Reviews of Spicer & Cole, Clifton Village
S. S.
A great cafe fabulous breakfast and great coffee.
They have a large of snacks as well as cooked. Food. Very clean and spacious. It can get very busy at weekends but worth the wait in the queue. They also have some outside seating
E. I.
Good breakfast and good cakes. First time, will go again for sure.
Tried them during the lunch time today. Great selection yummy food and unique tea, I tried the white apricot bliss and it was a bliss indeed 🥰😍
C. W.
Great food, lovely fresh salad selection but with some ‘less healthy’ (in a good way) homemade treats too! Sausage rolls and brownies are particular favourites. Like the decor and staff are professional. Only slight issue is lack of seating at busy periods but you know a place is good if you have to wait a few minutes for a table I guess. If you get there about 1130, you can usually grab a seat.
A. S.
Came across this unexpectedly as we had had breakfast at the branch near the premier Inn and had really enjoyed it. The sandwich selection was excellent and very tasty. Sweet offerings were extremely tempting and varied. Good cup of coffee. Hard working staff. Wheelchair friendly, clean toilets.
R. B.
Love the food, service is pretty consistent and the coffee is great too.
Treats are pretty standard but enjoyable nonetheless. Seems very busy most of the week here weekends especially. Get here early to avoid a disappointing wait time!
R. A.
I've been there many times. It has great potential. However, there are some problems. For example, cakes are either oily or dry. Coffee is not as good as other places. The bread used at breakfast plates is very hard. I hope they try to do better🙏🏻
C. T.
Food was nice, albeit a bit slow to arrive considering it wasn’t that busy.
When I asked who I assume to be the manager if my food would be much longer her response was very unfriendly, borderline aggressive. Perhaps she was having a bad day. Apart from that the coffee was great, as was the cake.
I’m in Bristol for work but if I lived around here I’d definitely give it another try.
G. K.
We were there with friends on the first really warm day this year and it was packed with the queue outside. We managed to get a table but had to sit there for 15 minutes staring at dirty dishes that were cleaned only after we asked. Then we had to ask again for someone to wipe the dirty, sticky table. To balance that, food was really good and not expensive. Very tasty! A pity the staff was so disorganized, would be 5 stars easily.
B. F.
Good coffee with a nice assortment of cakes and pastries. Has soy and oat milk for alternative milk options. Gluten free and vegan options as well.
I. J.
Having previously tried (and reported on) their Gloucester Road branch, we were looking forward to trying this branch with friends. They didn't let us down. Salads (fab mix of potatoes and houmous), Parma ham foccacia sandwich and coffees were very good indeed. My standout favourite was the baked cheesecake, a real "stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth" experience, exactly as it should be. Staff helpful and the place was rammed! Well done S&C.
C. B.
Always popular, always busy, both for sitting in ( with a queue!! ) and takeaways, this establishment always goes the extra mile. Very pleasant staff, a fantastic array of salads, breads, pastries, cakes and a super squash and roasted squash, chilli, garlic and thyme soup which we both had. Could be cosy but like everywhere in the current pandemic windows and doors remain open .....keep calm .....and carry on !! Excellent.
C. G. M. (.
Very Kind Staff. All Covid-19 regulations followed strictly. Lots delicious looking snacks and sandwiches/pastries available too!
G. B.
The place looks really nice, however when we got there, they seemed to had run out of most things even though it was early lunch time. It wouldn't have been too bad, if at least they had removed the items on display that had already been purchased by other people and thus unavailable. We pointed at quite a few food items, only to be told 'Sorry, someone already ordered that, we just haven't removed it from the display and there's no more of it left" a number of times. It was quite a disappointing experience, so we ended up leaving.
F. T.
Excellent place for a bite to eat, it’s located in the heart of Clifton village. It’s a quaint place. Lovely atmosphere and nice rustic decor. The cakes are yum and the food was delicious. The coffee is perfect. The staff are very polite and helpful. The place is clean, with comfortable seating. Highly recommend this place.
P. B.
Absolutely stunning sandwiches and cakes. A must if you come visit!
A. J.
Spicer and Cole in the heart of Clifton Village is like a second home to me, the staff are welcoming and friendly, always wanting to know how I’m doing. They’ve learnt my name and learnt my drink order too. They always put a smile on my face and cheer me up on a miserable day.
The team, led by Erin are the best in Bristol, without her they'd be lost.
R. M.
Great service and great food abs perfect coffee
M. H.
Delicious breakfast!
Their espresso is really good too.
Strongly reccomend this place for breakfast, coffee, brunch.
J. H.
Located in central Clifton, there is indoor and outdoor seating. The breakfast menu, served until 11.30 includes avocado toast as well as full English and the usual sorts of baked goods. For lunch there are fresh salads and sandwiches. Thoroughly recommended.
E. M.
Lovely coffees and selection of salads at lunchtime.
M. W.
Earlier this week I achieved 'peak muffin'. I wouldn't normally food review but this marmalade and chocolate muffin was a truly sublime experience. It was still warm from baking when I returned to work to eat this delight, the magma marmalade centre provided a perfect tart sweetness and moistness to the perfectly baked cake. Honestly words fail me here, all I can say is that it was the best muffin experience of my life to date.
N. B.
Lovely staff, lovely food, very reasonable price on food menu although food took a lot longer than I expected but the taste made me forget about the time I was waiting! I had sweet potato hash, avocado, chorizo and halloumi you can also choose tofu if you're veggie. They also have wide selection of drinks either hot or cold.
B. S.
Breakfasts particularly good. Freshly pressed coffee, orange juice, and a truly massive plate of food. Very good for those with difficult dietary requirements too.
N. K.
Cozy and nice location. Good quality food from fresh ingredients. Vegan breakfast was delicious.
J. M.
Highly recommend the Serrano focaccia w goats cheese, rocket and tomato pesto.
j. r.
They always have a great breakfast, a selection of nice Toasties, and great drinks.
H. L.
The food was so good. Love the vibes and atmosphere.
E. C.
A nice atmosphere but the prices are quite steep. The coffee is good, but the service is definitely unhurried
A. J.
Brilliant coffee and very pleasant staff. Breakfast was delicious as well with fairly large portions.
B. J.
Great atmosphere & coffee & cakes to match, although come early to make sure the almond croissants have not sold out!!
G. M.
It was amazing! The lemon drizzle loaf was very tasty and the servers were very friendly :)
N. W.
Churning out some great brunches + sandwiches/salads—they're hustling hard in here, give them some love!
B. C.
Spicer & Cole was a really great experience. The venue is trendy, the menu is exciting, and the food is absolutely on point. All products used are fresh, seasonal & local, and you really can taste the difference. They even have a board explaining where the products are from, and it is great to see support of such amazing local produce. We ordered the mushroom bap and salmon bagel, and both were delicious - highly recommend!
D. C.
Excellent sandwiches lovely people and great coffee. Internet available, comfortable for work. Bit pricey but hey, it’s Clifton village!
A. F.
My experience at S+C is very good. Had brunch there and orgered their halloumi bap, and can say it was VERY tasty. Not only was the food good, but also the care taken by the staff in every way. They had a bit of a delay with our orders, and we were not in a hurry so did not complain, but they were kind and considerate enough to give us coupons for a free coffee. It is completely understandable that Covid restrictions and protocols may slow things down, so I would rarely complain about it, but their kind gesture was very thoughtful and I appreciate it.
D. C.
This was a top drawer coffee and cake visit. Very happy and helpful staff, with good service attitude toward the customer. A very decent coffee and cake. Will definitely be visiting again when in the Clifton area.
B. C.
Nice coffee shop, though staff could learn a thing or two about customer service-we normally use the Gloucester road branch. A much better customer experience. Train the staff or lose customers
R. S.
Busy place on a Sunday. Friendly staff, delicious food, good coffee.
R. M.
Stopped here with a friend as we were walking around town. Fast service and flavourful food. Outside tables were tiny but not bothered by much traffic.
M. e.
Lovely spot for lunch and great coffee!
D. R.
Meh. Felt the staff were quite rude and abrupt and the covid measures are really confusing. There's social distancing markers to stand so you go and stand on them and they tell you to stand outside letting just one person in at a time. This is fine but you have to make it clear and not just snap at people when they don't know where to stand. Not clear where you should order either so people looked lost, just help them out a bit!
Food was ok but cold and it took a while to come out so we had to go before we could say anything. Coffee was nice but there are more welcoming places around so probably wouldn't go back.
J. B.
Nice place, good selection of food with friendly staff
T. N.
Good service, nice helpful cheerful staff and grateful coffee
P. M.
Lovely staff, AMAZING cake, beautiful tea.
Love the way you present the tea, really special, and my husband has a nut and sesame seed allergy, so most cafes are out of bounds, especially the food.
I was thrilled that you had the allergy info readily to hand, and that each cake was separately covered with its own tongs to prevent cross contamination too. WELL DONE!
We will definitely come again 😊
D. L.
Good savoury options and a lovely selection of sweets to follow
i. a.
It's very good but it's a bit pricey and can be too crowded
J. R.
Went here for brunch on a Saturday morning. Good selection including veggie and vegan options. Coffee was very good too and broad selection of herbal teas and infusions. There was also a tempting selection of cakes I'll be trying in the future!!!
P. K.
Food was good, but service was a bit chaotic and messy...
I. E.
The best 5 star oatmilk cappuccino is here guys.
E. M.
Last month I stepped in for the first time and had an amazing coconut and tomato soup. The colour, texture and smell were amazing, but the TASTE was bliss. And the portion was generous, together with a perfectly toasted slice of sourdough bread. The guest coffee was delicious. Looking forward to visiting this cafe again!
C. K.
Lunch time visit on a very busy rainy Saturday afternoon. Waited a while for a table. Great soup with a good quality brown bread. The cakes looked delicious but didn't try any....next time!
P. T.
Beautiful coffee and delicious breakfast baps. The staff were very polite and friendly, and the service was very prompt.
J. W.
Nice place for a coffee although queue took a long time to serve.
H. P.
Quite busy waited short time for outside seating table as street closed to traffic 👍 tasty breakfast in not too crowded seating area.
D. T.
The food is nice - they support local suppliers and there is usually good salad. Brilliant bread and pastries. The coffee is very good. Finding a seat can be a pain. Some tutting customers are off putting.
R. V.
The coffee was very nice, the tortilla was very nice, but the staff is terrible. They gave me the tortilla immediately, but the coffee took almost 20 minutes! They were giving priority to all the people who came after me for take away! When I went to ask what happened because MAYBE they couldn't find me in their own place, the woman who looked to be in charge literally laughed at me and said that I should wave my stick with the number of my table.
No matter how nice the coffee and the food was, not going there again!
N. T.
Excellent Brunch....good selection and good quality. Didn't appear to be be reheated and was cooked to order.
Service good and prompt and with a smile...
z. b.
Warm friendly cafe with vegan options. Staff were helpful and chatty and we enjoyed a nice Thursday afternoon drink and cake for a few hours without being rushed or asked to leave. Guest coffees and teas with regular changes to the sweet treats help to keep visits here fresh and vibrant :)
R.
Really nice cafe with lots of food options for all dietary requirements. Quick friendly, very busy! You might have to wait for a table at peek time. Great Ecuadorian coffee.
J. w.
Yummy sandwiches and coffee. Great for lunch.
m. w.
Nice selection of food and drinks and reasonably priced, friendly staff. Only complaint is my cappuccino was in a very small cup for £2.80 it seems a little overpriced.
S. G.
Fantastic coffee from a great coffee house in Clifton Village. Great choices of coffee; shame they don't do Soya milk but have other choices of milk. Good selection of snacks and plenty of space to sit and relax. Good team serving and quick service that brings your coffee and food to you.
R. R.
I didn't get to try the coffee as the queue was huge (obviously popular) but they were perfectly happy for my 6 year old daughter to use the toilet.
B. S.
The coffee is hard to beat. And the COVID system works a treat. Even in the restroom.
s. t.
Not as good as their Gloucester Road site. The coffee and food is the same. The area is nicer but each time we've been there we always end up in a dingy back room.
N. H.
Nice atmosphere but prices are a little higher than perhaps they should be. Interesting food with quite a homemade quality. Portions could be slightly more generous, particularly regarding the size of the coffee cups. But it's a cosy relaxed place to meet up with people and seems to be a popular Clifton Village venue.
C. G. E.
My daughter suggested Spicer & Cole for lunch and we were so pleased she did. I had one of the most delicious sandwiches, brie and pepper, I have ever eaten. My partner had quiche which came with the most wonderful salad. Good coffee and orange juice too. Not cheap but then if it were would it have tasted so good, I doubt it!
Great location for Clifyen Village, worth a mooch around, and right nrxt door to the library.
I would definitely return if I was in the area, I might even detour to be able to go!
F. W.
As ever this excellent and ambitious project is a winner. Having sampled the delights of Spicer & Cole on other occasions and at other locations it was of no surprise when we visited the local in Clifton. Excellent choice of vegan dishes. Excellent guest coffee, this time by the Square Mile roasters. We tried the Cajamarca roast. Always packed to the rafters and rightly so.
M. C.
This is always such a pleasure to visit. Delicious and well made coffee, fantastic selection of cakes (including Vegan) polite enthusiastic staff. Totally recommended ❤
J. P.
Good food and friendly efficient service. But two poached eggs on white sourdough costs £5.45. A poached egg on it's own costs £1 leaving a piece of toasted sourdough costing £3.45 that is very strange pricing........
P. A. s.
Excellent takeaway coffees, good- looking range of cakes too although I didn't try those!
L. S.
Staff wasn't very friendly but coffee and cake was really nice. Table could do with a clean too.
J. M.
Lovely warm and friendly cafe. We took ages deciding what to eat as it all looked so tasty. The halloumi and beetroot panini was amazing. Only 2 toilets but clean.
C. Ĺ.
Very nice coffee with large selection of tempting cakes. Also have interesting breakfast choices. Will definitely be visiting again.
e. 1.
Great selection of sandwiches and cakes
C. B.
Really lovely place. Great sausage roll and flat white
Such a wait for the coffee though! Spoiled it a bit
V. W.
Pleasantly surprised.
Lovely coffee shop.
N. S.
Good coffee although there can be a bit of a wait (it's worth it though). Food can be a little exposed as there are no screens and customer have to lean over to pay (a little bit off putting).
C. C.
Lovely coffee and cake, the gluten free banana cakes is delicious, healthy lunch options too. Service can be a bit slow and there's limited seating.
J.
The coffee place I frequent the most. Probably the best flat white in bristol. Great food too.
J. M.
I used to buy handmade clubbing outfits in there from a stall with lots of UV clothing but there is lots of other stuff, I don't think I've even seen it all. There are places which are solid shops with walls and doors and another place which just has numerous stalls (though most are permanent).
K. M.
Cosy, comfortable, efficient service, great coffee with a variety food and quality cakes and pastries. Nice buzzy atmosphere. Lost a point for no paper towels in the bathroom.
A. S.
Really good breakfast but a bit pricey. On the other hand you can stay as long as you want without being annoyed. The wifi works great as well and the staff is nice.
M. T.
Best coffee I've had in recent years. Would highly recommend
D. B.
Best coffee in Bristol (beans roasted by Extract Coffee Roasters) and always interesting food options. Simple laid back yummyness.
a. S.
Very good restaurant , I just want recommend to restaurant , if the tea be more black , it will be better.
C. M.
Delicious breakfast with possibility to make it gluten free. I could exchange the sausage with halloumi, with gluten free toast. A lot of gluten free cakes and desserts as well.
C. H.
Very enjoyable way to start the day over a well crafted coffee and delicious breakfast (love their avocado on sourdough), seeing Clifton Village come alive in the morning.
e. c.
Really lovely fresh food and I think a lot is locally sourced, prices not too high and cakes are delicious!
J. B.
Really great place for an early breakfast. They open at 7.30. Good variety and a change from the normal full English.
G. S.
Interesting coffee shop....sandwiches served on a bread board.....What's wrong with plates?
Nice place but trying to be too different from the myriad of other coffee shops around.
M. C.
Friendly staff. Great for healthy lunchtime food. Nice guest teas. Only problem is that its always busy
I. P. P.
Cozy, tasty, quiet and jazzy music with home made bakery. 👍

N. P.

C. C.
Visited for an impromptu lunch. Delicious sandwiches and cake. Relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff.
J. H.
Food and coffee good. Service rather slow and haphazard, staff chatting and not concentrating on getting the cue served.
S. B.
Really great coffee.
m. m.
Great coffee and sourdough based breakfasts. Usually busy so often a wait for a table - exasperated by slow clearing.
J. F.
