Reviews of Red Coat Cafe
I had a wonderful lunch here for a more than fair price. The cafe was clean and the staff was very friendly. They have a nice selection of mains, pizza, cakes and other baked goods and drinks. The views from the windows are very nice. It is a good place to begin or end your trip to the castle or perhaps a midway pick me up or cake and tea!
Came in for only a drink, very clean and tidy. Plenty of seating, all the staff very polite. Bit pricey, but great views and a one off
Great views overlooking Edinburgh, good selection of everything a coffee shop would offer, but a little light on staff when we visited.
Soup was very nice.
Liked the food and big tables, queueing system is not good, food got colder and it was heavy to carry while waiting to pay
Good food selections, plenty of sitting space, and friendly staff.
Good pizza plus a panoramic view of the City and the Firth of Forth.
Great view of Edinburgh and many food options.
Get the berries and cream, but sit outside to eat it.
Was ok
A nice place to work
The soup is good especially on a rainy day. The lady at the food service is nice but the cashier guy, David C, kept talking with his colleague and even didn't bother to look at me until I asked to pay with card. Please respect the customers when working and respond to their greeting at least by looking at them!
Incredible scones
This place was amazing!
Interesting place
Café & Bistro inside Edinburgh Castle. We were there on a Tuesday around 11 a.m. and activity was limited. The service was cool and reserved, and the cappuccino was expensive at £3.30. The quality was mediocre. There is a wide selection of pastries, drinks and lunch options. The price level is expensive there too. The rear seating area has fantastic views across Edinburgh to the sea. The toilets aren't that great.
(Translated) Nice place to stop for a visit to Edinburgh Castle. Prices a little higher than in other places, but it is logical for the environment
Take a ginger tea and lemongrass with a fruity scon which is somewhat tasteless

Lindo lugar para hacer un alto en la visita del castillo de Edimburgo. Los precios un poco más altos que en otros lugares, pero es lógico por el entorno
Tome un té de jengibre y lemongrass con un scon frutal el cual está a un tanto sin gusto
(Translated) Good for eating on the go at noon! Cafeteria style restaurant, the prices are correct for such a tourist place. There is something for everyone: sandwich, pizza, soup, scones ... the real plus: the breathtaking view from the great room on the Firth of forth and right next to the One O'clock Gun fire. On the other hand, the toilets are crowded: more than 15 minutes of queuing to go to the girls.
Do not hesitate to present your membership card, you will have a reduction on your plate!

Mediocre food
We had lunch here during our visit to Edinburgh Castle. The Redcoat Cafe is located in the middle of Edinburgh Castle. The offer ranges from coffee and cake to pizza and the soup of the day. If you get a seat by the window, you also have a great view of Prince Street and New Town. The furnishings are very simple and minimalist. The food is offered in self-service. The existing toilets are rather too small for the number of visitors. Unfortunately, the café does not have any special charm. The food is nothing special and we would rather not eat here anymore and just limit ourselves to coffee and cake.
While visiting Edinburgh Castle, I decided to stop for a snack at the Red Coat Cafe. The service is good. The atmosphere is cozy. It's the perfect place to have a coffee and cookies while charging your phone.
I recommend this place to all visitors to Edinburgh Castle. My wife and I enjoyed a delicious soup with homemade sheep's butter. You have the opportunity to sit by the window and enjoy a wonderful view of the city scenery.
If you want to relax and have something to eat and drink while visiting the castle, this is your only option. A beautiful cafe with a magnificent view.
It’s a big place with a lot of tables and good hot food, I was lucky and got my pizza from the furnace. Of course it’s not cheap
A good self-service restaurant, with a decent selection of dishes. The soup I got was very good.
The cafe on the castle has a nice view, but the food is average and the price is on the high side.
Good food but very expensive.
I expected much more of the Christmas lunch I had at the Jacobite room of the Edinburgh castle. The food was ok and it was a cool experience, but nothing really outstanding.
No bacon roll was on offer! What the actual?! Ended up getting a ham and cheese baguette for me and the kid,it’s insanely tough to bite thank god we’ve good teeth or else there would be a lawsuit . Coffee and scone were ok though but then I don’t know how anyone could mess that up.
Yummy, hot bowl of Potato, leek and butter soup with breads on the side, but steeply priced at £5.5 per bowl. Pizza slices were extremely overpriced for their size. Lots of sitting space though, which is a good thing about the place.
Great location in the castle and fab views. Food was fine, some decent cakes and coffee - although nothing standout or special. But prices far too high, even for a tourist attraction.
Not as clean as I would have imagined plus some of the food was rather cold but otherwise it wasn't all that bad, especially the soups were really nice
I was surprised by an absolutely delicious vegan sandwich and a hot chocolate with almond milk! Thank you for serving such delicious and nutritious foods to vegans. It matters. I love you for that!!
Coffee was nice and the restaurant is clean and tidy with great views over the city if you can get a good seat. 3 stars because of the tourist trap prices.
