Reviews of L'Etoile Salon de Tea

Absolutely loved the intricately made pastries here! They’re all home made and not too sweet. We went there back to back in two days and would have gone again if we weren’t leaving Edinburgh! Prices were very reasonable too. Highly recommend!

Delicious and original French pastries, a hidden gem.
You may miss the entrance to this little Salon de Tea on your way to the more conspicuous restaurants and cafes in the neighbouring Grassmarket, but l’Etoile is a hidden gem. With amazing French pastries and desserts. You can play it safe with the croissants, pain au chocolate, and quiches. But I would recommend being more adventurous and try the entremets, those mini cakes with layers of amazing flavours surrounded by mousse and covered by shining glaze and fruits. A multilayered experience of colours and flavours in a guilt-free size. If you try the “White Gold” with fresh raspberries and the exceptional “La ronde-Gianduia” you will not be disappointed. Not too sweet, but better accompanied with an unsweetened drink. Plenty of gluten free options. Good coffee too.

Excellent! Really enjoyed breakfast which was of superb quality and at a very good price... probably best one we've had in Edinburgh since being here. Lovely clean premises and very pleasant staff. Well done!

Popped in here after a castle tour. Warm welcome and both owner and waitress were very nice. Coffee was good but tarts were... formidable! We had a raspberry tart and a chocolate hazelnut one. Both were amazing!
Very relaxed atmosphere where you can just sit back and enjoy a coffee and treat.

An hidden gem in Edinburg that you don't want to miss.
This little cafe next to the Grassmarket is just amazing. I had the opportunity to try various cakes and have breakfast nearly every day of vacation.
I specifically appreciate the attention to every little details. The quality of food was also superior, you definitely don't want to miss it.
I special note for the staff that is extremely friendly and remembered all my personal tastes across multiple days. If I'll visit Edinburg again, this is definitely on top of my list.

The cakes are excellent and I would definitely recommend the carrot cake and mocha especially with fresh cream on top.
The interior is sparse and airy with excellent seating which allows everybody plenty of breathing space.
It's just off Grass Market in Edinburgh and it has a good breakfast selection.
I just upgraded to 5 stars due to the bathroom facilities alone.

Extremely friendly and with excellent food. I'm a coffee drinker and small cups of expresso taste great, but do not hit the spot. Their Latte does!

Prices were very reasonable and the French lady serving us was nice. However we asked for sourdough and were given brown bread. The meal itself was pretty underwhelming very firm scrambled eggs and bad coffee. A nice budget option but won’t be back

Wow... amazing place for gluten free people and they really take into account any allergies. Love places that make an actual effort and this place definitely does. The picture is of a French 'toastie" was so delicious and the biggest gf bread I've ever seen. I also got some incredible gluten free cakes and patisserie to take away. Was going to take pictures but they got a bit bashed but I promise they looked and tasted incredible!

This place is a gem. Great food and competitively priced. I had their first breakfast with scrambled eggs but there is plenty more to choose from. They seem to have a bakery/patisserie vibe too.
Massively recommend.
