Another great coffee in the centre!! We went there on a weekday and sat on the street side. Its house blend is a very balanced one with combination of El Salvador, Ethiopia, Panama and Uganda. The blend is roasted by Clifton. It was so smooth with the milk with balanced taste! Gonna come back for filter coffee next time!!

Possibly the best coffee in this area! As I’ve not tried all the coffee places in Bristol I’m hesitant to go that far! I tried a decaf oat flat white and the coffee was superior to anything else around here. It was £3 which is cheaper and tastes better than another independent coffee place on the next road down by the Grand. It’s obvious Small Street Espresso care about the quality of their coffee and won’t over charge for it. Also fully recyclable cups booya!

Probably one of the top 3 best coffees in Bristol. The espresso beans used here are top quality and the baristas really know what they’re doing (down to recommending whether you have milk or not with the guest filter). They’re also just really nice, gentle people which I appreciate. Set on a lovely quiet road in Bristol I love to get a coffee and sit outside to stare at the building opposite.

Great costumer service and very nice Ethiopian guest espresso ! Toasties very very nice as well !
K. H.
Nice little cafe and nice little spot on the street! Wouldn’t say the coffee was as great as the other reviews are implementing however everyone has there acquired taste. Came here to try for myself although I thought it was too strong and had a bit of a weird after taste to it, nonetheless I suggest you try for yourself
m. t.
Sly and most sufisticated coffee .. on small street ' definitely not small mind you on the service and grind .. fab tasting espresso with smiley and friendly staff. A great first time experience here also with a flapjack that was vegan and upmost yummy!
S. K.
Some of the best coffee I’ve ever had plus super helpful staff

Really nice and small coffee bar with a extravagance taste of coffee. I had a "normal" coffee (house blend) but it taste completely different from normal coffee. The surprising Tate if coffee, the manual way they grind the beans and prepare the coffee is nice to see and experience.
J. C.
Beautifully formed hole in the wall shop.
Nice wood floors and raw stone texture inside.
Coffee was great.
Surprised to find two plugs so if you're lucky enough to nab a table you could work here on a laptop.
The deal breaker is that there appears to be no public toilet
Also what coffee shop closes at 16:30?
K. T.
A true speciality coffee experience. Amazing quality and friendly staff. Be sure to try their espresso!
B. M.
Delicious coffee & great, friendly service. I will definitely be returning anytime I'm in Bristol.
N. C.
A wonderfully cosy and professional spot right in the centre of town, this high quality crew of baristas pump out some of Bristol's finest espresso. In a city loaded with plenty of excellent coffee houses this one stands out - the only issue is finding a seat! Try to visit in off-peak hours to ensure landing a space.
N. W.
It's not just the coffee that makes a coffee shop it's the staff as well. Lovely small independant coffee shop, great coffee and great staff and the best mochatado😉
M. B.
A must visit when in Bristol! Small street has an incredibly cosy vibe with a smell of beautiful single origin coffee filling the air. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, giving you plenty of time to make up your mind about what you'd like to order. Sometimes you just need a coffee chocolate hit (instead of a filter coffee) and there's absolutely no judgement from the baristas.
張.
Good coffee fabulous food and desserts! Nice service and lovely staff! Have music flow but not loud and annoying, very comforting!
R. S.
This is an amazing little coffee shop I discovered many years ago round the corner from my office. Their coffee is amazing and they always have a delicious selection of cakes from Harts bakery to enjoy too. The staff are really friendly and getting my morning coffee is a real treat.

Lovely little place with banging coffee, what more can you ask for!?
N. G.
Lovely little coffee house. Good selection of drinks and cakes. You can sit by the window and watch the world to by while enjoying a great quality brew
D. H.
Best coffee in Bristol as far as I'm concerned. Always friendly and the toast and marmite is better than...well almost anything.
B. T.
I ordered a latte and a brownie; both were absolutely amazing! I was saying to my friend how I never seem to get a good coffee anymore, and, after looking at the best coffee shops online, we decided to go to Small Street Espresso. I'm so glad we did - it was incredible! I shall definitely be returning.
Great coffee, lovely atmosphere and a nice location.
R. J.
1st time visit, excellent coffee. 2nd time visit today. Great coffee, wouldn't revisit though. Extremely busy, minimal seating and no toilet. A lot of people just sat talking after they finish their drinks which takes up a lot of space.
J. T.
One of the best coffee houses in Bristol. Always great coffee and interesting guest beans, with friendly staff. It's a tiny place but perfect for sitting in quiet times with benches out front for warmer weather to take a breath in the heart of the old city.
C. M.
Some of the best coffee in Bristol and they always have a delicious selection of sandwiches and pastries on. The guys that work here are really lovely and always give a personable service. It's a teeny tiny place but it has a lovely vibe about it. Because it's so small you can't really hang around for too long as you get the feeling you're taking up space, but don't let that stop you going. Just bear in mind it's not the best place to take a friend for a long catch up!
N. B.
Great little independent coffee house.
Had a skinny flat white and it's up there with one of the best I've had in Bristol. Lovely cute little cups and saucers - little things like this count as it ensures the coffee doesn't cool too quickly.
Love the style of the decor - stripped back to brick, and simple tables. Although not really fair for anyone to sit and work for hours and take valuable space for other customers, there are sockets by the table benches and it's perfect for having that business meeting 1:1.
I'll definitely be back; support these little independent coffee houses - not only is the coffee waaaay better, but these barista's really care about coffee.
A. P.
Lovely coffeeshop with good coffee and very friendly service
B. W.
Small cozy busy coffee shop serving some of the best coffee in Bristol. Has a really nice feel and staff are always friendly. Even though its small it has quite a bit of seating inside and out, a cozy annexe/nook now they have taken on a small room next door, a good selection of things to eat as well as coffee etc to enjoy at home.
O. W.
Top coffee and great cake, but beware, it's a trap! 🤣
K. W.
Over the last year Bristol seems to have had a number of new independent coffee shops popping up. All good for coffee lovers. Of them I would rate the Small St. Espresso as the best - excellent coffee, nice people, a small selection of great cakes and sourdough sarnies. They have a very good house espresso plus also have 'guest' coffees. Filter coffee produced by a variety of methods is also excellent. The place is tiny so can fill up quite quickly.
I. K.
Great coffee, friendly staff, nice location
H. B.
Generally I go here on my own. Not because I’m an angry loner but mostly so I can enjoy the outstanding coffee and both watch people come and go as well as the highly skilled and passionate people who work here make their coffee. It’s some of the best coffee in the country. Obviously that is just my opinion but it’s a wonder place.
D. R.
Delicious coffee and cake. Friendly owners
R. J.
Was my first time at this coffee shop (I've been wanting to visit for years!) and what a treat it was. The staff really made my visit tremendous fun and the coffee was mind bendingly wonderful. Couldn't resist trying the cakes and I can give it no less than five stars. It was totally worth the wait and I can't wait to visit again!!
B. H.
My favourite coffee shop. Small and perfectly formed. Friendly and makes THE BEST coffee. Opens early and has lush pastries and breakfast solutions...like tasted banana bread with chocolate chunks slathered in butter! They also have another shop called Little Victories at Whapping Wharf, different vibe but same great coffee.
I. R.
Very welcoming and lovely place. The pastries are very good, at least the friand I had was excellent. I am not a fan of the highly acidic espresso served these days in coffee shops that thrive to make it to the "best hipster coffee shop of 2021" or similar accolades. It's a real turn off for me and many other old world creatures that still prefer the random espresso served in any Italian train station coffee place to the pretentious stuff that has long description but, in my view, poor flavor. It's a hopeless crusade, I know, but at least italy, and few other countries (Australia comes to mind, also the republic of Tel Aviv) have not been spoiled. Yet.
D. W.
Super awesome mega coffee shop! Really friendly staff, make my morning better whenever I visit. The coffee is some of the best in the city to boot. Tasty quick food options too
R. N.
Extremely friendly, extremely good coffee. What's not to like? Quality flat white, right size, strong but not overpowering flavour. No "too cool for school" attitude, which is a big bonus.
M. J.
Really good coffee. I mean *really* good. The service is good and the cakes/pastries are also very nice. There are never enough seats free but needing to sit very close to complete strangers knowing that you both *chose* to do this because of the great beverages is sort of part of the ambiance.
F. B.
Small coffee shop that does coffee well. They have a large array of brews available with a nice selection roasters listed as well. Staff were friendly enough. It would be a nice cafe to read a book or meet up with friends.
D. W.
Possibly the first place I've had coffee in where the crema is _so_ smooth I didn't want milk! A short but excellently sourced list of coffees (and cakes), it certainly lives up to its name as there are only seats for about 10 people, so the traffic is mainly on-the-hoof coffee drinkers, but it's worth sitting and enjoying this little gem is you can and if you have a moment to spare.
A. J.
If you want delicious fancy coffee full of flavour, this is the place.
J. Y.
By far the best Coffee shop in Bristol. Really friendly guys who will make anyone feel welcome plus the know espresso like the back of their hands. The best Flat White i've ever had.
D. I.
One of, if not the best coffees in Bristol. Tiny little place tucked away on (quite obviously) Small Street, can get busy in the morning rush hour, but I've not waited longer than a few minutes.
I've only gone for filter so far, and the cups are fairly small, but you tend to drink a nice coffee a touch slower anyway rather than guzzling on a 20oz nondescript latte.
£2.00 for a filter coffee puts it pretty much in competition with chains, and If you are around the area you might as well take the detour to get a far superior beverage.
W. D.
Simply put, they do great coffee. Nice cozy atmosphere, great selection of drinks. The staff are friendly and helpful. They know their coffee.
Nice selection of cakes too.
D. P.
Beautiful place, lovely flat white, friendly staff topped off with a slice of billionaire's shortbread. Top find!
R. M.
Must stop by place in Bristol. Definitely the smallest coffeeshop in town, and yet the one I love the most. The coffee quality is outstanding and the caramel brownie is to die for! Pay them a visit coffee lovers.
J. E.
Small Street is probably my favourite coffee place in Bristol. Staff are always friendly and happy to chat, the coffee is great, and the small but well-organised venue makes for a cosy atmosphere.
D. D.
Possibly the best coffee shop in the UK. It's tiny but formidable with the best flat white this side of the Indian Ocean. Try the banana bread, toasted and with lashings of butter.
R. A.
Welcoming and unpretentious. Enjoyed an excellent aeropress in this tiny but perfectly formed coffee shop while watching the world pass by. Knowledgable staff and a good looking range of cakes, et cetera, although didn’t sample on this occasion!
B. C. S.
On a small street in Bristol, aptly named Small Street, you will find the equally aptly-named Small St Espresso. It’s a tiny espresso bar, over-flowing with love for good coffee. There’s a couple of seating areas either side of the door and another one at the back, but the bulk of the space is taken up with the tiled bar and the beautiful espresso machine. I know I shouldn’t be swayed by such superficial things, but I am.
It helps, of course, that the coffee is as beautiful as everything else in Small St Espresso. It would be a real shame if, after all that care and attention to the layout and the décor, the coffee had turned out to be rubbish. But fortunately, Chris, the head barista and joint-owner, has put as much love, if not more, into making his coffee as he has into making his coffee shop.
So, whether you are looking for a quick takeaway coffee or a sit down with a slice of cake, give Small St Espresso a try and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
J. G.
The absolute best coffee in town. They have a great selection of different roasts. The espresso is never burnt so you get to fully appreciate the flavours. Try the toasted banana bread
M. B.
Was told this was the best coffee in Bristol and I was not disappointed, in fact I’m going to say without a doubt its the best coffee I’ve had since arriving in England 5 months ago. Friendly staff and seriously good vegan banana loaf.

Great coffee I loved it
S. A.
Clean, tidy and great coffee. Would love to be able to sit in enjoy it properly post-covid life. Will update to 5* then.
R. W.
Excellent coffee and atmosphere.
J. M.
If I had a coffee shop I'd want it to look like this. It's pretty small (very apt given the street name) but manages to be both stylish and charming, cozy and cool. Oh and the coffee is truly excellent.
R.
Setting the standard for coffee shops. I plan trips around visiting the best I can find around the country. This is the best by a country mile. Run by an absolute gent, full of knowledge and enthusiasm that he's infectious in sharing.
C. M.
Love this little coffee shop. Small street, small venue.. but they serve a fantastic coffee, great little desserts with friendly staff.
N. C.
Tiny little coffee shop boasting huge croissants and fabulous coffee!
m.
Achingly trendy; excellent espresso-based coffee from La Marzocca machine with well chosen beans and roasts. Sumptuous sweet treats on the counter (I have to go in there with limited cash to curb the temptation). Free Wifi and help-yourself drinking water. My one wish would be a few more places to sit, and that one of the tables didn't leave you leaning against exposed brick wall (easy to snag your, y'know, cashmere jumper). But if it got too much bigger I suppose it would lose that hidden-gem, cramped quality that makes people keen to keep it a (sort of) secret… when they're not bragging about their discovery of superior tasting coffee that is :)
A. H.
Perfect vanilla donut.
J. L.
Very nice specialty café, pleasant staff, tasty coffee and reasonable prices. I will definitely return. The only downside is that it closes at 16:30, so it might be impossible to visit if you are busy during the day.
E. P.
Great little hidden coffee shop, with friendly baristas. Great for a catch up with a friend and quiet conversation. Rustic, with a sense of humour. Homely and chill.
S. S.
Great coffee, delicious cakes (the pecan pie is a must) and fast, friendly service.
R. L.

Best mocha I've had in a long time....but one staff member was well miserable, curt...couldn't even be bothered to make eye contact....maybe having a bad day but with so much choice of coffee shops, customer service is vital...so sorry.... I'll be going else where
G. F.
This is my favourite coffee shop in Bristol. Add some vegan sandwiches to your menu and I’ll give you a 5! :)
T. T.
Nice and intimate, with a good-sized piece of banana bread. Top-notch flat white as well, which, let's face it, is what you would expect from a coffee shop with 'espresso' in the name
