Lovely ancient church. Lovely inside, great monument to the St. John family and pre reformation walls paintings, well worth the trip

Lovely old church with a friendly vicar. It is also worth coming when there is no service to see the superb monuments and box pews. I like the old helmet ( presumably from a funeral of one of the St John family) that is on hook right up in the roof.

If you have any interest at all in history, this is a must see place to visit. Its history can be proven to go back to 1100, and the guides are very helpful, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. It has coloured glass dating back to the 15th century, medieval wall paintings, including a scene of the murder of Thomas a Becket, a Norman font, links and artefacts to the Tudor dynasty, and much much more besides. Their facebook page #@SwindonsJewel has a great deal of photographs on it, and if not manned the key can be obtained on production of photo ID from either Lydiard House or the stable rooms café, both less than 2 minutes walk away.

This gem of a church is undergoing conservation work at the moment but is still worth a visit. Better still why not attend a service here or have a strawberry tea on a Sunday afternoon during the summer adjacent to the church.
