Parking is limited but I parked at County Hall for free and walked into the park

Our first visit here since the total makeover of Wharton Park. Wow! It's now a beautiful place to relax and wander around. We had our 4 Yr lod granddaughter with us and she loved it. There's play areas for the kids, info for the older folk regarding the history of the park. Fantastic views of Durham, it's Cathedral and Castle. There's parking and a lovely cafe. Perfect for a couple of hours relaxing. We recommend a visit.

I visited the park for the first time after the renovation. Some of it is still in progress. Wharton park has always been one of my favourites and is getting better. It is a nice place for a stroll in the middle of Durham and offers a great view of the cathedral and city on a clear day. The heritage cafe is a bit limited in its offerings that's the only down side.

A great place made better in recent years, for children and adults alike. I've been going to Wharton Park for nearly 50 years. I love it. The star that's missing is for how steep it is in places, and the number of steps there are to climb as I get older 😊

Very nice place, but as always, parks spend a bit of money on it, and get greedy and start charging for parking. I know its just a few pounds, but still, we used to go more when it was quieter (less packed) and the parking was free. Still, u can't have it all ways. Great views of the railway bridge and cathedral

Overall the new-look park is great. There is a lot to do, and great views of city. The community garden looks really good, and the concerts in the summer were amazing. It's great to hear so many birds singing in the city centre! There are some things they could do better however - Firstly, the cafe is only open on weekdays during term time. This is a terrible waste of tax payer/lottery money which was used to build these great facilities, only for them not to be used! If you have a good cafe, with friendly staff and a good range off food, then people will come. People need to spend more time outdoors getting exercise and socialising, especially in the winter. It would be a great incentive for people to come to the park. I would also suggest a pedestrian crossing on the Eastern side of the park, as it is impossible to cross the road into the main park entrance.

Had a lovely stroll around the park today with my Mum. We had lunch sitting outside the Heritage Centre, the tea and toasties were lovely. Even though Mum is in her 70's, we had a good time using the outdoor gym equipment! The cafe staff, park keepers and the community garden volunteers were all really friendly. We spent two enjoyable hours here. When the renovations are finished on the cathedral the views will be spectacular.

Lots of excellent play equipment for children. Parking is limited, 50p per half hour on site. Nice cafe in view of play area. Interesting historic notice boards. Good view of cathedral and railway.

Nice Park. Bit rubbish for parking though. Cafe isn't up to much. Make sure you have change for the electric cars for the kids as the really unhelpful staff couldn't care less if you or the shop hasn't got change! Even though they have keys for the cars and could easily get change from them. We booked a Teddy bears picnic most pointless waste of time and money ever.

Spent a sunny winters day there with 2 and a half year old. Lots of things to do and see. Different play parks. The elf hunt had been left up so good fun

This is newly renovated. You can sit inside and have a coffee whilst the kids play in the play park which is directly next to it and you can see them the whole time through the windows. They usually have craft activities on in another room when we visit.

Adjacent toilets very clean, centre is very interesting and the cafe is modern and bright.

It's good, but overpriced and there's only one till, so queues are always a thing to deal with here. Or they have been every time I have been. But the food is nice, as is coffee, lovely views and a nice place to sit after a walk up the hill to it.

Very nice place to visit..... No blue badge concessions as is the same throughout the majority of Durham city and even outlying districts. Council should hang their heads in shame.
