Reviews of The Lock Keeper's Inn
K. W.
Salad was lovely tho pricey ... the quiche wasn't great .... staff were friendly..... very busy wee shop ... quite few coffees to choose from & tray bakes but hot food menu is small but over priced ....
M. E.
Out for a walk on the tow path, or want a sit down after watching hockey or rugby at Cooke? A great spot for a coffee and tray bake (they do other food too) and there is room outside for the dogs to have a break too.
T. M.
Nice to have a cafe along this walk on the towpath. Outdoor seating too. Treated ourselves to a bowl of stew, very tasty.
B. H. T.
Great system and service around current covid restrictions. Menu great if want more than a coffee and bun. Superb location for walks in nature 🌳🌿🌾
E. D.
Wonderful place! I come here like home. Great coffee and cakes.
M. K.
Just a gorgeous place to walk by and a good waypoint for a solid hike in the middle of the city.
R. O.
Lovely unique atmosphere in beautiful Northern Ireland green spaces. Food choices are limited. If you are happy with a good soup and cakes and bakes, you will love it. Coffee is ok. Visit the lock keeper’s cottage besides it; it’s really interesting.
J. S.
Always friendly staff, great food, great service, beautiful location!
J. M.
Lovely place on a nice day, nice food lovely coffee staff are great they even provide water bowls for your pets great idea.
T. D.
Had a lovely luncheon with my family! Scones were delicious and the burger and chips was perfectly cooked. Will definitely be back. 🤤❤️
D. D.
Nice spot on the Lagan to stop for a coffee and bun. You can sit inside or outside and plenty to choose from on the menu. It’s dog friendly as well.
S. M.
Fantastic food and drinks along with brilliant service and well thought out social distancing measures make this place a complete gem! Would absolutely recommend a visit at any time of the year.
C. W.
Good service and friendly staff. Only called for a coffee and tray bake. Tray bake very hard and difficult to eat. Will try something different next time.
G. F.
Nice location for coffee and a chat after walking the dogs. Great spot for people watching and meeting other furry friends!
A. H.
Stopped for a coffee. Staff friendly, popular spot with friendly locals and their dogs. Recommend.
D. W.
Lovely place in a lovely setting beside the river, ideal place to stop after our walk for refreshments.
C.
Decent place for a coffee. Have never ate here to comment but seems to be a decent menu.
S. R.
Lovely spot in the lock for a coffee or some lunch. It was very busy when we went, and the queue was out the door, so we didn't get a chance to try anything. But the location is great and everything looked delicious. We'll just have to come back!
C. M.
Really great location. Decent coffee and food. Gets very busy especially on a nice day.
M. M.
Lovely pitstop for a coffee very friendly staff, great traybakes. Excellent
D. C.
Nice place for a gentle walk along side river Lagan. The north bound left hand side is flat and ideal for anyone with a pram. Coffee Shop and Car Park is nearby. Good place for all walkers. Keep an eye out for the wildlife😄
D. M.
Lovely place was here today for my fry the staff are 5 stars so friendly check it out highly recommended.
N. M.
Lovely spot, staff very friendly and love that they have outdoor seating that's dog friendly. Their traybakes are huge and delicious! Although Molly (my dog) & I are on a diet so we didn't partake this time 😊
A. S.
Really packed today. Inside the cafe there was hardly room to move. The Americano coffee was burnt with little crema, the tea and caramel square were lovely though and hit the spot. Staff were very busy but polite and doing a good job of keeping everything moving.
C. K.
Food was lovely shame they use disposable plates, cutlery and cups when your sitting in. For this reason we wouldn't go back.
K. W.
Sandwiches are well filled and very tasty. Staff are friendly. Lovely relaxing atmosphere for you and your dog.
R. S.
Stopped off for coffee while on a bike ride, £5.50 for 2 lattes, good quality coffee and great scenery 😍
S. J. N.
Amazing place for a coffee break during a Lagan walk! And great service!!
A. D.
Drinks stop on MTB trail.
p. g.
Lovely, lively spot. Popular with walkers. Good food. Toilets. Dog friendly inc water bowls. Bike doc
G. D.
A nice coffee shop to relax after having a long walk. They serve some good breakfast.
A. J.
Love this place!!! The only criticism would be that there isn't enough seating outdoors when the weather is nice. It's annoying to see 2 people at a table that seats 6 when you're in a group! The food is amazing, staff are always pleasant and it's dog friendly!
H. D.
Very nice coffee and i look forward to having the carrot cake again.
J. B.
A gem of a place in a beautiful woodland river Lagan setting. Lovely coffees and good food served inside or out
S. S.
My son had the waffles and they were so good he saw Jesus.
D. B.
Enjoyable stroll along the lagan
D. M.
Lovely spot when you take your dog out for a walk along the tow path. Lots of out door seating and some indoor too.
J. B.
I had the seafood gumbo and it was delicious! Indoor and outdoor seating. I didn't use the facilities but they so take card
J. W.
Can't beat a nice bowl of stew and a coffee. Sausage rolls are great. Last visit I had a toasted sausage sandwich which wasn't on the menu.
M. F.
Nice little place to stop for a coffee with outdoor seating for dog walkers. The food and treats are very lovely. The only reason for the 3 star review is the outside seating area is swarming with wasps and with the place so busy, plates, waste food, glasses and cups which attract the wasps just aren't cleared away quickly enough by the lovely, friendly but very busy staff
D. H.
Good portions. But they won't let you sit inside yet. So a bit cold sitting outside. Too many barking dogs..
J. M.
Lovely varied menu, helpful staff & speedy service.
C. F.
Lovely spot, especially when the sun is shinning. Plenty of outdoor seating and good food.
P. C.
Great to find this spot along the towpath where we could get warmed up and refuelled during our New Year's Day walk. Good selection of food to choose from on menu, lovely to see it was freshly made on the premises and of good quality. Kids menu offered "proper" food and was generous in terms of portion size. Great that you can park&lock bikes outside and even sit outside if you wish to keep an eye on your bikes/scooters/prams. Service was excellent, bringing your order to your table whether you chose to sit inside or outside. Amazingly quick service even on what was a really busy day. Definitely will be back again!
J. W.
Great location and friendly service. A couple of times I’ve been there I’ve asked for drinks that have been advertised online or on the menu boards, but have been told on several occasions now that those are all out of stock, so slightly disappointing that way. But, the usual sort of coffees are still reasonable and in the ideal place for a nice walk while drinking them!
R. M.
Nice place , could have a bit more of variety of food and cakes but overall it was a nice experience. Okay I get it, The attention of having bowls with water for your pets is nice, but unfortunately closes very early and lacks a but more of ambiance. But it’s a very pleasant place to have a quick coffee or grab a snack
E. S.
It is a lovely walk to the lock keeper's cottage from Belfast and it is nice to have a stop at the restaurant.
L.
It's a great spot. The outdoor picnic benches are super and the coffee shops setup for social distancing is very good. You place an order and get a buzzer that notifies you when your order is ready and of course hand sanitizer aplenty.
D. M.
Lovely place to have a coffee but extremely slow service. Waited 20mins for 2 coffees after ordering.
M. F.
Nice spot. I cycle by here frequently but have only recently stopped off for a bite to eat. The menu is basic but it's done well so I have no complaints there. Prices on the higher end. Perfect place to stop off on a sunny day to sit outside or relax on the grass. Family, bike and dog friendly.
c. b.
Lasagne and chips were lovely, good service.
J. H.
Always busy at the weekends. Nice place to stop after a good walk 🚶♂️
S. M.
Great spot to stop for coffee, tea, pastry, and/lunch on a walk along the Lagan from Belfast. Dog-friendly too with lots of picnic tables outside for clear or only mildly drizzly days. 😉 Recommend.
A. S.
Mmmm. Pricing a bit suspect. £3.25 for a sausage bap sounded for all the world like £2.25 when we asked before ordering. Coffee lovely though. Really good.
G. M.
Great to see Lock keeper's open again. Coffee is good and the menu surprisingly diverse. Plenty of space for our 4-legged friends as well!
J. J.
Nice place on a lovely walk along the Lagan river. Food looks good and coffee and blueberry scone for a fiver. Small serving area so gets crowded when ordering but recommend for a stop and chat
P. D.
Great location. Delicious food. Friendly staff. ^^
K. N. (.
nice wee café by the towpath. perfect halt when walking/cycling along the path, as evidenced by the number of patrons when the weather is good. when the tables are full, people even sit on the grass lawn! just beware of wasps when sitting outside - for some reason all of them converged on us and refused to buzz off, forcing us to move inside.
E. M.
Lovely place for coffee after a walk on the towpath
J. C.
Beautiful grub 🍔and quick service...made even better in lovely surroundings and that we witnessed a proposal aswell
J. C.
Coffee, dogs, families relaxed sorta place
J. C.
Fab little place, great traybakes and brekkie looks good too.
S. K.
Very reasonable price.
Scone was decent, sea food chowder was excellent
R. J.
I've only been here once as part of an eco therapy session. There is a historical cottage and river barge where volunteers answer questions and give you information about the place. There is also a great scenic walk and if you are lucky Northern Irish wildlife can be spotted on your trail. The cafe would be my only complaint which I found a little expensive.
k. c.
Lovely place to stop for lunch or a coffee if you are walking or cycling the meadows. Nice for treats too, I got the slated caramel brownie and it was to die for!
A. M.
Good hot chocolate and brownie. Just nice to sit for a bit in pleasant surroundings before walking the dogs.
P. L.
Still doing a takeaway service during lockdown. Great place to stop off and recharge. Order at the window, and you get a buzzer which activates when your order is ready to pick up.
S. F.
Nice meal. Quick and handy. Pity the facilities were not available due to covid 🙄 Will be back on the bike again though as the path is mostly level and people give each other room.
N. P.
Great location if you're hungry at the end of a walk on the Lagan towpath.
They always have two excellent soups served in a big bowl with fresh onion focaccia and tomato bread.
Can get extremely busy at lunch or when the weather is good.
C. A.
Pricey but good cake. Also great cheesecake. Always queues here.
R. K.
Nice spot for a coffee by the river. Only outside section open during pandemic. Paninis were not great, I wouldn't have one again but I would go for coffee and cake
P. L.
Lovely wee spot to stop at along the towpath. Bike racks for the bikes, blankets to sit on if the outside seats are wet and the tea and coffee is good too. Will be back again multiple times
G. R.
Great coffee and tray bakes. Lovely setting. Could do a bit more with the surrounding like a few plants etc. But overall very good.
P. Q.
Great food, service and area for eating
Can get busy
An area steeped in the history of the Lagan navigation
Very open and healthy area with Woodlands, walkways and rivers
L. C.
Great place to stop if walking or cycling along the Lagan Towpath. Also accessible 2 min walk from carpark behind the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Shaws Bridge. Indoor and outdoor seating, so it's dog-friendly too. Ample space for bike parking. Serves a range of food from a nice breakfast fry to just coffee or dessert. Very nice spot, good atmosphere. Can be very busy at weekends esp. when the weather is good.
K. S.
Really nice place to sit with the dog however coffee tasted awful. Latte was basically just hot milk and very expensive. Would be so much better if they'd better coffee.
F. B.
Superb location & ambience.
Limited simple (but well-prepared) menu. Alfresco seating. (Not weather- resistant)
We've been back several times already.
J. C.
Beautiful setting along the Lagan towpath. Good range of breakfast and lunch with the option to sit outside on a good day. Parking is quite close with only a short walk to the cafe. Staff friendly and efficient.
J. M.
This is a nice cafe. I usually have some scone and tea. A large selection on offer, something for everyone. A relaxed place with some outdoor seating. Can get very busy.
S. M.
Super wee spot for lunch just be mindful, it can get very busy so waiting times can be long and seating inside is restricted but a great place to stop on your walk. Also dog friendly outside.
J. P.
Great location. Always very busy. I'd give it five stars for the view but the service is often bad, the food is never more than average and is whilst not ridiculous a tad over priced for the quality. I'd recommend going elsewhere except that location means I'll keep going back for coffee and a bun.
I. K.
Coffee okay but surroundings eg picnic tables were drab and could do with varnish. Grass could be shorter.
R. C.
Really nice place and great when out for a walk for a drink and bite to eat. Though a bit busy and noisy when we were there and found some of the staff a bit abrupt which was a shame.
D. S.
Great little hideaway. Friendly staff and lovely food in equally lovely surroundings. Reasonable prices and a nice little place to have a coffee and unwind after a stroll around Shaws Bridge and the surrounding area.
P. Y.
Lovely wee place for a cuppa or ice cream becide the old locks on the Lagan River. Beautiful setting on the toe path. Cycle and dog friendly with lots of outdoor space.
M. H.
Great for a Sunday cuppa and some food.
If you have a dog you can sit outside which is nice.
Seems to get a good crowd.
T. L.
For coffee in Belfast, you can’t go wrong many places. Between the great food, ready access to nature and trails, coffee scene, and unfortunately weather, I found myself comparing Belfast to Seattle. One of the highlights for coffee was Lock keeper’s, housed next to the old Lock Keeper’s residence along the canal locks on the River Lagan.
The area is perfect for recreation and is packed with runners, dog walkers, and stroller strollers. You can even tour the tiny two room lock keeper’s house which until the early 1990s housed the lock keeper’s family without electricity or water. The volunteers on staff are super friendly and spin a great yarn.
The coffee here was excellent and goes perfectly with a sit outside along the water by the locks.
P. M.
Great hidden gem of the towpaths.
Friendly helpful staff with great coffee and a brilliant wee menu for all the size of the place.
Not to be missed any time of the year .
B. H.
Great food, fantastic location. It can be overly busy and difficult to get seated sometimes (especially weekends, holidays, sunny days) but that's understandable given its a fairly small building.
K. M.
Excellent take away service a welcome coffee after our walk ..a good food take away menu also available
G. C.
Fantastic rest stop whilst walking along the Lagan. Great coffee but the hot chocolate is a must to try. 😄
D. K.
One of the best places for coffee and food in Belfast these days with outdoor seating only so wrap up warm and enjoy 👌
t.
They serve the best poached eggs. I am heading there tomorrow to find out how they do it, thanks, love having brekkie here.
M. M.
Great place for a coffee stop whilst on your lagan walk. Good food too and friendly staff. 👍
M. M.
COVID-19 restrictions still being applied, so outdoor eating only. Place an order at one hatch and collect at another.
S. M.
A much needed resting place during your walk along the River Lagan. Inside and outside seating areas to enjoy a light bite or tea and coffee
D. M.
I always enjoy their soup which comes with great artisan bread. It's a great place to come with your dog as they are also provided with refreshments.
T.
Lovely food. When sunny there's a big queue, and when raining you'll not go lol. Nb not licensed. Lots of dogs outside.
M. K.
I don't know if it was due to them being ridiculously busy but waiting 10min for a coffee to go then it tastes under percolated (watery with no real taste).....everybody else seemed to be enjoying the food and there was a great buzz about the place.
T. N.
I call in every week for soup after a walk and it is honestly the nicest soup ever. Very generous portions with great bread.
I would highly recommend this place.
L. W.
Nice little cafe. Simple but good food.
D.
Really good food and handy to stop in at if you are out walking the dogs. They have covered tables outside so you can still sit outside if its training.
M. K.
Food and all ok. Could be better. Introduced for what it is. Just a coffee shop
P. S.
Nice café. Good place to grab a coffee when out walking in the park. Also check out the cottage and hear the story about George the original lock keeper. Seemed a good lad.
D. B.
Beautiful little cafe. Perfect for dog walkers as there is plenty of outdoor seating. lovely food and brilliant service.
G. A.
This place is not an inn, neither does it serve alcohol.
Seemed like a nice place but I was after a pint after cycling. Was gutted to only be offered soft drinks.
G. W.
Great place to stop off for coffee or snacks after a big walk.Dogs welcome, they even sell doggie frozen yoghurt.!! Food is good & surroundings lovely.
S.
Great location for cyclist's and Walker's for a hot meal or just a coffee.
It's very popular with families as well.
Right next to the river.
A. M.
Foods good, walks are nice, the queues aren't! Really could do with more tables outside and a better way of placing orders.
R. H.
Perfect location, very expensive
j. m.
Have been here a few times and the service and be very bad when busy. On a few visit my order has been wrong, and when trying to ask about the meal you get told that is what was ordered. Is very disappointing that they don't handle stress too well.
N. S.
Recently refurbished, the Lockkeepers Inn has been livened up from a slightly dark, claustrophobic atmosphere to something much brighter. The staff are friendly and it's reasonably priced, would definitely recommend for a stop in on a towpath walk.
A. P.
Good for a coffee and traybake when out for a walk along the Lagan towpath. Outdoor seating for people with dogs or muddy boots.
M. C.
Great lemonade after a lovely cycle
S. G.
Excellent food and fabulous staff. We eat here every weekend always impressed. Good value for money. Dog friendly.
B. M.
A delightful oasis/watering hole to provide a short rest while out walking along the Lagan. Good food, reasonably priced, teas and coffees.
D. F.
Beautiful Scenery beside the river Lagan, nice picnic tables for outside eating and drinking as well as an indoor area and toilets. Food and service is very good.
J. W.
Decent food and coffee. Great location to go during a walk. You need to walk into here as there is no roadway for cars
B. D.
Nice walk and a wee cafe if ur looking ur coffee fill
A. B.
Lovely walk. Nice cafe. Pleasant place to spend an hour or so. Cold today but still lovely.
C. R.
Cappuccino was lovely, tray bake was large and tasty! Sat outside, could do more with the surroundings!!
S. J.
Lovely place to sit. Food is lovely and service friendly and fast.
M. M.
Not cheap for essentially a carryout offering. Certainly a lot dearer than the coffee box at the boat club.
K. R.
Lovely coffee, great location. Just a real shame that the bloke at the table next chose to smoke a cigarette. Shame staff didn't challenge him.
A. G.
Lovely we spot nice friendly service .lovely to eat it side on dry day .then follow for nice area to have good walk .we hiden gem
H. M.
Good spot for a coffee and a treat when out for a dander.
R. M.
Only outdoor seating. Very little shelter. Limited menu
P. S.
Cafe only accessible by foot along the Lagan towpath near Shawsbridge Belfast. Its beside the Lagan Towpath and is a welcome stopover for refreshments during a country walk in the Lagan Valley park.
C. G.
Great spot for a little rest! The owner have gone to great lengths to ensure socially distanced Service- top marks!
R. S.
Lovely food, helpful staff. Nice surroundings. Dogs welcome outside. Plenty of water for the dogs. Nice pie!
S. M.

P. -.
A nice place to stop on lagan river walk We know it as the 'Infidelity Cafe' but don't let that put you off Its a regular for us when in Belfast
R. B.
Busy place good selection of food and all ways busy on a sunny day. Friendly staff clean and tidy place.
C. C.
Lovely afternoon with family x
J. A.
A very nice place to stop for refreshments on a walk along the tow path.
D. M.
Nice old historic building. The cafe was so crowded and we queued for ages, in the end we left, in fairness it was heritage open day.
E. J.
Food and service excellent however the queuing system leaves a lot to be desired an idea would be to have a menu that could be seen from outside
L. R.
Great please to have a good coffee. The seating outside is perfect on a sunny day 😊
I. G.
Lock Keepers Inn was locked up, but doing a Covid safe roaring trade serving take away coffee and buns through a hatch.
M. M.
Good food and service but staff unable to serve coffee and scone at the same time. Quite often long wait between them.
