Reviews of TWIN PINES
J. P.
Cool and yet v friendly coffee place on bustling James St. Fun decor with a touch of regency. Excellent flat white. Delicate coffee art. Sparkling water on tap. Hard to beat!
M. B.
Very welcoming, dainty little place with amazing coffee. Staff are super friendly, and do check out the basement: it's a great place to chill with a book for a while.
Note: the place doesn't have wifi so not the best if you want to work with internet, but for writing or reading it's great!
C. M.
Not only some of the best coffee in Brighton but also, and possibly more importantly, some of the best service levels. Might just be me but I hate going into a cafe/restaurant and being completely ignored by staff, left unsure of if you should queue, order, sit down etc. Very simple but massively off-putting and I have often walked out of establishments after experiencing this. Here at Twin Pines, they are welcoming, friendly, chatty and attentive, makes all the difference to the experience. Then they serve you a beautifully crafted coffee too. What more do you want?
T.
Nice lovely and cozy little cafe. The downstairs space is well decorated.
K. Þ.
I'm starting to come to the conclusion this may very well be the best coffee in Brighton, and there's some stiff competition in this coffee loving city.
If you're staying in there's a very hipsterish basement with mood lighting and comfy vintage furnishings. It's definitely a very cool hangout spot. Not somewhere to come with your laptop
C. N.
Really friendly guy on the counter called Jack (I think). Knows his stuff and clearly loves coffee. The decor is awesome and really nice vibe. Cool temperature, very clean and amazing selection of coffees. I had a speciality coconut oat cardamom flat white and my gf had an Affogato... Both were PERFECT. One of the best we've ever had (and we are coffee obsessed!). It's upper-market, expect to pay like £3.50 for a coffee. But it's worth it. Highly recommended.
R. S.
Rarely had such a good coffee ! Water for free. Perfect.
F. C.
Delicious coffee and lovely staff. Also great options for coffee. Highly recommend!
L.
Superb independent coffee shop - chilled but sofisticated. We had an oatmilk flatwite and a veggie sausage roll - what a combo! - both were delicious. Nice seating outside. About the coffee, it is good to have a flatwite with the right amount of coffee and not too much milk, and even more when it is served in their own ceramic cup. Without a shed of a doubt, one of the best coffees you can have in Brighton.
A. R.
Fantastic coffee! Whoever the barista is they know how to make an espresso.
Sparkling water on tap is also great.
E. B.
A cosy little coffee shop with comfortable seating and delightful decor.
An interesting little take on cups with no handles :-) .
Also has downstairs seating.
A hot chocolate and a latte came to about £6.20 to give a rough idea on pricing.
The staff are very pleasant and cheerful also helpful and good.
B. L.
Beautiful coffee, lovely staff, amazing interior and atmosphere. Highly recommend the afogato on a hot day
M. B.
A little quiet in a bustling street.
This dark and mysterious place was a butchers to start. It became known as "Jennifers"... The only place in Brighton that you could get fags and booze after 11pm.
At first glance it looks dark and dreary due to the décor and lighting. But hidden gem... Go down the staircase...
Relaxation.
Chilled.
Comfortable.
The cups don't have handles. The cups are quite small. I think it is worth going for the ambience.
Come here if you want a little oasis in a busy street. Go down the staircase.
Enjoy. I did🤣
A. S. K.
Absolutely great experience. The mocca is to die for, and the people working there are kind, patient and attentive. Plus the decor oscillating around art deco. I highly recommend this place! Thanks!
I. B.
Great looking cafe - nice vibe. Good music - joined the playlist on Spotify. Friendly staff. Chai tea latte and hot chocolate were very nice. Very nice place to hangout and have a drink.
T. c. (.
Very cool. Very chill. Excellent coffee. Relaxing atmosphere. And a very impressive Slayer 3group.
Those are rather rare to see and watching it well operated is a pleasure if you are espresso machine enthusiast. ....Twin Pines obviously are.
K. W.
Coffee here is exceptional. I went for a Oat Milk Flat White. Beautiful brew!
The decoration is warm, and inviting. Everything has purpose to calm you down, even the pay terminal is on-brand color
T. L. H.
Possibly one of the best coffee places in Brighton! Really nice atmosphere in there and their coffee knocked it out of the park!
Z.
Beautiful venue, great and friendly staff, and good coffee!
Thanks a lot
G. W.
My favourite little cosy coffee shop in Kempton, if not Brighton. Decor 10/10 amazing, downstairs to hide away from the world, upstairs to people watch. Delicious coffee and warm, friendly service. Love this place!
P. B.
Great experience 💕 Oat Milk or Extra flavours, they have it all
s. e.
Friendly coffee and great tasting staff 🙂 . The most stylish coffee shop in town .
C. W.
Really great coffee, in a retro cool setting. It's like have a drink in someones 1920's lounge. Awesome!
m. k.
Love this place, very clean, cosy and stylish with nice vintage decoration, staff are very friendly and helpful and the coffee quality is amazing ,definitely will come back again
P. C.
Staff; awesome. Coffee; awesome. Venue; awesome.
Everything about this place was high quality.
S. B.
Consistently the best coffee in Brighton I can find! Lovely team and a truly beautiful environment to stop for a coffee.
M. M.
Great little coffee house, with some of the best coffee in town. Like it's bigger sister, The Black Dove, at the other end of the street, Twin Pines mixes style with meticulously sourced content, and both have brilliant staff
M. G.
Really good coffee and nice friendly service. Outdoor seating in the sun was also nice.
c. S.
outstanding ambiance and decor. Great coffee. A pour over is a little pricey at £3.80, but still a 5 star review from a happy customer, as the service and atmosphere are worth paying for. Highly recommended for any self respecting coffee buff!
W. M.
We pop into twin pines every time we come down to Brighton because the coffee is amazing and full of flavour. The staff are always very friendly too and the decor is very cool, especially downstairs!
V. P.
This is the best cafe in Brighton for the person who only cares about how good their coffee is. There also happens to be (every time I’ve been) amazing vegan sausage rolls. The dark/eery vibe isn’t my thing but again, I’m going for the coffee and the service. The wizards that make the drinks are very knowledgeable and friendly.
B. M.
Beautiful coffee everytime! A coffee lover's haven. Our go to place for great tasting coffee whenever we visit Brighton! The staff are extra cool and friendly too!
i. m.
Found this coffee shop by accident and I am very glad I did. You can tell that the guys know what they doing just looking at the menu. It could have looked bit intimidating to someone who just wants fancy latte ( not me!) but very friendly and knowledgeable guy behind the counter was very fast to tell me that if I need help he is happy to explain. I decided to go for something different than my normal flat white and it was good choice ( coconut cardamom flattie if I remember correctly, it was from their special menu and explained to me). Coffee of course was great. I liked the decor and vibe of the place too.I am sure that next time I will be in Brighton, I will visit!
M.
Been here several times over the years and every time we are met with amazing customer service and some of the best coffee we’ve ever had. Easily one of our favourite coffee spots in the country.
J. L.
Friendly staff and very good coffee. Their pour over filter coffee is really good. You can taste the delicate flavour of the beans. Highly recommended.
H.
You can enjoy great coffee and vegan pastries here
M. S.
Great coffee , great music , great atmosphere & great staff. 5 stars all the way ( Great company too )
H. E.
Lovely mint tea and (I'm not a coffee drinker myself but I hear) exceptional coffee. We needed somewhere to come in from the cold and I'm so glad we spotted this place rather than the chain store opposite. Lovely decor, music, atmosphere. Great touch that they've twinned their toilet, helping to fund the building of another toilet where it was needed most. Love this place.
D. R.
one of the best coffees we've had in a while! we went back two mornings in a row on our holiday because we loved it so much.
J. C.
Cosy coffee place, friendly baristas. There's even a downstairs seating area that makes you feel like you're in someone's living room.
K. S.
A lovely coffee shop with amazing art deco interior. Friendly staff, good coffee. They have milk alternatives. Not a huge selection of food, some cake and chocolate available, but mainly about the coffee. There is more seating downstairs, although it's never been excessively crowded when I've been in.
m. S.
Easily the best Espresso and Flat Whites I’ve tried in Brighton. The attention to detail on each shot is second to none, with each dose of beans being weighed, ground, and then weighed again as the espresso was brewed. Machine, jugs, ports filter kept spotlessly clean through the whole process. Drinks were well balanced with a unique character, completely different to your run-of-the-mill cafe. Definitely worth a small detour to try something special. Thanks to all the staff.
B. E.
Friendly staff, very nice coffee, well presented. The decor is really good, and the music is good too. A lovely place to relax (as I did). Note that there is a downstairs area, so it's bigger than it looks at first. Well worth a visit.
y. [. r.
Hands down the best coffee bar in Brighton. They source some of the most interesting and tasty coffee beans and artisinal chocolate bars you can imagine. Lovely decor, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. Would give it an extra star if I could
R.
Great coffee, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, downstairs is like stepping back in time!
C. M.
Amazing coffee and smart seating outside!
There is a nice vibe about this place.
M. “. D.
Coffee is nice and yummy 🤪💪🤪 but there was basically no munch 😣 but if you just want a cof then this place is lovely! The man that served us was a nice lad as well. Horrible shoes tho he needs some knew ones ugm
m. p.
Amazing place, starting from staff, very helpful and attentive! Decor and inside vintage style really cosy, especially the downstairs part.
Good choice of filters, up to 3 different origins and one espresso blend.
Visit this place if you’re in the area!
D. S.
You want great coffee? This place does excellent coffee and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly.
Along with a selection of small but satisfying sweet and savoury morsels, you can buy beans - which regularly change and other accessories.
This place has a real ambience - it's not somewhere you can go with a laptop as there is no WiFi and mobile signal is flakey. But that's ok, it means you can enjoy your coffee and maybe read a book or talk to your friends.
J. D.
There are undoubtedly many great coffee places in Brighton and there are many other places that are still special to me but Twin Pines is beyond special. This beautifully decorated and carefully thought out oasis of style transports you to another world. The downstairs area is somewhere I'd happily live in. The decor is uniquely different but somehow comfortable and cosy and very inviting. To me, the sign of a good place is if it takes the load off by whisking you away to a suspended reality before you inevitably have to leave and join the real world again (think the Bee's Mouth pub on Western Road), well, Twin Pines does this triumphantly. The coffee is the best in town, hands down. Every time I go in there I get the same silky smooth coffee that I had the time before - consistency is very important! The milk positively shines in the light, bubble-free and beautifully patterned. Lastly, the crew in Twin Pines are some of the friendliest peeps you're gonna find anywhere. They know their stuff too and you can tell they are very passionate about making great coffee. A huge thumbs up!!
S. R.
Unique place. Sparkling water on tap. Friendly staff. Amazing toilet. Rock music. Quality tea.
P. P.
Definitely one of the best coffee in Kemptown!
J. D.
The coffee is delicious at this place, the retro decor and ambient lighting gives it an easy going vibe downstairs. Definitely worth checking out for a coffee and a relaxed chat with a friend/partner/family member or the personal treat of reading a book over a delicious cup of coffee!
A. C.
Fabulous coffee and wonderful mid century lounge downstairs
R. S.
One of the best cappuccinos I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking. Great atmosphere. Bravo.
S.
The coffee is absolute perfection. Beautifully decorated, with a really cosy downstairs seating area. This is such a great spot to unwind. They even have custom coffee mugs created by a local ceramic artist.
R. T. D.
Probably the best cafe in Brighton. Always great selection of speciality coffee. Make sure to check put downstairs to feel like a boss!
F. L.
Lushhhhh... one of the most gorgeous coffee shops I've been in and I've freelanced as a designer in London for 15 years. I know my coffee shops!! The interior is a labour of love. Fabulous coffee and real hot chocolate served in thrown earthenware. Friendly and very cosy. Good for a first date.
E.
Venue is a but small and the downstairs is often quite warm! However, the coffee is damn near perfect and incredibly strong. Staff is always warm and helpful and extremely knowledgeable. Would recommend.
A. A.
Great coffee, extremely nice and accommodating staff, inviting decor with outdoor seating. If you fancy a late morning coffee, this is the place to be.
M. H.
Great coffee! (Can’t really tell from outside)
A. T.
Fantastic coffee, great service, beautiful decor! 100% recommend
A. E.
Extraordinary place to drink a coffee.
I've liked the atmosphere and the friendly staff.
If u around don't miss the opportunity to get rest on it especially downstairs area 👌
E. K.
One of the best coffee shops in Brighton. They have a Slayer espresso machine and unlike the other places, they know how to extract the best coffee from that machine. Definetly a must if you are in Brighton to visit real coffee shops and have a good cup of coffee.
J. K.
Beautiful and cosy atmosphere, pour over was fantastic and brewed perfectly, thoroughly recommend their guest beans and their twist on the classic Italian affogato desert treat - the 'Vanilla Ice'
J. M.
I visit a lot of coffee places and this has instantly become one of my all time faves. Delicious espresso served in exquisite cups that feel wonderful to hold. Friendly staff.
R. S.
Had the pour over, fair price, but it had cooled down quite a bit by the time it arrived. could be hotter, but amazing flavour! Retro decor, but wobbley table and very dim/dank lighting. Fun, but a bit pretentious
T. L.
Pretty gloomy in here, so could work well for an intimate meeting space but a bit too dark for my liking. Best coffee you'll find on St James' street however, friendly enough service and reasonably priced drinks.
D. L.
Slinging out the best coffee in Brighton should be enough. But the team here are a solid 5 stars all round. Love the passion, awesome tunes and great service. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
B. T.
It was quintessentially cosy and the transient atmosphere and coffee delighted me and my pet Shitzu. We frequent cafes throughout the continent and this is unmistakably breathtaking compared with welsh tea rooms. I passionately discuss cupping whenever I feel melancholy. I look forward to visiting again. Please excuse my English as it is my fourth language.
A.
This is one of the best coffee shops in Brighton
Staff are very friendly & helpful
The environment is amazing and classic
The idea of serving the coffee in a ceramic cups is so great
The black coffee is really good
Loved it, and certainly I’ll visit it many times again
R. D.
Hands down the best coffee in Brighton. Super friendly staff in a very cool shop. The basement is nice and cool with dim lighting for a cool ambience.
J. R.
Friendly staff, lovely coffee (non-lacto-types, they use Bonsoy!), the décor is lovely (check out the toilet) and comfy seats.
Only downside is they don't seem to have wifi which I find annoying these days.
Last time I was in, I was told they do Life Drawing once a month.
J. M.
By far the best coffe shop in Brighton. They even remember how many sugars you have. Always cheerful and welcoming. Coffee is masterfully prepared.
M. S.
How very lovely. The design of the place is very appealing. Nice ambience. Friendly staff. Tasty potent coffee. Zero complaints. Top notch.
S. C.
Stumbled across this café on accident and I'm very glad that I did. Besides the wonderful customer service provided by the guys who work there, the flat white I had was wonderful, probably the best one I've had in Brighton.
C. B.
