Reviews of Cafédral Durham

What a great find. Cream Tea with Blueberry scones. Emily recommended lemon curd instead of jam. What an amazing combination! Thank you.
Mark was welcoming and spent time explaining how he grew the avocado trees. Lovely to talk to and welcoming to all who visit.

This is by far the best coffee shop in England. it is family owned. Owners are so friendly and they make the B.E.S.T. scones - made fresh. I had a raisin scone. it was served with fresh butter and jam 😱 so delicious! I could have stayed and eat more. the coffee was really good (don't know what brand they use) it was well balanced and fresh. the coffee shop has a pleasant atmosphere, relaxing & inviting. it was clean and everybody was friendly. If you are in Durham UK, go visit them! olga, from Boston MA

I highly recommend the blueberry and lemon scones! Excellent, handmade scones and jam, with proper clotted cream. The smoothies are delicious, but a bit expensive for how much you get. Lovely little cafe with friendly staff.

Cafedral is a favorite of mine in Durham. The warm and inviting atmosphere make it an excellent spot in the winter to stop for a hot drink and some breakfast or lunch. You cannot really go wrong with the soup of the day, especially if it's bacon and lentil, though all the paninis are also outstanding, as are the bagels. It also has the bonus of being well-located near the town centre and cathedral, and provides an outstanding experience overall.

Stumbled across this cute little cafe late in the day, the terrace area and the entrance are charming and the staff I encountered were very friendly. The homemade lime & coconut cake was beautiful! And I can see why their hot chocolates are award winning!! I’ve found my new favourite cafe :)

I love the relaxing and unpretentious atmosphere found each time I visit Cathedral. Popular with university students and tourists, it's a great place to rest up for an hour or two.
Every corner of the upstairs area contains something of interest; from lush indoor plants to the wall decor, hanging lighting and curios dotted here and there. No two areas feel the same and you can never get bored of being here.
Some examples of snacks we enjoyed were:- bagels with avocado, peppers and hummus,
Scone with strawberry jam (optional clotted cream), Bacon sandwich. Pots of earl grey and English breakfast tea.
Well worth a visit!
A. A.
Nice and airy upstairs space, the fresh feeling enhanced by plants. Friendly staff, good coffee and excellent scones. Also, the breakfasts on other folks' tables look good.
K. L.
One of the top cafes in Durham, with the best hot chocolate, tea and scones. Great location next to the cathedral. Usually a queue, but it’s worth it!
C. R.
The food was nice and the interior is cool, but the person who served us was quite rude and unfriendly. Not a fan of the ‘you can’t work here’ signs, think this deters regular customers in a university city and gives off the energy that their goal is to cash you out and kick you out. Will give it another chance though.

We visited this busy establishment for the first time this week and was certainly not disappointed. Service was relaxed, friendly and very professional. We just had coffee and scones on this visit ( very tasty!) but we'll be visiting again for something off the menu. Although busy the staff went out of their way to find us a seat. It was great to find a dog friendly establishment! All in all an enjoyable visit to this individual eatery and certainly a positive addition to the hospitality businesses in Durham City. 🙂👍

Such a lovely place, beautiful decoration, super friendly staff and a nice , caring owner. My kids stated they had the beat hot chocolate in their lives 😆 (oat milk+ marshmallows)

Visited Durham for the first time & stopped here. Good service, but seemed rather expensive. We had 3 drinks, 2 cheese scones & a slice of cake & paid £25. There was a drinks' menu but no prices for cake/scones visible anywhere. Also scones were different to how we get them down south, here they were more like buns, still tasty though, just not the same. Would recommend but it isn't cheap.
A. A.
Lovely setting and atmosphere. Good service, Quiche was delicious. Bagel was nice but not outstanding. Would love to come back and try some cake!
j. b.
Lovely lunch. Hubby had bacon, sausage, brie and cranberry quiche, which he said was very tasty and I had the falafel wrap with a generous side salad. Dressing that comes with salad is delicious and they were selling bottles of it which we couldn't resist. Scones are top notch too.
M. W.
Excellent welcome on a wet day Very busy.lovely staff and atmosphere.Dog friendly but up 2 flights of stairs.
Prices as you would expect for the centre of Durham but had better quality cakes and scones elsewhere..
Very strange having icing sugar on scones and full of baking powder therefore dry.
S. A.
Nice tea and smoothies, great salads and bagels. Plenty of other options. The cakes and scones looked good. Point to note the main cafe is Upstairs and only one toilet up more stairs
t. s.
Gorgeous breakfast, l had the Eggs Royale, spot on. Scones were nice as well. Service quick and friendly. Decor light and bright. A few stairs to get up or there are a couple of tables outside.
d. “.
A nice airy upstairs cafe, unfortunately unless one of the two or three outdoor tables are available it is inaccessible to any with mobility issues as there are about three flights of stairs (toilets are up a further flight of stairs!) Staff are amiable and helpful. Good selection of cakes and light snacks, tried a fruit scone but found it a little dry and overdone. A little on the expensive side, but as it is so close to the cathedral and castle to be expected.
D. i.
Without doubt, a tiny gem (plenty of room upstairs) almost tuckled away and possibly purposely hidden to allow only visitors and residents 'in the know' to enjoy probably the best food, (and the delicious scones) and coffee in the city.
These people know how to run a great cafe and eatery.
I'm a regular....the Flat White coffees are, well, proper Flat Whites!
And a clever play on words (Cafedral, en route to the Cathedral) to boot.
c. g.
Scones were homemade, excellent. We had the blueberry lemon variety. The lemon jam, also homemade, was unique and quite yummy. I also enjoyed by banana smoothie.
D. M.
Lovely greeting as we approached looking for somewhere for a light lunch . Offered samples at the door and I believe it may have been the owner who reassured us our pet dog was also welcome . It was just what we had been looking for , for a light lunch . Dogs were being offered bowls of water which as it was a hot day was a lovely touch . Quirky inside , the service was great , the food good and the owner keen to know everything was ok as we left
E. A. D. S.
It's a beautiful place to go with family! The building is amazing! They have a lovely gift shop around and a cafe. I love it! You can see a Lego miniature of Durham Cathedral and a place where Harry Potter was filmed!
P. B.
Superb from start to finish! Very welcoming cafe with superbly friendly staff and amazing food! Can't wait to go back. ❤️
A. L.
As a local this has become the Cafe I tend to come to if I want to eat in town. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, tasty food and vegan options. It can get busy but you can't fault the place for being popular. Prices are a bit high but it is right next to a world heritage site so that is to be expected I suppose. As for the mean reviews by people (students) wanting to sit on their laptop nursing a cup of tea, well I agree with the owner's policy on that one. People want to be able to get a seat and the owner needs to make money so the policy is fair enough if you ask me. I have never felt rushed.
M. A. W.
Nice place, full of plants and delicious food... A great option in Durham very close to the cathedral
K. B.
Delightful décor, buzzing, happy customers, lovely scones and clotted cream. Warm, friendly staff. The café I'm always seeking but have yet to find in Newcastle. What about opening a second Cafedral up here in the region of Newcastle's historic St. Nicholas Church?
K. G.
Tasty soup and really fast service, reminded me of my mom’s food. You have to use the stairs to access the restaurant which it’s in a second floor. The place is nice, hipster-ish and flowery.
M. T.
Quick lunchtime snack, friendly staff, tasty tuna panini. The petit POIs in the salad were awesome. About as good as you're going to get for a quick bite. Lovely cafe inside too, green with plants, bright and open.
M. C.
Absolutely 💯 gorgeous home made cake, good coffee and friendly staff bohemian style very comfortable atmosphere positioned right near the cathedral its perfect for all occasions. It does sell food, I've only sampled the cake as yet ! be warned they are generous with the portions.
F. M.
Very quaint decor. Expensive in my opinion. Very small coffee £2.80. scone £3.90.
J. B.
A busy cafe right next to the cathedral, savour and sweet scones were phenomenal
c. w.
Really friendly, good and efficient staff. Lovely food and hot drinks.
E.
such a beautiful cafe, the staff are so friendly overall a 10/10🫶🏽
K. v.
Excellent fresh baking (scones and cakes). Cheerful, colourful ambiance with lots of pot plants.
C. B.
Quirky and busy with efficient service and pleasant staff. For Durham City centre location ( just down from the cathedral) very good prices. Would call again when in Durham. Take note lot of steps/stairs up to the cafe.
S. H.
Hot chocolate was lovely. Staff very polite. It was nice to sit outside and watch the world go by.
R. K.
Pretty cafe with friendly staff and nice and cozy atmosphere. Service is quick but they clear your table very quickly too so perhaps not a place where you can relax and read a book. We’ve enjoyed the scone and their famous hot chocolate.
Y. Y.
What a lovely takeaway. The scone is so yummy indeed! Had accidentally bumped into the boss of this cafe, and he was so full of wise judgement during a polite conversation with a sit-in customer. Would definitely visit again.
N. R.
Fabulous tasty cheese scone with cheese and chutney, great coffee, mince pies super service. WONDERFUL
S. C.
Lovely lunch with friends. Dog friendly cafe
L. W.
Absolutely fabulous. Waited for the gluten free lemon sponge as it was baking when I turned up with my son, which was yummy and warm. Very pleasant staff and quirky cafe right near cathedral 😃👍
F.
The food is great - very tasty. There were communication issues around the vegan options and took a while to sort out but it was sorted out in the end. If you're not Vegan, you'll have absolutely no problems. If you are, just make sure you communicate this to the staff.
L. L.
Very nice and beautiful cafe ☺️ I will definitely visit again 👍
L. V.
Nice food and nice place. Don’t give them more stars because the staff was only alright.
R. F.
Scones were fresh, tasted great, and the service was quick and friendly.
E. S.
If I could give more I would. A real hidden gem in Durham. Had a lovely talk with one of the staff about the avocado plants and he kindly gave me one of the saplings to take home. Amazing food, delicious scones and lovely staff. Will definitely visit here if I ever go to Durham again.
I. D.
What a find. A lovely place, great food, and a lovely chat to the gentlemen who was telling us about York. (We were visiting there the day after)
D. J.
Very busy and rightly so.
Great food and great tea. Lovely GF scones- beautiful and warm
D. S.
Love this little cafe. Always greated with a smile. Had delicious panini with a brew and took scones home as I was so full. The mismatched chairs, tables and crockery works really well and adds to its charm.
N. W.
Best cafe and lovely service + amazing food
J. R.
Lovely quirky cafe. We waited ages to be served. It was busy with people queuing to get in. However the dark haired older woman(possibly the owner) who was taking the orders chose to chat for ages with a couple who were seated opposite us. She completely ignored us even tho she'd spoken to us on arrival. I eventually had to get up & go to the counter to ask if we could order. The dark haired lady eventually came over and said she thought someone had taken it, even tho she appeared to be the only one taking orders! Very rude!
With that aside the other staff were lovely and apologised for the delay. The cakes we had were really lovely, tasty & moist.
The other food we saw looked really nice & well presented.
The food was lovely, the service was dire!
S. M.
We visited the place for lunch. The staff are very friendly and understood our dietary requirements (Vegan). Had paninis and wraps, it tasted awesome.
L. C.
Excellent food with lovely staff 5/5 any time of day
C. P.
An amazing find, fabulous home cooking, soup was just lovely & the scones to die for!! Very reasonably priced. What an amazing setting, not only do they do amazing food, but they also know all about plants and flowers!! Spent the afternoon here with a friend, if I was local, I would come back every week!!
D. T.
Lovely place to have lunch. Tastefully decorated in an ecletic style.
A. C.
Love this quirky eclectic artisan cafe. Top of our list in the whole of the North East. The food is fresh and delicious and the cakes are especially outstanding served along with exquisite coffee. Lovely staff, so welcoming and dog friendly too. You would be crazy to go anywhere else!
E. T.
This is my favourite café in Durham, great sandwiches, panini, cakes, the best scones ever. And the coffee and tea is really good too. Staff and owners very friendly and welcoming. At the moment they are doing takeouts and still delicious.
I. P.
Great hosts and staff. Homemade food, reasonable prices. Although busy maintain a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. The world is better because of Durham. Durham is better because of Cafedral.
H. T.
Lovely ambiance and menu selection 🌹❤️
M. S.
It was my first visit to this cafe, I was accompanied by two friends. We were very satisfied with the meals, the surroundings are very pleasant and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We will definitely visit again.
S. C.
Visited for breakfast roll and coffee deal mid morning and found the cafe to be very welcoming, such lovely and genuine people. Superb setting and well appointed, with real care to service and surroundings, despite the challenges of the restrictions. Can heartily recommend a visit! Thanks very much!
C. N.
Loved this cafe. Decor: rustic charm with flowers and plants giving it a homely feel. We stopped for tea and cake - freshly bakes scones that melted in the mouth. The staff were so friendly. You must go to this cafe if you're near the cathedral or castle.
R. A.
Amazing food, busy atmosphere but really cozy. Even though it was packed it felt like you had privacy because everyone was in their own little bubble at their own table. Staff are nice and the food is freshly cooked/baked. I have leukemia so hygiene is a big thing for me and the toilet facilities were very clean. We will definitely be visiting again.
강.
The service was on point! All the plants in the café are beautiful and the owners are lovely! Reasonably priced as well! Definitely a good spot for afternoon tea after wondering the cathedral.Lovely ambience and surroundings. Fabulous food. Helpful and chatty staff. Delightfully dog friendly. In one word superb.
S. A.
Lovely cafe beside Durham Cathedral. Excellent service, good food and reasonably priced. Would definitely go back. The hot chocolate was brilliant!!!!
S. J.
A particularly good cafe, even by Durham's high standards. It is quirky, with a range of seating, plants and music. But at the same time the focus remains on excellent quality food. There's a selection of hot chocolates, normally a fairly decent selection of cake (with a speciality in scones) and excellent quiches and salads. Prices are reasonable - you could definitely have a nice lunch and cake for £10. Most importantly of all, the staff are very friendly.
Only more negative note is that they can be busy in summer and around lunchtime/their busy periods they prohibit laptops or working inside.
a. v.
very quaint and cozy place. For starters, don't be fooled by the small outdoor space. the cafe is located on the second floor but there is a surprising amount of seats indoor, in a very nice and cozy environment. We had a salad and a scone. The salad was great but the scone was amazing, super fluffy and delicious. But best of all, the hot chocolate! they have awards on their walls for their hot chocolate, and each one of them is well deserved! a must if you are in Durham.
M. W.
Really nice cafe. Working spaces during less busy times. The cafe is located on the first floor- not accessible, but there are two tables outside on the ground floor. Very nice home made cakes and scones!
A. D.
Nice cafe, friendly staff but very overpriced for the portions. The drinks especially. I was very disappointed with my "award winning" hot chocolate that was gone in 3 gulps at around £4 depending on if or not you get marshmallows and cream.
M. C.
Amazing scones! The service was on point! All the plants in the café are beautiful and the owners are lovely! Reasonably priced as well! Definitely a good spot for afternoon tea after wondering the cathedral.
p. b.
Lovely fresh scones and hot chocolate!!
M. B.
Eclectic decor. Friendly staff. Lovely selection of food on the menu. Good sized portions especially the freshly made smoked mackerel pate. Sandwiches come with choice of a side of salad or crisps. Only negatives are the wobbly tables and the fact that the cafe is upstairs.
L. L.
Had scones and a drink, to keep us going until evening. Nice cafe, pleasant and good scones.
L.
The best scones I have ever had and they have gluten free option too!
T. S.
Food was really good. Atmosphere and staff very pleasant. Coffee needs upgrading.
A. S.
My favourite cafe in Durham. If you like flat white but want somewhere cheaper and where you don’t have to queue outside in the cold to get in then this is the place for you! The coffees and cakes are delicious as are the sandwiches if you’re going for something a bit more filling!
D. L.
Wonderful food and drinks. Orange hot chocolate was absolutely superb. Had a lovely quiche and shared a fruit scone. Everything was delicious. We would definitely return!
T. S.
If we are visiting or indeed passing Durham, we endeavour to visit this wonderful cafe. The eccentric layout of the cafe creates areas within areas. The seating is an absolute joy. The plants which adorn the cafe are lovingly attended by the dedicated owner. So do not take cuttings without permission. Once visited, hopefully the efforts which go into making this place so special, will draw you back time and again. The food and service is worthy of it's unique environment.
K. K.
Very pleasant staff. A nice airy & relatively spacious cafe with a tiny outdoor area. Scones, snacks coffees & tea very tasty, nicely presented and good value.
D. C.
Food is amazing here, been multiple times and is essential if you are visiting the Cathedral. May not always find a seat as it can be quite popular at lunch times. Owner is great, very friendly he came and had a chat with us to make sure we were enjoying everything.
A. J.
Friendly staff, really nice atmosphere, great scones and cakes. Only issue you might have is potentially not getting a seat at peak times. Hearty recommendation to go and try the Lime cake.
K. H.
Lunch at Cafedral two days ago was spectacular! Food was excellent, staff so friendly and polite! We were meeting up with long lost friends we've not seen for almost 50 years and chose Cafedral for lunch...2hrs+ (thank you for letting us stay for so long)! Superb food, excellent decor and atmosphere! First class! Thanks Pamela for taking photo's for us..definitely be back next time we are in Durham..!
S. D.
We have regularly eaten at Cafederal and always enjoy the delicious selection of food and cakes. The atmosphere is lovely, friendly staff and certainly is a unique environment. We love it so much we bought a wonderful painting from the very talented owner, Pamala, which now takes prime position in our living room. (We wish we could have bought all the pieces on display!). The original painting will always be treasured and constantly reminds us of our many visits to such a amazing city. Thank you again for the memories. :)
H. E.
Such a lovely spot! Couldn’t recommend it enough 🧁
E. S.
Lovely cup of mint tea in a gorgeous little café, will be back again to try the scones
f.
Absolutely lovely. The chai latte was the best I've had in years—flavorful and not watered down as they so often are. The tomato basil soup came with a roll whose texture was just perfect. Add in the charming decor and friendly staff and you've got a 5/5!
H. A.
The staff are so attentive and the food made for a lovely breakfast! The decor is really stylish and so comfortable, would definitely recommend
J. S.
What a quirky little gem! One of the friendliest and warmest greetings Ive had from staff too which instantly melted us into our seats. Lunch food was so tasty, fully satisfied table of four mid-afternoon. Please try the award winning hot chocolate, the best Ive ever had! Thank you & well done Team!
L. R.
Best scones ever! Great ambience and service. Was at Harrods earlier that week and the whole experience was better at Cafedral. Wish I lived in Durham would be a regular there. Lovely people who run it.
F. B.
Lovely place with several vegan options including a falafel wrap, panini, avocado bagel, scones and more. Just ask for the vegan menu!
L. M.
Absolute marvel! Gorgeous place, decor is fantastic! Honestly feels like being at your aunties! Beautiful food and great people working! The scones are worth waiting for!
R. T.
Lovely little café situated just around the corner from the castle and cathedral. The service was very friendly and welcoming and the food was both good value as well as being generously portioned. The quiche is highly recommended, especially when washed down with a slightly odd, but very enjoyable salted caramel latte.
W. S.
Great find. Small and intimate with gluten and lactose free options. The gluten free scones were fresh and tasty - welcome surprise for weary travellers!
C. U.
Delightful cafe en route from the Cathedral back down in to the town. Perched on a corner we were able to sit outside surrounded by masses of petunias etc and enjoy a good cup of coffee and a freshly baked scone. We had to go upstairs to order and found a fascinating light and airy cafe where we were greeted by a very pleasant young man who brought our order down to us. So pleased we stopped here if only for a short time.
T. W.
Great atmosphere, lively and good location near the cathedral! Quiche here is superb, and their coffee even better. Had to get myself a loyalty card!
F.
a beautiful cafe with a lovely atmosphere !! i left my rings behind a few days before and the staff were all incredibly helpful and supportive, and i managed to get them back promptly :) thank you !!
T. L. U.
Called in for a light lunch. The chicken, bacon & leek pie was out of this world & the balsamic dresding for the salad was perfect & great coleslaw. Then a fruit scone with jam & cream which was equally as good. Very friendly staff. Definitely be calling back again.
t. o.
We were just walking by, looking for a cafe. A man, who we later learnt is Mark, was working outside and he offered us some pieces of scones. He was very friendly and persuasive so in we trooped. Four adults, two three year olds and a labrador. Outcome, seven very happy customers. We just had drinks and cakes but there's a full menu. The place was full, which is a good sign. Highly recommended.
S.
Well worth the 3 or 4 flights of stairs you climb to enter. Shabby chic interior in a historic Durham building. The coffee is great and so are the cakes. The fruit scones are delicious. They serve savoury food too- the ploughman's lunch was tasty but a HUGE portion. Always busy but not too busy that you'll never find a table. Every time I go to Durham, I find an excuse to visit Cafedral!
A. P.
Quaint and cozy light lunch spot with excellent scones if you fancy a cream tea. This place is always busy, so be prepared to wait. If you get lucky, grab a spot on the sofa next to the fire!
J. B.
Such a lovely and inspiring place! Very cosy and original interior, excellent food, nice staff. I came here every day. Do try the scones!
H. S.
What a lovely little hidden gem right in the heart of the world heritage site. Hot drinks and cake were lovely and the table service was a nice touch. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
j. m.
Lovely place to call for cake, coffee and more with the added bonus of being able to take your dog in too.
Covid secure, lovely staff and surroundings. Highly recommended
F. J.
Absolutely loved it! Fantastic little cafe, really friendly staff, great location. The cutest place we found, and the hot chocolate and cakes are to die for
D. F.
Wow! We loved this beautiful quirky little cafe. The service was warm , inviting and excellent. The food was fantastic, delicious and reasonably priced. An absolute jewel in Durham's crown. Well worth a visit.
J. A.
Lovely little cafe, had a wonderful vegan soup, not easy to find places that cater for vegans! Please keep up the good work and I’ll be visiting again for sure! Staff all super friendly too !
C. M.
Loved the savoury scone and tea. Great surroundings and very friendly staff. Thank you on our 1st visit to Durham
A. P.
Very good food especially Veggie and sociable atmosphere in a concerted old building. Great location near the world heritage site of Durham Cathedral . Happy friendly staff too.
H. P.
Our favourite place to eat in Durham, nothing else comes close. Keep up the amazing bakes and lunches guys!
J. P.
Pleasant and comfy, relaxed and restful
J. O.
Top notch service, friendly staff, & scrumptious scones!
S. L.
Pretty little cafe, lovely decorated and friendly staff. Not so good to work there though - at busy times they are a 'laptop- and work-free zone' and will eventually ask you to leave if you're not ordering anyth.
P. B.
Food has always been lovely everytime I've been in . Will always go back . Well worth a visit
P. T.
Excellent coffee, fantastic cake selection and good prices just a stone's throw from the Cathedral. If you fancy a coffee in the city of Durham here's where you need to go.
E. B.
The Cafédral is probably the best café in all of Durham – the owners are amazing people with true passion for their work, the food is amazing and the drinks are too. Don't miss out on this place if you're in Durham, it's worth every pound (not that they're expensive at all)!
M. F.
Lovely cafè, a hidden gem with delicious scones and kind stuff. The upstairs floor is worth the trip!
Y. H.
Enjoyed our scones and latte
L. H.
Loved this cafe but there are a lot of stairs to climb to get to the cafe. Wouldn't recommend if you are not good on your pins. Service and food is excellent.
C. W.
Great place for a coffee and home made scones with jam and cream. Very friendly owner and staff, varied menu if a scone isn't your thing.
N. S.
An enjoyable brew in a good location near the cathedral. Would recommend for a small intimate group. Nice family atmosphere.
k. e.
What a fab little place, quite bohemian in appearance. Staff were exceptionally friendly, the cakes were wonderful and the chai latte delicious. Well done x
a. w.
Excellent cafe style food and drinks with the more human touch, that is missing from the large chains.
M. C.
Very good healthy food for all tastes including vegan options. Oat milk latte one of the best in Durham.
Y. H.
Lovely coffee and scones
G. L.
Really good cappuccinos but the waiter kept asking if we would like to order more every 5 minutes. Felt really rushed even when the restaurant wasn’t busy. Quite annoying. We’ve been asked 7 times in just one hour. Would not recommend doing any work here. Really pushy staff.
M. D.
What a great find, food and staff amazing
M. K.
Our French friends said the espresso coffee was better than in France.
Lovely scones with jam and clotted cream
Thanks
A. T.
Lovely cafe full of chame just a stone's throw from the cathedral nice hot Italian coffee with a fruit scone not too expensive am definitely going back there for a slice of coffee cake
J. E.
It has everything we would want. Lovely ambience and surroundings. Fabulous food. Helpful and chatty staff. Delightfully dog friendly. In one word superb.
J. P.
Had takeaway panini here during lockdown. Fresh, tasty and good value considering how close to palace green it is. Lovely staircase.
J. P.
Doesn’t matter what you order, it will be top notch quality. Everyone in our party of 11 loved it. We cleaned our plates and any scrap that got left behind. We will be back! 🙂♥️👍
C. I.
Food, drink and service was excellent. However I find your name almost unforgivable. Ask yourself, how many of you customers pronounce café, kaff? (UPDATE!!!!-I gave you a star back because the sign above your door changed)
Also I like Pepsi max not coke.
D. B.
A hidden gem of a coffee shop come cool bistro. Goof vibe, ikletic mix of furniture nick nacs and plants. Exceptional coffee, super friendly team, great customer service with nothing an issue.
M. T.
Great teashop. Best coffee and walnut cake i have had in a long time. Staff made us feel welcome. Lovely ambience
D. S.
Love this retro cafe. The scones are to die for. Straight from the oven . Staff and management are lovely really enjoyed this place . A must visit.
R. K.
Nice tea room in Durham just down form the Cathedral. Great ambiance. and a wonderful place to relax and have a latte or tea
F. A.
Lively food, I had a fruit scone with jam and cream and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hot chocolate has to be one of the best I've had!
C. G.
Literally the best food here. Tasty above average panini fresh salad and dressing (nice touch) homemade coleslaw. Cosy but friendly. Disabled access limited though.

Fantastic scone, melt in the mouth red velvet cake. Quaint, bright and airy tearoom atmosphere. Fantastic customer service.
Y. M.
Just having ploughmans panini and fresh scone with cream and jam delicious. Brilliant staff. Didn't have to wait long at all. Would highly recommend.
s. p.
Beautiful cakes and coffee, lovely easy going atmosphere in a central position.Quite a few stairs up so not ideal for those with mobility problems
M. J.
So pleased I found this hidden gem in the heart of Durham city. Pleasant staff, cosy atmosphere, great coffee and lovely breakfast. Thoroughly recommend a visit.
H. L.
Fantastic place to come and have a coffee with friends and family. Lovely atmosphere, really friendly staff and a great all round vibe for coffee drinking.
V. K.
Excellent spot on a sunny day outside, food as fresh as could be, mackerel pate... Best I've had, nice friendly chatty owner! Definately visit again when in Durham 😎

Quirky and brilliant, such a wonderful place. The meal was nice, the tuna panini and side salad. Well worth a visit and would definitely visit again.

A definite good find! Not the most likely place you'd fall into by accident, but not difficult to find if you focus. It's in a higgledy piggledy location up a few stairs, but you come in to the café and think "gosh! this looks good."
I had a panini which is served with potato crisps and salad dressing (£1 extra) and was very pleased with it.
J. B.

(Translated) The atmosphere is very good, and the British Sikon is probably the best restaurant in Durham.
It's a pity that Earl Grey tea is made from tea bags, and it doesn't taste very good.
