If you have never been to this church before, you really should go out of your way to do so. It is the most welcoming and beautifully kept church I think I know. The gardens are kept so immaculately by a team of volunteers and the interior is so vibrant with community life. I don’t live locally but I do count myself a regular as I attend most Thursdays for their wonderful cafe mornings when they provide an incredible hub for the community, young & old. It is so lovely to see the new vicar and his family sharing their lives with those around them on those Thursday mornings. I have been coming along with my grandson for more than 3 years now & before that enjoyed being a part of the cafe team. Everyone is made to feel welcome and the mix of ages, backgrounds, live music and wonderful food makes for a very special atmosphere. You really should take time out to call in this summer and experience a very special community spirit.

This stunning Church is fast becoming a hub for the community in Fenham, whatever their religion. As a non-Christian I have been welcomed by everyone I have met who is connected to the Church. So many caring people give up a huge amount of their time to make everyone welcome here, the volunteers who work in the lovely calm oasis that is the Memorial Garden, the volunteers who run the café and brilliant music events cannot be praised enough. I recently attended a fantastic singing workshop day and the catering was just wonderful. People arriving from London to appear in the evening concert were stunned at the choice of food on offer. The 'icing on the cake' is the recently installed Vicar James who gets involved in everything that happens. I have witnessed his caring, gentle manner to those in crisis and am thankful for that. What a wonderful combination of building and people!

I've visited St James and St Basils church in Fenham many times. I have always been welcomed by everyone. Even though I am a non Christian I have been made to feel a part of the church community and enjoy the church's many varied music and social events. The church itself is a wonderful calm and serene place perfect for quiet meditation enhanced, particularly in the current sunshine, by the lovely memorial gardens. During my visits I have spoken many times to the incumbent Rev. James. I have found him to be the most kind, thoughtful and compassionate man anyone could wish to meet. I can not think of anyone more fitting for his role in this multi-cultural community. In the short time the Rev. James has been in his position he has already shown himself to be a great asset, not only, to this parish but to the city of Newcastle.

I have been extremely grateful for all of my experiences at this Church. Everyone I have encountered has been incredibly warm and welcoming, and I have loved every minute of my visits to the cafe they run on a Thursday, along with the music group for babies and toddlers.
We are so lucky to have this Church in the community - each visit is like a warm hug, no matter who you are, nor where you have come from. Thank you so much to all who work so hard to make it this way!

It's very shocking to see such comments about Vicar James. I visited this church twice when I travelled to Newcastle. All the church members and the Vicar were so friendly and loving. I saw different ethnic background members in the church who were engaged with church activities which showed how the vicar brings everyone together. It seems like there's been a miscommunication between them to check with the necessary requirements for a public party to be held in a church premises.

This is such a welcoming Church and the vicar is so broad minded, kind and helpful. It is so unfortunate that negative posts have come against the vicar
James. If the group had made their requirements clear to the vicar, he would have explained about the Safe guarding policy, the need of an insurance cover, etc. But it's unfortunate that the group could not have their programme as they planned. But the vicar should not be blamed as he has not been made clear of the whole situation.

Its very sad to see negative comments about the Vicar. Though I am coming from an ethnic minority background, I have always been welcomed and supported by Vicar James, the church wardens and the church members. I feel that if the requirements about the kind of party was clearly explained to the Vicar, he would have definitely helped as per the Church policies and the Government regulations.

I went to this church last Sunday for the first time and I met Vicar James and his family, who were so welcoming and made me feel like I am a part of their church family. They enquired my concerns and was very helpful too. It's so sad to see such negative comments on a person who is so broad-minded and friendly to anyone who comes there. I feel like the whole situation was not explained properly to the Vicar, as he is a person who would help if the request was clearly mentioned.
