Reviews of The Flour Pot Bakery - Fiveways

This is a lovely cafe and bakery with amazing service and excellent quality food. They also have fresh baked breads, buns, pastries and bundy’s every day, it’s pricey but no more so that anywhere this good in Brighton. It’s out of the centre so you will almost always get a seat, and with outside seating on a not overly busy route, you can enjoy your food in the sunshine. It’s part of the five ways junction which is surrounded by amazing little shops, so well worth a trip out of the city centre for a visit and lunch, and within walking distance of the hills and forests so great for before or after you do your big walk.

Love the new premises with extended dining area, very light and airy. Delicious coffee and food, they use extremely high quality ingredients. Particularly enjoyed the granola bowl and sourdough toast. Friendly and helpful service too.

Really love the simplicity of the decor at the venue it works really well, the copper pipe finishing is just simply stunning. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and quick to check that you've ordered and everything is okay. The food was beautiful, we opted for poached eggs on sourdough and scrambled eggs on sourdough both of which the eggs were cooked beautifully. The coffee is also really nice. Would recommend and will be back soon.

Lovely place for a sandwich and coffee. The chicken, chorizo and cheese toasted sandwich is particularly recommended. I also had a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice which was lovely and good value for the size. A very pleasant way to spend an hour or so. Would recommend.

We love the Flour Pot Bakery and have tried them all over the Brighton. In this massively expanded site the systems seems to need some tuning. We were taken to a table and asked what drinks we would like, we were then given a menu for food. The menu assumes we want something large and did not include the cakes we had come for. I had to go and photograph the cakes and show my Wife to choose, we ordered and settled the bill and after being there for 10 minutes we got the cakes. We ate the cakes, we waited and no drinks came. The waitress reminded the Barista and we waited another 10 minutes. I went up to the counter and asked for the drinks as a take away as we were a bit fed up waiting. It took another 5 minutes and they were not really hot enough. They did give us a card for a future free drink. I am sure this could be a great Cafe, but, the team needs to be more focused on doing the job in addition to chatting to people.

I was pleased to see The Flour pot has extended their 5 ways premises to include a large seated space. Unfortunately the lighting is not great if you are someone sensitive to bright lighting. I do wish businesses would consider peoples sensory needs when planning decor. All good other than this. If you’re light sensitive and don’t want to stare into many bright lights, I’d avoid the seated area. Coffees good but slow. I don’t understand why the one barista is also giving coffees out as well. Chop chop!

How brilliant are these guys? Their food and coffee was always excellent anyway but now in the face of a crisis they've upped their game immediately and have managed to continue serving customers at home and all over town with big smiles on their faces. Love this local bakery, and the Friday doughnuts!

Amazing cafe! Bright, open space. Great takeaway options and delicious baked treats!
Grab a coffee and pastry for under a fiver!
Baby friendly!!

We heard that the Flourpot had opened a restaurant so we had to try it. We came for brunch and everything we had was lovely with the scrambled eggs being the standout for me. Great food and swift service with a smile!!

Much better location and space now they’ve moved to the old HSBC premises on Ditchling Road. It’s great that you can sit outside. Great sandwiches and pastries, decent coffee. Solid bread. My out of the town friends love it here. They have a limited number of grocery items which seem a bit random.
A. J.
Impressed with the premises although 20 min wait for a coffee was a bit too long however it was extremely busy. Will return when quieter.

Have a coffee here most mornings. Polite staff, great coffee and a good selection of bread & pastries (almond crossaints are highly recommended). It does get busy.... But I guess that's the sign of a good cafe.

Love trip to The Flour Pot.
I usually opt for the oat milk cappuccino and you save a bit of you bring your own take out cup.
Pastries are amazing.. try the vegan pain au chocolate... or a donut on a Friday. This weeks honeycomb was delicious!!

Great coffee and bread, but please for the love of God, STOP CUTTING ALL YOUR SOUR DOUGH!!! How can it be that you get an entire stack of "cut" Sour Dough every day, and only two loafs of "uncut"? Every time I go in to buy bread, you have sold out of your "uncut" and still have a complete, untouched stack of at least eight "cut" Sour Doughs. When I have asked the question as to why you cut so many of them, the three responses I've had are 'I don't know.' (That was literally it), 'sour dough takes longer to make.' (I didn't understand this as both uncut sour dough and cut sour dough are the same sour dough), and 'maybe people like the cut one better.' (This seems unlikely as the reason I asked, was that there was no uncut left and still a full stack of cut)...
I have asked if something could be mentioned to the manager or owner in the past, but nothing seems to change.
I guess I will just continue to annoy staff with my question every time I go in and there is no uncut left.
Everything else about the place is great, and if it wasn't for this it would be 4 stars.

A cosy and welcoming spot, very child and dog friendly. The team are lovely and always smiling, plus great food and coffee. Buy your bread early as it can sell out fast!
M. D.
Good new outlet for this great local business. Plenty of space and good table service and take away.

The team here get things done in an efficient and delicious manner!
Thank you for a decadent brunch on your house made bread!

Very pricey bakery, but with the most delicious brownies in Brighton. They're chocolatey, gooey, have hazelnuts in them and also a salty pretzel on top. It works so well, and they're completely vegan.
M. K.
I was a bit grumpy when this place started to expand across Brighton, but the bread is very good and that's the most important thing. Oh and the friday doughnuts are splendid. Less good as a cafe, but it is a reliable option when you need a sandwich and can't be bothered to think of anything more interesting. I wish they didn't put so much mayo in the pastrami and cheese one.
L. M.
The staff here are excellent so friendly and professional I leave in a better mood than I came in with 🥰

The food is good the service is slow, the cost is very over rated, lots of babies and lots of dogs

Hands down the best bread in Brighton. I make a lot of my own stuff but when short of a loaf I prefer to go here. The sourdoughs are just marvellous, chewy and flavoursome, and the focaccia is a pillow dream, salty, soft and oozing olive oil. The rye and sunflower loaf is also fantastic if one is in the mood for something a bit more hearty.

Good quality products but really need to do something about the queues: quicker customer service is the way!

This coffee shop at the top of Preston Drove has provided a brilliant service during lockdown. It was open daily and had essential items like bread, eggs flour cheese and milk. Well done and a heartfelt thank you from a key worker who’s done lots of long days over the last 4 months

Big fan of the Flour Pot and the staff at this Fiveways location, they're always pleasant and helpful. Great choice of pastries and the bread is to die for! Big fan of their oat milk flat whites. Thanks to the staff for staying open during lockdown and ensuring safe physical distancing measures are in place!

One of my favourite coffee spots! The staff couldn’t be more friendly! The manager is wonderfully friendly no matter whether they are due to shut or just opened nothing is too much trouble!
Brilliant little cafe well worth a visit!

Gorgeous flat white coffee and courteous staff.

I popped in to the Flour Pot Bakery to get some work done and have a coffee and Tiffin. There were plenty of plugs fr work (something often lacking in some more mainstream coffee chains).
The coffee and Tiffin were delicious and the staff were really friendly. I would go out of my way to come back here, its brilliant. Great options for all dietary requirements (not easy in a bakery!) as well as outdoor and indoor seating.

Great food, friendly staff and nice location

Best coffee at Fiveways. My father in law loves the “New Yorker” (sandwich). I am a vegetarian, so have never tried it. ;) But nice cakes & pastry.

Great shop and the staff are always really welcoming. Coffee superb. It gets busy because it's so good, which I think people seem to forget when leaving reviews
A. S.
Love this spot. Happy to walk for half an hour. Staff are an enthusiastic and welcoming bunch. Pastries and cakes are excellent.
A. P.
Great service when I wanted to add a bread to my collection order. Always love their coffee and baked goods too.
J. R.
Nice food, nice coffee, but £6 for a hot roll is just greedy, I go to Patisserie Real when I can, they value their customers there, by not ripping them off.
A. S.
Good sourdough bread, buy mine twice a week from them for over a year now a brain child of the small batch lot. Have the paper bags got bigger or the large stonground smaller
r. T.
My home wifi crashed and i needed a place to work from with wifi, this place was perfect, welcoming chatty staff who said they actually welcome the wifi user (so i didnt feel like a freeloader!) which was nice, theres charging sockets at every seat and good fast wifi, also got to try some of their delicious cakes and coffee, and watch all the regulars come in and out, a very popular place.
