The Church of England’s St. Michael and All Angels in Lonsdale Road, Oxford was built in 1908-09. St. Michael's was designed by A M Mowbray. A cruciform Early English Gothic Revival building, its construction in coursed rubblestone (apart from the bricked temporary west wall) was never fully completed. It has the chancel, north and south transepts, vestry, and south chapel beside the chancel, yet the nave, north and south aisles end in a "temporary" west wall which has stood for more than a century. Nevertheless a lovely church to visit, including its surrounding gardens.

I'm bound to give it 5 stars since I sing in the choir there. It's ultra covid secure, and the choir are about thirty feet from the congregation. It's time the government abandoned the ridiculous idea that numbers are restricted for amateur singers (though not professionals) and left it to local scrutiny to determine which venues can safely have live music making and appropriate number quotas for performers and audience.

St Michael & All Angels is a delightful church, with a great community spirit. Come to hear the choir sing beautifully, stay for a challenging, but down-to-earth sermon. The congregation is mixed, but overall of a more advanced age; nonetheless, there are plenty of young families in regular attendance, and there is a Sunday Club for children. If you're looking for a welcoming place, you've found it.

This Church has a welcoming congregation with services suited to everyone. There is a space for children to play while the service takes place and an all age service once a month. They host Taizè services and silent prayer on alternative Sunday evening. They have morning prayer services during the week as well. There is also a fabulous baby and toddler group run here on Tuesday mornings. It is a fantastic venue for concerts and recordings.
