Reviews of East Brighton Cafe

Loved the food. Had the lamb kebabs and they were delicious. Such a friendly, cheerful family run business. Marilyn is a delight. All her family recipes. Totally recommend. Beautiful setting. Came here a couple of weekends ago for a friend's birthday. They catered well for us with pre-booking food from a set menu. We each paid for our own meal and drinks when we arrived. So easy when there is a big group of you and you don't want all he hassle of sorting the bill at the end!

I love this place. It is always part of a walk with my dog and it is a very dog friendly place. Lovely people, good coffee and the food is lovely. I must try the curries but be assured the samosas are good. It is always a happy time to go there. One last thing...check out the mural inside.

Love this place. A cafe that has a park. Good food, good coffee, good scenery.
K. B.
Highly recommend for a really tasty homemade authentic curry on their curry night, currently Saturdays 5-7pm. Three very delicious courses (we shared and tried all the options) and the staff are really welcoming.

Super tasty food, lovely people, very nice ☺
10/10 recommended
They also have vegan options 😋

Delightful spot for a delicious brunch and the background music was exactly to our taste too. Thank you.

Absolutely amazing place! Lovely people! Great food! Coffee is really good. The chicken burger is outstanding and Samosas are the best I have ever tried. And now they have Mr Whippy!! Nothing else you can ask for really... highly recommended.

Amazing food, my goto place for every weekend. Love the spring rolls, samosas and of course coffee☕️

Great Red Roaster coffee. Tasty thick cappuccino as it should be & as many cafés are unable to do. Great outside bar overlooking the park. Lovely staff. 🤓

We love coming to the cafe. It’s super family and dog friendly. Marilyn’s samosas are amazing for lunch and also a perfect spot for a cuppa after a walk or play in the park. We even had our sons 8th birthday party perfectly catered for by the cafe including all the decorations, food and an amazing Lego themed birthday cake. Totally recommend for outside special occasions.

Lovely cafe, owner and staff very friendly and accommodating. Best Samosa's ever had.

My partner and I had our wedding reception event here - it was amazing!
We had to change venues last minute due to COVID restrictions and Marilyn and Steve were so accommodating and supportive. The food was delicious - homemade samosas, curries and desserts and we were able to have a selection of beverages including cocktails, wine and beer.
We would highly recommend for private events, the Saturday curry club and also to come along to the cafe for coffee and samosas whilst enjoying the views over East Brighton Park. Vegetarian + vegan options also available.

We have visited the East Brighton Café lots of times. It is conveniently set in the middle of the park and in the summer has outside seating. The food is delicious, you can choose between UK staples such as full English breakfast, bacon roll etc and their speciality - South African Indian dishes. The samosas alone deserve their own review ! On Saturday evenings they operate the Durban Curry Club. Their weekly changing three course menu with meat and vegetarian options is a fabulous way to try the flavours of South African food. It was take-away only during lockdown but once restrictions are lifted you will be able to eat inside too. Marilyn and Steve the chefs are really friendly and dogs are very welcome too. They have a drinks licence and the coffee is great too !

Impossible to walk past, family run, they do the best red roaster coffee, breakfasts and snacks, samosas are a speciality and so are the made to order evening takeaway meals. It’s home cooked 3 course finely tuned Indian curries with a hint of South African cuisine. Very good value and delicious
C. M.
Wow! Stunning authentic curries and sweets. Our family has tasted every dish and we keep coming back for more.
Served with smiles too.... even better! Oh yes, perfect environment to picnic too. ❤

This is such a great place! Amazing food and really good coffee, an independent local business with a lovely host. So glad I eventually found them, unfortunately it took the pandemic to get me to discover East Brighton Park and I wish I'd come here years ago! But it's never too late. We shall try their Saturday curry club soon!

I like surprises and this was one!!
We left the sheepcote campsite needing a hearty breakfast following a party the previous night, we’re vegans and some of the vegan options were unavailable so the owner talked us into a fusion food breakfast. Now normally I wouldn’t choose onion bhajis with an English breakfast but heyho it worked.
Great staff great setting and dog friendly, what’s not to like ?

Thought we'd give this place a try in October during lockdown. We must have had 20 takeaway's now and each one has been superb. It never disappoints. My wife is a proper foodie. She thought the kashmiri braised aubergine was one of the nicest things she’d ever tasted!

Lovely place run by the best people, it brings such a community feel to our dog walks at East Brighton Park, a highly anticipated treat. Great coffee, unbelievable samosas (if you buy fresh samosas anywhere around east brighton, they're probably made fresh by these guys! so may as well come straight to the source), gourmet breakfast rolls (get one with wild garlic while it's in season), and South African-Indian curry club on saturday night is ridiculous in quality. I usually feel pretty unwell after gorging on rich takeaway curry, but not from these guys- you can really tell it's fresh and homemade in both taste and how you feel afterwards. Cannot recommend enough!

Nicest coffee I've had for a long time.
Dog friendly and very welcoming.
Wish I had tried something to eat - if we come back to Brighton we will definitely go again

Loved the Saturday night supper club. Delicious curry with that home cooked feel. Lovely owners. I also enjoy the breakfast and snacks, especially when I can sit outside and watch the cricket in the park.
R. J.
Visited East Brighton Cafe for the first time and throughly enjoyed the Breakfast, all fresh and free range ingredients. We also ordered the samosas which were home made and tasted delicious.
S. W.
I haven't eaten their food yet, though I hear it's good. Coffee under lockdown means no toilet access and sit on the grass or bring a picnic chair. But they plan to have outdoor seating very soon when restrictions relax on April 12, I believe. Lovely spot.
D. R.
What is there to say but experience it yourself and it will not disapoint.
Excellent coffee, samosa to die for and wonderful friendly owners and staff. Even if not taking the dog for a walk it's well worth a walk around the park ending at the cafe.
c. H.
Amazing place. The food is exceptional and the service friendly. Great coffee.

We had a delivery of curry from the East Brighton Cafe. It was incredible. The best samosas I have ever tasted and delicious chicken curry and condiments. I really hope they keep this going especially in these difficult times. A real treat and great value.

I found this lovely place whilst I was waiting for my daughter who was at A and E at the Sussex County hospital. They people were lovely and the flat white was awesome. Thank you so much for being so kind to me. Well worth a visit.

Warm, friendly cafe with two excellent hosts in the form of Marilyn and Stephen. Best coffee this end of Brighton and delicious Durban style curries. Situated in underated Park with access to Sheepcote Valley, Whitehawk FC and lovely green spaces. Seems to be a perfect dogwalking area.
J. M.
Enjoy the best made cappuccino in Brighton, in my humble opinion! Together with amazing homemade samosas and lovely staff. It's such an amazing addition to the area and dog friendly too.
A. C.
Amazing food, lovely people, highly recommended - we will be back!

We got together as a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. We had the loveliest evening with delicious tasty food, friendly, professional people staff and topped with gorgeous views.
V. S.
Others have said it, the samosas are some of the best I've ever had. We went back the next day and the Durban chicken (dirty) burger was lush highly recommend trying that. The masala fries are damn fine too.
Looking forward to dinning in once the 'rona is vanquished.
B. D.
A wonderful café run by the loveliest couple; great coffee, delicious food (we're a big fan of their fresh samosas) placed in the beautiful East Brighton Park. Love it!
S. M.
What a lovely cafe. Such wonderfully helpful and friendly staff.
S. H.
Very tasty bacon in their rolls, good coffee too. A great place to have breakfast after doing Parkrun.
P. K.
Enjoyed a lovely Saturday early evening at their curry club, delicious food and friendly owners. I'd recommend this for a relaxing summer evening away from the Brighton throng.
M. W.
Parking just outside, great walks on the hills and really good Samosas. Not the cheapest cafe but great service and nice food. They have steps up to the cafe so not great if you're disabled, so bring a friend if needed.
S. W.
Well I’ve just had a wonderful meal at the East Brighton café the service is really good the friendliness of Marilyn and Steve and it’s in the park very informal music in the background you must come and check it out!

An absolute hidden gem at the foot of the South Downs. Perfect for a coffee before you head up the hill for walk. I had an expertly made coffee (Red Roaster beans) and a samosa to die for. Great park for kids to run around in as well.
J. B.
We had the Monk fish curry - absolutely fantastic! So happy to have this cafe on our door step… We’ll be back!
M. S.
The sausage patties are to die for - especially in a brioche roll with an egg.
Check out their dirty fries too ….. amazing!!

Easily the best curry around. Wonderful flavours which are only matched by the wonderful owners. And the samosas are the best you’ll ever taste
