Reviews of Café Florentin

'It's OK' about sums it up. Coffee good, hot food not so great. Full breakfast served on freezing cold plate and some elements underdone, bits had clearly been cooked first and left to cool.not much effort. Friendly and comfortable though. I would give one more chance, but was interested to see a poor food review not long prior to mine.

Amazing flat white coffee and pear tarts. Aside from great coffee, the Florentin is slightly less hectic than its neighbour cafe. The cafe really has a different feel: more relaxed and laid back. That is probably due to the innumerable leather sofas and armchairs scattered around the café to complement the vintage chairs and tables. Even the coffee is served in 70s-style cups and saucers. It would be nice if they could eventually have radiators on the wall to heat the café instead of the mobile ones dotted around strategically. That said, it’s not a deal breaker.
What I like about this café is its community spirit both in terms of serving it’s neighbours and sharing the work of its local artists. For example, there is currently an exhibition by a local visual artist Hannah Kelly whose work is delightful.
Art and great coffee. Can’t be bad
POSTSCRIPT: As of 25 July 2021 Covid-19 implementations, they have spaced out their seating and have sanitisers and persecute screens between the tables. They also have a QR code on the menu that is a checkin to the government app to register your whereabouts. Really good communication. Coffee and pastries are still delicious.

Lovely wee cafe that also serves light bites. We had a selection of soups, sandwiches, quiches (very tasty) and burgers. We had a great time and enjoy the view and some sunshine. The coffee is great and they also have a nice selection of sweets, cakes, croissants 🥐. We’ll come back for another lunch break 👌🏻🙂

Everything friendly! Great choice of food (even for gf people like myself), staff are always lovely and our dog gets treats too!

This is the best dog friendly cafe I’ve been to. They are prepared. They have biscuits for your dog & will provide a water bowl. Lovely staff. We went for breakfast. The breakfast is massive, we wasn’t expecting all that food. Great value for money. I would definitely go back again.

Nice Sunday morning breakfast. Coffee good. Food nice. Staff friendly. Enjoyed eggs royal and sourdough toast.

It's a nice place. The Full Scottish breakfasts have generous portions, and the atmosphere is friendly.

I love this coffee house, although it slightly changed since last time, not the same board with all the nice stuff on it but things change and honestly it great and still most enjoyable .
Great meeting point for me and the coffee is great.
Nice 😁

Hot chocolate was good, coffee meh, insipid. Layout and ambience decent

Amazing!
Only visiting Edinburgh, but should we be around again, definitely will pop back in!
We got in with our dog, who was welcomed by a very nice lady who immediately offered a bowl of water and a biscuit.
Delicious coffee!

Absolutely delicious lunch, with great gluten and dairy free options!

Cosy neighborhood cafe with nice soup and tasty croque monsieur. Great art on the walls at the moment too.
D. C.
A great cafe with a relaxed atmosphere and lonely staff who are really friendly.
A lovely place to chill with friends
Unfortunately they don't deserve gluten free food, but I'm sure it's good :)

Love Cafe Florentin since their days at Stockbridge. Great coffee and an excellent breakfast 😋
J. C.
Very warm welcome and dog friendly. Staff even offered dog a biscuit and bowl of water which he happily accepted! Hot choc delicious too. Would have no hesitation in recommending this casual and comfortable wee cafe.8
C. K.
Great Cafe. Could be a little warmer in winter but I really like going each week. A shame today though as the coffee today was boiling hot and burnt. I prefer independent cafes but please make great coffee!
L. K.
Delicious hot chocolate and fruit scone. Nice atmosphere and staff friendly. I will go back again. 🥰

Rather pricey for quite average fayre. Staff seemed a bit disinterested when we visited on Sunday afternoon recently - having booked - and we were slightly disappointed brunch wasn't on offer. Maybe it's normally got a different vibe in the absence of a pandemic. Who knows?!
A. C.
Relaxed, comfortable atmosphere with a trendy edge. The cakes are delicious here but the cafe pug outshines even the lovely service here- he's so cute! And loves to play if you're in the mood and will leave you to be if that is your preference
V. D.
Good espresso, friendly and polite staff. Place for town lovers ))
K. H.
Brilliant! Dog friendly and lovely staff
J. L.
Excellent. Plain Scones are excellent, one of the very few cafes that do plain scones. Staff very pleasant
S. S.
Lovely little cafe with good selection of toasties /sandwiches and always delicious soup! Good with kids - highchairs available - but keep in mind you'll have to change your wee one on a mat on the toilet floor as there is not changing table...
M. M.
Excellent coffee, really like the ambience of the place. New owners have added loyalty card and it feels that it’s being run more professionally. Wifi available for the people that can’t live without it. The staff are really good! All the best!

Nice quiet coffee shop in Merchiston with good vibes and good coffee

This cafe is suitable to come to work on laptops, mid afternoon anyway, as I saw 3 separate people doing so. There were all ages of adults. However, I've not ever saw kids in here. That's not to say this place doesn't accommodate children, I've just never saw any.
There is a good selection of tea, any coffee I could think of they steamed to sell. They sell cakes/ tray bakes, I didn't eat any just saw them on display. Also cold drinks are on offer here, fresh apple juice for example. Also cold coffee too.
I think the pricing is not anything I'd comment on being either expensive or inexpensive. It was priced as much as you'd expect any cafe in Edinburgh to be. I think the free wi-fi is an arraction for students near by. It's pretty peaceful which I think is why it's a chosen spot for studying?
There was a sense of ambience, music playing which wasn't too loud to hear yourself think or converse comfortably with your company. As much as the cafe is suitable for working on laptops, it's a cafe equally as good to come with a friend and catch up. That's the only reason I've ever attended here.
I can't say for certain what food (cakes being the exception) if any is sold here? I've not ever ordered anything but a coffee, I order the same everytime. Not everyone I go with order the same everytime. I know their teas are popular.
There is a toilet facility, although I can not comment on cleanliness or hygiene as I've not ever visited it.
Overall the place was pretty clean, the theme is a rustic, quirky kind of feel. Worn suitcases used as a table so it goes with the theme of the place a little.
There are numerous types of seating and tables. Different heights and styles of seats and tables/ objects used as tables of different heights and sizes. I think everyone would find a comfortable seat regardless if your preferences.
I'd recommend it for coffee and somewhere that's not too far from town but seems much further as its fairly quiet. It's maybe 10 mins walk from Harrison park. A complete guess I'd say 20 mins walk from meadows.
Im not sure if people would say this cafe is in polmont or merchiston but it's at the roundabout where there's other shops.
Go have a look see what you think.

Odds & Ends is a new, fresh and hipster coffee shop brightening up the streets of Polwarth. The staff are friendly and chatty, the coffee is good and there's a great selection of cakes and soups. There's a relaxed atmosphere where you feel free to sit for as long as you like without the pressure to buy more coffee and it would be a great place to work if they had WIFI!
F. C.
Great place to hang out and read a book or catch up with friends. Never too crowded.

The building itself is a great location and very nice inside. Staff need a few courses on customer service or maybe just reminded about manners and common courtesy because they are absolutely awful. They are the worst part of this establishment by far. I walk up to order and they don’t actually greet you or acknowledge you. They just look up. They don’t say “hey what can I get you” or “hello would you like to order”, they just give you a blank stare. It’s actually quite embarrassing.
EDIT: the girl before who ran it was okay, a little bit quiet but atleast spoke words to you. She also had a nice dog
called Seymour. Now it is under (very bad) new management and the dog has gone, taking away the only slither of atmosphere there once was.
EDIT 2: went back a few weeks ago and was greeted by two nice people so I felt obliged to come back and re-review. Had a hot chocolate which was very good. Adding 2 extra stars I know I’m so generous right

We drop in here very regularly. Great coffee, lovely cakes, gorgeous soup, a bonkers dog (called Seymour) and a lovely owner (who understands my coffee dilemmas). Free Wi-Fi and dog friendly if that is important.
M. L.
A great place to sit in and enjoy some good coffee and good cakes, and the rest of the food looked pretty good too! Also dog friendly - my pup got plenty of attention from the staff! Definitely recommended!

Great coffee and tasty granola in comfortable, pretty surroundings. Plenty of space and free wifi, so I don't feel too bad settling in with a laptop! Will definitely be back.

Great corner location for watching the world go by. Roomy, friendly, nice atmosphere. Dog friendly. I had tea and a tasty gluten free salted caramel brownie.
R. T.
Lovely place. Great food. I had an excellent espresso!

Come here frequently for a coffee and a read. Nice and relaxed atmosphere, with great beverages, delicious food and lovely staff. Much better than any chain coffeehouse I know. Highly recommended!

Lovely food, big selection of hot drinks and cakes! Great atmosphere too

Staff were lovely and helpful. Everything came quick. Shame that the coffee was burnt and it tasted bitter and the cake was average at best.

I like that it's dog friendly and you can buy dog biscuits, but the atmosphere or decoration could be a little more inspired / cosy.
