Reviews of St. Margaret's Church

Love St Margarets. I have been attending this Church for several years. The members are warm and welcoming, diverse and talented. Every week we take part in activities which enables us to share our skills whilst exploring our own creativity and imagination. I enjoy my visits and always leave feeling truly loved and valued by one and all.

Dear Brian
I'm sorry your impressions were all negative. We aim to be welcoming and relaxed.
The Vicar has to leave early once a month to take a service at another church.
Hope we might see you again some time?
Best wishes

One of the minions!

I am not a regular church goer, but I have some experience of places of worship. Visiting here seemed straightforward enough. I am interested in the history of Whalley Range and wanted to photograph the interior of this church, especially any plaques relating to local worthies. My partner and I entered and discovered the usual depleted C of E congregation, but the welcome was warm and sincere. We had a few minutes before the service started, so I set about taking some photographs. There then appeared a casually dressed gentleman who, in the most unfriendly terms possible, demanded to know what my interest in the church was and what the photographs were for. My friendly explanation did nothing to thaw the open hostility. The idea seemed to be, how dare you want to photograph my grade II listed building! It slowly dawned on me that this strange man, who showed absolutely no interest in two new faces in the congregation, was actually the incumbent! The sermon was then delivered like a lecture in a classroom and communion - which I did not take part in, because I have not been baptised - was conducted using a torn up bread roll rather than communion wafers. I don't know if this practice is common, but it looked strange to me! And at some point during the communion he was gone, leaving his minions to carry on. Not the slightest attempt to meet, greet, or be friendly to his congregation. Really, with this man in charge, I can't imagine how this church survives. He seemed to sum up everything that could possibly be wrong with a first impression.
