Reviews of Machina Coffee - Marchmont Cafe
J. I.
Impressive to say the least. The Honduras roast is very good; a hidden gem. This one alone is even comparable to my other favourite's such as Monmouth. Definitely will be visiting when in Scotland, but 100% would order online for now. Highly recommend.
P. T.
Good Coffee. Great Space. Warm Staff.
Just wish they had more sockets (hard to come in and get work done so had to lunch it elsewhere; no hooks for your jacket under the shelf & no mirror in the bathroom - bizarre! But don't let that stop you from going!
K.
Had a very pleasant seat at Machina Espresso, a really tasty iced latte and enjoyable espresso.
Plenty of drinks on offer from the menu for all different tastes and a load of beans available to buy as well as equipment.

Short stay in Edinburgh, this was my favourite coffee place. I was surprised how many good spots there were for coffee but this was the one that I came back to a few times. Nice down to earth baristas, good prices and great coffee
E. V.
What a sweet coffee shop! Currently only open for take-away but I can imagine how amazing this would be for sit-in when that is possible again. The coffee was great, staff were super helpful and welcoming, and the vibe is super cool and calm in there. Out of the way of the hustle and bustle as well
Y. Y.
Super delicious coffee and lovely staffs! The beans are roasted locally in Edinburgh and I love their espresso and filter!
E. B.
One of the best coffee I have ever tried. The place is very cosy and the staff are friendly. Definitely coming more for a coffee here. Big thanks to Alex.
S. S.
I would personally like to congratulate Alex for his great customer care experience and serving.
It's the ideal person that I I would like to have while iam drinking my coffee.
J. A.
Very high level flat white, best I've had in Edinburgh
F.
Great scones and coffee, friendly staff!
S. A.
When I lived in Edinburgh this very quickly became my spot. The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. The coffee was AMAZING. The roasts offered were all delicious and you can’t get this quality anywhere nearby
S. E.
Most consistently good cafe I've found, flat white is on pointe, good music selection and rarely overcrowded. For those who work from a cafe the wifi is fast too.
E. *.
Great coffee and cake with lavender. Looking at the number of people passing it's a popular spot for locals.
V. E.
Seriously changed my coffee life. Having a long term digestive condition I can now drink coffee again. Their Honduras filter is the best around and so easy on the tummy. Def one of the best roasters in UK. Edinburgh def is the best city on the coffee circuit. These guys r sook helpful in store too. Gr8 coffee and staff.. Get down there ASAP and pick up some beans it'll change ur coffee life (recc Honduras filter bag)
B. M.
Quality coffee made properly and decent cakes too - what's not to like?
J.
Proud coffee house. Nice vibe and friendly barista.
Choice of milk is limited (no Oat or Almond), breakfast options also very limited.
S. K.
Very nice food and coffee. The isn't much variety of food choices and the space is quite narrow.
Z. H.
Fantastic espresso. Probably my favorite place in the city for a long black. Modern standard/ fortitude are right up there though.
N. S.
I work in CodeBase and Machina Espresso supply the coffee there. The staff are really friendly and talkative, even giving me coffee-making hints. The coffee is among the best I've ever tasted.
We have a coffee machine in our office so when we want to treat ourselves, we'll buy a bag of coffee beans from the Machina Espresso shop. As I've only been in the shop to buy beans, I can't give a proper review for it (as good as the shop looks), so this review is based on the service they provide at CodeBase (which is fantastic).

An odd little place that does a good coffee. I've been in twice and have been disappointed by the staff. It's not that they're unfriendly they're just not interested. So this place is perfect for those who like a good coffee and to sit in silence. There's a good array of snacks and things too. There is a toilet and you can sit outside. I'll go again as now I know the score.

This place is a must for coffee lovers with machines on display, brewing classes and unique flavours on rotation. It's also a little hidden away, meaning it's quieter and easier to get a table. Though there's not a huge selection of nibbles, the breakfast pastries are giant and delicious. The baristas are also seem really knowledgable and friendlier than similar coffee shops in the area.
A.
The coffee is 'quite nice',but not my favourite in Edinburgh. The place itself has a nice interior. The boss always seems very serious and distancial but other staff is friendly. Shame as well that they don't do decaf.
T. L.
Machina Espresso has absolutely delicious coffee! The space is small and we got one of the last tables. It's cosy but it's a cute place with a great selection of coffee-making kit and gadgetry if you're further inspired to see if you can beat their coffee-making skills at home. The selection of baked goods looked tasty, too. Machina Espresso lived up to and surpassed my high expectations!
I. M.
I'm rarely up this end of town, but when I do, Machina Espresso gets a visit. Always a great coffee and one of Edinburgh's more knowledgable coffee shops. They sell equipment as well the great drinks. Small, but perfectly formed. Friendly staff. Steve had no end of advice before we bought a grinder. Your first stop if you want to start getting involved in making great coffee (as well as consuming!)
G. H.
Amazing staff, coffee and delicious food. Drop in for a true coffee experience. If you think you know your coffee, go here and learn more. Great products to purchase for the coffee lover in your life too!
T. B.
Served horribly made , beyond burnt tasting over priced coffee by a rude snotty women with glasses who mumbled and could not make eye contact , and in the cascade of her irate mumbling it was impossible to deduce what was being said or in point of fact to whom at which point. All I know is that it took ages and there was not a rush on. In short the coffee and the pleasantness of the service is hit and miss here , if you miss you'll end up spending more then a few quad. Gentrification is overrated. I've had appalling coffee here and I've had some of the best I've ever had too. Perhaps Manic Espresso might be a more appropriate business name.

If you're after a good coffee, that's the place to go. Lattes are so nice I can easily have 5 a day. Guys working there are always smiling and very friendly. My favorite spot in the area.
R. S.
To learn practically what is the true TASTE of a coffee, just try Machina Espresso. You will think that your whole life you have been buying water. Coconut, walnut and oat milk... unbelievable.
I will miss all the actual staff there... lovely people. Enjoy life!
T. W.
I love it here! A changing range of coffees and crazy preparation methods - V60, Aeropress, Chemex (and more...). The store sells coffee machines and equipment too, and it's nice to be surrounded by all the shiny chrome of brand new espresso machines.
The seats and tables are a little cramped, but it's always been easy to get a seat. Every time I've visited I've tried one of the guest coffees in a Chemex. Lots of flavours, and great way to enjoy a coffee if you've not tried it before. It turns out they go really well with the Nutella danish!
The staff are friendly and really know their stuff.
L. S.
I really like it here! Coffee is always delicious and it's nice and cosy. Close to the meadows so good for take away and a wander as well.
S. W.
Great little spot. Good sized coffee (ie: not too big) with good cocoa flavour. A bit try hard with all the obscure coffee techniques and drips etc, but do the straight up coffees nicely. Also dog friendly !
M. R.
awesome coffe! the barista made a kawaii hot chocolate too!
R. H.
A fantastic coffee bar with all a coffee nerd could hope for from espressos from Steampunk, chemex and V60 as well as selling the equipment and beans for you to try and make your own at home. The decor is simple but bright and airy and the staff are friendly, it's everything you could want in a coffee bar really.
C. H.
Fantastic coffee, I would hazard to say best coffee in the Tollcross area in fact. With a selection of beans from local(ish) roasters Steampunk, there really is something for everyone. In case you're feeling peckish, there's a selection of pastries on offer, of which I can vouch that the almond croissant is amazing!
Not only do they have great coffee & pastries, they also sell all the coffee kit you need to make a great cuppa joe at home. They also run brew method classes which would make a great gift for the coffee aficionado in your life!
The walls are often adorned with art from local artists which is a great showcase of local talent.
It was super quiet the day I went in so there wasn't much of an atmosphere or vibe which is all that is missing for it to get a higher rating. Although with seating for about 10 and no soft furnishings to absorb any noise, I can imagine it could get quite loud when they're busy.
D. B.
One of my favourite coffee places in Edinburgh. Beautiful interiors and delightful staff. Coffee is stellar and there's a good selection of treats.
J. J.
Fantastic coffee. And as after a year in Melbourne, my bar is pretty high! If you want a Flat White how it’s supposed to be, this is your place.
P. H.
Excellent service by knowledgeable staff. Good coffee, and pastries - I can definitely recommend the chemex. Have a look around at the beautiful coffee making equipment whilst you have your coffee!
M.
One of the stalwarts of speciality coffee in Edinburgh. Always a pleasant experience.
O. R.
Really lovely people, some of the best coffee in Edinburgh! Freddy the greyhound is sometimes there as a bonus - cannot recommend enough.
I. B.
Coffee very good and serves good and very pleasant guy will go back when am up that area.
J. S.
Really nice speciality coffee shop with friendly staff and a nice little selection of cakes. Machina also sells a lot of coffee gear so a good place to go to find out more and start brewing good coffee at home!
G. W.
Nice cosy little cafe. Great quality coffee but you really don't get much in a cup for the price, which is rather expensive.
A. H.
Amazing coffee and cakes in cafe and have had great service with home delivery of beans as well to keep me going through lock down !!
D. R.
Passed through Edinburgh for a few days and this place quickly became my favourite place for a good coffee. Lovely staff, yummy snacks and great music too :-)
M. M.
It's been a while since I had coffee here and I have noticed a great improvement in the service.Friendly staff, much better than previous ones.
Coffee is overpriced.
C. S.
This is a lovely cafe that makes delicious tea and hot chocolate (and coffee so I'm told). The staff is friendly and dogs are allowed inside.
M. B.
I was looking for soup, and saw cake. I have just polished off their carrot cake - delicious. I have had carrot cake before, what I had eaten in Machina Espresso was the best that I have eaten.
M. B.
Great latte, great environment. There was one person running the place but she was able to keep up with the hustle and bustle of this quaint place. Would visit again.
N. S.
I’ve enjoyed the cupping session last night.
This shop’s coffee and food are lovely and very nice and friendly staffs;-)
A. G.
I had an americano from here. It was nice but not brilliant. I don't think I would go back. Nice decor though. I didn't find the staff very friendly.
M. S.
This is a great new coffee shop. As well as coffee itself, both in cups and packets, they sell a wide range of fantastic coffee making equipment.
J. A.
Brilliant espresso and other drinks such as "alternative" flat whites with coconut milk. Great cakes too!
T. K.
Amazing coffee and good atmosphere, the food is lovely and the staff are very friendly
