1 star because you can't take photos inside. Also you should buy your tickets online because they'll let you right in.
M. H.
History, beauty, serenity..and the tombs of a few of my ancestors 😉. Amazing place
D. C.
If your are interested in fine historical buildings, religion and British history you should make time to visit here.
T. A. -. F. L.
Passing & stopping in front of the beautiful Abbey lots of times, and so happy to be able to see the colourful lights at the historical building during lumiere festival January 2018.
J. D.
the 70th jubilee for the queen exhibition is fantastic i highly recommend it
K. M.
Can't be missed! Reserve tickets online in advance. Included with admission is the electronic tour guide. Allow 2 hours but you could easily spend all day. Restrooms and food available for purchase in adjacent crypt section at the end of the tour. Earlier in the day = less crowds. No pictures allowed inside. Rich history. Rich beauty.
E. D.
Wonderful 1000 years old silverware left out.!!!. Couldnt take pictures inside. Audio and visual very informative money well spent. Theatre tonight.
E. R.
I attended Christmas mass here and it was beautiful!! I love how big the cathedral is.
s.
Serene, beautiful and peaceful.
Very high arches, beautiful chandeliers and unmatched architecture
S. C.
Another place really .it locked up can't go inside just have to watch though the fence
H. M.
A beautiful historic cathedral with statues and gargoyles in every nook and cranny. Many tombs of kings and queens as well as other important people in the history of Great Britain. A must visit when in London. Plan on 1 to 2 hours to properly see everything. Also, if possible take in an organ concert on Sunday’s at 5:45 PM. The concerts are free.
l. g.
Didn't get to go in because of the time I went but the architecture was absolutely beautiful. The stall outside were super helpful and incredibly nice.
J. R.
Amazing architecture. Amazing history. And a functioning church. Could have spent lots of time here... Audio guide was helpful, but brief. Would love a guided tour next time.
M. B.
Short walk from the Thames or Big Ben - Westminster Abbey is a must-see structure in London, significant venue in British history. Beautiful gothic church, Unesco World Heritage Site very popular among Lonodon visitors.
It is the Coronation church of UK monarch.
J. H.
Very historical church. Make sure you get there before service times on Sunday otherwise you won’t be able to visit. Definitely worth the stop!
B. E.
Beautiful medieval cathedral in Westminster. You can get an audio guide, a guided tour or wander on your own throughout the grounds. With the help of a map of the abbey and some Latin, you can identify most of the famous of the interred. Especially notable are Elizabeth I and her sister Mary I and Mary Queen of Scots. Henry VIIs tomb is impressive as well. Near the exit you can find Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin and the recent addition of Stephen Hawking. No photos are allowed inside the abbey. It is truly breathtaking. Open later on Wednesday.
M. A.
Definitely worth the visit, you can’t take many photos indoors though. I attended a Sunday morning service (I’m not Protestant but it was quite moving)
C. W.
A very special sacred place. Came to choral evensong on a Sunday. We were made to feel very welcome. Recommended for anyone, whether you're used to this kind of service or not.
J. G.
An enjoyable and rewarding visit to the Abbey for the Irish Chaplaincy #WalkwithHope event on Thursday.
J. L. N.
I have only the privilege of distance. I have never even been in England, BUT I would give ANYTHING to just stand NEAR the structure that RICHARDs I, II, AND III passed through...Alexander Pope, Elizabeth I, [Samuel Clemens for that matter]; THE tens of THOUSANDS OF HISTORICAL FIGURES THAT HAVE PASSED THROUGH THESE HALLS in the past thousand years. All praise TEN STARS! Anyone who even gives THE SLIGHTEST CRITICISM FOR ANY REASON should not be allowed in the building or near it... MY GOD!!!! IT SURVIVED THE BLITZ! GET REAL AND GET GRATEFUL I ENvY ANYONE WHO HAS HAD THE distinct PRIVELIGE TO BE WITH TWENtY MILES OF THIS GRAND HISTORIC STRUCTURE BOO TO THE SLIGHTEST CRITICISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
B. R.
Amazing place to visit. How did they erect these buildings so perfectly so long ago
W. E.
This is must if you are in London but try to go when it's not too busy - check the queues. It's quite expensive but it includes an audio tour. I spent 2 plus hours there excluding time spent in the College Garden and the Cellarium Restaurant. This Anglican Abbey has been the coronation church since 1066 and is steeped in history, and if tombs of famous people are your thing the this is the place to be: Elizabeth I, Henry VIII, Geoffrey Chaucer, GF Handel are but a mere few. Also to see is the Coronation Chair commissioned in 1296 by Edward I where British monarchs are crowned and the Grave of the Unknown Soldier. Check the website if you can for opening times and when there are closures for events. Photos are not allowed but you can download some from the website.
J. Y.
It’s an amazing architecture, witnessing many historical importance.
A. R. B.
Nice to take a walk and see it from outside. If you want to enter, be aware that even in late November it was quite a big queue.
T. Z. M.
Nice church, must go.
L. v. D.
Wow, all these great names burried in the same place... I was fangirling in the science corner and poet corner. Of course the church is nice as well.
M. M.
It's a beautiful building. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to visit inside due to arriving late in the afternoon. If you want to enter the building and perhaps hear its choir (which I eagerly want to hear), you should make sure the schedule first on its website.
S. B.
I went to the interment of Dr. Stephen Hawking at Westminster Abbey, and it was amazing. The building and grounds were phenomenal, and it was neat to see a place with centuries of history.
A. B.
Must visit place. Well maintained and magnificent interiors.
j. m.
Breathtaking walk through history. You don't want to pass this beautiful cathedral. Take the tour and make sure you go upstairs in the newly renovated addition. Amazing!
T. H.
Full of history, you can spend at least 2 hours, you have audio guide included.
V. N.
A place with a lot of architecture. They give you an audioguide with explanatory video
Hard as 1h and 30 min to see it whole. No photos are allowed inside
Un lugar con mucha arquitectura. Te dan un audioguide con video explicativo
Duras como 1h y 30 min para verlo entero. No se permiten fotos en el interior.
N. J.
Really mesmerizing ! Views of the Victoria tower , Parliament house just take your breath away, not to mention the scores of relics inside with the Knights room that's looks just perfect !💐
W. R.
An amazing place, full of atmosphere, the statue's, tombs, and plagues are astounding along with the stonemasonary. It is really worth a visit.
J. M.
So much history. I never knew it was so big, and that it held so many tombs of old Kings and Queens and other royals. Some of them are over a thousand years old. Amazing, and the building itself is simply stunning.
C. D.
Wonderful Abbey, i assisted the Crib Service in the Xmas Eve...amazing service also funny and culturally deep! Touching prayers and chants.
K. G.
Westminster abbey is the popular and iconic churches in London
It’s tower heigh is about 225 feet and it is now turned to be a Church of England 🏴
It is an iconic building
And has loads of heritage to it
It’s on the banks of river Thames
At a walkable distance from the Big Ben
N. S.
Excellent! Well worth the short wait. Friendly to London Pass holders. PAY THE EXTRA FEE TO GO UPSTAIRS!! The views from the staircase alone are worth it. The view from the top is beautiful and they're a little more relaxed about photos.
W. B. I.
Lovely church. Would recommend buying your tickets online in advance. That'll save you 2 pounds per ticket and you get fast tracked! Hope you enjoy the visit as much as we did.
C. V.
This was a good take, we learned a lot about the past kings and queens. Get here early, though. We arrived around 9:15 and went right in, the lines are awful around mid day.
F. S.
This place is amazing. Go for morning prayer, it starts 7:30 AM. Let's Your day begins with Blessing!
A. T.
The best attraction in London bar none. That much abused cliché – "a sense of history" – was probably coined within its walls. Part monument to God and royal power, part architectural gem, part giant graveyard. Re the latter, walk slowly here or you'll miss the resting places of some really great names - Charles Darwin, William Wilberforce, Stephen Hawking, Rudyard Kipling and Handel to name a few.
I would give it five stars but for the irritating lack of signs. A few of the most famous corpses are well marked but many of the royal tombs are not and you’ll struggle to find them unless you're fluent in Latin and can read the inscriptions.
P. S.
Couldn't mistake this iconic place in London. It didn't take too much time to get inside and see the wonderful interior, graves, an decor.
H. D.
This audio tour is absolutely amazing! There are usually long queques to get inside so I recommend buying your tickets online to skip the the wait!!! It’s a must see for sure as so much history is inside and there are so many people buried here.
M. K.
Emotional and proud to see such a large attendance on Remembrance Sunday
T. Q.
Another absolutely beautiful London attraction. Bounds of history like royal weddings, funerals etc. And stunning architecture.
It's recently undergoing renovations to restore the brick colour to white (had gone yellow with age and pollution) so looks great.
Often busy here especially during holiday season, but it never seems too busy! The staff are very enthusiastic and helpful. I definitely recommend a tour.
D. L. B.
The seat of the British government's legislative branch, the Parliament, is perhaps one of the most icon buildings in the world.
Y. A.
Must visit place in London! Nice architecture! A place where Isaac Newton is buried.
P. M.
Well worth a visit.
L. L.
Methodist Central Hall is across from Westminister Abby. It was a wonderful place for me to visit since I am a Methodist minister in America.
L.
A large and a great looking church, too bad the entry had such a high cost. It was over 20£ per person, I assume there is a lot to see and it would be overflowing if it was free to enter, but still it was a bit too high.
i. b.
Westminster Abbey - A wealth of History
Not sure why it has taken me such along time to visit, but really pleased I did and will do so again.
So much history , architecture, Royalty and religious buildings. Too much to take in on one visit but will definitely be back.
M. R.
There is a cost associated to entering this location which I think is ridiculous also photography is not permitted inside this location which I also think is ridiculous there's lots of security inside here so don't try to take pictures the visuals are absolutely stunning and I would definitely recommend stopping here to see this place because it is an absolute Wonder the craftsmanship is absolutely breathtaking there are lots of famous people buried inside this place which is also worth a c you can walk through the crypts I'm old English monarchs and there are also audio guides available so you can walk around and play the audio guide and they will give you a self-guided tour
S. P.
Such a beautiful building. Took pictures of it during multiple days. Located in a very busy spot in Westminster. Didn't visit inside.
E. H.
A fantastic place with so much history in the entrance you get headphones and phone for the tour
D. H.
I love Westminster Abbey. I visited over 30 years ago. I would give five stars, but today you can't take pictures. I used up two rolls of film on the last visit. Today, with my grown children, I only have pics of the facade. That's a shame. As a teacher, I would love to give a slide show of the Abbey to my West Virginia students. This is a real shame that I can't.
I lit a candle for a dying friend and said a prayer. There was another moment when the entire place was called to a moment of prayer. The Abbey is a functioning church, and it was inspiring to be reminded of the hundreds of years of worshippers that had gone before me. The weight of tradition is tangible.
My favorite place is Poets Corner. But anyone familiar with any British history will love Westminster Abbey. It's a treasure.
P. M.
Absolutely breathtaking! So much history. Highly recommend an audio tour.
M. J. H.
A landmark for gothic architecture and you get to see newton's grave. I had to pay for the audio guide.
A. N.
Definitely one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen! We did the walking tour that is included with the London Pass, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The line was quite long to get in, about an hour, but honestly it was well worth it. I would recommend arriving when it opens to save some time.
E. F.
On, so I know it is Westminster Abbey, but I was disappointed. It didn't seem like there was much......Church....there. it was basically a historical trip through British history with crypts and memorials to various kings, military leaders, and cultural figures. I enjoyed Notre Dame and La Sagrada Familia much more.
c.
Poor timing on my behalf. I visited on the day that it was closed, but even from the outside it was worth seeing; however, I thought it would be larger than what it is.
Certainly visit Westminster Abbey, when visiting Clock Tower area.
There are so many other buildings and points of interest to take in, in such a gathered spot. It almost seems as though one attraction leads to another.
M. M.
Gorgeous building, such intricate architecture. There is nothing like it!
Simply beautiful!
C. L.
Excellent visit with a map and audio guide that has visuals on a small screen. I thought it was expensive when I booked, but now I've been I can appreciate why.
N. P.
An expensive visit - but you're able to get in for free if you go their service. NOTE that you are not able to see the entire Abbey - only a portion of it (if you're there for service). They check tickets if you leave the area. They do not allow pictures inside.
j.
Pricey and the family ticket was misleading. However, it was brilliant within.
O. G.
Great experience. A milenial building that has a lot of history and great place to visit get your tickets online and make sure to printed them before.
L. C.
Beautiful, Holy Evensong service led by the choir wad the perfect way to end our visit.
c. w.
Beautiful! Worth visiting and it's so close to parliament, big Ben, and the London eye.
D. T.
It's a beautiful place. There is an amazing amount of history here. However, it was very crowded and I'm not sure it was worth the entry price.
L. G.
Absolutely fab place to visit. We also did the Jubilee tour which cost an extra fiver but had such interesting exhibits. Such a fascinating place dripping in history. It was quiet during our visit which made it more intimate. Downside of Covid meant we could not pay respects to Mary Queen of Scots which I would loved to have done. However I understood and respected why this was closed to the public. Only negative was the limited opening times and the time it took to process guests. However it was a lovely day and queuing in the sun was no hardship.
R. A.
The Westminster Abbey is a delight for history/architecture buffs. Situated close to the Houses of Parliament, it is an elegant monument which has stood through the test of time over nearly 1000 years.
There is a ridiculously high entry fee of £22 per adult. You also get an audio guide, which I found to be below par and not quite detailed. Photography is not permitted inside, which is also very annoying as this building has such a rich history and is the final resting place for great people such as Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, David Livingstone, Chaucer, Rudyard Kipling and many royals.
There is generally a waiting of about an hour during morning hours, so come in early. The entire visit takes about 2-3 hours depending on your pace. You can also see what is supposedly Britain's oldest door towards the end. I highly recommend visiting this Abbey as it's an integral part of Britain's history and will leave you spellbound.
Y. T. H.
Very wonderful place to visit. Absolutely need to go inside and there will give a electric guidance to show around the story of the history. A little sad is that can’t take pictures here.
S. T.
Despite being an atheist I've visited many churches and cathedrals around Europe. This is perhaps one of the strangest I've been to. While it does still conduct religious services my sense was that it felt more like a cemetery or mausoleum. It's gone to the burials or memorials of a huge number of significant, and not so significant, people from the past 1000 years of English and British history. The difference in scale of commemoration between "important" and "unimportant" people is sometimes jarring, and occasionally amusing
Added to that you've got royal tombs and the history of pageantry of the place. Grab an audio guide to help you see everything, and keep your eyes open for other folk on your way around. They sometimes have tour guides showing visitors around too, and they're great at breathing more life and detail into the setting.
If you like your history be prepared to spend a few hours here
S. E.
Beautiful architecture.
Pros: Lovely staff, I was needing a restroom for my baby and they took me there in no time.
Cons: Not nice guidance (device) and expensive but it was worthy.
D. S.
Worth the visit!
It has a lot of amazing things to see! A must go!
S. G.
Amazing, historical tribute to many who built this country. The Queen's Jubillee exhibit was so interesting. Loved it! Btw, this was taken in the corridor on the way out, as photos are not permitted inside. You may wish to purchase a guide book. Some tour bookings include one
R. S.
By far my favorite place to visit while in London. No pictures allowed inside.
S. D.
The depth of history contained within the Abbey is to be marvelled. You cannot take it all in within one visit
J. T.
I would have easily given this wonderful building a 5 stay review except for the fact that you have to pay to enter, and no pictures are allowed inside. In Rome, there is no fee to enter buildings, and pictures are ok. It just caught me off guard. That being the case, what a beautiful and historic building. It is a must see, just don't go on Sunday since it is closed. We saw the exterior then, and can back to go inside on Monday.
My rating system consists of a 3-star being exactly what you expected and neither good nor bad. A 4 means something was extra special and a 5 means you were blown away. A 2 star rating was disappointing and a 1-star rating is terrible
G. D.
I'm not sure how one can sum up Westminster Abbey. It's simply an overwhelming amount of history in one site. Visit the graves of Elizabeth I, Chaucer, and Stephen Hawking in an ornate and ever-changing historic monastery and church. Host of the coronations since 1066 and 16 royal weddings. A must visit.
C. M.
Recommend come early. Crowds later in the day. What a history lesson. Headset for the narrative is a must. Downside, even with respect, not permitted to take pictures. Go to other countries including Scotland it's permitted in their castles and church's. Go to France, able to take pictures even at the Louvre. Stuck in their old ways!
A. N.
C. B.
Magnificent! Even though we did not go inside.. the buildings around made it amazing picture experience!
J. B.
Audio or self guided tour options. The Abbey has incredible architecture and statues and artwork. The gardens are peaceful and a great place to take a break before you take in more. Services are still held inside.
V. H.
It's my third favourite Abbey after Tintern and Glastonbury... #ExtinctionRebellion April 2019
S. F.
Amazing how many crosses were there. Even on a very cold day you really had to stop to look.
Plus inside the Abbey you just felt calmness.
A. S.
Nice historic place. Worth to see even when you need to wait a bit in the queue.
G. M.
On what was a quieter day (28th August), there was less than 5 people in the queue, so this was one London attraction where fast-track entry was not required.
Inside was still quite busy, however the flow through the Abbey appears to have been assisted by the restriction in taking photos.
The architecture, artefacts (eg: Coronation Chair, Unknown Warrior grave) and stained glass windows are breathtaking.
With many monarchs and world-greats buried here, it was a little eerie walking on their final resting places.
The most moving of those buried at the Abbey was the plaque for Stephen Hawking who passed away in 2018.
Allow about 1 - 1.5 hours.
K. D.
If you are into history you will love love love Westminster Abbey! I did!
T. M.
Stunning,. The history , reasonable price (£18 ) . What's not to like , would highly reccomend when in London , and would definitely visit agsin
G. T.
I have been inside, I highly recommend going great both during the day and also esp at night when you walk parliament and up Westminster bridge the lights are beautiful. There is the new David Hockney window which was also installed and is lovely.
K. H.
Definitely worth having a look at his3
T. B.
Ok , but there are other abbey's that you can visit that are just as good , if not better, much cheaper than this place, for example Tewkesbury Abbey is free....
D. B.
Stunning. Hard to find a better word. Absolutely stunning. The architecture, the sculptures, the splendor. The only downside of these huge cathedrals and Abbey is that with all the memorials and tombs, it feels more like a cemetery than a church at times.
M. H.
After entering the queue with the electric wheelchair we could skip it completely. Was about 1h and go directly into the church. The staff guided us through and was very friendly.
G. P.
Beautiful and historic, Westminster Abbey should be on your list of places to visit if you’re in London. Visit the graves of some of history’s most important figures, from scientists to writers to musicians. Don’t let the lines scare you; take the tours.
R. C.
Magnificent building,so full of history.
A must see building.
L. H.
Impressive building very interesting marvellous tombs of the famous historical notables
M.
WOW! If you like history, science or art, this is the place to visit. The sheer number of people buried here is overwhelming. From Handel, my favourite composer, to scientists like Darwin, Newton and Stephen Hawking. And, of course, all those kings and queens we learn about in history. You can also have a titter at some ridiculous, anachronistic inscriptions which would thankfully never be allowed today (Livingstone was "evangelising native races" - funny how history has been re-written to present him today as an "explorer"). History has its dark memories, but the heritage in this place is breath-taking. Though I am not a religious person myself, I do appreciate the spiritual element for believers. The people working here are wonderfully helpful and the atmosphere is extremely welcoming. Excellent organisation. Highly recommended.
L. B.
We spent hours there and loved it!! Pay for the guided tour you learn so much by it.
M. G.
Expensive but impressive & interesting
J. B.
Amazing piece of British history. Anyone can attend the services but the tour is £23
Bit expensive.
B. L.
It seems strange to an American to have graves within the church but the history just can't be ignored. This site has seen every major event in London since the dawn of Christianity.
U. #.
Great historic location! If your a tourist in London this is a must see attraction.
B. W.
Beautiful church. The architecture is amazing and you don't get to see that often. Did go ín and it was amazing. Bought a little souvenir in the Westminster Abbey shop. Great experience
s. f.
I have not gone inside as I cannot justify £24 entry. But I guess I will one day.
G. G.
You could spend days touring this special place. The audio tour is a great way to get the basics. I found the tombs fascinating, here is a picture of my favorite. Any know his famous ships name?
D. D.
Very nice place. I've been here before the pandemic and the queue to get inside the Abbey was quite large but I don't know now. I'd have liked to get inside of it since it's wonderful. I recommend the visit and buying something in its souvenir shop.
L. A. d. L.
The London Lumière show at the Westminster Abbey is amazing. At first glance it seems to be painted. The colours are astounding. A visit this week is definitely a must for those who happen to be in London
G. w.
Amazing Architecture, history. A must do if visiting London
L. G.
The Royal Wedding tour of the Abbey is a new addition to the guided tours and takes you to parts of the Abbey that you wouldn't normally be able to go into. You need a general admission ticket on top of the additional tour ticket, but can spend time looking around by yourself after the tour.
C.
Amazing church with a fascinating history. It was such an experience to walk amongst where many greats have walked or is their final resting place. I came on Wednesday evening where tickets were cheaper.
D. F.
Get here early so you can get inside before the big crowds. No pictures allowed inside.
D. C.
Went to the chapter house and pyx chapel
V. R.
Nice to visit, entertainment for kids as well
S. B.
What a fabulous building, its a lovely place to visit.
J. J.
It is incredible to see so many headstones from historical characters in one place. It feels like traveling through time.
D. A.
It is seriously spectacular! Sad but we didn't get to tour bc of our short stay. Adding to the list for next time (hopefully minus Brexit issues, street closures, and protesters.)
V. R.
Truly amazing historic site. A must see for the great artistic work throughout the abbey. Memorials for Sir Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday are just a few of all those who have been at rest here. St Edward, King Henri, Queen Mary memorials are few of many must see memorials in addition to quite a few chapels.

Rich in history, Westminister Abbey is an unforgettable experience. Founded as a large Benedictine monastery, it continues today to reflect something of that tradition through a disciplined life of prayer, work and study.

Westminster Abbey.
This is the collegiate church of St. Peter in Westminster, London. Built-in the year 1245.
This church only a walking distance from the BigBen.
From outside this is similar to other churches, but I saw a very long line of people queuing to go inside.
What makes this Gothic Chuch is so special?
The church has been the coronation church nearly all the kings and queens of England have been crowned here from the year of 1066 and is the final resting place of 17 monarchs.
And for your info, this church also the place for a Wedding of some royal family members such as Prince Albert, Duke of York, and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and more.
If you want to go to see inside, please standby early at the open time of the church about 09.30 otherwise, please spend at least a half-day in queuing to go inside.
I wasn't lucky enough to choose one from the above alternatives and only take a picture from outside.

We didn't get in. Since visiting times are only, 3-4 times a week. But it sure as hell is magnificent to walk by as well.

Monumental Building. Very Elegant

Interesting place with lots of history. Saw Mary Queen of Scots tomb among others. Great architecture
何.
Honestly, this is the most magnificent cathedral in the UK. Though photography is prohibited inside it, I still couldn’t forget how marvelous and sophisticated the sculptures as well as the wall painting are.

Absolutely love this building, designed with precision and detail. Love everything London 😊

Westminster Abbey really is as awe-inspiring as you'd imagine it to be. There's almost too much to see, with every wall, tomb, flagstone and plaque telling the story of someone dead famous. We paid extra for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Galleries upstairs, which was well worth it, with yet more artefacts and history to wade through, but with far fewer people getting in the way. It's worth paying just for the view down to the abbey floor below. A lift provides access to the galleries for those with mobility considerations.

Absolutely brilliant place to visit for a history lesson before your eyes.

First time viewing Westminister Abbey was on the night of the Fireworks of NYE in the queue!
But the day after when viewing, it’s an amazing place to view! So much to learn and the building is just beautiful.

The majesty of this imposing gothic building strikes one when standing in front of its impressive entrance. It is said to be the most important example of gothic architecture in the UK. Was not able to go inside as was closed on Sunday, but was glad to see this iconic place of worship in the flesh. Worth a visit!

Right now this place is renovated, so I only saw in outside, but beautiful. Check the photos. If the renovation is finished, I loved to go inside.

A very impressive cathedral, staff was wonderful. I was fortunate to visit during Remembrance Day. Thousands of crosses representing the British service members fallen were displayed. Incredible experience.

A classic!
This time I cheated and took a photo of professor Hawkings's resting place.
Could not resist, as it was the reason I visited this time.
May he rest in peace!

We attended morning prayer and sitting in the quiet of the choir with the lights on in the stalls due to the dull start to the day had prayerful ambience.

I have never been inside it but I always see it from the outside and I love taking pics here cuz the architecture is so beautiful

Went to Evensong one Sunday afternoon, my first visit to the Abbey. The choir is made up of angels. The interior is sublime. After it ended I asked myself "Where could I possibly go after this?" Highly recommended if you want to hear angels singing. 🙂🧚♀️

Beautiful but 20 pounds to enter is really too much. They should let you enter for a lesser amount and no guided tour

Beautiful and awesomely historic! Well worth the price of admission.

Nice church with lots of history and famous tombs of Shakespeare, Elliot, Newton, Hawkins etc
M. C.
Beautiful and culturally rich. Must-see for every London visitor interested in history and culture

Beautiful and historic
Self guided tour but very crowded. Would be nice is there were options to read ancient Latin inscriptions in English
B. C.
Absolutely beautiful. Listen to the smooth voice of Jeremy Irons as you drift your way through the amazing architecture and chapels. Hall of Poets is highlight for those not overly religious.

Must visit.i was so excited to the visit that place that I had seen only in pictures earlier
A. C.
Absolutely incredible place. Very well preserved with so much historical significance. Only downside is not being able to take pictures inside.
R. D.
Obviously steeped in history, spent three or four hours here

One of London's most important landmark, traditional place for coronations and burial for British monarchs. My 3 stars rating is due to the very high entrance price - 20 pounds it's ridiculous in my opinion.
G.
We didn't go inside because we were on our way to another place (that's the only reason I didn't give it five stars). From the outside it looks great. Based on the line I saw, j would recommend showing up early.
D. H.
The one place I tend to always go. It is such a wonderful experience. The self guided media tour is very well done. They do have services and if possible the evensong is very special.
A. V.
Fantastic cathedral, full of history. If you reach Big Ben, make sure you visit Westminster cathedral

Beautiful!!! Self guided tour is full of information.

Beautiful architecture. Well worth a look around.

The most beautiful abbey in the whole world! Truly amazing building that is beyond words. It is not only a place of worship, but a place where the Royal Family holds special events like weddings and funerals, whilst distinguished dignitaries are interned here as well.
Photography is not allowed in this building though, so it’s best for you to admire this wonderful piece of architecture and history using your own eyes and imagine how this place was built in the old days. Truly amazing!
Well recommended!

You can't beat the history found here. I was only in London for a short layover but it was worth it. I highly recommend the Heathrow Express via Paddington Station. A little pricey but worth the time savings and it has free wifi. Take the time to enjoy when you can as never know if you path will bring you back.

Absolutely beautiful place its a must visit if your interested in the church Absolutely wonderful.place xx

It is a beautiful, memorable experience marvelling at the Lady Chapel ceiling and spending time in such an historic, peaceful place of worship but sadly still could be much improved for visitors. Incredibly expensive for entry and as a Unesco World Heritage site the guides don't stake up (once I paid for the audio/video guide and the souvenir book the whole visit was £30 and some spaces were closed because of social distancing). The video/ audio clips were 60 second snippets that didn't reveal much at all and the book thin; with over a 1000 years of history - surely there are lots of fascinating human insight stories to share?

Historic place. A must visit place in central London.

Wonderful place and must-visit attraction when visiting London. Great architecture. It's spectacular when you visit at sunset.

Definitely one of the most impressive tourist attractions in London.

Unforgettable. One of the most amazing places we've been to ever.
