Reviews of Elephant & Bagels
H. D.
Awesome! Such a big fan of the place. Always a must when I'm in Edinburgh. Gluten-free delicious bagels available. There are endless possibilities to fill it. Soup and cookies etc. Are available too. Such a cute place with an amazing atmosphere.
J. N.
This was the cafe I most visited during the 16 months I lived in Edinburgh. I absolutely adore the atmosphere, particularly the single desks by the windows. The bagels are delicious - I have three top ones: the "everything" bagel with butter, the spinach bagel with salmon and scrambled eggs, or the salmon deluxe in poppies seeds bagel. I would usually have them with a filter coffee and, eventually, when I felt like eating some sugar, I would eat a yogurt bar (super recommended!). Love this place!
C. B.
Found this lovely little cafe after looking at the Elephant House fb page. Tucked away it's well worth searching out. Bagels are delicious and staff warm and friendly.
D. B.
Great place to go to if you're a tourist or a local for lunch or breakfast. There is a huge list of suggested bagel fillings or create your own style! The tomato and basil soup was delicious and we even went for a second bowl!
The decor is what really gives this place a unique character and we spent a long time looking at all of the wonderful pictures on the walls. We were only visiting for a week but ended up coming here twice and wish we'd discovered it sooner.
M. W.
Wide selections of bagels and fillings. Service is quick and the food is good. Would recommend.

What a lovely experience! Wonderful gluten free bagels, nice coffee and the staff was absolutely lovely. This was somewhere my daughter really wanted to go and we had a great time. Very low key and cosy.

This place has a cute atmosphere, and is good to study and close to the uni. The chai lattes are delicious, the bagel was underwhelming. The salmon portion was good though.
s. s.
Great Cappuccino and Hot Chocolate with side order of cake. Love the Elephant theme too. Very friendly and cheery staff. Will definately return, next time I am in the city. Very handy for the Festival Theatre.
J. B.
Although the cafes not huge there are quite a few seats and it's size just makes it cosier. I love going here because the food is great and it's lovely place to have a chat. There are seats for people to work and study as well.
S. P.
Very good coffee and service, however the bagels were a bit stale.
R. C.
A lovely warm and friendly elephant themed bagel place. A decent amount of seating (we managed to beat the lunch rush though, the queue got quite big!)
Their selection is wide, and delicious!
Their menu is very interesting and has something for everyone.
Was a perfect place to come for lunch.
A.
£8.20 for one coffee and one begal. Over priced, unless you plan on sitting to make use of the place having paid so much for the coffee and begal. Food nice, service nice and relaxed shop.
A.
Pick your bagel and ingredients! Gluten free bagels available. Great place, serve a few yummy dairy free/gluten free sweets too. Service was fantastic after buying a coffee around the corner from a Brew Lab who were a zero in every aspect. If you like to be served by a staff who are polite, and quality coffee and food then this is the place in this area
L. M.
Great choices of bagels, including for gluten free and allergies. This place gets really, really busy full of locals and tourists alike so try to avoid during peak times. They have drawings contributed from customers all over the walls and a nice atmosphere.
P. D. F.
Super tasty to a reasonable price. The staff is really friendly. Just an amazing place to go
M. T.
I love a place that can do everything, but there’s nothing quite like a place like Elephant & Bagels which does one thing to perfection. Want a bagel in Edinburgh? Honestly, look no further. I recommend the smoked salmon but they all looked scrumptious.
C. B.
If you've always wanted to eat a bagel while looking at elephant-inspired art, this is the place for you.
Great food, made to order, and a comfy environment. It's a fine spot to work in when it's not busy, but can get loud if there's a large group coming through.
n. m.
Great convenient place to grab breakfast or lunch. Big selection of bagels and fillings - including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan.
They serve hot drinks too. The staff are nice, the outdoor seating was great as it was a sunny day.
Recommended!

place is interesting with certainly it's own fan club. decor is eclectic. coffee is sub par.... never had a flat white with froth on top. bagels are less delicious than toasting your own warburton's bagels from Tesco. if you know how to put together your own bagel, store bought or whatnot, come here only when you need a place to chill/chat. if you come from America.... stay away as you'll be very underwhelmed.
M. T.
Perfect coffee shop with a side of bagels. Large selection of bagel flavours, i love the cheese and jalapeño one! Staff are great and happy to chat when the line isn't out the door during the lunch time rush. Perfect for families, couples, meeting friends or even someone looking to read their book with a good snack.
R. C.
A good shout if you like bagels! A wide choice and good coffee to go with it. The staff are friendly and it is popular with the students as it is right next door to Edinburgh Uni. If you are fed up with the choice of bagels at your local cafe give this place a shot and try something different.
N. P.
A really nice place to have lunch for those around the George Square campus. A nice selection of bagels and fillings. The staff is really friendly. My personal favourite is a bagel and soup combo, especially in winter months.
L. H.
Great service, really tasty fresh bagels!
G. x.
Good place for a lunch time stop. This place serves bagels with a variety of toppings. You can choose your own combination. They also sell soup and tray bakes. Good options for vegetarians and vegans.
C. D. M.
The food here is very good and this is the only place I found in the area with actual rashers (i.e. American bacon). However, the bagels are a little sad. Really friendly and attentive staff and relaxed vibe. Great, supportive, liberal, artsy posters on the way downstairs to the loo.
A. C.
Huge selection of great bagels, good prices. They do some unusual drinks too - would recommend the Moo. Happy atmosphere, and they have lots of pictures of elephants drawn by children on the walls which is sweet.
A. M. M.
After a long walk in the cold wind and rainy weather it was great to warm up with a tasty lunch here. The bagel with brie and bacon was so good. Cozy place!
C. M.
We love elephant and bagel! The staff are so friendly and the food is always delicious. There are so many options and all are really affordable and so amazing. We will always be back!
M. C.
This is an eccentric place kind of like VooDoo Donuts in Portland. The food is fine and the coffee is less than great. I give it 4 because I don't think they're trying to make great coffee but be a cheap and convenient place for students to grab a bite and study.
Z. M.
If you're looking for a nice place to enjoy a delicious lunch and working on your computer look no further.
The selection of fillings is great and changes depending on the season, staff is friendly, you get the draw your elephant and leave it on the walls AND there's a decent Internet connexion!
E. M.
So yummy! Friendly staff, cute decor, tasty bagels! For a bagel and a cup of tea it was about £6. I was very happy with it! Try the honey cream cheese with granola. So good!
G. A.
Nice bagels and nice staff, student location
W. o. S.
A cute elephant themed café which specialises in bagels. The bagels and coffee are fine and prices are average for Edinburgh (it's neither particularly cheap nor expensive). The bright and colourful interior is covered in customers' drawings of elephants which will appeal to elephant lovers.
A. F.
I go here every year at festival time, and enjoy a wide selection of bagels. Good for festival performers, quick, easy and good selection, with accommodating understanding of different dietary requirements.
O. F.
cosy place, very good prices, very welcoming host and the best bagels!
H. J.
Fresh bagels filled to order. Simple & wonderful. Never as busy as The Elephant House. Always some students. Go, draw an elephant, see if it is added to the walls.
R. M.
Great bagels, cosy atmosphere.
Okay coffee
C. S.
As the name suggests, you should go here with an appetite for bagels, cuz that's what you're going to get. They do have an extensive selection of bagels and ingredients so it will take a while to get bored of this place. Super close to the uni, makes it a great spot for a quick snack.
K. G.
Another Edinburgh favourite. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, great service and loads of bagel options. This years discovery - brie, honey and walnut, a great energising breakfast.
I.
I had breakfast here almost every single day for the week I was visiting. Their bagels are amazing! I'm drooling thinking about them right now. I can't wait to go back and have more.
J. B.
Lovely ambience, peaceful student place to work too. Owner helpful with directions to Old Edinburgh Grassmarket.
c. w.
Lovely little sustainable cafe, good choice of bagels and drinks
S. G.
Great choice of fillings and tastes amazing. Gluten-free bagels available and separate toaster to stop all that cross contamination. Will be back
R. M.
This is a great little cafe, waitresses have always been super friendly when we've went in. There's a big selection on offer and it's definitely worth going in.
It's usually frequented by students but has a nice, relaxed atmosphere.
I. W.
Great wee cafe for lunch. Home made lentil soup was the best. Thank you
A. L.
Summary: Hmm. Bagels...
Once, many years ago, I ate yummy bagels here as a student. Now, many years later, the place has barely changed, and I instead eat yummy bagels here with my kids. The walls are lined with all manner of elephant artworks, but the underlying décor is somewhat primative, and the plates are made of paper. Nevertheless, the place can do no wrong in my eyes, nor in the eyes of my children. Often very busy for good reason, especially during the Festival, I recommend dropping in for a quick bagelicious snack if you are in the area.
D. W.
Lovely place for lunch, friendly staff and reasonable prices. But I don't enjoy the bagels, and I'm a big bagel fan.
M. C.
Lovely place, great to catch up with friends here over a coffee ☕
N. T.
Amazing bagel, fresh and delicious! I had a pesto chicken with sun dried tomato with some cream cheese. Highly recommend!
E. B.
Very popular among the students, they've got free wifi and bagels to die for. They are a bit pricey, but worth it. Also worth visiting is it's sister cafe The Elephant House.
W.
Cosy cafe with nice coffee and a wide range of bagels and filings. The walls are decorated with lots of drawings of elephants from both young and old customers.
C. S.
Wonderful ambiance and the waitresses were very nice to us. They made amazing bagels and coffee, would 100% recommend!!
C. W.
Great coffee and bagel place. Soup and breakfast bagel were great. Very popular with students. Interior fits the restaurants' name
C. B.
Very relaxed cafe with friendly staff. I stopped in for a bagel with tea and was not disappointed. It was reasonably priced and good food.
P. G. d. S.
Nice selection of bagels in very friendly and cosy café close to several Festival venues. Absolutely the place to stop by in between shows.
R. B.
Not the best coffee but a decent place for a bagel and soup and prices and affordable. Not overly busy or noisy, it makes for a nice setting.
S. M.
Alright but nothing special. It relies too much upon its association with Harry Potter that it neglects the more basic elements of providing great quality food and drink.
I. W.
Bit disappointed with the bagels, definitely sub-standard. Coffees were ok. Perhaps the standards were slacking during busy sunday breakfast time
S. F. E. L.
Cheap and tasty bagels in a cozy environment. They have vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options.
M. M.
Bagels that you never have imaginet to eat. Very nice coffee and the decoration amazing! I loved this place.
M. W.
Great selection of bagels and most importantly Gluten Free!!! Lovely atmosphere and I always make sure I visit when I'm in Edinburgh
C. M.
Great staff, lovely atmosphere and tasty bagels. Vegan options too.
K. M.
Lovely place to get a quick bite for carry-out or to sit and have a chat. Not terribly cheap for what you get, but the menu selections are infinite.
S. M.
Such nice and supportive staff was so reluctant to be eyed like everywhere else in Edinburgh for breastfeeding my child but that kind lady made me feel so comfortable!
E. B. S.
Tasty bagels, and very kind staff. Their honey granola cream cheese is amazing!
E. R.
Really great cafe, good WiFi. I go here to work a lot, not sure if that's OK or not but they don't seem to mind
B. R.
The bagels are great and they also have many gluten free sweets but the service could be better..
L. X.
Visit every time when I am in Edinburgh! Friendly Team, good Bagels and Great Coffe.
G. A. C.
Great tasty snacks and good coffee in a pleasant environment with friendly helpful staff. Highly recommended!

Friendly staff and good selection of breakfast and lunch options. Make sure you allow time to look at the artwork on the walls.
