Cafe closed, out side drinks only, no covered shelter.Very poor for British Tourists.
D. D.
Nice views across to Calshot, wild birds and squirrels are often seen, plenty of space for children and dogs to run off energy! The cafe is open, serving hot/cold drinks and hot/cold food ie sandwiches, sausage rolls, pasties etc along with crisps, chocolate etc. There are guidelines to follow, but very clear! Also public toilets are available...very clean!
Lots of information regarding the history of the military hospital...fun for both adults and children.
Definitely a place I would recommend.
A.
Always a good place to visit. So much open space. Something always happening out on the water. Cafe & toilets usually open . Playgrounds for the children. A charge for the parking but worth it to help with upkeep of the park. Florence Nightingale involved in the planning of the original hospital for the health of injured military. A necessary green space for the health, physical and mental of today's locals .

At one time. This was the chapel to vast millitary hospital and nursing training school for the army. It was opened by Queen Victoria in about 18 50 and was in continuous use for casualties from the Crimean war through to 2nd World. Excellently laid out and the story of the hospital is told in a series of tablets on the walls. A visit to the top of tower a climb of 169 steps. So you need plenty of puff and stamina
K. P.
Just needs more bins scattered around plus seated area with shelter ,ideal for windy days for couples or the elderly to still rest but enjoy the views .this is one of my favourite places to visit x
M.
Beautiful setting overlooking the sea. Superbly restored. Cafe for hot drinks next to the chapple
Otherwise there is a cafe by the carpark. Its £3.00 for up to 3 hours, and you buy a ticket from the pay station. NB you will need you reg number to pay, so if you don't know it snap a pic on your phone before making your way to pay. There are coin machines and card and contact less too. I paid to go up the tower which is worth it on such a fanatic day. Kids might find it boring but the oldies will love to reminis about the war etc...! There is a play park and miniature train that gives rides near by.

A lovely surprise. Came in thinking just to look around but a wonderful gentleman (didn't catch his name but was a former postal worker) gave us a proper tour and I'm so glad he did. It's anyway a pretty place but now it has depth.

As history lessons go this one is really good.Although only the chapel remains there is so much history to be learnt from a hospital that dates back to the 1800's.There is no charge to visit the ground floor and the small charge of 3.50p to visit the bell tower isn't excessive.Im over age 60 and thought it great value and enjoyed the climb. It is a long climb but there's a lift for the less mobile. There is one floor that still has the original pews and again has information about the patients who stayed here. The ground floor tells the story of staff, patients and so much more.Climb the bell tower to the the map of the hospital, great views and you can even ring the bell. There's a cafe as well downstairs and a shop. The staff couldn't have been nicer and there's concessions for older folk. The chapel.really is worth a visit and so is the park. The Commonwealth wargraves commision cemetery should be part of your visit as you explore. To be honest there are great sunsets here and i saw a really good one ton ight.Great day out for everyone. If you aren't from Southampton you might not know the park has a pond full of birds,a light railway&the land around the chapel is the size of two football pitches of grass. There"s woodland,a teepee campsite and it's right next to the foreshore and lots of parking spaces...lest we forget.

A lot of history to this place. We'll worth a visit.
S. W.
Just been into the newly renovated hospital museum at Victoria Country Park. It looks lovely in there! Didn't have much time to look around but the toilets are nice! 😂 There's a lovely little cafe in there too!
T. “. H.
What a hidden gem and in plain site. So much history and worth the walk up the tower.
m. m.
Lovely as they have just refurbished and set in lovely grounds, they have a small train for the children, and a lovely childs play area.and a cafe for refreshments
S. S.
Lovely place to spend the afternoon with great views across the Solent. Park is well maintained with a children's play park and mini train. Parking charges are extortionate though, ok some of the money is used for maintenance but with the volume of cars there it must raise a huge amount.
A. L.
I Really Love The Upper Gallery Because I Love To See The Columns That My Best Bit Of the Chapel
D. E.
Beautiful place. Great walks. Minature railway. Chapel is worth a visit too. There is plenty of wartime history and a military cemetery open to the public. Also a lovely cafe to get a coffee. They have just introduced a pizza van and there is a small funfair for the little ones as well as a play park. Dogs are permitted off lead and they can also go on the shore for a swim. Just outside the gates is a duck pond. I'd advise trying to park outside as the parking is on the high side especially if you are only staying a short while
J. R.
Great place to go for a lovely walk and grab a coffee
C. P.
Great place to go for kids and to meet up with friends and family
C. P.
Excellent precautions during Covid-19.
Friendly, helpful, informed staff.
Informative displays well-presented.
Good coffee and light refreshments - hot and cold, savoury and sweet.
Wonderful place needing return visits to take in all that it has to offer.
H. H.
Lovely walk round and lovely to see the old hospital and to learn about the history and the hospital and the land the hospital
E.
Great open space for families and dogs. Lovely walks, good parking and good clean facilities. Interesting history as well. Parking is a little pricey but is worth it every now and again.
P. M.
Great views if you can make it to the top 😉
J. R.
What a wonderful thought provoking day we spent in the museum and in its beautiful grounds plenty of space for children to play miniature railway, play ground, BBQ area and if course walking beside the water.our thanks to volunteers, and staff who look after this Parkland
R. W.
Great historical building with a nice field surrounding it. Gets very busy during the day but evening walks here are unbeatable
C. C.
This was a great find. The free museum had wonderful interactive displays. I particularly enjoyed the sound installation watching the photos of the hospital. I also found the medical records exhibit fascinating. My son enjoyed the bullet removal display, colouring area and role playing clothes. The tower is definitely worth the trip and money the views are spectacular.
J. “. W.
Victoria park got lots going for it on a nice dry day , the shore paddling the field for running in the cafe to buy ice cream , a park to climb things , the mini train ride , camping bbq areas and of course childrens play park great fun was had by all , plenty of parking
M. H.
Takeaway coffee plus very clean toilets available. Great place for a lovely walk and fresh sea air. Good children’s play area.
S. H.
Has been renovated in the last couple of years and now has a museum and a cafe.
We took a tour up to the bell tower, it was hard work walking up all the stairs but well worth the effort. The views are fantastic and the guide was pleasant and informative. We even got to ring the bell-satisfying.
I recommend visiting just for the stain glass windows alone, they are beautiful.
J. G.
We jive there on some nights. Danceyourselfdizzy.
Historic WW1 hospital large grounds with plenty of parking.
Go up the tower for good views.
L. I.
Nice country park.... parking is just extortionate though.....
A. L.
I Love it At The Chapel my Favorite Bit is the Gallery To See the Pillars on Each Side
J. C.
Great place to visit, park and sea in one place, lovely walks, had a vegan sausage roll at Chapel cafe, very nice . Best to park outside if you can as parking can be quite expensive.
D. D. D.
Such a lovely place for family picnics and walking the dog. Over looks the water. Mini train ride. Keep an eye on time parking can be expensive
D. B.
Brilliant place for families 👪
L. L.
Very split opinion of this mesmerising place. It wouldn't have been open to the public if former hospital still stood there... But the Chapel is a treasure for concerts, and the Tower have fabulous views!!!
P. C.
Live in the area so visit regularly, love walking in the park and stopping for a coffee at the cafe.
N. H.
Right in the centre of Royal Victoria Country Park with views across Southampton Water. A fitting memorial to all those who were treated in the Military Hospital.
E. E.
Eye opening to learn about the unsung heroes of WW1. The £3.5 million restoration project has allowed the Chapel to remain perfectly preserved for future generations.
C. B.
Attended a beautiful wedding reception here and was totally wowed by this lovely location and venue. Highly recommended for anyone wishing to have a party or a wedding.
W. O.
Interesting architecture and a beautiful historic building.
S. R.
This is a very interesting historical place. The recent renovation and the new interesting exhibits were a great improvement. We also had a lovely informative chat with a volunteer in the uniform of a patient of the hospital. The hospital has seen several terrible wars and probably thousands of wounded have passed through it. All thats left is the chapel which has kept its reverent atmosphere but now the reverence is more for the truly brave men that stayed there and worshipped there. Lest we forget
F. H.
Loving the renovation of this building. Great interactive and informative exhibition about the buildings history. My daughter loved climbing the tower to see the views, the only thing that's you have to pay for.
D. D.
A beautiful country park for family day outs. Dog friendly.. Delightful coastline.
Downside.. The cost to park and bad access
g. j.
I love night time walks with my dogs
I. F.
Excellent history museum, although not very big but it is very informative.
I. A.
Dominating old building that looks like something from the Uncharted PlayStation games from afar! Situated in a large waterside park that was great for a kickabout and some cricket with the kids.
H. B.
Lovely place. Very spiritual.
J. W.
Beautiful restored building. Well worth a walk around the ground floor hall to see the exhibits and read the story of the building and it's part in wartime history.
D. W.
Very nice place to have weddings in and miniature steam railway on site. Nice views for great wedding photos. Parking fees are not bad. You can pay by card and cash.
P. M.
The refurbishment is great and the history exhibition was well presented, even holding my 10 year olds interest for approx 30 mins which is a minor miracle in itself!
It was the first time i'd made the climb to the top of the chapel and the views are well worth it, you can see for miles!
Brand new cafe attached but will apparently only open on weekends which seems like a missed opportunity considering it was the school holidays and plenty of people there hence the loss of 1 star but a minor grumble in an otherwise good experience!
P.
Wonderful views throughly recommend
M. D.
Another nice place I often walk brucey dog lots of open space so social distancing not a problem, not been in visitor centre but looks nicely renovated after their work on the site
P. H.
The centrepiece of the old military hospital which stretched a quarter of a mile along Southampton water. You can visit an exhibition of medical militarism including an iron lung which was used for polio cases. The park itself is quite large with a fairy garden, a children's play area and a small steam train runs around part of the park. There are two cafe's. The Bluebells are particularly abundant in early spring. Visitors should try to make time to walk down to the military cemetery.
R. W.
Nice coffee and sausage roll sitting in the sunshine outside the Chapel. Interesting walk round the swamp. Lots of woodpeckers.
J. P.
My favourite place. It's soo beautiful, the woods, the fields and the water. It's so we'll maintained by the people it's a joy to visit.
L. C.
I sang here back in 79. It was a lovely summer's day, I remember it well as it was my birthday and the choir made me a cake. It was a Victoria sponge, quite fitting considering where we were.
I ate half of it before we sang and I felt so bloated when it came to my solo. Father Simon was very worried as he thought I was going to be sick. But I nailed it! Everyone cheered, my parents were so proud even my school crush said she thought I sang great.
Best birthday ever.
Any way back to the review, Royal Victoria Chapel. Never been here.
P. P.
Super restoration of the Chapel with hospital exhibits and information on the ground floor plus cafe. Well worth taking the lift and stairs up to the top of the tower on a clear day to look at views of Southampton Water, the city of Southampton and Spinnaker Tower in the far distance.
R. T. (. W.
A rather sad memorial to the foolhardy neglect and demolition of a once magnificent building. However, there is lots of history to be discovered here and a few ghosts too. There was one particular spot in the hall where I felt distinctly "spooked" and I am loathe to return there - will you have the same kind of experience in the same place..?. Let me know if you do...
R. P.
An inspiring piece of history. Just a pity nothing remains of the original Military hospital, to give an idea of its scale. In its day, "the biggest hospital in the world"!! Take time to visit the military cemetery in the woods adjacent to the chapel.
M. R.
Absolutely amazing place to be. Perfect for a walk with family on couples or singles. Perfect for walk by the beach too
K. W.
Love this country park, so much to do and caters for everyone. We go daily to walk our dog
m. b.
Listens to a lovely concert with carols from the 18th and 19th century.
S.
Interesting self guided exhibition. Well designed with plenty of pieces to look at including uniform.
B. F.
Beautiful place but parking was a bit steep at £9 for the day
t. h.
Great for families and the history is very interesting, well worth a vist
A. B.
The Chapel has been renovated to an exceptional standard. The acoustics in the Chapel are fantastic. The concert I attended was brilliant, the venue only enhanced & complimented the voice of Nell Bryden.
V. F.
Lovely country park near the seafront. Nice walks and able to get a coffee outside.
G. G.
A testament to the dedication of so many people in such hard times.
Now a venue for ever changing displays of history and current events.
The parkland round about is well appreciated by so many people of all ages.
A great place to go and blow the cobwebs away.
M. B.
The Royal Victoria Chapel is located within the grounds of the Royal Netley Victoria Country Park. The chapel itself has recently undergone a 3 1/2 million refit which was completed in 2018. It was built as part of one of the biggest military hospitals that had ever been built in this country. The hospital was built in 1863 and was opened by Queen Victoria, but a huge part of the hospital was destroyed by fire in 1966, but the chapel still remains. The chapel has been turned into a museum with artefacts relating back to its military days. I would say that although the parking charges for the park are a little excessive it would be worth paying this to spend a few hours in the park with free access to the chapel.p
E. M.

I was waiting at Southampton Airport for a flight home when I saw information about Newley Hospital Chapel. My Great Grandfather was in the hospital after the battle at Rorkes Drift in the Zulu wars while receiving treatment for his wounds. I telephoned to enquirer the opening hours to be told the we’re closed that morning when I explained my reason for my visit they said come to us and we will open for you. I was made very welcome and shown the display about my Grandfather. I learnt that Queen Victoria had presented his VC in person at the hospital. Also he was so overcome by the honor we fainted away.
Thank you it made my day.

(Translated) One of my favorite places for a walk that I can do locally without commuting by car. Nice church as the only remnant of a hospital. The observation tower is available to tourists for a nominal fee. Currently, the church has a museum associated with the hospital, which was located in this area. Right next to the church there is a cozy cafe with access to the garden where you can sit and drink coffee or tea.
